AllCorrect:

Sorry to say, but you may have to get your mind out of the gutter. Not all women who are nice to you (and vice versa) are looking to do the wild monkey dance. As someone has stated above, she may just want your compassion.

On the other hand, u did say she is single. Perhaps she is looking for someone to be a father-figure to the 4 yr old? U never know.

You have a choice to make - ignore the filthy thoughts or bone up and ask her straight up. If you get fired, so be it. Life isn't easy my brother. Making such choices and sticking to it, regardless of repurcussions is what will ultimately define you as a man wink

I am actually thinking my 2 cents will b worth something with regards this reply of mine LOL

Simple - Teach him cool

We are in the "women's liberation" days. Gone are the days when a woman would just lie down there and take it. Most women I know will school a man if he isnt "handling his business". It's a 2-way street.

On the other hand, and I don't mean this in a bad way (please forgive me in advance o) - on what grounds do you know he isn't good at making love? Previous experience? Based on what you have heard or seen on TV or in a movie? There is no "Mr Right". You could get a guy who is good but a jerk in other facets of life and vice-versa. If you love him, u may have to make do with wat u hv. As I tell pple, I will take a peaceful married home anyday to a woman I married just cos she can make me go 10 rounds in one night. After a while, letz face it folks, sex gets boring and if you want super-sex earlier in ur life, can u sustain it as you get older?

Something to think about wink

Oga Odeku, I will beg to differ with u on this one? grin

Granted there are 2 sides to a coin, I equate okada to the mexicans in the US - if there were no okada to take pple to "uncharte regions" of naija's poor road infrastructure, the economy could collapse cool

All that needs to be done is perhaps a way of identifying them, maybe having them register. I know, I know, pple cd subvert the system, but it would be a start. Govt doesnt need to step in even. If the pple stopped riding them, perhaps the smart ones wd figure out a way to appeal to their clientele. As long as naijans have the "I sabi say e dey dangerous now, but how I go do? I no get choice" attitude, okadas will remain the way they are.

I am pulling at straws here to understand and answer your question, but here it goes:

1) Perhaps the PDF is corrupt (viruses, etc) or even the flash drives are corrupt. U mentioned 3 flash drives. Cd it b they are made by the same manufacturer?

2) Perhaps its in the way u r saving the PDF on ur flash drive to begin with. Just in case, once u copy from hard drive to flash drive, right-click in system tray where it says "remove hardware", select ur flash drive from the window and click "stop" then wait till u c message in system tray that says "it is now safe to remove your hardware (or something like that)"

I hope this helps. In the end, u may just end up having to save directly onto the flash drive.

I told you on another thread that I wasn't too sure about this year or next. The calabar carnival thingy is actually very cool. I attended them from 2000 - 2004. From phone calls to calabar last xmas, I was told that that one was the best. I guess Duke aims to impress.

I don't want to visit naija until after elections in 2007. So 2006, not so sure, but 2007, very sure. Either way, send me email to itoro@bellsouth.net so I can have your email on file. If we no JAMB for 2006, we go definitely WAEC (sorry guys, but I just had to say that grin) for 2007 lol.

Dude,

u seem to have this obsession with government vs the individual. U probably, emphasis on probably, think that I am somehow pro-government as well. far from it. I am not saying (for the umpteenth time grin) that it is govt's job to provide money for its citizens. Rather, it is govt's job to cater to its citizens.

Just like it isn't govt's job to provide money for its citizens, neither is it the job of those of us in the diaspora. Sending money should be out of love and not necessity. We were not sent, like Jesus did his disciples upon ascending back to heaven, to go forth, work and send money home.

Yes, it is govt's job to create the proper work environment. If that means pumping money into a particular sector, as in loans for instance, then so be it. If that means having the national assembly pass laws that would enable both local and foreign companies to flourish, so be it.

As for unemployment being high or low, I will say we are both wrong on this. Until you can show me actual factual figures, I will neither believe you nor me grin. In my opinion however, it is high. How high? That I can't say unfortunately. And I speak for the country as a whole, not one particular region. Again, actual figures would be needed to solve this issue.

Finally, being employed doesn't necessarily imply that such a person is making enough to sustain himself and his family (where applicable). before u get into the "weeell, if they dont make enough, they should develop the necessary skills to make enough, blah blah" statements, then I will say this - perhaps such pple have no access or resources to acquire such skills? If this is the case, enter the government (yes, that evil government). To appease your type, then the government rather than "give" money to the education sector to help its citizens learn what the latest trends are, then they could provide loans that will b paid back upon the person acquiring a job after graduation from learning such a course.

