Different Categories of Igbos in Anambra state- Chidi Odinkalu

“The IPOB command-and-control structure — if it existed — is broken down. So there isn’t one IPOB. There are multiple Igbos. And you’ve got political IPOB,” Odinkalu, a Professor said.

“In Anambra State for instance, I think one of the challenges in the election is knowing which IPOB you are talking about.

“There are political IPOB owned by partisan political actors in Anambra State.

There is a faction in Anambra Central who are masquerading as IPOB. You’ve got a set of cults that are from somewhere in Ebonyi State and parts of Abia State as part of the political IPOB in Anambra State for instance. And then, you’ve got the Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB. All of them are competing for space. And there is a commercial dimension to this, because people are making money of this stuff. It’s totally messed up, that’s the truth.

Politics / Anambra Election: APGA Chieftain Obidigwe Intercepted With Loads Of Ammunitions by MyopicMods: 12:22am On Oct 26, 2021
Anambra Election: APGA Chieftain Chinedu Obidigwe Intercepted with loads of ammunitions

Security Agents Intercept Cache Of Arms And Ammunition From Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe’s

Credible reports from Nteje in Oyi Local government Area of Anambra State reveals that a combined team of the police and the military yesterday (Sunday) allegedly intercepted a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the convoy of the member representing Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe.

It was gathered that the raid was made possible following a tip off. The combined security team was then quickly scrambled. A source familiar with the operation disclosed that the team then trailed the convoy of the House of Rep. member till the outskirts of Nteje before stopping the convoy. It was gathered that the security details attached to Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe at first geared up for a gun battle but when it became obvious that the operatives were indeed a security task force, they stood down allowing the special task force to inspect the entire vehicles in the long convoy.

A total of 52 Ak-47 rifles, 119 pump actions and thousands of ammunition were recovered from several vehicles in the convoy. However, the security details attached to Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe insisted he would not be arrested prompting a standoff. Hon. Obidigwe who did not alight from his bullet-proof vehicle allegedly contacted Gov. Willie Obiano and eventually, to avoid unnecessary casualty, the convoy was escorted back to Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo.

It is unclear if Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe is still in custody at the Zone 13 police headquarters.
Gov. Willie Obiano was however making frantic calls to ensure the case was not escalated. A security source alleged that Gov. Willie Obiano was willing to do anything to prevent the incident from coming to the public domain.

This incident is coming barely two weeks to the governorship election in Anambra State and at a time of heightened insecurity in the state. There are fears before now that some political actors are actually behind the insecurity bedevilling the state. In fact, Gov. Willie Obiano during a visit to President Buhari few weeks ago over plans to declare state of emergency in Anambra said that politicians are the cause of the killings in the state with many of those causing mayhem coming from outside the state.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu And His Scam Called Biafra. by MyopicMods: 7:50pm On Oct 23, 2021
@Emma Onye Nkuzi wrote....

Nnamdi Kanu and his followers are always making noise about Biafra. They claim that Nigerians hate Igbo's and dont want Igbo's to leave Nigeria.

The same kanu that installed hatred in their hearts also claimed that buhari offered him Biafra with 5 igbo states and he refused. Claiming that he wants to take Igbo's in the SS along.
The same SS states have made it clear that they dont want to be part of Biafra.

Its just like you asking yoruba's to have their own nation, and they claim they wont go until benin republic agrees to go with them. Because there are yoruba speaking people in benin.

If truly this biafra that is to be founded by criminals, touts and fraudsters will be the best country in the world, why didnt they use 5 igbo states to set example?

By the time the turn SE to dubai, SS will beg to be part of Biafra. But because they are more interested in the donations that come from agitation, they keep telling stories to maintain donations.

Now, if truly Igbo's want Biafra, the first place this discussion will start is at the national assembly. That is where those representing Igbo's will present their case for secession. That is where they will tell the Nigerian government that Igbo's want to leave.
Now Nnamdi Kanu who is promising this Biafra is friends with Abaribe and Orji uzor kalu. Both of them are senators, but have never mentioned Biafra in the senate.
How can you want a country, and your friends who are in the senate are not talking about the country?

This is the reason why international community does not take the agitation serious. They know that Nigeria is a sovereign state, and if truly Igbo's want to leave, they know which channel to use.
Its like going in front of the british or American embassy and be shouting " Give me Visa".
And when someone passes and tries to tell you that you cant get VISA like this, you attack the person. Call him Saboteur and burn his property.

You keep shouting that the British and Americans hate you, thats why they don't want to give you visa. Meanwhile, you have not applied for VISA.
Then your leader asks to pay money into his account to buy microphone and more speakers, so you can shout more. That the more you shout the closer you are to getting VISA. The people keep paying to his account and shouting outside the embassy.

They tell you that 90% of Igbo's are in support, but they use guns and fear to intimidate Igbo's to obey their "ORDER" . Biafra has not come and they are already giving order and enforcing it. What now happens if it comes?
Imagine the UK standing outside the EU and shouting that they want brexit. They can shout for 100 years and will still remain in EU. Because EU will only take them serious when the matter is deliberated in their parliament and voted upon.

