Religion / Akwaibom Pastor Mr Ntia Apologises To Obi Cubana Over ‘harsh, Unkind’ Comment by MyopicMods: 8:43pm On Jul 21, 2021
Akwaibom Pastor Mr Ntia apologises to Obi Cubana over ‘harsh, unkind’ comment .

A Pentecostal pastor has publicly apologised to a popular Nigerian nightlife entrepreneur, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana over a controversial comment.

Mr Cubana, a few days ago, thrust himself, his brand, his friends, and his Oba community in Anambra State, Nigeria’s South-east, into limelight when he buried his late mum with style and glamour that seemed unheard of in any part of Nigeria.

Aside from numerous celebrities, amazing gift items, including hundreds of cows, wads of naira notes were frequently thrown into the air by Mr Cubana’s friends during the burial.

Clips of the ceremony, posted on the Internet, got Nigerians talking – several people who attacked Mr Cubana, questioned his source of money, while others defended him as “a good and generous man”.

“The place where you are standing to spray money, the road is not tarred…. Can’t you see the stupidity of illiteracy,” Ntia Ntia, the pastor of Full Life Christian Centre, Akwa Ibom State, reportedly said of Mr Cubana.

Mr Ntia’s remark attracted outrage from several Nigerians who said Mr Cubana was a better man and “more godly” than many Nigerian pastors.

‘I’m sorry!’

The pastor retracted his statement and apologised to Mr Cubana, after the backlash.

Mr Ntia said, in a clip that is being circulated on Facebook, that he immediately changed his perception about Mr Cubana after watching a BBC interview where the celebrity businessman talked about his humble beginning, his struggles, and how he made his first N1 million.

The pastor said his comments on Mr Cubana were “very harsh and unkind

“I want to say that the comments came out very wrong and prematurely. With further information, the life that the man has affected, the people that the man has lifted, the destinies that he has invested in, sincerely I want to say that it is not my intention as a preacher to preach to cause hurt or to cause pain or to preach to discredit anybody, at all.

“As a preacher, my assignment is to preach words that heal, not hurt, words that help, not harm. Therefore, in any way those comments might have caused harm or pain, I sincerely apologise.”

He also apologised to Mr Cubana’s friends and others who may have been hurt by his comment.

Mr Ntia said Mr Cubana is “a great man, with the things he has done”.

He said he regretted his comment, and that he has “100 per cent” respect for the businessman.

“We need more of such people who have a heart for others and would go to a great extent to invest in others,” he said.

Besides, Mr Ntia said his wife is from Anambra State, and, therefore, Mr Cubana is his in-law.

Education / 11-year-old Boy Bags Bachelor’s Degree In Physics While Taking Master’s by MyopicMods: 5:54pm On Jul 07, 2021
11-year-old boy bags bachelor’s degree in Physics while taking master’s courses on the side.

An 11-year-old boy has graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Antwerp, Belgium

Laurent Simons, from Oostende on the Flemish coast, Belgium, successfully completed a three-year course in one year, whilst also taking master’s courses on the side.

He outperformed other students by getting the highest distinction possible.

Simons has been studying for his bachelor’s degree in physics since March 2020, and he now graduated with 85%, which is the highest distinction,” said an Antwerp University spokesperson.

“This year, he also took some courses from the master’s programme. After the summer, he will officially start his master’s degree,” the spokesperson added.

The young boy said he put all other work on hold to take courses on classical mechanics and quantum physics, as he “wanted to know everything about these subjects right away.”

Immortality, that is my goal. I want to be able to replace as many body parts as possible with mechanical parts. I have mapped out a path to get there. Quantum physics – the study of the smallest particles – is the first piece of the puzzle.

“Two things are important in such a study: acquiring knowledge and applying that knowledge. To achieve the second, I want to work with the best professors in the world, look inside their brains and find out how they think,” Simons added.

