CareerRe: I’m Confused And Need Guidance by MXray: 7:07am On Oct 18, 2021
Please don't give up. You have many more bright years ahead of you.

One of the things you need to do, is to stop focusing on your challenges and start looking inwards to the abundance of knowledge, talent and potentials you already possess.

From what you have written above, you already did a 3 year course in college of health tech, right?

And you are about rounding up on your degree in a Health-related course as well...

You also have an entrepreneurial spirit and have run a dry cleaning business despite your physical challenge.

These all makes you quite qualified for what I want to say next!

Millions of Nigerians are battling with one health condition or another and you have so much knowledge as a certified health personnel, that they don't.

There's a big information gap in the Nigerian health sector that many unqualified persons are taking advantage of to enrich themselves while qualified people like you are out there not knowing what to do with the knowledge they have.

I want you to do some research, ask yourself, knowing what I know, how can I use it to solve a pressing need in the health ecosystem in Nigeria?

That's one!

Number 2.

Have you considered starting a tutorial class for Freshers in your school?

A lot of these Freshers are confused and need guidance, since you are still in school you can plan out your time well, so you can hold evening classes for those in your department or faculty and get paid for it.

These are just a bit of what you can do.

I think you should focus more on your intellectual gifts and how you can solve problems with rather than on your physical abilities.

Sellout:
you are better off learning data engineering. There are more jobs for data engineers.
Your LinkedIn profile looks quite impressive...

What have you been doing so far to get a job in Data Science/Analytics/Business Intelligence?

Rather than waiting for job openings and applying have you mapped out a few prospective companies in given verticals that you'd like to work with...

For example, let's say that fintech intrigues you...

Have you mapped out like 20 to 30 fintech companies home and abroad that you'd like to work with?

Do you follow their company pages on LinkedIn, have you reached out to connect with a few of their key management staff?

Have you visited their career page on their website to see if there are openings or even leg-in-the-door kind of openings you can use to get yourself into the company?

Have you thought about visiting the companies career pages and shooting them a mail? Hit them cold?

Have you ever thought about running a LinkedIn ad that showcase what you can do and how you can add value for a prospective employer?

How big is your network?

You are far ahead of me in terms of skillset in data science, I'm coming up but I don't want to be heavy on all these skills and not have a job in 3 months after I'm done with building my data analytics portfolio.

PPS: How many jobs openings do you apply for in a day using Indeed and Glassdoor?

Hello Gurus
Please I need a guide.
I just made decisions to go for programming and probably full stack that would enable me get a remote job.
I’m an idealistic person so I would love something that would be able to make me develop my ideas.
Especially in fintech industry.

I need help cos I want to focus on this.

Please help me out, advice, links, leads, critics is needed.

I just want to start something very meaningful with myself.

Thank you.

PS. If you see this on another topic, it’s me I’m just looking for where to get genuine answers. Thanks.
Hello, do you know about Ustacky?

Search for them, and sign up with them, you can get a scholarship for full-stack programming and between now ans december you'd be job ready.

I got a scholarship with them just by answering a few questions, for python full stack web developer, for just 10k

AntiSimp:
I recently decided to give programming a go as I was kind of getting bored, disillusioned and uninspired by my current career path.
.
I want something more challanging, creative and fullfiling...And looking at my strength and interest, I realise I tilt towards number and analytic bent, so the idea of data science becomes tempting and prospective for me.
.
After some research about how to start, and my need for a solid background in the enterprise of programming and computer sci, I stumbled on CS5O being run by Havard on Edx, and adjudged with good reviews for beginners....so I'm following CS50 to get the basics, hoping that afterward, I can now progress to concentrate on datascience using python and its libraries, SQL and R.
.
.....While working on C, I get worried or sceptical abt the relevance of C in the long run..since I wouldn't probably run data analysis with C...I wonder why Havard introduce computer scien with C....And sometimes I hope I am not just wasting my time with C and following CS50...Just worried.
.
Will appreciate your advice and input. Thanks.
Hi, if data science is what you want, here's what I will recommend, go all in on data science starting with python for data analysis instead of running round and round.

Search for Data Science Nigeria on Instagram and follow them. If you use telegram, do the same and join the channel, right now, there's an ongoing 50 days of AI prebootcamp going on. You may have missed that one but it's never a bad idea to be as close to information as much as possible.

So go and join so you can network with like minds.

Ask if you can still join any of the streams for the prebootcamp.

Also, register on Kaggle, Kaggle has some beginner courses you can take with certificate given so you can get started quickly and begin playing with datasets.

Join freecodecamp as well and take their Python for Data Analysis course. In my opinion this is the one you should be doing instead of that cs50 something.

Also, in September, I'm looking at getting a job as a Data Analyst for a start while I continue to build up my skill, especially in Machine Learning...

Do you advise I get an intern position or just go for a junior data analyst/Data Scientist/business analyst role?

For the sake of background and domain knowledge.

1. I am a Biochemist by degree...

2. A Digital Marketer (Copywriter, PPC, web analytics) by hustle...

And now I want to switch career for good.