Biafra has not been discussed in the state assembly, talk more or federal.
UK that wanted to leave EU, focused on developing their place enough to be independent. They did not destroy their country, hoping to build it when they leave EU.
In igboland, the reverse is the case. IPOB is destroying igboland politically and economically, hoping that they will rebuild it after it is raised.

Its just like someone who is living in a bungalow, desires to live in a duplex. He does not consider the cost of building a duplex, so he demolished the bungalow.

Only to find out he can't afford to build a duplex or bungalow. He built the bungalow when cement was 50 naira a bag, he was making his calculation based on 50 naira a bag, today a bag is 4000. At the end of the day, he neither has the bungalow or the duplex.
The same SS kanu claims it is because of them that he rejected Biafra, are not doing sit at home or protesting his arrest.

Nnamdi kanu knows that Biafra is a scam targeted at Igbo's. If truly he believes that SS is part of Biafra, how come no SS member is a Director in IPOB world wide limited?
How come all the commanders of ESN are Igbo's from the SE?

Why is ESN only operating in SE states?
Today Igbo's are lossing out politically and economically.

Politics / Kanu’s Lawyer Makes Demands As IPOB Leader Appears In Court Today by MyopicMods: 9:05am On Oct 21, 2021
Kanu’s lawyer makes demands as IPOB leader appears in court today

Following the expected arraignment in court, today, of the embattled leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, his lead counsel, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has made some demands on the Federal Government and law enforcement agencies.

Ejiofor, who spoke while addressing a press conference, yesterday, in his office in Garki, Abuja, said he decided to brief the press “against the backdrop of the seven-count smokescreen amended charge filed against his client last week Friday, after waiting for the over-advertised/hyped amendment for over three months.

“You may recall that upon the abduction of our client in Kenya on June 19, 2021, and his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria afterwards, he was secretly brought to court on June 29, 2021 without our knowledge,” he said.

He explained that it was due to the failure of the Federal Government to notify Kanu’s lawyers of the proceedings of June 29, 2021 that they were unavoidably absent, lamenting that when the matter came up on the adjourned date of July 26, 2021 for commencement of hearing in the case, “our client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was not produced in court.”

Ejiofor, who lamented lack of openness by the government in the matter, added that there was no plausible convincing reason(s) for Kanu’s absence in court on the adjourned date, saying the action “was in flagrant violation of court order made by Justice Murtala Nyako for him to be brought to court on July 26, 2021.

While expressing the hope that the ugly incident of failing to bring Kanu to court will not repeat itself today, the lead counsel stated:

“As the world is now aware, today, being October 21, 2021, is the date on record, collectively agreed in open court by all parties for the commencement of hearing in our client’s case.

“We, therefore, demand as follows:
• That today, October 21, 2021 should be sacrosanct. Our client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, must and shall be produced in court to face his trial. Thankfully, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation has though belatedly filed a seven-count amended charge, along with an affidavit of completion of investigation, there is no excuse or place to hide whatsoever again to justify doing the contrary.

• That the security agents, ostensibly to be deployed to man the court and its environs, or detailed to provide security on October 21, 2021, should be manifestly civil in their conduct towards the civilian populace who are expected to throng the court in their numbers in solidarity.”

Ejiofor said it was on record that over 20 persons all of Ebonyi State indigenes/extraction, including a lawyer, who were in court on July 26 to witness the hearing on the case were intercepted and arrested on their way back home, at Lokoja by the security agents.

He regretted that “till date, they were still being held in various detention facilities without access to their lawyers and family members.

Call for Kanu Release,Who will call for resurrection of those murdered by Igbos

Hope all Facebook, Twitter Nairaland Igbos
are already in Abuja for the trial of their supreme baby terrorist. Safe Journey to abuja but remember those who went last time are yet to return home.

Biafra is not on nairaland or Facebook though the demonic kingdom called biafra is dead and buried.

Why we will continue to call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, I wonder who will call for the resurrection of innocent men and women murdered in cold blood by Igbos.

Those murdered by Boko Haram are long gone and Boko Haram leader joined them.

Justice Nyako must make sure that Justice is served both to the living and to the dead.

May the souls of Dr Akunyili and over 40 persons murdered just in a brief of 3 days continue to rest in peace.

Our heartfelt messages to those currently in various hospitals over injuries inflicted on them during the period of enforcing sit-at-home.

We wish you all safe recovery, so that you will tell your story to your children and future generations how a foreign cordinated scam called Biafra turned to nightmare instead of Liberation.

Be healthy to tell your stories.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been called many names including a local terrorist organisation and a proscribed group.

Added to this, Lauretta Onochie, a media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has described the southeast secessionist body as a money-sharing scheme.

Onochie made this serious allegation on Monday, October 18, in a post she shared on her Facebook page.

