Sorry lads, Another country has finally beaten us: Denmark - http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/07/27/happy.world.reut/ Which country is the unhappiest? Burundi. In fact, the bottom 3 (y I am surprised, given oyibo bias, I dunno) are all from Africa. Just thought I should share ![]() |
Kaaaaa-bi-ye-si-ooooooo!!! He he. ![]() |
There are those of us who will post what u will actually see, and those who will post a glossed over picture. As much as I love my country, I must say I would choose the former. Cos if our august visitor has a bad experience, he will multiply his hardship by a factor of 100 and make it worse than it was ![]() |
LOL As I can c Skidoc, u and I can yarn for hours on end. |
Oga Skidoc, From from underrating my friend. Did you look at the latter part of my question (cos I knew someone wd say what u ended up saying)? The one about Okorafor in Isiala Ngwa being unable to afford Peak Tin milk for his tea, not to mention tea, not to mention dentist? Read it again and then tell me if I am under-rating ![]() |
LOL krazystage: The poster is in Nigeria. Are there that many dentists there and most importantly, if present, are their prices affordable by the "common man"? Here are a few tips: 1) Brush/Use chewing stick frequently 2) Since bad breath is caused by sulfur deposit on the tongue mostly, perhaps there is a herb/chemical that can b designed to get rid of the sulfur? I dunno. 3) If the person can afford, buy mouth wash, preferably listerine if available. If the person knows someone abroad, have them bring a bottle. 4) Avoid foods with garlic. Garlic settles in the lungs and hence will be percieved with every breath u take. In other words, no cure until levels subside. |
Oracle: It could be. I mean during my last visit, I went to the village, emphasis on "village" and my cousins were sagging their jeans. So, I guess anythingz possible there lol |
Tod_Terry: I always advice first-timers to go with someone u know at your present location, even if it means paying their way. How much is peace of mind worth? I bet more than the $1,500 - $1,800 (depending on when u travel - higher in summer and from dec u will fork out for a round-trip ticket. That person cd then act as a buffer b/w u and the Nigerian environment which could even have a tendency not to be the kindest of places for Nigerians in the diaspora, many of which were born and raised there. With that in mind, y not try that approach? In general, as far as MMIA is concerned, I have learnt to carry at least $30 in $1 bills, grouped in $2 bunches. When approached, I immediately stash a bundle in the officer's hands. If he opens, then I tell him, I am only here on biz and that I have pple hosting me. That has worked like a charm for the times I have been there (2000-2004). You will need I think $1 or so to gain access to the carts. There is only one functioning carousel per arriving int'l flight. Get ready to sweat it out. Even most "civilized only wen abroad" Nigerians in the diaspora will act worse than a wounded lion at that place. The line to get processed is also long for non-citizen entry. Finally, you may have to return to MMIA in the event your bags don't arrive. Most of us have a tendency, even at $150 per extra luggage, to take home with them 10+ extra boxes. I hv personally counted 13 (and u wonder y KLM et al will continue over-charging us for tickets and extra luggage?). For the most part, try not to pack ordinary necessities. We hv pretty much what you have wherever you may be. I once ran into a Nigerian lady who took bubble gum back there, cos she didnt trust the Nigerian variety Sorry for going off-point a bit. Sorry if I am too brash. I blv in telling the absolute truth. No need masking it for ya. One false move, and you could be a part of the statistics. Good luck!! |
Mariory: and y hasnt anything been done? Cos the US has no national interest in the region. Besides, isnt that where Clinton had sent in some soldiers some yrs ago, only to "cut and run"? Besides, does that country produce oil or do any of its citizens have white skin? U shd know the drill about when oyibo helps "Africa".sad, but true. |
yeah, I meant re-organized. Sorry. If it means giving it another name in the process, so be it. |
jackal: Right now, I don't know, but I think its Shaquille O'Neal at $27million. The one I am sure of was wen Michael Jordan was making $40,000 *per game*. So assuming 4 games a week, that would come up to around $200,000 a week. Even in pounds, it is still more than the 120,000 pounds (abi na euros) that the galacticos were earning per week. I could be wrong, but I think I am right on the money here. Just in case, letz not confuse footballers salary with the transfer fees. Zidane may hv been the most expensive player in the world, but most of the 52million bucks shelled out for him was in transfer fees. Check this out: Ronaldinho's transfer fee has been set at 150million bucks (euro, pound, dollar, i cant remember) |
As far as AKS goes, I hear it is Godswill Akpabio whom Attah has annointed. In fact, I was just commissioned to do a website for them: www.akpfonline.com . Note their motto ![]() Problem is that there are so many factions in that one party. We go c sha. Personally, man no go enter dat country until at least 6 months after a *successful* election ![]() |
buchio7, thanks for modifying ur post :We may be saying the same thing but in different ways. That is y i started my post by saying that Annan is caught b/w a rock and a hard place. Of course the major contributor to the UN is america and as they say, u r to play your tune according to who pays the piper. If things dont go the way of the US, they immediately dig into ur past and bring up something that cd hurt your reputation. My take on the oil-for-food program is that it happened. Letz face it, we are all human. Who, even for white house, no dey chop money? Annan may not be involved directly, but he knows whoz hands are. I blv his son was incriminated somewhat? Bottomline, his job is worthless, especially in light of recent precedents. Left for me, I would scrap the organization. It served its purpose after WW2. Like the League of Nations though, it needs to be re-organized. |
I am personally not in favor of a cap, being the capitalistic man that I am. Besides, the money these guys are making is peanuts compared to what their fellow athlete mates are making in the NBA/NFL. |
He he, I would have loved to add more, but the last 2 comments are not divided into paragraphs. Call me lazy or mentally retarded, but after the first 5 lines or so, everything seemed like a blur. Modify ur posts and I may b game. Otherwise, I might feel obligated to remove my notification from this post that has the potential of being very controversial, if not already ![]() |
It is unfortunate when we have to rely on "connections" to go into school. In my opinion, it is the result of indoctrination from the womb which dictates that we are all outcasts if we don't attend university. Granted one who does stands to do better in life than one who doesn't, but what do connections achieve? To me, the answer is clear: a dumbing down of Nigerian Education as well as the encouragement of brain drain. Too bad, so sad. |
Mariory LOL, Sounds like a line right out of Catch-22 ![]() |
buchio7, y must the person b "annointed by attah"? whatever happened to the will of the pple? Y bother voting at all then, if a group of kingmakers end up appointing someone to power? Na wetin dey wrong with our politics b dat unfortunately. Anie mbom tu tu ![]() |