Before you respond, please, please, pretty please grin no more "it is not govt's job" type responses. Once again, I am not saying govt is the all and all, rather govt has its place and if it indeed took its place, those of us in the diaspora would probably have sent $2billion as opposed to $5billion.

Last question (and I promise to get off my soapbox grin) - if it is a good thing for naijans in the diaspora to send money home, then that would tell me that you would support a similar statement apply to other nationalities, to which I ask - why don't we hear that Americans abroad, say, send money back to their pple in America? I am sure some do, but I can bet you it isn't (on an individual basis that is) as high as the case with Nigerians.

ZuluNation:

That thing happened so long ago that I, and perhaps most pple at least in the US, don't remember anymore.

Whether it was staged or was genuinely an accident, she apologized, the album was released, she made her money and that ship has sailed. Also that clip only showed for 30 seconds or less.

Now tell me if what happened that day was any worse than what is being shown daily on MTV, BET, etc wink In fact, a report just came out yesterday that teens who watch MTV early in life are more likely to have pre-marital sex within 2 years of first watching the station than other teens.

Make we take am easy now. It was only a nipple that was shown for 30 seconds. Again if it was staged, then those who rushed to buy the album as a result of the publicity are morons. There are more important issues happening, even as at that time, than the nipples of some woman. grin
BusinessRe: Nigerians Abroad Remit $5bn Annually by my2cents(op): 1:41pm On Aug 08, 2006
Fortunately, I don't have the extended family that some pple have. They don't bother me for money and when I send, it is out of love and not necessity. Havind said that, I beg to differ with what u said. I, first of all, didnt say or imply "excessively high unemployment". There is unemployment for sure, how high, that I don't know. There is unemployment everywhere and thatz a fact. I get my sense of where the country is from a combination of Naija magazines, newspapers, forums like NL and phone calls from home. So unless someone is lying somewhere, which I doubt, I doubt the naija economy is as robust as you may be proposing, emphasis on *may* as I am not a mind reader and don't want to put words in your mouth wink

So let's face it - unemployment or not, it being a genetic defect or not, the fact remains that mos of us in the diaspora send money home to help their loved ones, some to the point where they deny themselves of what they need in the diaspora. Also, for the most part, such monies are usually recieved unappreciated. Finally, usually it is the same pple who rcv such monies who turn around and blame the sender that either they are not doing enough or they are wasting time abroad ("i no sabi wetin im dey do - babatunde just left last year and he has 2 houses. Him, he left 20 years ago, has not come back since. Olodo" grin)

Weeelll Seun:

though I hvnt read the naija constitution in a while, I am pretty sure that govt is to do more than just maintain law and order. As for "giving us money", I didnt imply that. Of course they "give" you money, though most of it indirectly - via the roads you drive on, etc. Direct forms of giving money include the student bursaries and scholarships.

Sure, those of us abroad should give money, I agree. however, when we give as a means of alleviating one's problems, that isnt right at all. If the government, for instance provided the right environment that would create jobs (yes, via various policies, it is the govt's job to create the right environment to attract foreign direct investment, etc), then there would be no excessively high unemployment which would relate to less calls from pple in naija to those abroad to the effect of "bros, make you help ur broda now" or "my pikin wan start sec. sch, make u help us with the school fees (as if I am the one who impregnated his wife grin)".

TravelRe: Nigerians Living The Dream Life Abroad by my2cents(m): 6:14pm On Aug 07, 2006
All in all, the mere fact that those of us who are in the diaspora is enough to say we are living "the dream". After all, what would be the alternative?

Having said that, as I tell pple there, those of us abroad, spking for america, probably put more time into making $1 than they do making N1. The difference is that when we bring the $$ home, it is worth more than Naira. In other words, I can buy stuff in Nigeria for $1 that wouldn't even pay sales tax in the states.

Is the dream alive? sure. However, one must realize that for some, it will remain just that - a dream. So humility and patience is to be exercised. Most importantly, as is typical of a naija person (come on now, u know what I am abt to say is true grin), we want instant wealth. If you are one of those who have or plan to sell your property, visit ofala/ikeji shrine, forsake your family, etc because you are certain of making it better abroad, you may want to think over your line of thought more then twice. Cos, as we say here in the states, life aint what is seems.