Onochie, therefore, called on Igbo leaders to rise and flush out operators of what she described as a Ponzi scheme from the southeast.

She said:

"No wonder! So IPOB is a money-sharing Scheme. They don't have Ndigbo in their plans. Ndigbo must arise and reclaim their land from these Ponzi Scheme Operators."

Politics / Lai Mohammed Stole N100 Million Sent To Me By Igbo Businessman – Kwara Governor by MyopicMods: 7:29pm On Oct 18, 2021
Lai Mohammed stole N100 million sent to me by Igbo businessman – Kwara Governor

Governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has accused the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed of allegedly cornering hundreds of millions of naira donated to his governorship campaign.

He made the claim in an interview with ThisDay Newspaper on Sunday, where he narrated how an Igbo businessman sent N100 million to him but he did not receive it.

The governor said; “The Chief of Staff to the Kaduna State Governor called and said Lai gave us an account but it’s not going through, “can you give us another account so we can send you the money?” But I was going to campaign so I said fine.

“I came back two days later and remembered, and I said they should call him and give him an account number. When we called, he said Lai had sorted it out. That one and several. Until today, as we speak, he never told anybody that he collected money.

“There’s a businessman from the South-east. His banker came to me and said his Oga wants to speak with me. I spoke with him and he said he was sending money to me. I said, thank you very much. After the election, he called me to congratulate me.

“When he saw I was just saying ‘thank you’, then he asked if Lai didn’t deliver the money, I asked him what money? He said N100 million.”

AbdulRazaq said the unnamed Igbo businessman later called to congratulate him and also mentioned the donation, but he was unable to confirm receipt. The governor said Mohammed has failed to account for hundreds of millions donated which he intercepted and pocketed in the course of the campaign.

Mohammed did not return multiple requests from Peoples Gazette, seeking comment about the allegations.

Politics / Pandora Papers: I Broke No Law, Says Peter Obi by MyopicMods: 6:28pm On Oct 07, 2021
Pandora Papers: I Broke No Law, Says Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party Vice Presidential Candidate in 2019 election, Mr Peter Obi, has reacted to a media report that he breached Nigerian laws by engaging in secret businesses set up in tax havens, declaring that he broke no law.

An online publication, Premium Times, quoting Pandora Papers, had listed Mr. Obi as one of those personalities who clandestinely set up and operated businesses overseas, including in notorious tax and secrecy havens in ways that breached Nigerian laws.

The Pandora Papers is a leak of about 12 million documents that revealed hidden wealth and tax avoidance by some of the world’s rich and powerful.

But reacting to this Thursday, Mr. Obi said it was exhilarating that nowhere in the article was he accused of any form of corruption, whether in the form of diversion of public funds or in any other manner during and after his stewardship as the governor of Anambra State.

He added that the publication did not also allege that he had been engaged in unlawful business ventures at any time whatsoever.

Obi said his understanding was that the allegation bordered more on tax avoidance and non-declaration of some jointly owned assets.

He then wondered if a thorough scrutiny and appreciation of all the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged transactions were made by the writers.

“On the allegation that I violated the Nigerian Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, as well as sections of the 5th Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), by not declaring any alleged assets in Companies registered outside the Nigerian Federation, I think that the authors displayed ignorance on matters of Trust and International Investment Practices,” he said.

The former governor said he did not in any respect whatsoever violate any law before, during and after his stewardship as the Governor of Anambra.

He said that in all matters relating to his investments and declaration of his personal assets, wherever they may be found, he proceeded, pursuant to professional opinions and advice of investment experts both locally and internationally.

Obi said he also engaged and acted on solicited advice by reputable legal practitioners on whose opinion he relied.

He urged all well-meaning persons to see through what he called “the hopeless sleight, and ignore the publication.

Politics / We Support Emergency Rule In Anambra State - Northern Elders Forum by MyopicMods: 6:14pm On Oct 07, 2021
The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, on Wednesday, threw its weight behind the plans of the Federal Government to declare a State-of-Emergency in Anambra, saying the government must do whatever it required to retrieve the South-East region from the whims and caprices of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other similar groups in the diaspora.

NEF’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, stated this in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Abuja, following the disclosure by the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, that should it become established that there is a failure on the part of the state government to ensure the sanctity and security of lives, property and democratic order in Anambra, the Federal Government will move to declare a State of Emergency there.

READ ALSO: South-East governors move to end IPOB’s ‘sit-at-home’
The Forum said, “All lawful initiatives needed to be taken to arrest the violence in any part of Nigeria need to supported.

“The nation is being swamped by violence by non-state actors. Too many groups and individuals appear to think that they can continue to exploit weaknesses of the administration in securing citizens.

“The Governorship elections in Anambra State must not be sacrificed to IPOB and related interests. Nigerians in this State must be afforded the opportunity to elect their next Governor.

“In general, the Federal government must retrieve the South East from IPOB and diaspora irredentist. No inch of Nigeria should be yielded to organized crime.”