Simons studied at TU Eindhoven when he was nine years old, and would have been the youngest person ever to obtain a diploma in higher education, however, he left due to disagreements with the Dutch university before graduating.

He also previously studied at UGent where he already obtained credits, meaning he could obtain his bachelor’s degree with a shorter programme at Antwerp University.

Education / Cut-Off Marks Into Unity Schools: 134 For South-East, Anambra 139, 2 For Zamfara by MyopicMods: 6:31pm On Jul 05, 2021
Nigerian Government Puts Cut-Off Marks Into Unity School At 134 Average For South-East, Anambra 139, As Low As 2 Marks For Zamfara State.

The Federal Ministry of Education pegs cut-off marks for admission into the 104 unity schools nationwide at 134 on average for the five South-East states, while states in the North have cut-offs of 20 marks and even below.

This cut-off is out of a total 300 marks.

SaharaReporters obtained the cut-off lists as released by the Ministry for the 2020/2021 academic year, showing the huge disparity between the cut-off marks which candidates from South-East and South-West states should have and what the candidates from North should obtain.

According to the breakdown, Anambra has the highest cut-off of “139 marks for both males and females; Imo 138; Enugu 134, Lagos 133; Delta 131, Ogun 131, Abia 130 and Edo.”

Osun and Oyo also are among the 10 top with the highest cut-off marks with both of them having 127 marks.

SaharaReporters observed that the least 10 cut-off marks for Unity Schools are all northern states; Gombe 58; Nasarawa 58; Borno 45; Jigawa 44, Bauchi 35; Kebbi has 9 for males and 20 for females.

Also, Sokoto has 9 for males and 13 for females; Zamfara has 4 marks for males and 2 for females.

Taraba and Yobe are the least states with Taraba having 3 for males and 11 for females while Yobe has 2 for males and 27 for females.

The cut-off marks were reportedly released by the National Examination Council.

“Some pupils are admitted into Unity schools with as low as two marks in the common entrance examinations while some can only get into the same schools with at least 130 marks. Slowly mediocrity has crept in.

“While a candidate from Anambra State has to struggle for 139, a candidate from Zamfara is looking for just 4 marks. Yes, it is true that the quota system is meant to give educationally disadvantaged regions of the country an opportunity to access quality education, but that gap is ridiculous.

“Merit should also be a strong consideration,” an education expert, who did not want his name in print, explained.

Igbos Respect Human lives. That ideology has been defeated by Imo and Abia States. Such things we used to hear about sanctity of human lives in east has been defeated by the inglorious picture from Imo and Abia States.

From killing ten Innocent girls to chopping off someone's manhood and been defended by people from these states shows that they have no respect whatsoever to human lives. It clearly shows Igbos are cannibals and no respect for human lives in these states.

Senseless killings by Igbos to whosoever they perceives as enemy in these states is now on high scale.

Politics / Kwara Monarch Sues Ilorin Emir For Installing Hausa Leader In Jebba by MyopicMods: 1:42pm On Jul 02, 2021
The Oba of Jebba in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Abdulkadir Adebara, and the Serikin Hausawa of the town, Yusuf Gwadabe, have dragged the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, before a Kwara State High Court over the planned installing of a new leader for the Hausa community in the ancient town.

Joined as a co-defendant in the suit is Alhaji Nasir Illyasu. He is to be installed as the new Serikin Hausawa of Jebba on Friday (today).

In a suit filed before Justice E. B. Mohammad and argued on Thursday, the traditional ruler challenged the emir over the planned installation.

The counsel for the plaintiffs, Adekunle Bamidele, said that Yusuf Gwadabe was the recognised Serikin Hausawa of Jebba, having been installed since 2017 with a letter of recognition acknowledging him as the authentic titleholder by one Kinrinjin Adebara for the then chairman of the Moro LGA.

Bamidele prayed the court “to restrain Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin, from turbaning the first defendant, Nasir Iliyasu, as the Serikin Hausawa of Jebba in Ilorin, the state capital, on July 2, 2021.”

