Let's take our land back from criminals, Soludo Charges Ndi anambra.


The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, joined hundreds of worshippers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church, Awka, for the Palm Sunday.

Soludo, in his remarks, spoke on the significance of the occasion and the need for the people to emulate the teachings, love, and peace that Jesus Christ signifies.

He reiterated that the insecurity perpetrated in the state was the handiwork of people who were not indigenes of the Anambra state.

He urged the people to cooperate with the government to flush out these criminal elements if they refused to accept the amnesty being granted to them.

He noted that his government is ready to rehabilitate and assist the repented elements to begin a new meaningful life.

He warned, however, that those criminals who refused to renounce criminalities, will have themselves to blame.

Soludo, therefore, urged the people to cooperate and work harmoniously together to reclaim their land back from these criminal elements rampaging and killing innocent people at will.



In his homily to mark the occasion, His Lordship, Most Rev’d Paulinus Ezeokafor, urged the congregation to emulate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Ezeokafor noted that Christ’s suffering and endurance are part of the grace that humanity enjoys today

He also called on the people of Anambra State to support Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in his genuine efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. He urged the people not to be cowed but to brace up and ensure peace and tranquillity return to Anambra State

Joint Task Force Of Nigerian Army and Navy Destroys Unknown Gunmen Camp In Aguluezechukwu


A joint task force which is made up of officers of Nigeria Army and Navy yesterday invaded a camp of the unknown gunmen who have been terrorizing the Aguata/Orumba Axis of Anambra State.

This Camp is located in Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, several arrests where made and a number of commodities where recovered, these include food items, cars that were snatched from individuals, this camp also houses a shrine which is said to be used to prepare charms and swear oath of secrecy by members of this crime syndicate, it was also seen that a bulldozer is used to block the entrance into the camp in order to shield it from attacks.

This joint task force was formed as a result of the state government’s effort to restore peace in the state and get rid of criminal elements who want to make the state unlivable.


It is perceived that members of this group of unknown gunmen are behind the attack on Aguata Local Government Headquarters and Nnewi South Local Government Headquarters

Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu, yesterday, officially declared her interest to represent Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri zone) in the Senate in 2023.

Anyanwu-Akeredolu, fondly called Ada Owerri, which is her traditional chieftaincy title, made the declaration, yesterday, while addressing members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Imo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Owerri.

According to her, her aspiration to represent his pre-marital zone in the Senate was gingered by the need to address the gross under-development and infrastructural deficit in her maiden home of Emeabiam in Owerri West local council and the other eight local councils that make up the zone.

She regretted that successive administrations had neglected the zone, commending the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for approving the construction of a five-kilometre road in her area.

Her words: “I am running for Senate to represent Imo East Senatorial Zone. There is nothing wrong in that other than to change the narratives of power in the zone.

I will go there to make sure that life is made easier.
“Owerri people have acknowledged my importance. When it comes to infrastructural facilities, I am reaching out to everyone. I am a daughter from Owerri that is coming back to fix the community. I have structure in Imo.”

Asked the political party she would run on its platform, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said: “I am the wife of an All Progressives Congress (APC) sitting governor. Where else will I be? APC is the party. If you want to be a good party person, whatever your party arrives at, you have to abide by it,” she added.

She maintained that since her 40 years of marriage (since 1980) in Ondo State, she has ensured good relationship between Imo and Ondo states via constant visits to Imo State every December and other festive periods except when she undertook a two-year study abroad.

She also said she had used her Breast Cancer Foundation to touch the lives of many people in Imo State. Imo East Senatorial District has nine local councils comprising Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, Owerri West, Mbaitoli, Ikeduru, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ngor Okpala.

The United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory to its citizens visiting Nigeria. It mentioned 12 states in the West African country to avoid.

The advisory from the UK through its Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) comes amid the series of attacks by gunmen in the northern region of Nigeria


In a statement published on its website “updated March 29, 2021” and “still current at March 30, 2022,” expressed concern over the attack on the Kaduna airport killed at least one airport official in the latest in a series of attacks by gunmen in the north of Nigeria

The foreign government also urged its citizens to monitor local media, and avoid any demonstrations or large gatherings.

Speaking to other men of God recently, the Senior Pastor of the Living Faith church opined that the Catholic church is the longest organized system on earth.

