Politics / Biafra: Why I Fought For Ngwaland Liberation- Osisikanwu by MyopicMods: 6:40pm On May 13, 2022
The Untold Story of Osisikankwu, The Most Notorious And Dreaded Kidnap Kingpin in Ngwaland, Abia state.

There are kidnappers and there are kidnappers but the story of Obiọma Nwankwo, popularly known as Osisikankwu will always remain indelible in the history of kidnapping in Nigeria. His was a story of an obdurate fellow who recruited more than 3000 men into the nefarious job of kidnapping that terrorised the whole of Abia State especially Aba and environs, even down to Obigbo in Rivers State. If you had lived in Aba circa 2007- 2010, you would understand definitely what I am saying. It got so terrible that at a point that the whole of Aba was sacked as the kidnappings got intensified. People packed their belongings and relocated to their villages, many big cats in Aba and environs left Ngwaland, Abia State government's officials were not spared. Hundreds were abducted, tortured, killed and made to cough out millions to free themselves from the shackles of captivity. Aba and surrounding Ngwa villages almost became a ghost area as people left in their thousands to escape being the next bird of sacrifice. In my area then at the periphery of Aba, just near the then new timber market at Uratta, the wives of two fat cows in the area were kidnapped.

They were later released after their husbands had paid the agreed ransome. They equally came for the MD of Calif Hospital in my area but the renowned surgeon escaped and fled Aba. It was not a nice experience. There were also ugly stories of rape and murder. My mother and four sisters had to relocate to the village for the time being to avoid being ravaged by those monsters. There were numerous gun battles in broad daylight. Many people lost their lives.

Osisikankwu is from Ogwe area of Ukwa West LGA of Abia State. He succeeded in organising a formidable kidnap gang of about 3000 mean men solely for abduction and killing. They mainly target the affluent class, expatriates and highly placed government officials of Abia State. The Government of Abia State then under the leadership of Dr Theodore Ahamefula Orji was handicapped. Nothing could be done as hordes of Aba residents were either killed by the rampaging Aba kidnap gang.

1. Three British Nationals and a Columbian contract staff of NetcoDietmann working at Shell's Power Plant in Afam VI, Oyigbo LGA of Rivers State were kidnapped by gunmen on January, 12. They barricaded their vehicle on their way back to Oyigbo at Owaza junction in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State. They were whisked away after shooting to death a mobile police officer escorting them. The white men were identified as John Bennet, Kelvin Gray and Martin Phillip, all Britons with Fabian Sanchez as the only Columbian. NetcoDietmann and Rivers State government paid a huge ransome before they were freed.

2. In April and May of 2010, two German and three Chnese nationals together with Nine Nigerians working for Nigerian Steel Company, Aba, were kidnapped by Osisikankwu's gang. They were later released after the payment of millions of naira.

3. On July 10, one Mrs Victoria Ori, the wife of an rich bull from Ohafia was abducted by a 4-member gang who demanded for a whooping sum of ₦20 million naira. Mrs Ori was released after a reasonable amount was paid.
Just a day after the kidnap of Mrs Ori, three Journalists, together with their driver, travelling through Aba after a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State were whisked away at Umuafuoka junction near Ukpakiri, Obingwa LGA of Abia State by Osisikankwu's men. The kidnapped Journalists include: Wahab Oba, Lagos State Chairman of NUJ, Adolphus Okonkwo, secretary of Zone G of the NUJ, Slyvester Okereke, acting secretary, Lagos, NUJ, Sola Oyeyipo, a Lagos-based journalist and their driver. A reliable source disclosed to Saharareporters that ₦30 million was paid before the men were released from the kidnapper's lair.

5. On Tuesday, August 24, Osisikankwu's gang led by a young thug called 'Okwute' STONE robbed five commercial banks in the Osisioma area of Aba, Killing all policemen and security on guard. The affected banks were closed down till date.

6. On Sunday, September 7, masked gunmen numbering about 15 stormed the 5000 capacity of Jerusalem for All Nations Church at Umuneke Community and bundled away the church's senior pastor, fondly called Christ Junior by his sheeples. A politician, identified as Lambert Nmecha was killed during the operation.

7. On Saturday, September 11, an Indian national working with an electronic company in Aba was killed by a five-man kidnap thugs after he intransigently refused to follow the men in their car. The thugs fled the scene afterwards.

8. A gynaecologist and proprietor of Victory Christian Hospital at Obohia Road, Aba, Dr Stanley Uche was picked up by those monsters on September 17 as he travelled down to Imo State for a family burial with his wife. The wife was later released to go and organise a ₦30 million ransom. She later brought the money only to be given the lidless body of her husband. Aba women's cries rose to high heavens. I believe God heard their wailings and ululation. Dr Uche's hospital was one of the best for child delivery in Aba but he was unfortunately killed by Osisikankwu's men. 9. On Saturday, September 25, two mobile policemen on patrol in their new Hilux were killed in an ambush at Umuafor Ukwu, Obingwa lga of Abia State. After that incident, Abia State Police Command lamented that it has lost 27 of its members to Osisikankwu's gang. As if that was not enough, Osisikankwu and his men struck again on Monday, 27th September at Abayi International School, Osisioma, Aba, kidnapping 15 pupils of the school. This was the height of it all, the zenith of all their atrocities. The kidnappers, patrolling in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry intercepted Abayi International school's van and diverted it to an unknown destination. The school children were later released unscathed but the story has gone viral, even capturing the attention of International media houses who expressed disgust at the kidnap crisis engulfing Aba. Consequently, he was declared wanted by the Nigeria Army and police.