Justice Mohammad, who admitted that the Jebba’s monarch has the sole authority to install lesser chiefs in his domain, declined to grant the injunction.

But, he ordered that hearing notice be served immediately on the emir and Illyasu.

According to the judge, if the defendants are law abiding, they must stop the activities of installation, pending the determination of the suit filed before him.

He subsequently adjourned proceedings till July 28, 2021.

I want Obiano assasinated , Anambra state Nuked down- Nnamdi Kanu.

The Nigerian government said Nnamdi Kanu has questioned to answer over attacks in the southeast region of the country
The ministry of foreign affairs has informed western diplomats about some of the allegations against the IPOB leader
The federal government criticised Kanu for establishing a militia group known as the Eastern Security Network

FCT, Abuja - The federal government has accused the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, of threatening to kill some governors in the southeast region.

Kanu said Obiano was a dead man walking
The ministry of foreign affairs in the letter dated April 26, 2021, stated that one of the southeast governors who received death threats from the IPOB leader was Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state.

According to the government, Kanu described Obiano as a dead man walking.

The letter made references to some of the threats issued by Kanu thus:

”That is what we want you to do. Obiano (Governor of Anambra State) from today onwards, anywhere you are seen in public you will be attacked …. Obiano, … you are a dead man walking.''

Politics / Anambra Guber: APGA Faction Elects Edozie Njoku As Candidate, Rejects Soludo by MyopicMods: 8:25pm On Jun 29, 2021
Anambra guber: APGA faction elects Edozie Njoku as candidate, rejects Soludo.

A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Tuesday held primary election in Awka, Anambra State, electing the national chairman of its faction of the party, Edozie Njoku as a governorship candidate.

Another faction of the party led by Dr Victor Oye had on 23rd June elected former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the party for the election which holds on November 6.

Njoku, who spoke after his election, said he was the authentic National Chairman of the party, adding that he was elected by consensus to fly the party’s flag in the election.

He said: “APGA has a very big chance. Don’t worry. PDP has got their enormous problem. APC has got the one even bigger than all. They are 15 or 16 in number. PDP is steaming, their pot is boiling.

“The case in APGA is over. We don’t have internal problem. It is now a mandamus compelling INEC to recognize me as the National Chairman. I don’t have a case with Oye.

Speaking on the Jude Okeke-led faction of the party, Njoku said: “Jude Okeke, I never regarded him that much. In this Anambra State, he came up from nowhere on the 15th of June and said that he was the National Chairman; that his faction, Oye’s faction and my faction; I hate calling myself faction but it’s just for you to understand it.

That Oye’s faction and my faction have been dissolved. You can’t do that because you need the two NECs to seat. If he came up on the 15th of June, he needs a 21-day notice and he doesn’t have that. That one is already dead on arrival.

“I learnt that Oye has rushed up to the court to get an order against him. I don’t see that as necessary but if he did, it’s all good. But the thing is that I’m really in a battle because Oye did a purported convention without delegates.

He said Soludo’s emergence as the candidate of the party was encumbered by ligation and pronouncements of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“There was an exparte order stopping us as the authentic group from carrying out our primaries. It was for days and it has expired. They are all lined up in the courts at the moment. We were proactive enough to have organized our primary this morning.

And somehow, the party saw it in their wisdom to have a consensus. It was only one aspirant that refused; they said that I should emerge as the candidate of the party for the elections; that we have a lot of journey to go particularly regarding the aspect of Oye’s candidate for the party having a very big problem.

“So we need to organize ourselves and do what is right for APGA. We thank God that we have been able to conclude our primaries and I have emerged as the candidate of the party,” he said

Politics / Ogoni Leaders Cry For Help As Armed-bearing Fulani Herdsmen Occupy Farms by MyopicMods: 8:22am On Jun 29, 2021
THE Gbo Kabari Ogoni, an elite organisation of Ogoni elders in Rivers State, has raised the alarm over the invasion of Ogoni communities by armed herdsmen and their forceful occupation of farmlands with their livestock.

