Man admits assaulting Man Utd's Ferguson(updates with guilty plea) LONDON, Sept 12 (Reuters) - A man admitted in court on Wednesday that he had attacked Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United football club, at a railway station. Kevin Reynolds, 43, of no fixed address, assaulted Ferguson at London's Euston station on Monday, causing minor injuries to his leg. He also admitted head-butting a community police officer who was trying to restrain him. The magistrate described Reynolds as a violent drunk. Ferguson was reported to have been travelling to a private engagement. Reynolds pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm, assault and two public order offences, at City of Westminster Magistrates' court. He was remanded in custody and will appear at a date to be fixed at Southwark Crown Court for sentencing. source http://www.football.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/feedstory/0,,-6915725,00.html |

The financial backing Mr Abramovich gives to Russian football, via his National Academy of Football foundation, is for the development of the game as a whole and is not focused on specific matches. Mr. Abramovich supports grassroots football initiatives through such efforts as building football pitches, helping to organize youth sports academies and providing training for coaches. source- cfc |

EURO 2008 QUALIFIERS TONIGHT In one of this evening's most crucial games, Claude Makelele (pictured) and Florent Malouda will be representing France, who are currently top of Group B with 18 points, against Scotland in Paris. Scotland, who are only one point behind France, beat them 1-0 when they played last October and will be riding the momentum from their impressive 3-1 against Lithuania on Saturday. France, who will be without frontman Thierry Henry, managed a draw to Italy in Milan. Chelsea and France midfielder, Makelele, is hoping the home fans will play a big role in tonight's game. 'We need our supporters behind us,' Makelele says. 'It would be good to be able to count on them as an extra man, because this is a key game we have to win to qualify.' 'They are a team that closes you down all the time, runs for the whole 90 minutes and does not let you develop your game.' 'We will need to be even more patient than against Italy. And we'll have to take more risks offensively without comprising our solidarity at the back.' Italy are only two points behind France but will play Ukraine tonight in Kiev and will be eager for the win which will take them second if France lose to Scotland again. Andriy Shevchenko will be hoping to liven up Scotland's chances of qualification by scoring against Italy. Ukraine are currently fourth in Group B, six points behind France, but with a game in hand over the group leaders as well as Scotland and Italy. Czech Republic goalkeeper, Petr Cech, is hoping for a clean sheet tonight against the Republic of Ireland in Prague. The Czech Republic are currently second in the table, five points behind Germany but if Ireland win tonight it will put them level with Cech's national side. The Czechs will be without their talisman Jan Koller who received his second yellow card of their qualifying campaign during their 3-0 win against San Marino on Saturday, leaving him suspended for tonight's game. This will be a loss their keeper acknowledges. 'We do not have a second Koller,' said Cech. Chelsea and England Captain John Terry will be hoping to continue on from the 3-0 win against Israel on Saturday by beating Russia at Wembley. Terry will be commanding team-mates Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ashley Cole but will still be missing Frank Lampard due to his thigh injury. England, who currently second in Group E, are one point behind Russia and need this win to put them into a qualifying position. 'Russia are a very, very good side and it is going to be a much tougher game than the one against Israel,' said Terry. 'When the pressure is really on we do rise to it. Right from the start against Israel we set the tempo in the first five or ten minutes and got right in their faces.' If selected, Paulo Ferreira faces a tough challenge when Portugal play Serbia tonight in Lisbon. Portugal are currently third in Group A, four points behind Poland who will play second place Finland. Portugal are two points behind the Finns but have a game in hand over both Poland and Finland.