_Police arrest six suspects, recover one Sub-machine gun (SMG)rifle and Ammunition_

In line with the stated commitment of the Commissioner of Police *CP Echeng Echeng* and deliberate strategies which involves both covert and overt operations, to wipe out all criminal elements and other violent crimes in the state, Police operatives have arrested six suspects flouting the state government directive on ban on touting and illegal revenue collection, recover one SMG rifle, one magazine and four ammunition.

Six of the suspects, namely:

Andrew Chukwueze 'M', aged 19years of Nkanu East, Enugu State,

Emmanuel Charles 'M' aged 18years of Umualoma in Orlu, Imo State,

Chigozie Bernard, 'M' aged 20years of Izza-west in Ebonyi state,

Chibueze Nduife 'M' aged 30years of Ebonyi State,

Nnamdi Anyigba 'M' aged 27years of Enugu State and

Ebuka Ogidi 'M' age 25years of Ebonyi,

between 23/3/2022 and 26/3/2022, were arrested along kara junction, Atani road and Obudogwu road while touting and collecting revenue illegally from motorists and other members of the public.

On a related incident on 24th March, 2022, police operatives in a joint patrol with Vigilante group along ring-road Isiagu, Awka, sighted group of boys suspected to be armed robbers. In an attempt by Police Operatives to accost the suspects, they took to their heels and abandon a bag containing one SMG rifle, one Magazine and four live ammunition. Efforts are already emplaced to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The *CP* while reiterating the Police, as an organization saddled with the constitutional responsibilities of protection of lives and properties as well as maintenance of law and order, assures that the Command will not fold her hands and allow some disgruntled elements to make life unbearable for the residents. He also commended the Officers and Men of the Command for their perseverance and painstaking efforts to weed out all criminal elements in the State.

Wike urges new Oba of Ogbaland to emulate his late father

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has appealed to the new Oba of Ogbaland His Eminence, Nwachukwu Obuoha Nnam-Obi, III, to follow the footsteps of his predecessor and late father.

The governor, who spoke when the Ogba traditional council and stakeholders formally introduced their new monarch to him in Government House at the weekend recalled that the late Oba consulted with government regularly, carried his traditional office with dignity and was respected across the country.

Wike also asked him to be a man of peace, exude intelligence like his late father and ensure the peaceful coexistence of Ogba people.



He said: “I hope you will continue that way. Your business is the interest of your people and make sure that your communities are in peace.”

The governor directed the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaus Adangor and the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Soni Ejekwu to issue certificate of recognition and staff of office to the new Oba as a first-class traditional ruler.

Wike warned communities across the state to stop disrupting the operations of oil companies within their domains.

He said: “It is not when you go and blowup oil pipelines or gas pipelines that you get what you want to get. No community can do it alone.


“There is nothing wrong with you liaising with government to make sure companies fulfil their promises and whatever is provided in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). You need government to give you support.

“Because if you recongnise the government, the first thing you will do is to let government know that these are your grievances against the companies operating in your domain.

“It shouldn’t be to just go and take the action and say government will come. I will not come. But you get the support if you don’t take the laws in your hands.”

Expressing the gratitude of the Ogba people, the Oba of Ogbaland, Nwachukwu Nnam- Obi III thanked Wike for the recognition he accorded his throne.

The Oba thanked Wike for the various developmental projects executed in Ogbaland and for thr restoration of peace particularly in Omoku.

He said: “We want to thank you for the peace we enjoy in our area. We will recall that a while ago it was turbulent, it was difficult for people to lie down and sleep. Lagos, Ogun, Rivers lead as states’ debts hit N6.43tn in 2021–DMO

The domestic debts owed by state governments and the Federal Capital Territory Administration rose to N6.43tn at the end of 2021.

While sub-national domestic debt stock was N4.46tn, the sub-national external debt stock was N1.97tn in 2021.

Lagos, Ogun and Rivers became the three most indebted states, according to the latest data from the Debt Management Office.

The N4.46tn domestic debt represents 11.27 per cent of the country’s domestic debt stock of N23.70tn as of December 2021, up from N20.21tn in the previous year.

Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Imo emerged as the top five debtors, with a combined domestic debt stock of about N1.56tn.

The five states account for 34.98 per cent of the total domestic debt owed by the sub-national governments in the country as of December 31, 2021.

Lagos owed N658.96bn, Ogun N232.62bn, Rivers N225.51bn, Akwa Ibom N214.61bn, and Imo N205.19bn as of Q4 2021.