‘Gbo Kabari Ogoni’, which means Ogoni Elders Forum, in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Monday, titled, ‘Before we are killed again’ by its Chairman, Chief Monday Abueh, and Chairman Secretary, Desmond Nbete.

The Ogoni elders said for several weeks, the armed herdsmen had chased farmers and occupied vast areas of farmlands under effective cultivation across five communities of Khana and Eleme local government areas of the state.

The statement added that after occupying the farmlands, they graze cows on crops in the affected communities without minding, saying the action was a threat to peace and security of the area, as well as undermine the livelihood of the people and their existence.

The statement reads, “For the past weeks, armed Fulani herdsmen have occupied vast areas of farmlands under effective cultivation in the Ogoni communities of Baa Luekun, Kpaa, Seme Luekun and Dae in Khana Local Government Area and Eteo in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The invaders, armed with sophisticated weapons, especially the dreaded AK-47, some of which are strapped to their cows, have driven away farmers from their farmlands, forcibly occupied the farmlands and are grazing their cows on cultivated crops.

“We are particularly concerned by the fact that when resisted or confronted by community leaders and representatives of our people, they have threatened mayhem and even boasted that the powers-that-be and the security agencies are aware of their presence, and would decisively deal with our people if further confronted.”

THE people of Egbede community in the Ogba/Egbrma/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have cried out over the continued invasion of their farmlands by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

They alleged that one of their sons, 26-year-old Nonye Nwa-Omoku, was shot dead by a herdsman in the community last Thursday without any provocation.

An eyewitness, who claimed he escaped death by the whisker, said the incident occurred in the evening, when they saw a herder approaching their direction.

According to him, “We don’t even know what happened; we just saw the Fulani man coming towards us. Next thing, he shot at my direction, I dodged,

“He was now asking, where is that my brother. He followed him and shot him two times. My brother fell. We didn’t do anything to him,” he lamented.

Speaking, a relative of the disease, Confidence Wellington, said the residents, who were mainly farmers, were now afraid of going to their farmlands as a result of the incident.

“Fulani herdsmen have been threatening our people to our farmlands. If my people have farmlands of let me say 200 kilometers, Fulani herdsmen have taken over 107 kilometers,” Wellington said.

The Youth President of Egbeda community, Ifeanyi Ezeocha, condemned the activities of the herdsmen in the area, but urged the people not to take the law into their hands.

The spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, saying the CP had ordered an investigation with a view to bringing anyone found culpable to justice.

Imo youths can no longer be lured into joining the unknown gunmen for financial gains.
Governor Hope Uzodimma has earmarked N4billion to be shared among 15,000 Imo youths so they can start their own businesses.

The Imo state government has commenced an initiative to empower youths in its domain in numerous areas of life
Those expected to benefit from the initiative will be trained in capacity building, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship
The move is part of the government's efforts to ensure that young people in Imo state are not lured into crime.

Owerri - Imo youths from across the 27 local government areas of the state will be given seed capital to go into the various businesses and trade on Saturday, June 16.

This was announced in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Friday, June 25 by the office of the special assistant to the Imo state governor on youth affairs.

According to the statement, the initiate is domiciled at the Imo state ministry of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition.

An empowerment scheme for youths across the state
The statement revealed that 15,000 youths drawn from across the state will be empowered with grants of N250,000 each, which will help them in their chosen area of trade or venture.

Part of the statement read:

“This grant for Imo youths from the state government is coming at a time when the youths in the state are gradually coming together to appreciate the need for hard work and perseverance, which the state government under Senator Hope Uzodimma is noted for.
“They were brought together under the ministry of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition to acquire skills that will ensure that the funds they get, are channeled into positive ventures for economic development in the 27 local government areas of Imo state.”