Obiano: Why I wasn’t at S’East Govs meeting. I cannot sit to discuss security with those behind the Violence in Anambra-Obiano

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has opened up on the controversy trailing his absence at the recent meeting of the South East Governors Forum held in Enugu. The meeting was convened to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the South East region, particularly Anambra State.

The absence of Obiano at the security meeting triggered a lot of controversy as his political traducers accused him of being insensitive to the security of lives and property of the people. However, Obiano has fired back at his detractors, explaining that he deliberately stayed away as he could not fathom sitting to discuss security with certain individuals who were behind the violence plaguing his state. Obiano who spoke through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ifeatu Obiokoye described the controversy as “mere factory noise” from desperate politicians who are out to justify the sponsorship of their benefactors.

The governor said he cannot sit in a meeting with those whom he described as sponsors of the killings in his state. “Did you really expect my Governor would be meeting, and dining with some persons ostensibly funding and sponsoring insecurity and terrorism in Anambra State? “What people are saying goes to no issue in the first instance because it is a public knowledge that those doing the killings are not from Anambra state and no Anambra person would go to this extent. “These people are from outside Anambra state and those sponsoring them are from outside Anambra state and you expect the governor to be holding meetings with them on security challenges which those people are executing? “Be it known to all and sundry that the killings are politically motivated to create voter aparthy in Anambra and then manipulate the electoral process to the advantage of these desperados.

“The governor has already put in place a full proof security arrangements to nip the problem on the board than going to sit in a meeting to tell the same people what he is doing to stop them killing innocent people in Anambra state,” Obiokoye said. It would be recalled that the Amb Bianca Ojukwu, wife of late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, had urged the governor to attend the meeting because, according to her , Anambra state is boiling and that he has to take charge and arrest incidents of killing in the state . Also the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) Sen Andy Uba had accused the governor of not rising to the challenges of insecurity in the state alleging that he has been overwhelmed by it.

Islam for Muslims / 3 States In SE That Has Large Population Of Muslims by MyopicMods: 2:06pm On Sep 28, 2021
When it comes to the spread of Islam religion in the south east, Enugu State as well as Ebonyi state and Imo state have a substantial Muslim population than other states within the region.

Enohia Itim in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is said to be the community with the highest number of Muslims in the entire South East.

According to Daily Sun Newspaper, Ehohia Itim used to be a complete Christian area, but everything changed in the year 1958 when late Nwagui Okpani came back from Senegal and began to propagate the religion.

Nsukka is one area of Enugu state where Igbo Muslims are commonly found. The coming of Islam in Enugu dates back to several decades ago as well. Some of the elder that helped in spreading the religion are said to have converted outside the region.

Enohia Itim in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is the community with the highest number of Muslims in the entire South East. In addition to having three functional mosques, the community also hosts one of the most vibrant Muslim schools in Africa. The school is known as Centre for Islamic and Arabic Studies, Enohia Afikpo. It trains Muslim faithful in primary and secondary education. Apart from major emphasis on Islamic and Arabic studies, the school, like any other school, participates in the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO) and other external examinations every year.

Daily Sun gathered that many Muslim families from different parts of the country prefer to send their children to the Afikpo Muslim School because of its reputation as one of the best Islamic schools in Africa.

History of the school

The Centre for Islamic and Arabic Studies was founded in 1958 by a son of the community, Sheik Ibraham Okpani Nwagui. He was said to have founded the centre upon his return from Senegal, where he embraced Islam. A member of the community, Hassan Uron, told Daily Sun that Nwagui embraced Islam in 1952 when he met a famous Muslim leader in Kaolack, Senegal, known as Sheik Ibrahim Nyias, whom he served for about five years before he returned to Nigeria. He was said to have died in his hotel room in Owerri in 1976, weeks after his appointment as Commissioner for Urban Development in the then Imo State Government. The death of Okpani affected the growth of the centre. It was gathered that the place remained redundant until 1981 when the Muslim World League came and took over the funding and management of the school, following an appeal made to them by members of the community.

Why community embraced Islam

Furthermore, Hassan, who said that he worked in the school for over 34 years before he retired in December 2018, explained that the entire Ehohia Itim was a complete Christian area, until the year 1958 when Nwagui Okpani, as he was called, returned from Senegal and started preaching about a new religion, Islam.

He explained that, because of Nwagui’s love for his people and his visible passion for helping the poor, the community met and reached a resolution to join him in his religion, which he said preached love, peace, unity and progress of one another.

“When he returned to Nigeria, Enohia Itim in particular, he started preaching Islam. Because he was a good man, our people loved him and believed in him. They met and reached a resolution to join him in Islam. After some time, the community gave him a portion of land to build an Islamic centre. He converted many of our people and established School of Islamic and Arabic Studies to teach our people and others the true meaning and benefits of Islam,” he said.

Civil war setback for Islam

But for the Nigeria civil war, which broke out in 1967, Islam would have thrived above Christianity in the community and penetrated many parts of Ebonyi State and Igboland beyond what it is today.