Seun true, but (and you knew this was coming wink) those of us abroad are not responsible for the well-being of Nigerian citizens. It the duty of those sworn in to elected offices there to protect its citizens and uphold the constitution of the land.

So to summarize, should we send money home "every now and then"? sure. Should what we send home be used as an excuse (albeit a stupid one) to not do what those in office where elected to do? Absolutement Non! grin
TravelRe: Nigerians Living The Dream Life Abroad by my2cents(m): 5:04am On Aug 06, 2006
To all:
I think the term "dream life" needs to be defined. As far as I am concerned, the term "dream" is just that, a dream. Are we living a better life *on average* than those at home? Sure. Having said that, I personally don't regard having to live off one loan or the other (at the very least, there is the 30 yr mortgage loan which most of us have, make we no lie grin), whereby we are always conscious of how many hours we have not worked so as not to short the light bill; constantly worrying about what is good for us today but bad for us in 4 years; for the men, pretty much kissing our wive's asses so as to avoid her leaving us and not collecting half of our property; putting in so many hours at one or two jobs to the detriment of our kidz development which results in them joining the wrong clicks; working all your life for an employer who can retrench you for no reason literally 20 minutes from your retirement so as not to pay you pension, etc as "living the dream".

Of course, as was the case with Lazarus and the poor man in the bible, the only way for those of us at home to appreciate what I am saying is to be here yourselves. Trust me, I pray that we should all be here on a daily basis grin because if I tell you guys, you won't believe.

Finally, to those of us back home, the next time you escort someone you know to the airport, if possible, obtain permission to go to the "International Finger (whoever came up with that name deserves serious flogging, but I digress)", borrow a pair of binoculars and insist that your loved one sits near the window. If you are lucky, u will c him/her probably rubbing their heads and talking to themselves. Why? Cos most of them borrowed money to come home or probably didnt put in enough hours (that "hours" word again) prior to leaving abroad and now they will spend the next 6 or so hours calculating how to borrow from Peter to pay Paul with respect to bills that are accumulating for them in their mailbox. Some even start work the next day, rather than shrug off the jet lag, not because they want to, but because they have been subliminally programmed to become zombies. Come on now folks, you know what am talking about LOL. That leads to my last question before signing off - do you call a situation where you work so hard and so long that even when you are given the day off, you feel like you have to go to work, "living the dream"? Mba, beeko, iyo o, tufia!!

To "Akan Ubong" wink

If my ancient history serves me right (present-day uni students, if I am wrong, let me know grin), back in the day (as in from the days up until medieval times, the term "ghost" was used. Bottomline, they are both the same. Both words can be used interchangably.

Soooo delala:

There is this thing in web design called "above the fold" where u assume the screen is like a newspaper, where if u fold it in half, the most important stuff is featured in the upper half. In other words, based on ur target screen resolution, u would want to put what you know your clients will want to read in the upper half of the screen, before they scroll. Out of curiousity, have you incorporated this thought into your design? Just asking. Look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ for ideas.

Finally, I am looking at the home page and I don't see any particular news item, other than the Ngozi's resignation, that tickels my fancy. Though a cluttered site, you may want to look at www.nigeriaworld.com for ideas on how to divide your topics.

So, doing what I normally do, which is take things 1 step further, I came up with an interesting statistic regarding those who are posting to this thread:

Naijans in Naija (NIN): 5, Naijans in diaspora: 10, Naijans who hvnt declared a location in their profile: 3.

So, assuming those who do have location declared in their profile are telling the truth and even accounting for the assumption that those who haven't declared are in Nigeria, the ratio of NINs to non-NINs is still 8:10.

So here is my question(and sorry for changing topics but I figure we could use some fresh air wink): who cares about this resignation the most? NINs or non-NINs grin grin

My take on it, and i could b totally wrong, is that she resigned based on principle - she was brought in to salvage naija's financial situation then she found herself moved to another, unrelated ministry.

*Generally speaking*, I bet most Nigerians would be thanking God that though they have been moved around, at least they still hv the opportunity to chop from the govt largesse. My gut tells me she resigned to show her anger at biting the hand that fed the country, so to speak.

I mean, personally, if I were given the opportunity to serve in a post there, if I were moved around like that, I would resign too.