The statement added:

“It's worthy of note also, that the World Bank also approved Imo to be eligible for the grant, because of the mechanism set up by the state government for such grant, which is in tandem with the set goals and objectives of the World Bank which the state government attained.
“It should also be noted that this grant is a business stimulus package geared towards empowering the youths, as it is not a loan, thereby creating the needed springboard for creativity and enterprise in Imo state.

Politics / Effium: Where Peace Is Scarce In Ebonyi State. by MyopicMods: 5:01pm On Jun 25, 2021
Efforts to return peace to warring Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have proved herculean since January 22, 2021, when bloody crisis erupted in the heterogeneous community. The crisis emanated from leadership tussle at the Effium Motor Park and spread to the community.

The Effium community is inhabited by two sets of people who are clearly different both in origin, language and culture, namely, the Effium people who speak Korri language and the Ezza-Effium people who speak Ezza dialect.

It was gathered that the area known today as Effium was forcefully acquired by Effium people from their Ngbo neighbours after a protracted war aided by warlords from Ezza.

History says the aboriginal Effium people were the first to settle in the area, having migrated from somewhere in the northern part of the country. But not long after settling there, they became victims of incessant attacks from Ngbo people who wanted them to vacate the land. Faced with imminent extermination, the Effium reportedly sent emissaries to Onueke in present-day Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State appealing for assistance to ward off the Ngbo people. It was gathered that the Ezza entered an agreement of joint ownership of the land with the Effium before accepting to help them in the fight against the Ngbo. When the war ended and the Effium won, the Ezza settled in the land and both sides started living together.

Daily Sun gathered that the two peoples were living happily in the community without any form of discrimination or skirmishes until late 1970s when politics of number and grouping entered the community and gave rise to what could be called identity politics. It was, in fact, the struggle for political positions in the community that caused division between them. Since that time till January 2021, the community has been experiencing intermittent clashes along clans for supremacy and dominance.

However, despite frequent unrest in the community, which subsequent administrations in the state battled to settle, Ebonyians and indeed the world were shocked by the level of mindless destruction and killings witnessed in the community since January this year when there were renewed hostilities as the two people went for each other’s jugular.

At the last count, more than 50 persons had been killed, with over 300 buildings razed, while more than 4,000 persons were displaced. The heavily populated community now looks desolate as residents have fled the area for fear of being killed.

The supremacy battle worsened from 2015 immediately Governor David Umahi assumed the mantle of leadership and decided to give the community notable opportunities in his administration. Umahi started by appointing a son of the community from the Effium clan as the caretaker chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, a position they had never held since the creation of the council. The beneficiary, Clement Odah, was later elected and is now in his second term in office as chairman of the council.

The supremacy battle between the two clans further worsened in 2019 when another politician, Chinedu Awo, of Ezza-Effium extraction, clinched the Ohaukwu North State Constituency seat in the House of Assembly, which created a kind of balance of power for the two sides.

Then the power tussle was taken to Effium Motor Park, where the two clans battled for the control of the park. It was at that point that a full-blown war broke out.

Umahi blames loyalists for crisis

Narrating how the crisis started, Governor Umahi blamed Odah, Awo and Commissioner for local government, Samuel Okoronkwo, for the crisis.

The governor said the trio and his Special Assistant on Parks, Emmanuel Igwe, disobeyed his directive on the Effium Motor Park leadership tussle, which led to the crisis.

Governor Umahi, who was livid over the escalation of the crisis, alleged that some powerful individuals from the two warring clans fuelled the crisis by secretly contributing funds for weapons. He, therefore, vowed to expose and prosecute any individual or group of persons found to be buying arms or contributing money to promote the crisis.

“Let’s not forget that this crisis was caused by the council chairman, Clement Odah, and Chinedu Awo, the House of Assembly member. When the problem was still looming, I called two of them, and we sat together and I pleaded with them, but they did not listen to me. In fact, at a time, one of them walked out on me.