However, according to the DMO, the domestic debt stock figures for Rivers State were as at September 30, 2021. This also applies to Benue, Enugu, and Kano.

Other states with high domestic debts include Cross River, with a debt of N159.82bn; Delta, N154.61bn; Bayelsa, N154.61bn; Plateau, N150.5bn; Oyo, N142.56bn; and Osun, N134.70bn.

Others are Benue, with a domestic debt stock of N128.35bn; Kano, N111.9bn; Zamfara, N99.94bn; Adamawa, N99.55bn Bauchi, N97.51bn; Borno, N95.63bn; Abia, N95.21bn; Kwara, N93.37bn; and Taraba, N93.18bn.

The states with the least domestic debt stocks include Jigawa, with a debt of N31.36bn; Ebonyi, N42.16bn; FCT, N50.65bn; Kebbi, N52.33bn; Nasarawa, N54.1bn; Anambra, N55.72bn; and Kaduna, N61.71bn; Enugu, N69.17bn; and Gombe, N69.13bn.

Others are Kogi, N70.66bn; Sokoto, N71.29bn; Edo, N78.9bn; Niger, N83.4bn; and Yobe, N82.46bn.

In foreign debt, Lagos leads with $1.33bn; followed by Kaduna $595.12m; Cross River $279.71m and  Edo State $276.3m.

The Obl of Awka Ancient Kingdom, Eze Uzu Ill of Awka. Obi Austin Ndigwe, has condemned the attack on the widow of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu by the wife of the former governor of Anambra State, Ebelechukwu Obiano, during yesterday's inauguration of Governor Charles Soludo.

In a statement released today, the monarch gave Mrs Obiano seven days to publicly apologize to the entire Igbo people or face serious consequences.

"She should also tender an unreserved apology to the new Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for her disgraceful conduct during his inauguration. The same should go for the chief judge of the state who was conducting the swearing-in when she descended on Bianca.

"This grave sin was committed in the land of Awka which is known for peace and unity. Therefore, as the traditional ruler of the people and chief custodian of our culture, I am under obligation to perform some sacrifices to cleanse our land of this filth and pollution and to appease the gods."the statement read

The monarch added that he has spoken with Bianca Ojukwu who told him that what angered her was that Mrs. Obiano walked up to her and called her unprintable names, including querying her presence at the swearing-in ceremony.

"It must be pointed out that Bianca was not at that ceremony as Blanca, but as a direct representative of our late father and leader, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, her late husband who pioneered APGA.

Therefore, Ebele's action of casting aspersion on her is an affront on the entire Igbo people. It was indeed on Odumegwu Ojukwu and not on Bianca as a person. This is an insult to Igbo and it must not go unpunished.

It is on record that I took Obiano and this his wife, Ebere to Bianca Ojukwu where they knelt down while seeking the party's governorship ticket. Bianca endorsed Obiano and called on all APGA members including then Governor Peter Obi to support him.

In a statement released by its President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Ohanaeze youths ordered Obiano family to apologize to the entire Ndigbo without delay.

According to the group, Mrs. Obiano's action is a big insult to the entire Igbo race and it would not sit and watch anyone denigrate Ojukwu's family.

A group, the Northern Alliance for National Cohesion, NANC, Tuesday demanded immediate retraction and a public apology from the Rivers state Nyesom Wike for allegedly comparing one of the state’s traditional chiefs to the legendary Sheikh Uthman Dan Fodio, founder of the Sokoto Caliphate.


This is even as the group took exception to Governor Wike’s recent outburst against Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu .


While calling on Northern governors and the leadership of the PDP to call Wike to order, the group threatened to punish the governor if ye fails to apologize over his comment.


Addressing newsmen in Abuja, convener of the group, Bello Ibrahim said, “our attention has been drawn to the several disparaging comments of the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike, wherein he openly attacked some leaders, members and other critical stakeholders of our great party, the PDP. 

“Just yesterday, Governor Wike in his usual manner, attacked the Deputy Governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, for expressing his personal views and opinion before the party’s national working committee who went to the state for some party assignments. 


“As if that was not enough, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike took another swipe on the Governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for responding to him on certain issues of great concern to the  oneness and unity of the party.



“It is distasteful to also recall a scenario, where Wike spat at the reverence of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio in one of his infantile outings. Wike was seen comparing one of his traditional chiefs to our very respected and iconic Sheikh Dan Fodio. That unpopular outing is the most uncomplimentary remarks against Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio by anyone from southern Nigeria in recent history.