It was gathered that the turn of the civil war, which saw the killing of many citizens of the defunct Biafra Republic, made many Muslims in Afikpo to denounce the religion because of their belief that the killings were done by northerners, most of whom were Muslims.

Hassan said: “After the war, some members of the community who were Muslims denounced Islam because of the way Biafrans were killed. They could not separate Islam from the northern people. But some people refused to denounce despite serious pressure to do so within and outside the community. Before the war, Islam was the main thing here and people were embracing it, but the war came and changed the whole thing. We have about 42 churches in Enohia Itim and only three mosques.

“But the most important is that we have been living in peace since that time till now without any form of clash because Islam preaches peace and love for one another. At times, it is even us Muslims that help Christians to settle their differences when they have problems.”

School faces existential threats

However, the Centre for Islamic and Arabic Studies, Afikpo, is facing serious threats that, if not well managed, could see to the permanent closure or relocation of the school from the area. Daily Sun was told that hoodlums believed to be pro-Biafran groups, have been threatening to attack the school. They alleged that the institution was being used to produce dangerous weapons and to hide Fulani herdsmen, among other allegations.

But the director of the school, Sheik Isa Okonkwo, from Enugu State, dismissed the allegations as false, only intended to give the centre bad name in order to destroy it.

He said those peddling the falsehood were enemies of Islam and people of Afikpo, adding that the evil propaganda first started in 2005 when suspected members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) attacked the place using improvised explosive devices. Sheik Okonkwo, who spoke during an inspection tour of facilities in the school on Monday, May 10, 2021, by stakeholders and people of the community, noted that the school had existed in Afikpo for over four decades without causing any trouble in the community. He said, instead, the centre has helped to train many sons and daughters of the community who are doing great in different areas of life.

Addressing the people of Afikpo on the premises of the Islamic Centre, he said: “I was raised and brought up in this land. My coming back here to head this school is a wonderful homecoming. You have touched lives; this community has touched lives and you can never be forgotten in the history of man. You don’t know the length and breadth of where your touches have reached.

“We are here today because of some ill feelings that brought about some allegations that have been going on now for a period of time. And I call it a tactic used when you want to hang a dog, you give it a bad name. This Islamic school has existed here for a period of 40 years, 40 glorious years. Great men and women have been produced in the course of these years and it has been a very robust relationship with the entire Afikpo clan and particularly Enohia community. But in 2005, something strange and unlike Afikpo happened here in the Islamic Centre; MASSOB attacked this centre that year. They came very early in the morning when people were praying in the mosque. They tried to explode about 13 bombs here in the centre but only three managed to explode with very minimal damage. It took the community by surprised as they were not expecting such. After a very serious investigation, it was discovered the attackers came from outside and no one from this community was part of it. In 2017, IPOB came out, they marked 26 of us from South East for assassination, for no other reason but because we are Muslims. They published our names, phone numbers and states of origin. They call us almost every day threatening us. Out of the 26 persons about seven are from Afikpo. Sadly, after EndSARS protest, the threat continued in a higher tempo; they were sending us text messages that they were coming to bomb this centre. Now, there is a video trending that they are coming to bomb the centre because, according to them, we are producing dangerous weapons here for herdsmen.”

He added that the essence of the invitation to stakeholders and journalists for the tour was “to probe us and inspect our facilities to see if there is anything harmful we are doing here. If you have anything bad here, we will leave.”

‘Attack on centre is attack on Afikpo’

After inspecting the centre, members of the community appealed to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to discontinue their alleged plot to attack the Centre, stressing that there was nothing evil going on there.

Traditional ruler of the community, Eze Boniface Oti and the youth President of Enohia Itim, Uro Akpu, who spoke on behalf of the people of the area, said the facility belonged to the community, stressing that it was built by their son for the community.

Eze Boniface noted that the Centre had been of great benefit to the community in terms of education, empowerment and community development.

He said: “The stories flying around that this Centre is producing dangerous weapons or housing Fulani herdsmen is false. This Centre has been here for decades and our sons and daughters have passed through this school. It is our property and the people working there are Afikpo people and Igbo people. We are saying any attack on the Centre is attack on Afikpo people.”

The youth leader spoke in the same vein, appealing that the purported attack will be counterproductive.

“I am a Christian, a deacon for that matter. This school didn’t just start. We grew up to meet this school and many of our people graduated from here. We have lived with the Centre for years without any problem at all. It bothers us how outsiders who are obviously not happy that the school is here will be making unfounded remarks about the school. If there is anything bad about the school, Afikpo youths can never keep quiet. The school is in our community and we are using this opportunity to say it again that there is nothing wrong with the school. Any attack on the school is an attack on our community”, Akpu stated.

Afikpo stakeholders sue for peace

Meanwhile, traditional rulers, clerics and other stakeholders of Old Afikpo block in Ebonyi State, comprising Afikpo North and Afikpo South local government areas of Ebonyi State have sued for peaceful coexistence in the area.

