Damn! what others were celebrating as a joyous day, is a day of personal failing to me. I have finally traded up my Nigerian citizenship and assumed a United State one. Hope my ancestors will understand my dilemma, the unnecessary death on our roads, the untimely passing at the hospital, the lack of quality public education and now the endless cycle of violence, either religious or political have finally driven that nail in. Besides my children may never come to live in my country of birth, the country that gave me a start with quality education that was publicly funded, that saw my mother give birth to me in a public hospital. i have struggled with this decision, but i have come to the conclusion that Nigeria will live on in my heart as long as i breath.

My friend get the fck of nairaland, remember its nigerian.

Nairaland / General / Facebook Suffers Brief Shut Down by mynaija123(m): 12:14pm On Dec 17, 2010
I was surprised to log in to my Facebook Account only to be told the page cannot be found. Was now wondering is this the world biggest site down

Facebook was forced to take itself offline after a staff member accidentally leaked internal product prototypes.

The social network was unreachable for about 20-30 minutes while the mess was cleared up.

The outage happened as the site introduced redesigned brand pages, a revamped photos section and a new page management feature.

In a statement on its blog, Facebook apologised for the brief downtime.

"For a brief period of time, some internal prototypes were made public to a number of people externally." read the message. "As a result, we took the site down for a few minutes. It's back up, and we apologise for the inconvenience."

The BBC understands that the problem arose when code for a number of new products was exposed to the public before they were ready to be launched. This included a feature called "memories" that indexed what people have done on Facebook chronologically.

"They're not pleased that they had to shut the website down for 30 minutes," said Sam Gustin at Wired.com.

"But it comes with the territory when you have a culture of iterative innovation, they say," he said. "Sometimes code gets pushed out before it's ready."

"There's probably an engineer at Facebook who is feeling pretty sheepish that he or she caused the world's biggest online social network to shut itself down for a half an hour," added Mr Gustin.

The news blog ReadWriteWeb saw the funny side of things by listing five things to do during a Facebook outage. They included resorting to instant messaging, using the phone to connect with people and reading a book.

On Twitter, one widely circulated tweet doing the rounds read "Facebook is down. Half the world population had suddenly become productive. The other half of the population is using Twitter."

Politics / Re: Army Deploys 17,000 Soldiers For Internal Security by mynaija123(m): 4:10pm On Dec 15, 2010
Most of you here do not understand what security is all about. In america, u dont have criminals that go around with GPMG (General purpose machine guns), Grenades or dynamites, in Nigeria a militant without one is considered not to be serious in his criminal act. Have  u seen this Gun at work? when u eventually do u will know that its no childs play for the police to handle. Can a police stand when a grenade is thrown?.

Police are civilians like you that is why Mister is added to their names but trained to bring peace and order not to go into war with criminal who use grenades and GPMG.

Please its the job of the army so let them do their job. And for your information, the army has an intelligence unit far more equipped than that of the police. IBB was once a head in that unit.