“Wike has shown disregard for the hierarchy of the Peoples Democratic Party, as he recently threatened to invoke some sections of the party’s constitution, should the national chairman fail to sanction the Deputy Governor of Edo State – Philip Shuaib. It is laughable that Governor Wike, who was the brain behind the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff that almost derailed the ideals of PDP is now a preacher of morality.


“Worthy of note too is that Governor Wike has serially disrespected his colleague governors, as he unceremoniously assumes the role of a moral compass. Wike is assuming the status of a demigod, as his conducts negate the principles of appropriateness. 


“Governor Wike’s infantile outings call for concern, but more worrisome is the silence of Governors Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, particularly at the time Wike mockingly compared a traditional chief from Rivers State with Sheik Usman Dan Fodio. Their silence was in principle a show of cowardice or tacit approval of Wike’s show of shame.


“Courtesy and decorum are now obsolete in the public conduct of Governor Wike. A governor should be wary of his public utterances, particularly now that peace and security are scarce national commodities. 


“At Northern Alliance for National Cohesion, we are perturbed by the conduct of Governor Wike, for same could snowball into anarchy. An egalitarian Nigeria should not trudge on calling a spade, a spade. Governor Wike’s tendencies are infamous and dangerous and every leader of conscience must rise to halt the serial abuses of Governor Wike, ” Ibrahim said.


Consequently, the group demanded amongst others,  “an immediate retraction and a public apology from Governor Wike on his infamous comparison of Rivers State Traditional Chief with Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio.


“A concerted effort from Northern Governors and political elites, distancing themselves from the uncourteous tendencies of Governor Wike; and “a robust political machination, particularly within the PDP or any other political party Governor Wike may align with, to ensure he doesn’t cause further consternation, as he has proven to be a flammable leader that would use power recklessly.”

Following the recent diatribe between the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and his Edo State counterpart, Governor Godwin Obaseki over the crises in the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  a group, under the auspices of Wike Ambassadors Network, WAN, has called for calm and urged Governor Obaseki to tender an unreserved apology to his colleague and erstwhile political benefactor.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, National Coordinator of WAN, Comrade Adams Abonu described the acrimony between the two

PDP governors as ‘’ill-timed’’ and capable of breeding bad blood within the ranks of PDP.

His words, ‘’It is rather unfortunate to observe how decorum and common sense was thrown into the wind by Governor Godwin Obaseki while trying to respond to the issues raised by his counterpart Governor Wike bothering on insubordination to the party by the deputy governor of Edo State.

“Instead of approaching the germane issues raised by Wike with objectivity and sincerity, that the Edo State governor could descend to name-calling and vituperations were not expected of someone of Obaseki’s standing ‘’Supporters of PDP and indeed Nigerians at large could observe the extent of Governor Wike’s determination in ensuring the reelection of Governor Obaseki and his deputy when their former party denied them the platform to seek reelection. “The duo of Obaseki and Shuaibu turned the Rivers State Government House into a pilgrimage and looked up to the dexterity and political connections of Governor Wike during the run-up to the 2020 Edo guber election. To turn around and spite Governor Wike who superintended their successful reelection smacks of sheer ingratitude and amounts to biting the fingers that fed them.”

He added that the group would take it upon themselves to mediate between the two sides to engender harmony within the party while also calling on the leadership of PDP under Senator Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of PDP, to intervene in the interest of the party and supporters.

Continuing, Comrade Abonu reiterated the need to instil discipline within the party in order to forestall insubordination and ensure the supremacy of the party at all levels.

‘’For a deputy governor to bypass all known channels of protocols and issue threats to a party like the PDP on national television is the height of impunity and this must be dealt with every sense of correction. Comrade Shuaibu should have known better than descending to such exemplary low being a politician with considerable repute.

“The party is bigger than the ambition of any governor who is not able to carry every member along,’’ Abonu emphasised.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has knocked his Edo State counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, saying they are both not on the same level when it comes to party politics.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that Obaseki warned Wike not to cause disruption in PDP while maintaining that all members are equal under the platform.

The governor was responding to Wike’s outburst on his (Obaseki) Deputy, Philip Shaibu, over the concerns Shaibu raised about how they were being treated in PDP following their defection to the party.

