Politics / You Hate Kalabari, Ijaw — Sara-igbe Blasts Wike by MyopicMods: 11:02am On Sep 13, 2022
PROMINENT South-South leader, His Highness Anabs Sara- Igbe, lashed out, last night, at Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, accusing him of hatred for the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality and Ijaw nation.

Sara-Igbe, in a statement sent to Vanguard, last night, said the governor’s claim of spending N50 million on the health of elder statesman, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas, whose  burial, he shunned,  last weekend, was “political, insincere,  incongruous and diversionary.”

The Niger Delta leader also alleged the governor directed his appointees of Kalabari extension not to attend the burial ceremonies and that he contributed nothing, the reason for which former Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Rotimi Amaechi tongue-lashed the governor, who attacked his predecessor,  weekend.

He said: “It is appalling and most regrettable that the Rivers State Governor,  Wike,  rather than exhibiting a high level of maturity, responsibility, responsiveness and provide good leadership, anchored on equity fairness and justice, has politically and economically emasculated and enslaved the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality and  Ijaw nation by extension since assuming of office as governor. “

“It is also unfortunate that rather than evolving measures that would foster cohesion and peaceful co-existence amongst the people, and give all ethnic nationalities in Rivers state a sense of belonging, Governor Wike has openly shown his disdain, absolute hatred and nepotism against the people of Kalabari Kingdom and the Ijaw nation at large.

“Governor Wike’s preference is his Obio/Akpo LGA and Ikwerre ethnic nationality as a whole. He is not interested in the well-being of the Kalabari people and the Ijaw nation, some of whom are blind to see, understand and know the extent of his evil heart against the Kalabari people and the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

“Just last week, the governor shamelessly drove through the dilapidated road leading in and out of Kalabari kingdom and Obuoma , the home town of his Deputy Governor.

“The Emohua/Kalabari road which is riddled with dangerous potholes and gullies has become commuters’ nightmare and this has been further exacerbated by heightened insecurity in the area with kidnapping and other violent crimes,  occurring on a daily basis.

“It is sad that despite knowing how insecure the area has become due to the deplorable state of the road, the governor has bluntly refused to rehabilitate the road or undertake any remedial work to ease the difficulties of the Kalabari people who uses the road.

“To further express his dislike and hatred towards the Kalabari ethnic nationality and the Ijaw nation as a whole, Governor Wike was visibly absent at the funeral of a prominent nationalist, a four-time Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an illustrious son of Rivers State and an elder statesman Alabo T.O Graham Douglas,  who was laid to rest,  over the weekend.

“It is disheartening that the Rivers State Government under Governor Wike refused to make any contribution for the burial of the founding Leader of the democratic dispensation of Rivers state,  who made an invaluable contribution to growth and development of Rivers state, Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

“To God be the glory, Alabo T.O Graham Douglas was celebrated at his burial by Nigerians from all walks of life within and outside the country , including the political elite,  kings, chiefs, elders, youths and women.

“The Governor of Bayelsa State and other prominent senior citizens across the country, took the shine off the Governor of Rivers state who was conspicuously absent in the week-long celebrated burial ceremony. What a shame of wickedness and hatred.

“How much longer will it take the people of Kalabari and the Ijaw nation to realize the level of hatred Nyesom Wike has for them?

“For the governor to desecrate the House of God by standing on the pulpit of God and swearing for the Ijaw nation is the height of hatred for a people, who are the reason for the 13 per cent oil derivation accruable to Rivers state, which has made him arrogant and tyrannical.

“The claim by Governor Wike of spending over N50 million on the health of Alabo T.O Graham Dauglas while he was alive is incongruous and diversionary.

” Governor Wike’s concern towards Alabo’s health was for political reasons, he was not sincere.

“His concern was not borne out of love and sympathy for the bereaved, if not he would not be so insensitive and unsympathetic to the extent of abandoning the family members, Kalabari people and the Ijaw nation at a such a critical time regardless of the reason.

