I feel u, alarinjo. My Dad took us all back literally a week after his graduation. That was back in 1980 when 20 cups of garri went for N1 Fast forward to 1998: He made his 'second coming' back to America. He was told his degrees (american) are out of date and so he had to start from scratch. I am alway very pissed when I remember these things. Even till today at his age, he says that regardless of situation back home, if it comes to war (he fought on Nigeria's side during Biafran war), he will go back to fight. He he. Whether Ngozi left for good or bad, the fact is that Nigeria has lost perhaps the only respectable Minister of the bunch. I look forward to observation our financial health over the months leading to 2007 elections. |
Odeku: doesn't matter. I believe he was once invited to that anti-corruption tribunal/panel. If he could be invited, that to me means that the implication was that he isn't above the law. At least thatz my take. I could be dead wrong. It wouldn't be the first time ![]() |
Odeku, i blv u will find ur answer in the question (I know - naija dey answer question with question ):Has IBB ever been brought to justice? ![]() |
On personal levels, I don't know the woman but based on what she has done for the country, I will say confidently that Nigeria has probably lost the best thing to ever happen to her. |
I blv there is already a thread to this effect ![]() |
"bobos" is Nigerian Pidgin English slang for "guys" or "dudes" or "boys". u get the gist ![]() |
janet, so r u really debosky's girl or wd love to be? ![]() If not, there r bobos waiting in line ![]() |
fo shizzle, my nizzles. Snoop Drizzle is da bizzle for rizzle ![]() |
Check out these sites. They cover the basics and can get you up and running: 1) http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_intro.asp 2) http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/CSS:Getting_Started I hope these help! |
I had wanted to take out a loan for a house in Uyo. They didn't require any form of collateral. However, the conditions were such that I couldn't get it ![]() 1) Pay 50% down payment (I wanted a N9million loan - too much for ur broda )2) Pay remaining 50% over 3 months in equal installments. Who knows, perhaps other companies operate under the same/similar conditions. The housing company in question is: http://www.apicoltd.com, in case anyone is interested. Most of the site is no longer functional but the govt agency still exists and can be contacted. I hope this helps. |
LOL kheme: u can imagine, if they hvnt done a good job at informing its citizenry about the website, what else don't they want u to know? ![]() |
and uhhmmmm: for those of us who arnt aware of ur blogz address, r we supposed to pull the name/url out of a hat? ![]() |
seun et al with similar opinions: that is y a smart biz man shd register their company as a limited liability. That way, assuming the definition still holds from my commerce class days of 1990 (if not, shoot me ), they are only limited to losing only what is part of the biz, as opposed to personal wealth ![]() |
jacq: because Okoro and Temitope, "who just arrived yesterday (never mind what they do for a living)" have done what u hvnt been able to do in the 10 years u hv been away. In other words, u 'are not sharp enough'. I personally have also noticed a change in trend in terms of those of us who have emigrated over here in recent days: In my day, the focus was on education, so it wasnt unheard of for people both here and at home to ask me "what course are u studying (note that they assume that I am in school)? when will u be finishing? what school are you attending?" Nowadays, it seems, *for the most part*, the emphasis is on making money and returning home. Also, in my opinion, the goals of a 19 year old and that of a 50 year old are totally different. So whereas a 19 year old may have education on his/her mind, the 50 year old is only thinking of how to catch up with his mates so to speak. As such, it will take the teenager 10 - 15 years to even think of what the older person is willing to kill him/herself wiping patients' anuses as a Nursing assistant wanting to accomplish yesterday ![]() Note to those back at home: Most of those "money flashers" u c, end up coming back as paupers upon their return to the diaspora. They work 48 hours a day for 11.5 months, then go back home and do nothing but spend money for the 2 or so weeks they are there. The minute the board the plane back home, the depression sets in (house rent is due in 3 days, how am i gonna pay for it? I think I may hv to work the day after I arrive). Of course, they don't share this with the pple back at home, who are probably saying within themselves "Chei! Nwanem don return o! At least we chop dis time unlike d last time" |
Old glory, True, true talk LOL If na naija, yes, especially the "nwata w at" crowd. I stand corrected LOL |
That is the thing menike - we, for the most part, are too much into competition, envy and showing off. Rather than encourage our own, we tend, again for the most party, to say, "no b my money im go take build house for naija when me i never get". Sick and sad mentality I say. |
I assume this question deals with a situation where the employee works for no one else but the employer - no inherited wealth, no biz on the side, no juju etcIf this is the case then the answer is no. Speaking for the states, each person's salary is pegged (exlcuding racism and sexism of course) to how much that person's peers are making within the same line of work. Also, employers are privy to tax breaks that the employee may not be able to take advantage of, thanks to tricky tax laws. |
According to latest reports, youTube has exceeded mySpace in web traffic: http://technology.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1834036,00.html With a similar article I posted a while back about mySpace exceeding google, I guess it means youTube is the head honcho these days ![]() Just an FYI |
snazzydawn, it is posts like this one that make me wonder if, as that famous bus line in naija has as it's business name, " young shall grow" ![]() In my opinion, the sooner these perennial politicians, who keep on redeclaring their age, leave office for the "young ones", the sooner naija may b a better place. Right now, all they are doing is setting a bad example to the youth of today. Very, very sad, if u ask me. |
I pray so myself dolly-pee. I can feel it, deep in my heeeart (u remember that song from back in the day ).For now though, all roads lead to the US. No ifs, ands or buts. Sorry, sad some may say, but true ![]() |
dolly-pee: without the CAPS, I heard u loud and clear ![]() I thought as much regarding what u had in mind, but just wanted to make sure. ![]() Back to ur post, yes I am aware of the situation. In fact, according to one documentary I watched, $30billion worth of degrees leave their respective countries yearly for the united states where they are not even utilized Sure, many of our degrees may b under-utilized upon arrival, but hey, what would hv been the alternative for such pple back at home - late salaries? little or no job prospects? etc. Of course, I am spking in generalities. As I often ask pple in the states, if it is that bad, y r u still here? I usually get a lot of "ummm"s and head-scratching at this point. It may seem hard, but if it were that bad, pple wd be flowing out, as opposed to in ![]() Bottomline to me (and I spk as someone who has been out of a job for 2 years. I had to learn this the hard way), as long as one is able to put food on their table for their family or themselves, it doesn't really matter what a person does. As Nnamdi Azikiwe said, no condition is permanent. The day wey u no get job for obodo oyibo, na dat day u go sabi who ur true friends be. As always, my 2 cents |