In a communiqué after a town hall meeting with Governor Daivd Umahi in Abakaliki, recently, they expressed belief in upholding the fundamental human rights of all citizens as enshrined in the Constitution with emphasis on freedom of religion, right to freedom of movement including freedom of settlement by any Nigerian in any part of the State.

Chairman of Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board (EBSUEEB), Chief Hyacinth Ikpo, who read the communique said: “We also believe that the same freedom should also provide for the right of movement and religion of any Ebonyi indigenes in any part of Nigeria, in the spirit of harmony, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

“We encourage our people to resist the urge to be lured into causing unrest, unleashing turmoil and setting Ebonyi State ablaze by the prittle-prattle of a stranger in a strange land, by the casuistry of historical revisionists, idle demagogues and peddlers of myth and cargo-cult mentality”.

Primate Church of America(Anglican Communion)Mourns Anglican Priest killed by IPOB

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion’s Standing Committee Meeting for September 2021 held in Lagos, and was hosted by the Diocese of Lagos at the Archbishop Adebola and Mrs. Oluranti Ademowo Christian Resource Centre (Faith Plaza), Bariga, Lagos. The uniqueness of this year’s meeting, which ended on Friday, manifested in the visit of the Church of Nigeria delegation to the Chairman and Publisher of The Guardian, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru and the awards bestowed on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Ogun State Governor, Adedapo Abiodun for their excellent and courageous leadership qualities. Also, honoured was the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Emmanuel Abayomi. The Church also paid a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday.

The Primate, Church of Nigeria, the Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba was also guided on a tour to the Diocese’s multi-mega Centenary City project, situated on a 1,500-plot parcel of land behind PAN Atlantic University, Ibeju, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

Addressing the gathering on the theme: “Abiding in Christ: God’s Panacea in An Unstable World,” taken from John 15:1-8, the Primate and President of the Standing Committee, The Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, noted that the 21st Century had simultaneously witnessed the wonders of the scientific and technological advancements, as well as the chaos of eroding moral and spiritual standards set by God, hence the necessity of abiding in Christ, which he described as a “total and continuous surrender of our hearts, desires and wills or aspirations to the judgment and scrutiny of God, His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.”

Ndukuba enumerated benefits of abiding in Christ and consequences of doing otherwise. He said the benefits include fruitfulness, access to God’s presence, assurance of answer to prayers, empowerment for mission and accomplishing God’s purpose and eternal salvation; while the disadvantages include cutting off from source of life, God’s disapproval and anger as well as eternal damnation.

The Bishop of Asaba Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Justus Mogekwu, who led the Bible Study sessions, urged the people to know what God wants them to be and live to accomplish same. He condemned aligning or following other people’s way, stressing that Christ is the true vine, while others are fake and as such, Christians should abide only in Christ.

Primate of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and Chairman of the GAFCON Primates’ Council, The Most Rev. Foley Beach, who preached during the Eucharistic service and also delivered a goodwill message, identified “great omission” of the Great Commission as the bane of the Church today. He explained that Christ’s mandate to His followers is the Great Commission, but churches are rather too busy with church buildings and other activities.

Beach, who came with some of his Bishops and clergy from USA, condoled with Church of Nigeria for the murder of one of its priests in Imo State. He also thanked the Primate of Church of Nigeria for the invitation and all support to ACNA.

Welcoming the ecclesiastical assembly, the Bishop of Lagos, The Rt. Rev Dr Humphrey Olumakaiye highlighted some of his achievements in the diocese within three years of his translation to the Diocese, which included planting of over 24 churches, Lagoon Radio and TV, Specialist Hospital for the elderly, schools, with fees slashed for all and Anglicans in particular paying 50 per cent, N1m for-First-Class-Graduates Programme, Empowerment of over 70 youths with a minimum of ₦500,000 each, assistance to many dioceses and speedy development of the Centenary City project.

Other highlights of the programme included presentation of awards to some outstanding Anglicans, who distinguished themselves in the governance of their states, not only by impressively responding to the challenges that have bedevilled the nation, such as COVID-19 pandemic, insecurity and infrastructural/industrial developments, but also visibly standing out for justice against all odds, thereby making the church proud.

Appreciating them, Ndukuba said: “They have become beacons of the shining light, courageous leaders and standing for what may not be generally acceptable or politically correct, but what in the long run would have served the good of the citizens.”

Awards of Excellent/Meritorious Services were also given to the GAFCON Chairman, The Rt. Rev. Foley Beach, former Coordinator of Senior Clergy Advanced Management Course, The Rt. Rev. Dr Samuel Sowale and his Assistant, The Rt. Rev. David K. Bello.