“Nothing can justify the absence of the governor at the burial and his refusal to make any contribution to the funeral of the nationalist.

“Nothing can also justify the directive and stern warning given by the governor to his appointees of Kalabari extraction as well as Local Government Chairmen and elected public office holders in Rivers State to stay away from the funeral of the elder statesman Alabo Graham-Douglas.

“May I , therefore, use this medium to appeal and as well advise the Ijaw nation, and the Kalahariems in particular to see the governor for who he is, and understand the level of hatred he has for our people.

“We should stop being fooled by the governor about his intentions, in his fight for political position in his party, with the dubious claim of fighting for the people of Rivers state.

“Governor Wike has no one’s interest in his politics of abuse and insults. He is in politics to grab power, which to all intents and purposes, is motivated by his greed and selfishness.

” We should not be deceived to reward Nyesom Wike with a third tenure in the state through his proxy who will only be in government house to serve him, ” he said.

Politics / Tinubu, Deliberately Chose A Muslim Running Mate To Spite Christians- Musawa by MyopicMods: 8:01am On Sep 13, 2022
The Deputy Spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Hannatu Musawa, said it would be unfair to claim that the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, deliberately chose a Muslim running mate to spite Christians.

While stating that she understands the reason some Christians may feel marginalised, Musawa disclosed that the ultimate goal of her principal was to win the election and provide good governance for Nigerians.

Musawa, in an interview with The PUNCH on Monday, said, “If you talk about the issue of representation, I mean I understand why a Christian would feel sort of marginalised by this. With that, we have to give that particular community an understanding that their feeling on this matter is valid. There’s no doubt they have valid concerns about why there  is a Muslim on the ticket.

“But what we try to do, as a campaign council, is to reach out to this community with a hand of friendship to help them understand that we know that it wasn’t like to besmirch or marginalise the Christian community. It had nothing to do with that.”

Politics / In Case You Missed It: Tinubu Urges Fashola To Sack Striking Doctors by MyopicMods: 10:33am On Sep 07, 2022
Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday advised his successor, Governor Babatunde Fashola, to sack striking medical doctors.

The Medical Guild, the umbrella body of doctors working in the state’s hospitals, went on strike on February 5 over the refusal of the Fashola administration to implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale.

But Tinubu told a gathering of Christian leaders in Lagos that the strike was motivated by unnamed politicians. Tinubu also stated that it would be foolhardy for the state government to yield to the demands of the doctors, noting that instead, it should employ new doctors.

The ex-governor, while speaking on the call by the doctors for the reinstatement of a former the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa, recalled that the guild’s leader was employed during his administration based on the recommendation of the then governor of Oyo State, Dr. Lam Adesina. Tinubu said he would not condone Olaifa violating the rules of his employment.

He said, “Those people make me angry, there is no point holding a dialogue with them again. Sack them and recruit other doctors.

“We have provided conducive environment for them to work and yet they are still not satisfied. It is not compulsory you work for the state government; if you are not comfortable, you can go to the Federal Government that pays more or other private establishments.

“We are not going to reinstate him (Olaifa) because the moment you subject the authority given by the constitution to blackmail, you are finished.”

Fashola, on his part, explained that the crisis had lingered not because the state government refused to increase the salary of the doctors, but due to their insistence that the state administration must implement the CONMESS fully.

“The doctors are not complaining about the environment where they work. We have provided a conducive environment, with well equipped facilities for them to work with. But they are insisting that we pay what the Federal Government is paying its own doctors.

“Lagos has more doctors than the federal Government. We have increased the salaries of the doctors to 75 per cent and what that implies is that the most junior doctor in the state today has his salary increased from N110,000 to N170,000 while a consultant now has his salary increased from N300, 000 to N700,000,” he added.

He put his monthly salary as the governor of the state at N850,000 while other members of the State Executive Council were not earning above N500,000. He flayed the doctors’ request for the reinstatement of Olaifa, adding that the situation was being politicised as the doctor in question was presently running for the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State.