“So, let it be known that I did everything to stop the crisis. I set up a committee but the committee failed me. The committee members are culpable. The commissioner for local government did not do his work; the SA on Parks did not do his work. If two of them had done their work, the crisis would not have started because I directed that NURTW at the Effium Park should be dissolved, but they went ahead to set up a caretaker leadership, against my directive. And that was how the crisis started.

“Officially, we have recorded about 25 deaths, recovered 26 arms and about 125 houses, fuel and gas stations burnt. I have written to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to come to our aid’,’ Umahi lamented.

Investigations showed that there is actually humanitarian crisis in the area, and killings have not abated. As a farming community noted for garri and other food stuff, the people have abandoned their farms to safety. The popular Effium market has become a ghost town.

In the wake of renewed skirmishes in the community, the governor had visited the area in company with heads of security agencies in the state, where they were received at Effium Central School by a motley crowd of grief-stricken stakeholders, youths, women and children.

A member of Eze’s cabinet from Effium indigenes of Kori, Chief Vincent Egbe, had told the governor that Ezza-Effium people had always intimidated them in the community because of their number. Egbe alleged that the Ezza-Effium were always looking for an opportunity to attack them with or without provocation, saying the latest attack was unwarranted.

Accentuating the severity of the situation, Egbe said: “Your Excellency, even the civil war was not as bad as what we have witnessed in this community since Saturday. Even as I am talking to you now, they are burning people’s houses in the villages. A lot of people have died. If we should keep the figure together, we are arriving at over 100 persons.”

He appealed to the governor to do everything within the law and his powers to return peace in the community.

On the other hand, Rev. Ogwale Ogwale, who spoke on behalf of Ezza-Effium, accused their Effium counterparts of breaching the age-long agreement between their forefathers.

Ogwale alleged that the Effium had always referred to them as ‘strangers’ in the community, in contravention of the ‘covenant’ of joint ownership, which their forefathers entered at the formation of Effium community after their Ezza forefathers helped to ward off their warring neigbours.

He said: “Your Excellency, the truth is that we don’t have the love and peace we used to have before. Some Effium people always refer to us as strangers in this community and that we should go back to Onueke, where our forefathers came from. As a result, Ezza people started telling them too that they are not even Igbo people. But if I tell you how the story of this place started, you will know that all of us are just being foolish. But I am sure that there was a covenant made by Ezza and the Effium before all of them decided to coexist as one here. If you go around the community today, you will still see some of the covenant trees made by our forefathers.”

He too appealed to the governor to help them restore peace in the community, saying they had no other place to go.

Others speakers blamed political leaders from the community for the crisis and appealed to Umahi to take decisive action against them.

The state government had summoned stakeholders of the community to an emergency security meeting at the Old Government House, Abakaliki, presided over by Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, shortly after the crisis started.

More than 30 stakeholders of the community were arrested at the meeting and detained at the state police command on the orders of the deputy governor over their alleged roles in the crisis. Some of those arrested were chairman of the LGA, Odah, House of Assembly member, Awo, coordinator of Effium Development Centre, Sunday Agbo, and his Effium South counterpart, Eucharia Ogwale.

Others were Special Assistant to the Governor on Vegetable Market, Emmanuel Uzor, and his Parks Development counterpart, Emmanuel Igwe.

Government had also imposed a curfew on the community, as part of measures to restore calm and peace.

After listening patiently to the people in Effium, Umahi condemned the killings and violence that occurred in the community, describing them as unjustifiable, no matter the provocation. He declared his commitment to restoring peace in the community, saying that he would have divided them into two autonomous communities if they had a physical boundary.

Search for peace

It would be misleading for anyone, be it government or natives, to say that the crisis in Effium has ended, as reports of more killings and destruction were still coming from the community last weekend. However, what is undeniable is the fact that leaders of the two warring clans seem very committed to the return of peace in the troubled community.

That notwithstanding, a peace meeting recently convened by the governor between the two clans ended in a deadlock as the warring parties disagreed on modalities for returning peace there.