As the church prepares for the next Standing Committee meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 2022, to be hosted by the Diocese of Evo, Ndukuba and GAFCON chairman, Archbishop Foley Beach have paid courtesy visit to the former primate and first GAFCON chairman, Archbishop Peter Akinola at his home in Abeokuta. While the church elected new Bishops and Bishop of Lagos, Rt. Rev. (Dr) Humphrey Olumakaiye becomes the new Archbishop of Lagos. He replaces the Most Rev. (Dr.) Michael Fape.

Help: Why Would God Commend the Unjust and Condemn the children of light .

Luke 16:8 (KJV) -
And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

NIV put it thus “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.

New Living Translation
“The rich man had to admire the dishonest rascal for being so shrewd. And it is true that the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with the world around them than are the children of the light.

God said that children of the world are wiser than the righteous. Is this not an affront to the righteous ones?

Politics / Enugu State Versus IMO State, which One Is More Recognized ? by MyopicMods: 11:11am On Sep 25, 2021
Before we make the comparison I want you to know that before this comparisons were made , we toured the two states to compare them .

Coal city or 042 as Enugu is popularly known for. It is a state that is blessed with a good and a working governor that is always ready to serve the people. Enugu is a very neat place with nice accommodations and good resorts to visit. Enugu is know for its ever dependent industries with the presence of coal in the state and it local palm wine.

While Imo state on the other hand is a state that is rich in gas and crude oil . Truth be told that owerri is known for the large numbers of hotels across the state (I wonder how they sell) , IMO state is known for flexing, you can never have a dull moment in imo state .

Mind you both states have beautiful girls
Politics / FG Asks SC To Dismiss Suit Rivers Filed To Stop Ceding Of 17 Oil Well to Imo by MyopicMods: 6:33pm On Sep 21, 2021
FG asks Supreme Court to dismiss suit Rivers filed to stop ceding of 17 oil wells to Imo

As panel adjourns case till Nov 1 for hearing
The Federal Government, on Tuesday, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss a suit that Rivers state government filed to stop it from ceding 17 disputed oil wells to Imo State.

FG, in processes it filed through the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, further prayed the apex court to vacate an order of injunction it issued on July 14, which stopped the process of ceding the oil wells located at Akri and Mbede, to Imo state.

The apex court had in an earlier chamber ruling it delivered in the matter, ordered FG and its agencies to halt actions pertaining to alleged plan to cede the oil wells to Imo state, pending the determination of the suit that was brought before it by the Rivers state government.

The ruling followed an ex-parte application Rivers State argued through its lawyer, Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, SAN.

The Supreme Court specifically restrained the AGF and the Attorney General of Imo state from taking any further action on the ownership of the disputed 17 oil wells, pending resolution of legal issues sorrounding its ownership.

It further barred the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and the Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation from approving, implementing, or giving effect in any manner to a letter from RMAFC office, with reference number RMC/O&G/47/1/264, dated July 1, 2021, which canceled the equal sharing of proceeds from the 17 oil wells by Rivers and Imo states.

At the resumed proceedings in the matter on Tuesday, FG’s lawyer, Dr. Remi Olatubura, SAN, and that of Imo state, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, who are 1st and 2nd Defendants in the matter, made their formal appearances in the case.

While FG, said it filed a counter-affidavit against the Writ of Summons Rivers State lodged with respect to the disputed oil wells, on its part, Imo state said it also filed a motion on notice to query the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to hear the case as a court of first instance.

Counsel to Imo state, Mr. Oke, SAN, contended that since Rivers state brought the suit to challenge the action of some federal government agencies and not the FG itself, the matter ought to have been instituted before a Federal High Court instead of the Supreme Court.

Responding, lead counsel to Rivers state, Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, asked for seven days to file his reply on points of law to the motions by the two Defendants.

Consequently, a seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court led by Justice Kekere Ekun, adjourned the case till November 1 to hear all the pending motions.

The panel directed all the parties to ensure that they filed and exchanged all relevant processes before the next adjourned date.

Rivers state is in its suit, seeking a declaration that the boundary between it and Imo state, as delineated on Nigeria administrative map 10, 11 and 12 editions and other maps bearing similar delineations, are inaccurate, incorrect and do not represent the legitimate and lawful boundaries between Rivers and Imo State.

The Plaintiff is further seeking a declaration that as far as Nigeria’s administrative map 10, 11 and 12 editions and other maps bearing similar delineations, relate to the boundaries between Rivers and Imo, the said maps are unlawful and void, cannot be relied on to determine the extent of the territorial governmental jurisdiction of Rivers state and to determine the revenue accuring to Rivers state from the federation account, including the application of the principle of derivation and other revenue allocation principles as contained in the 1999 Constitution.

It further applied for a declaration of the Supreme Court that the correct instrument maps and documents to be relied on in determining the boundary between Rivers and Imo state, are those used by the Plaintiff in delineating the boundary line between Rivers and Imo state.

Besides, the Plaintiff, is also seeking a declaration that all the oil wells within Akri and Mbede communities are wrongly attributed to Imo state and that they are all oil wells within the territory of Rivers state.