When contacted on the telephone, the Secretary-General of the Lagos Medical Guild, Dr. Saheed Olajide, said, “The strike has no political undertone. I don’t believe Tinubu said so because he is a respected person.

“He could not have come out to say that. However, we are professional doctors, they are politicians. They should not link the strike with politics.

“What we are asking for is our welfare. There was a mutual agreement, part of which was that our leader (Olaifa) should be reinstated. They agreed to reinstate him before we called off the last strike but they have not done so.

“If the governor is saying Olaifa is a member of the PDP, he should check his records. Olaifa is running under Accord Party in Oyo State, not the PDP. We are not politicians and we are saying is that government should do what is right.

There is nothing like Ebubeagu in Anambra state, No existence of Such Outfit

There Is No "Ebubeagu' In Oba -Regent, Ezenwa

By Ejike Abana

The Regent of Oba in Idemili South Local Government area of Anambra State, Prince Noel Ezenwa says contrary to reports making the rounds in the social media space, there is no Ebubeagu in existence in Oba.

Prince Ezenwa stated this as a clarification to the misunderstanding between some members of Anambra Vigilante Group and some youths of the Community.

Addressing journalists in Oba, the Regent described as misleading the report that there is presence of Ebubeagu in his Community

He maintained that all the vehicles that came into the palace on the day of the altercation were clearly marked, 'AVG', saying that things would have turned differently and gave accolades to the leader and members of the AVG for conducting themselves professionally.

The Oba leader explained that what happened was that there was an attempt to identify a personnel in the community who turned out to be a leader of Oba youths but a gap in communication led to the misunderstanding, noting that peace and normalcy has since returned between members of AVG and Oba Youths

Prince Ezenwa who stressed that no life was lost during the misunderstanding, also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for working to entrench security which gave rise to their ability to resolve the issues that came up and pledged continued support to the Governor's security initiatives and lofty ideas.

While stating the need for government to show more presence in communities, Regent Ezenwa revealed that since the advent of Governor Soludo's administration, the security situation keeps improving, expressing optimism that if given more time, the

Governor will perform much better.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne explained that plans are underway by the Soludo-led administration to unveil AVG at the Community levels, explaining that they have been going through the Traditional rulers ab initio.

While stressing that the Soludo government is already at the grassroots, the Commissioner noted that some Communities tend to have their own security architecture without recourse to government policies, saying that being a gradual process, Ndi Anambra should be patient with the Governor because he is taking everything back to the grassroots.

Recall that a few days, the social media was awash with stories of angry youths of Oba chanting 'we don't want Ebubeagu, hence stopping the security outfit from effecting an arrest.

Anambra State Police command's spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, has since clarified the situation as being a misunderstanding between vigilante operatives and Oba youth who felt that the vigilante men attacked their chairman.

Politics / Anambra @ 31: As Soludo Continues To Raise The Bar Of Excellence by MyopicMods: 8:31am On Aug 27, 2022
ANAMBRA @ 31: AS SOLUDO CONTINUES TO RAISE THE BAR OF EXCELLENCE

By Christian ABURIME

As Anambra State Government clocks thirty one (31) years, the Governor of the State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR has expressed confidence that the vision of actualising a liveable and prosperous smart megacity, will be achieved.

Anambra State which is located in southeastern region of the country was created on August 27, 1991. The State is bounded by Delta State to the west, Imo State to the south, Enugu State to the east and Kogi

State to the north

Over the years, Anambra has been on the growing trajectory of development under a handful of former Governors

From 1991 to 1992, Joseph Abulu took over as the

State administrator, succeeded by Chukwuemeka Ezeife who was Governor till 1993. Dabo Aliyu later took over as Acting Administrator and was succeeded by Mike Attah as Administrator till 1996.