While the Effium people recommended boundary demarcation to separate them permanently from their Ezza brothers, the Ezza people in the community rejected the proposal, saying they preferred to continue to live together with the Effium people.

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji, who briefed journalists on the outcome of the meeting, said while the Effium asked the state government to create a land boundary between them and their Ezza counterparts, the Ezza-Effium said they preferred to continue to live with Effium people as they had done from time immemorial.

Orji said the governor, in his determination to ensure that permanent peace returned in the warring community as soon as possible, further set up a committee made up of a representative apiece from Effium and Ezza Effium, with two Christian Association of Nigeria representatives to supervise their consultation processes.

According to Orji, members of the committee are Bishop Matthew Nkwoegu as chairman and Rev. (Dr.) Scamb Nwokolo as secretary. The committee was told to submit its report in two weeks.

“The governor, who presided over the meeting, appealed to the stakeholders of Effium and Ezza-Effium to do everything possible to ensure that there is no reprisal attack from any part of the community, noting that government would hold the stakeholders responsible, if there is any further breakdown of law and order in that community.

“The governor directed them to go into a closed-door meeting by themselves with a view to having a common ground in their recommendations and which they did with the supervision of representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria.

“As part of the outcome of their meeting, the stakeholders of Effium requested the state government to carry out land demarcation between them and Ezza Effium people as a last resort in the attainment of a lasting peace in that community, while the stakeholders of Ezza-Effium requested that they be allowed to live together with the people of Effium as they had lived before the misunderstanding that reared its ugly head. They, however, renewed their commitment towards stopping all forms of reprisal attacks forthwith, and were bonded to keep the peace pending the final resolution of the matter,” the commissioner said.

Daily Sun’s learnt that the feud was far from over as a stakeholder from Effium who begged not to be named said his people would not accept any resolution that would lump them together again with the Ezza people. He appealed to government to create a permanent land boundary between them and the Ezza, saying only that could bring lasting peace in the area.

He said: “We, the Effiumites, have agreed that we don’t want to continue to live together with them (the Ezza). We want to live on our own; no more living together with them. That is the only way to end this, if not, this crisis will continue to recur. Remember this is not the first time we are fighting each other.”

In his reaction, another major stakeholder from the Ezza extraction of the community who also asked not to be named said his people were opposed to the suggestion of a boundary demarcation because, according to them, it was against the agreement their forefathers entered with the Effium people.

“We are opposed to boundary demarcation because it was against the spirit of the covenant that brought Ezza and Effium together. Our forefathers agreed that we should live together and that is what we want. There is no problem that cannot be solved; and this one will surely be resolved and we will come together again as brothers and as one people the way we were before,” the community leader enthused.

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the community have reportedly undertaken to be held responsible for any further killings or destruction of property in the community.

They signed the undertaking after their meeting with Deputy Governor Igwe at the Executive Council Chambers, Old Government House.

According to a statement by chief press secretary to the deputy governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, the parties agreed that, “From today, the 10th day of March, 2021, we the undersigned are to be held responsible and liable for prosecution for any further killing of person(s) or destruction of property in the community comprising Effium and Ezza clans.”

The stakeholders also undertook to work and cooperate with security agencies deployed to the area to maintain peace and forestall further loss of lives and damage to property as well as collectively work to bring lasting peace to the community.

Those who signed the accord by the presence of the deputy governor, the Commissioner of police, State Director of Department of State Service and representative of the commander, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Nkwegu, Anglican Bishop of Abakaliki, Rt. Rev. Monday Nkwagu and the state Vice Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Scamb Nwokolo as well as Commissioner for Internal Security, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha.

Phone Thief Nearly Lynched In Nnewi
------------------
The saying that every day is for the thief, but one day is for the owner of the house came true today, Wednesday 23 June 2021, at a Pharmacy Shop near the Head Office of Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club House, along Nnobi Road. A 28 years old man who identified himself as Godwin David (most probably a fake name) was caught red-handed stealing a phone.
According to an eyewitness who didn’t want his name online told ANAEDOONLINE that the accused went to the Pharmacy Shop under the pretext of going for treatment and sighted a phone belonging to a patient who was being treated inside.