It maintained that only Rivers State is entitled to receive the full allocation of the distributable revenue from the oil wells on the basis of the 1390 derivation as contained under section 162 of the 1999 constitution.

The Plaintiff is urging the court to issue an order of mandatory injunction, directing the AGF to calculate, to its satisfaction, and refund to it all revenue that have been wrongly attributed to or paid to Imo state on account of the limit or extent of their territories, including earnings due to it from revenue derived from Akri and Mbede oil wells.

It further wants an order of injunction directing the AGF to withdraw from circulation its administrative map 10,11 and 12th editions and to refrain from relying on any of the said maps for the purpose of determining the boundary between Rivers and Imo state.

As well as an order of mandatory injunction directing AGF to produce administrative map bearing the correct boundary between Rivers and Imo state.

Rivers State is equally praying the apex court to award it the sum of N500million as litigation cost.

Politics / IPOB A Terrorist Organisation, Now Has 50k Militias: Presidency by MyopicMods: 7:00pm On Sep 15, 2021
APPEAL TO MEDIA TO FOCUS ON CORE ISSUES AS PRESIDENT BUHARI GOES TO THE UNITED NATIONS

For Nigerian diaspora groups to use the world’s largest platform – the United Nations General Assembly – to garner attention to their causes is not unexpected.
It was, however shocking, to see "Yoruba Nation" advocates yesterday unequivocally throw their lot in with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
IPOB is a designated terrorist organisation. It has now publicly revealed a 50,000 strong paramilitary organisation.
It regularly murders security services and innocent civilians, with a significant uptick of violent attacks this year. And it is currently attempting to hold Nigerian states hostage with orders to stay at home under threat of terror.
Without doubt, Nigerians and the entire world will judge Yoruba Nation by the company it keeps.
No one can take seriously this organisation if it continues its IPOB association. When their allies systematically trample human rights, it raises sober questions about their claims to uphold the values of the UN.
The cooperation is a worrying development, once parsed with Yoruba Nation’s increasingly violent rallies in Nigeria.
Actions and associations speak louder than words. Yoruba Nation’s talk of human rights promotion must therefore be ignored.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government will continue its work at the UN- to fight against corruption and illicit financial flows, and international cooperation.
If we want to see stolen funds returned to their rightful home in Nigeria, the government must continue to campaign for and coordinate global action on asset recovery.
The government will remain the leading regional actor in the fight against global terror – particularly against threats emanating from the Sahel. Through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps programme, the country also shares technical expertise with countries from the Caribbean, Africa and the Pacific.
At the same time, the administration is implementing a programme of environmental sustainability to combat developments which destroys Nigerian communities in vulnerable regions.
Only through the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development can we secure a prosperous future for Nigeria.
As the largest country in Africa, the government takes seriously its leadership role and will continue to strive for continental unity, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
Our expectation is therefore for the media to work with the government to focus attention on the core issues the President, the leader of the country has on his Programme.

Politics / Sit-at-home Wasteful, Benefits No One - Anambra Catholic Bishop Okoye by MyopicMods: 12:14pm On Sep 06, 2021
Sit-at-Home, Wasteful benefits no one - Catholic

The continued Monday sit-at-home by people residing in the Eastern part of Nigeria in compliance to the directive issued by the Igbo agitation group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, even after its suspension, has been described as a colossal waste of intellectual, material and other financial resources by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye.

Following the arrest and detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, his group had initially declared every Monday as a day in which every Igbo person should sit at home in protest against the fate of the IPOB leader.

Bishop Okoye who spoke to Fides in an exclusive interview with Fides last Sunday, August 29, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Ifite Awka, during his pastoral visit to the parish, has however frowned on the development, noting that sitting at home every Monday would only promote a culture of laziness, with some individuals cashing in on that to relax and waste their productive time.

The Catholic prelate acknowledged that the cause which the IPOB group fought together with the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Catholic bishops and priests, was merely to promote justice and fairness, especially to marginalized people.

He regretted that the manner which the IPOB had employed in seeking for justice and fairness was detrimental to the growth of people who resided and earned their livelihood in the east. The bishop noted that sitting at home benefited no one as it only added to wasted hours.

He noted that people in Eastern Nigeria were subsistent earners and thus it would be unfair that people were kept at home due to the fear of the unknown, especially those associated with losing their wares and lives in the course of earning a living.

Bishop Okoye who wondered why people were frightened of going out on Mondays even after the order had been lifted, said some lazy people were now using it as an excuse to avoid going to work.

He therefore urged people to go back to work and allow major stakeholders, including Catholic Bishops, who, he said, were greatly concerned about the welfare of the masses, to continue with the fight.

He said it entailed drastic negotiation and dialoguing with those at the helm of authority for better welfare and good governance of the people.

He urged government and security agencies to encourage people to go about their normal daily activities on Mondays by adopting ways of dousing people’s fear.

Bishop Okoye said that concerted effort was needed to ensure that banks began normal operations on Mondays in order to encourage others to resume their normal duties on Mondays.