Between 1996 and 1998, Rufai Garba served as the State Administrator and later handed over to Emmanuel Ukaegbu who stayed in power till 1999. On May, 29th 1999, Chinwoke Mbadinuju served as a democratically elected Governor of the state till 2003 and was succeeded by Senator Chris Ngige who served till 2006. Mr. Peter Obi living standards of every Ndi Anambra

But by far the area the Soludo administration has stamped its feet firmly within its brief period in office, is ensuring peace and security in the state.

Coming into office at the time the state was challenged by the menace of armed gangs and the so called unknown gunmen, he literally took the fight headlong to restore peace and order. The immediate impact of the climate of insecurity was the daily loss of lives of the citizens and destruction of property.

Businesses were shut and life became difficult for the people. Consequently, many citizens and residents of the state were forced to relocate to the neigbhouring Delta and other states,

With deft strategic moves, the governor rose to the occasion and made the state hot for hoodlums and other classes of petty criminals.

Town Unions and landlords were made to be partners in ridding the state of criminal elements by demanding the true identity and means of livelihood of the tenants and people living in their communities. Measured curfew was imposed on areas prone to security threats. In the same manner, commercial motorcyclists, otherwise known as Okada, were restricted from plying some parts of the state. The result has been drastic reduction in crime rate and rejuvenation of confidence on the people to go about their daily activities.

Urban renewal also attracted the interest of the governor. He has kept faith in clearing the blocked water channels and demolition of illegal structures in Onitsha. He has promised to extend the exercise to other cities in the state.

Suffice to say that, Governor Soludo's administration is living up to its promises made to Ndi Anambra, with the strict implementation of his manifesto which he described as an agreement with the people of Anambra

As the State marks 31 after its creation, Governor Soludo enjoins Ndi Anambra to join hands with him on the march towards building a livable and prosperous homeland for all, where there will be peace, security and progress

Politics / 9 Shrines Used By Unknown Gunmen In Anambra Busted. Native Doctors On The Run by MyopicMods: 8:11am On Jun 06, 2022
Security agencies in Anambra State have reportedly busted nine camps belonging to ‘unknown gunmen’ in the Anambra South Senatorial District.

Nine shrines used by the hoodlums for oath-taking were also raided by the joint task force on security in the state.

A police source said natives who acted as informants to the hoodlums were also in detention and making useful statements.

Some of the areas raided by the task force included Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area; Ebenato community in Nnewi South LGA; Ezinifite community also in Nnewi South LGA; and Ichi, in Ekwusigo LGA.

Other areas include part of Osumoghu, Lilu and some parts of Ukpor in Nnewi South and Ihiala LGAs.

The source said most native doctors had fled from their homes because some of their colleagues who were arrested had been providing names of those involved in killings and kidnappings in the state.

The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said it was too early to begin to count the successes in the war against terror in the state.

Politics / Atiku Vs Wike: How State Delegates Voted At PDP Presidential Primary by MyopicMods: 9:02pm On Jun 01, 2022
PREMIUM TIMES has obtained details of how the various state delegates voted at Saturday’s Special National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The primary produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the candidate of the opposition party for the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku polled 371 votes from the 767 accredited candidates to edge his closest opponent, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who polled 237 votes.

A last-minute withdrawal by Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, swung the contest in favour of Atiku as delegates from Mr Tambuwal’s North-West stronghold and from other states where delegates had pledged their support to him all turned their votes to Atiku.

North-West
The North-West geopolitical zone has seven states comprising Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto and Kaduna. Altogether, the states sent 193 delegates to the convention.

Mr Atiku won five of those states, except Kano where the loyalists of a former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, gave their 44 votes to Mr Wike; and Katsina where the two frontrunners shared the votes.

Mr Kwankwaso left the PDP earlier this year to run for president under the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) but his loyalists still constitute the leadership of the recognised faction of the PDP in the state and gave all the votes of the 44 delegates to Mr Wike.

In Katsina, the Rivers State governor got a share of the votes due to the support of Garba Lado, a former senator who was last week nominated the governorship candidate of the party for 2023.

Mr Atiku was supported by a former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shema, and he succeeded in getting a good number of delegates to vote for the former vice president.