Obaseki, in a statement he personally signed on Monday, informed Wike that the party belongs to all members and that no member can claim ownership of it.

“It clearly amounts to delusion of grandeur, for any one man to nurse the idea that he owns or has more stake in the PDP and everyone should pander to him.

“We are all equal stakeholders in the party and an aggregate of the ideas, opinions, and contributions of all leaders and members should form the position of the party and not the view of one individual or a select few,” Obaseki said.

However, in his response, Wike described Obaseki as a “serial betrayer and an ungrateful person”, adding that he has more stake than the Edo governor in PDP.

Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of Community Secondary School, Omuanwa, in Rivers state, Wike maintained that he had contributed to the fortune of the party more than Obaseki.

“I am not in the class of Obaseki, never! We are not the same, we can’t be the same. I was the DG of his campaign, I went there (to Edo) for three days.

“I stayed there without having my bath. I have never seen somebody like that in my life – a serial betrayer.

Let me tell you Obaseki, I know your cohorts and I will smoke all of you out. This is not the Benin artefact that you were challenging the Oba (of Benin), this is politics.

“Obaseki, I have more stake in PDP than you. I have fought for this party, mention one thing that you have done for the PDP.”

Furthermore, Wike apologised to a former national chairman of All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, who he claimed, earlier warned him about Obaseki.

“If you check the DNA of Obaseki, what you will see in that DNA is betrayal, serial betrayal, and ungratefulness.

“Let me stand today to apologise to Adams Oshiomhole who has been vindicated by telling us that we will see the true colour, the insincerity, the ungratefulness of Governor Obaseki.

“We have voted for PDP since 1999 till now; ask Governor Obaseki if he has done anything for PDP (or) voted for PDP. The only election he voted was his own election – where we gave him an umbrella.”

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested the General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos while on his way to a three-week crusade in Nairobi, Kenya, with 54 sticks of drugs wrapped around his body.

The youthful and popular preacher who has his church headquarters in Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu road, Awka, Awka North LGA, Anambra state and two other branches in Lagos and Abuja, was arrested on Monday 7th March, during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi via Addis Ababa.

A statement by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy said, “When the 54 sticks found on the General Overseer were tested, they proved positive to cannabis.

“The clergyman confessed during the preliminary interview that he packed that quantity of illicit substance on his body to use during his three weeks crusade in Kenya”.

“On the same day, another passenger, Nnakeanyi Chukwuka King who arrived at the airport on Ethiopian Airlines flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa was intercepted during the inward clearance of passengers at the E-Arrival Hall of the MMIA.



“During a search of his luggage, forty (40) parcels of Cocaine concealed inside bottles of body cream with a gross weight of 9.70kg were recovered from the suspect.

“Three days later, Wednesday 9th March, another passenger on Ethiopian Airlines flight to Italy, Mr. Edo Blessing was intercepted at the Departure Hall of the airport with 2, 090 tablets of Tramadol 225mg and Flunitrazepam.

“The suspect who hails from Edo state but lives in Italy claimed ownership of the recovered psychotropic substances.

“Also on the same day, operatives arrested a freight agent, Rafiu Abbas at the NAHCO Export Shed of the airport when he presented a cargo containing 19.15kg cannabis going to London.

“The illicit substance was concealed inside plastic containers labelled as “African Dishes” and packed in a bag.

“In a related development, a 63-year-old Vincent Obimma was on Friday 11th March arrested with 350grams of cocaine and 150grams of heroin by NDLEA operatives at a park in the Apapa seaport corridor in Lagos.

“The drugs were hidden in industrial torch packets heading to Kano, Kano state.

Meanwhile, a drug dealer in Kaduna state, James Okenwa has been arrested in a follow-up operation at Central Market, Kaduna.

He admitted the ownership of 1,807 bottles of cough syrup with codeine that were earlier recovered from two suspects at the tollgate.

At the point of his arrest, another 152 bottles of the drug were recovered from his vehicle. He has accepted ownership of all the 1,959 bottles of codeine syrup.

In Yobe state, two fake security agents: Akalonu Justin and Azimbi Festus who were coming from Onitsha and heading to Maiduguri, Borno state have were arrested with 25 blocks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 12 .5kg and 1, 598 bottles of Codeine Syrup weighing 159.8 Liters, while 85kg of cannabis was also recovered from the warehouse of a notorious drug dealer in Pawari area of Damaturu, the state capital on Thursday 10th March.