He took the smartphone and was about to slip away but was caught by the vigilant eyes of the Sales Girl who was an alarm.
He was stopped by other patients and neighboring shop owners. They searched him and the phone was found on him. They descended on him and begin to beat him.
But for the quick interventions of some good Samaritans, Mr. Godwin David would have been in the land of the dead. He however received some good beatings which left him with a broken skull.

He was handed over to the police.

Politics / We’re Not Part Of Any Biafra Agenda But’ll Negotiate For Ijaw Republic-INC Chair by MyopicMods: 6:33pm On Jun 18, 2021
The Ijaw ethnic nationality has averred that they are not party to any successionist agenda either in part or full but are prepared to legally and peacefully negotiate its exit from the Nigerian State like other aggrieved ethnic nationalities as a distinct Ijaw Republic if urgent steps are not taken to urgently address the perceived imbalance and injustice inherent in the polity.

President of Ijaw National Congress, INC, Professor Benjamin Okaba, dropped the hint during a press conference in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital on Friday.

Okaba, who titled the text of the press conference, ‘Don’t Take Our Silence for Granted’ said, “The Ijaw nation, conscious of our desire to live in a country where our rights to live peacefully and apply our God endowed talents and resources for our collective improvement and wellbeing, no longer feel safe to be part of a country where inequality, inequity and nepotism and impunity have become defining principles of governance.”

According to Okaba, if the current unrestrained orgy of violence unleashed on the country, is not urgently and squarely checked by those with responsibility to do so, the end of Nigeria as a united nation might just be irredeemable.

He pointed out that the major reason for this situation is the heightened injustice and marginalisation of Nigerians, particularly of the minorities including the Ijaw ethnic nationality, a clear evidence he noted is the unacceptable story of the Federal Government spending over 15 years in constructing a yet to be completed major East-West Road that ferries petroleum products across the country.

His words: “The Ijaws have become reprehensive and afraid of being part of an unworkable union. Having endured the unsavory treatments and crude exploitations over the years, and the noted resolve of the present-day leaders to continue their stranglehold on the Ijaw people through mor obnoxious laws (the water resources bill sponsored by the Buhari administration) our faith in the Nigerian union has been grossly eroded.

“Rather than continue to sacrifice and carry the burdens of an unappreciative Nigeria nation, we wish to state without equivocation our resolve for self determination, we are prepared to legally and peacefully negotiate our exit like other aggrieved ethnic nationalities but also as a distinct Ijaw Republic with ethno linguistic, cultural affinity and geographic contiguity and not in part or full of any other secessionist agenda.

“This address also serves as an advance notice to all Ijaw people, our neighbours, particularly in the Niger Delta region, others oppressed and deprived and the Nigerian State, preparatory to the convocation of an all Ijaw summit that will ultimately decide on the way forward in very specific terms.

“Our current resolve for self-determination and self-actualization can only be reversed if urgent steps are taken by the powers that be to urgently and sincerely address the minimum conditions precedent to guarantee the continues commitment of the Ijaws to the Nigerian project. These include

“The restoration of true federalism under a new constitution enacted by the people wherein a lean exclusive legislative list is prescribed for the federal tier of government. The restoration of Ijaw territory as non balkanized administrative and political federating unit(s) for reassurance of the Ijaw development pursuit.

“The repeal of all obnoxious and discriminatory laws and policies that have continuously undermine our fundamental human and environmental rights as indigenous people of Nigeria. The Ijaw land and the Niger-Delta region is the only place in the entire world where oil and gas is produced but have remained in impoverishe neglected and underdeveloped. Our retreat from militancy to meaningful and constructive engagement should not be undermined for cowardice.”