Mr Wike also expected a good showing in Kebbi, but Aminu Bande, the retired army general who won the party’s governorship ticket, did not quite deliver for Mr Wike. Delegates from the states gave their votes to Atiku in solidarity with Mr Tambuwal.

North-Central
The six states in this zone – Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau – were shared by Atiku, Mr Wike, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who had a clean sweep of the votes of the delegates from Kwara, the state he hails from and governed for eight years.

Atiku and Mr Wike shared the votes from Niger State with former Governor Babangida Aliyu delivering for the former while Zainab, the wife of Mr Aliyu’s predecessor, the late Abdulkadir Kure, worked for the Rivers governor.

Atiku won Plateau and most of the votes from Nasarawa. However, Mr Wike got seven votes in Nasarawa where he supported the man who won the governorship ticket of the party, David Ombugadu, and had expected to get more votes in reciprocity.

Mr Wike won in the Federal Capital Territory through the support of the sole senator representing the capital, Philip Aduda, and shared the votes with Atiku in Benue and Kogi.

Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel had some of the Benue votes through his campaign director, former Governor Gabriel Suswan; but Governor Samuel Ortom backed Mr Wike while the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; and former Senate President David Mark ensured Atiku got some votes from the state.

North-East
The North-East geopolitical zone has six states, comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. Atiku is from Adawama and he won outright in four of the six states in his home zone, except Bauchi which went to homeboy Governor Bala Mohammed and Taraba which he shared with Mr Wike.

The Governor Wike camp got pledges of huge votes from Gombe, Borno and Bauchi but the promises were not fulfilled. The leaders of the party and delegates from the states left the Rivers governor disappointed.

South-West
In this zone, votes in the six states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo were shared between Atiku, Mr Wike and Mr Saraki. The former vice president won in Ogun, Ondo and Lagos. Mr Saraki won in Osun. Mr Wike, who also picked substantial votes from Lagos, won Oyo and Ekiti where he got the backing of Governor Seyi Makinde and former Governor Ayodele Fayose respectively.

The Wike camp had banked on Eyitayo Jegede, the PDP candidate in the last governorship election in Ondo State, to deliver the votes of delegates from the state. That did not happen and the Rivers governor’s people remain disappointed in the politician.

South-East
This geopolitical zone has five states – Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo. Atiku won in Anambra (with the support of Ben Obi, Chris Uba and other leading PDP politicians from the state) and Imo (with the support of Emeka Ihedioha). Mr Wike won in Abia and Enugu through the support of Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi respectively. Former Senate President Pius Anyim won the votes of the delegates from his home Ebonyi State.

South-South
Mr Wike won in three of the six states in his home zone. He won Rivers, Cross River and Edo. Although Mr Wike had a public falling out with Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki, he won the state because the governor’s adversary in the battle for the control of the PDP in the state, Dan Orbih, took his faction’s delegates to the convention and delivered them to the Rivers governor.

However, the delegates from Delta and Bayelsa ignored the governor of their neighbouring state, Mr Wike; and gave their votes to Atiku.

Governor Udom Emmanuel swept the votes of his delegates from Akwa Ibom to take his overall tally to 38.

Obi is too stingy - PDP Chieftain, Chris Uba.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain and Anambra indigene Chief Chris Uba, has described former governor Peter Obi as one the stinglest persons he has met. Uba passed the verdict when Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State hosted the meeting of the party.

Not impressed by the quality of champagne presented to them by the host, Chief Uba, in the presence of Obi said jokingly that the meeting deserved better champagne and wine and not the type Obi served them when he was governor.

Chris Uba recounted one of his several encounters with Obi at Government House, Awka when the latter was governor.

He said Obi served guests with champagne "Obele ego" and the quality of wine meant for students and when anybody complained, he would reply by saying that Government House was not a bar or restaurant.

Continuing Uba said: "The worst is that when one complained too much, he would start handling with his calculator, telling you how many schools and hospitals the money saved from buying costly drinks would help in re-building.