Man! This is so amazing! I hope to be as knowledgeable as you are soon.

I started learning Python in May then stopped in June and picked up again in July. So far, I've learned Basic Python, Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Seaborn, also I have piggybacked to do a crash course on SQL, installed MySQL and practiced my SQL statements, and created some basic databases. I did the same for Excel, another crash course.

I have also gone back to refresh my mind on Linear Algebra, especially Matrice and Vector, I did this so I could understand Numpy better.

So far, I am picking up datasets on Kaggle, trying to do Exploratory Data Analysis on them.

However, I do have challenges cos, I'd pick a dataset and would not know the questions to ask myself about the data.

I've learned that it's not just about having the skills, if you don't know the questions to ask on your dataset, you will not know the answer to expect to get from it...

Your thread has given me a new lifeline, I just followed your link to GitHub to see what you did with the Nairaland Politics project, and I'm so full of admiration for you...

I hope to condense my disarrayed skills together by month end and hopefully be presenting my projects here... Thank you for the inspiration!
CareerRe: Please Help!! I Need A Sellable Skill by MXray: 4:35pm On Jul 26, 2021
I'd suggest you use what you already have ( knowledge) to get what you want (money).

1. Since you are a medical student, you can start a health YouTube channel, this might not give you money in the beginning but it's like real estate, with tim, it will.

2. You can take a few YouTube tutorials on writing and SEO to improve your writing and then start pitching health blogs and magazines to write health related articles for them and get paid for it.

To do this, you will need to write about five 1000 words health articles as part of your portfolio and then use LinkedIn to reach out to potential clients, search for health related pages, digital marketing directors and health business founders, connect with them, reach out, introduce yourself and ask for gigs...

Interested ones would ask to see your portfolio, and you can send them the link to your articles which you've uploaded to Google Drive.

If they like what they see then you can get one or two contracts, get paid in Dollars and help yourself.

N.B. As a med student, it wouldn't be hard for you to talk about and explain some of these medical, health topics and make it easier to know and digest.

You don't need to be a super writer to do this...

You can even use grammerly to help you with typos and correct grammar.

3. You are going to get a lot of rejections in the beginning especially with your pitches but if you want to succeed then you need to persevere.

ProgrammingRe: I Started My Career As A Data Analyst by MXray: 9:41pm On Jul 02, 2021
Wow! We are on the same path man , I started with Python first.

Did a crash course to get the general idea and feel of it and then bought a course on Pirple.com so when I'm done with it, I'd get a certificate. The course is really nice. They force you to complete homeworks before moving to the next topic, so you can't jump anything.

I also started learning Advanced Excel recently, it's like another hands-on crash course with a freecodecamp tutorial..

When I'm done with that, I'd complete Excel for Data Analytics crash course as well, it's up to 6 hours.

And then brush up on SQL.

So by August to September, hopefully I will be done acquiring these skills and completing a few projects.
I have my eyes pinned on some of the projects at Freecodecamp that give you certificates when you complete them...

Then I hope to get myself dirty in a work environment with an internship for 3 months, and hopefully by 2022, we'd be up marinating in moolah(working a lucrative job, in a reputable organisation), while acquiring more exposure and developing more especially in Machine Learning.

I'd have to take on some crash courses in Statistics, as I only have university level exposure.

I hope to work in the Health Data Analytics/Science field, cos I have a background in the Life Sciences, Biochemistry...

So even if I want to go for a Masters for example, with my exposure and skill, it'd be easy to complete an MSc in Bioinformatics quickly.

As you can see, there's a lot to learn, and we need to be self-starters and self-learners to succeed in this ever-changing and emerging field of Data Science.

I'd like to keep in touch with you, if you feel the same way then, let me have your WhatsApp or Telegram, cheers!

BusinessWho Would You Like To Date? by MXray(op): 7:08am On Nov 12, 2020
On Tinder you look at the profiles of potential dates, you look at their photos, you pick the ones you like.

You look at their interests and see if they match with yours.

Then you like their photos.

And then you can go ahead to start a conversation.

If they like you in return.

Then you can arrange for a hangout(date)...

What does this have to do with #business, #marketing, and #copywriting?

The answer is Customer Avatar.

A customer avatar or profile is like a Tinder profile reversed.

It helps you know exactly who you want to date (do business with), what interests them, and how to strike up meaningful conversations with them in your marketing messages.

So, how do you create your ideal customer profile?

Answer! Create it like a Tinder profile...

Look at other Tinder profiles and ask yourself...

"Who would I like to date from the information I have?"

Reverse this and you have the key to creating a customer avatar.

FamilyRe: I Am 20 And My Mom Wants To Throw Me Out. by MXray: 9:23am On May 17, 2020
I feel for this guy. Nothing annoys one more than being accused wrongly...

My elder sister once accused me of killing her agric fowl and hiding the dead chicken under an iron drum those days when I was living with her, in 2004, all because I was the one that discovered the dead chicken...

It made me so mad.

Why would I even do that?

My guy, you have to be patient though...

If she disturbs you too much, pay her the money and add extra 1K on top...

Since you have 19K...

That would let her know that you're not a push over.

I remember having a quarrel with my mom... I was so angry, I left the house and went to hustle in PH with my friend in 2015... We were waiting for service then.

Guess what happened when I came back, the old woman was not feeling strong...

I didn't want to forgive her, but I did, and then took her to get a proper medical attention...

A day later, I left the house for service...

Everyone is good now...

The thing, is that you must assert respect, be it from your mom or siblings, you have to make them respect you...

At 20 you're ready to make your voice heard.

Don't leave the house though, if you don't have a proper support system now.

I want you to stand up and make your mom respect you...

It's not by talking back at her...

It's by making your actions do your talking for you.

Become an alpha male.

Career5 Top Reasons Why Most Freelancers Fail by MXray(op): 10:58am On Nov 14, 2019
Freelancing is one of the most profitable ways to make money on the internet.

It is almost zero capital because all you need is to have a skill and the ability to sell yourself to potential clients and get them to hire you.

But that is where the simplicity ends.

In Nigeria, 80 percent of Freelancers fail and give up just three months into the hustle.

This shows how challenging it can be to make money freelancing.

Now, if you are a beginner, struggling or a wannabe freelancer, there's hope for you…

Because in a few seconds, I will show you the top 5 Reasons why most Freelancers fail.

This will help you to know the what to do to hit it off and right with freelancing.

Let's ride!

1. Wild Expectations

This is the number one killer-monster of freelancers.

And it's not your fault.

You have been bombarded with so many, often fake, success stories that you start dreaming of the dollars and how it's going to fill your pocket before you even shift into gear one.

This is why after three months of having a dry spell, so many freelancers give up completely.

So, here's what you to do.

Tune down your expectations. Freelancing is very competitive.

Your first three months will be your most challenging one, for a lot of reasons…

• Nobody knows you.
• You are stilling learning the platform
• You are still battling with your confidence
• Your keyword is still ranking depending on the platform you are using.

So, the odds in your favor at this time are very small.

If you tell yourself this truth early, you are one step closer to succeeding than failing.

2. The Curse of Omnipresence

This is the second reason freelancers fail. The curse of omnipresence.

These freelancers want to be everywhere. From Fiverr through Upwork, to Freelancer.

And so on.

When you do this, you become a rolling stone that gathers no moss.

You simply spread yourself thing.

You'd just be struggling without having a locus.

It takes time to learn the platform and what works on a given platform.

My advice.

Focus on one platform, learn how it works there and stick to the platform.

Then when you start making money, you can increase your capacity.

Don't put all fingers in your mouth at once as a finger.

Be patient first.

3. Being All Things to All People

This one is close to the curse of omnipresence. You can't be all things to all people, you will simply lose your relevance.
In freelancing, it's the same thing.

Even if you have a basket load of skills, from graphics designing to website designing.

Don't show up as a jack of all trades.

Stick to one skill, the one that is less competitive compared to the others and brand yourself in there.

This is what is called niching-down.

When I started, I was so enthusiastic, I wanted to take any writing job.

It was a disaster.

I ended up attracting a bunch of "gay" clients that were not my type.

Only when I niched down to email copywriting, that was when things changed.

So, you have to niche down. I will be writing more on this in a later publication.

4. The Clichéd Profile Description

Before a potential client wants to talk to you. They'd run through your profile and description.

They'd want to get an idea of your personality to know if you are a good fit.

So, what do you think would turn a potential client off?

A profile description that lacks enthusiasm, doesn't resonate with your client's needs, is me-me and runs straight about how great and awesome you are. Cocky noisy profile descriptions.

These are exactly the profile descriptions that will make potential clients shelf the idea of contacting you.

So, what do you do?

Start with the number one reason why any potential client would be viewing your profile in the first place.

Start with their problems.

Let them know you know what they going through, even if you don't.

Make them feel like you do. Perception is everything in sales.

Make it count for you.

Tell them you can help them and then show them that you can help them.

Empathy and Enthusiasm will get you the job every time.

5. Wacky Freelance Proposals

No freelancer or business can ever do without proposals.

If you want to get jobs you will learn to write them right.

But what do most freelancers do?

Copy and paste, canned proposal to every bid.

Saying the same me-me cliché.

About having 10 years' experience and so on, and diverging completely from the needs and problems and solutions that the potential client is seeking to solve or get.

If you learn how to place the potential client and their challenges before your ego, success will only be a matter of time.

Conclusion

There are many more reasons why most Freelancers fail, but these 5 are right there at the top of the list…

So, if you are a freelancer or you want to become one.

These are things you must put in perspective if you want success.

P.S. I created a FREE report, The Edge Factor (The Freelancers Secret to Getting Jobs and More Jobs), where I disclosed The One Secret you need to know and How to Use it to KNOCKOUT your competition, as a Freelancer.