In what appeared to be an inadvertent confessional statement recorded by Chidi Nkwopara, of Vanguard Newspapers, the correspondent was tricked into granting an unsolicited interview by Osisikankwu himself. Mr Nkwopara was deluded into coming to Aba to collect money for advert placement on Vanguard. According to Mr Nkwopara, he declined on grounds that Aba was a no-go area but the caller persuaded him to come to a popular place at Osisioma to belie his fears. Mr Nkwopara however, agreed and came down to Aba only to meet the dreaded and most wanted militant leader and kidnapper, Osisikankwu. Since he had been declared wanted, Osisikankwu wanted to use the medium to ventilate himself on why he decided to pick up arms and resort to theft and kidnap.

In the interview which lasted for 30 minutes, Osisikankwu admitted to be the mastermind behind the kerfuffle engulfing Abia State as a whole. He said he was on mission to liberate Ngwaland, the largest tribe in Abia State. According to him, Ngwaland has been marginalised despite harbouring the commercial and industrial city of Aba and being the oil producing enclave of Abia State.

Since the creation of Abia State, other smaller tribes in the state such as the Igberre, Abriba, Ohafia, Umuahia, Item, Aro etc, have being advantaged. Only Ukwa-Ngwa, the largest tribe in the state with nine local governments were neglected, relegated to the background. He complained about the grim and ramshackle roads in Aba, the corruption of the T. A Orji kedu Government and the ballooning cases of unemployment among Ukwa-Ngwa youths. He was happy the world then knew about their activities and was willing to surrender and be granted amnesty and rehabilitation only if the Abia State government was willing to help them.

The Igbo people will invariably say that one does not stay in his home and grow hunchback or squash his scrotum. Also, an elder will not sit down silent while the goat suffers the pains of parturition while tethered to a stake. Home is where comfort lies and when an enemy comes to disrupt the peace of a home, such enemy must be chased away. Following the abduction of Aba School Children which raised dust globally, the Federal Government under the leadership of newly sworn-in Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had to intervene. A troop of Joint Military Task Force was deployed to Abia State on a mission to crack down on the kidnappers.

The Military Task Force worked hard until December 12, when they successfully caught and killed the small shit that ruins the anus: OSISIKANKWU! According to Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, an Army Spokesman then, the notorious criminal was killed at Ugwuati Evil Forest in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, after a fierce gun duel between the Joint Military Task Force and Osisikankwu's gang. It was a war of charms, of juju and of the paranormal. The soldiers after emerging victorious displayed the body of the kidnap kingpin in an open van round Aba to the ecstasy and jubilation of Aba residents. How Art the mighty fallen.

Osisikankwu's girlfriend, Ogochi was also arrested during the operation. Ogochi who was reportedly three months pregnant pointed out the exact locations where Osisikankwu's lair was. Consequent upon the revelation, a mop of operation was carried out the JTF in the Ugwuati Evil Forest. The operation led to the recovery of the following: 48 empty magazine of AK 47; 3,848 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition; 538 rounds of 7.62 mm Nato; 41 expended cases of 7.62mm special ammunition; some quantity of dynamite and 3 RPG prima. In a swift reaction, the Abia State Government, under the Theodore Orji kedu administration, described the killing of Osisikankwu as the 'triumph of light over darkness' and commended the JTF for their dogged fight against the notorious

We are Happy for your actions against Igbos: Gov Masari to Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his Katsina State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has enjoined Nigerians, irrespective of political leanings, to work cohesively together for the development of the country.

The governors, who met at the Government House, Katsina, Katsina State on Tuesday, maintained that the sustenance of the unity in diversity of Nigeria over the years has played a vital role in the growth and development of the country.

Wike, who is also a Presidential aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was in Katsina State to meet with the party’s leaders and delegates ahead of the PDP national convention this month. And as a mark of respect, he also deemed it proper to personally visit Governor Masari, to formally notify him of his presidential ambition.

“I am formally informing you that I am making myself available to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I am here today to talk to the delegates who will make it possible on the 28th and 29th of this month, which is our national convention.”

“We cannot say because you don’t belong to our party and therefore we must not give you that respect, no, is not allowed. By our tradition, the party cannot divide us. Party is a vehicle that conveys you to the point of destination.”

Governor Wike insisted that irrespective of political leanings, politicians must cultivate the virtue of prioritizing national unity above their political interests at all times.

In his response, the Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari said it was gratifying that the Governor of Rivers State is aspiring to be the next president of Nigeria. According to him, that shows that the country is becoming one united nation.

“I believe you have contributed in your own way immensely to the development of the political process in Nigeria. Really, we thank God that people like you come from that part of the country. It shows confidence in the oneness of Nigeria and the political process.

He explained that he will remain eternally grateful to the people of Rivers State for the immense support given to him while he was the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“During my days as Speaker of the House of Representatives, if there is anyone State that you can count 100 per cent support, it was Rivers State and we remain friendly up till this moment. So anybody coming from Rivers State to wherever I am, he is welcome into my personal house or official residence.”

The Katsina State governor also commended Governor Wike for effectively curtailing the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Rivers State.

He observed that if Governor Wike had not acted decisively, the nation would have been in a more precarious situation.

“I know what you did as a committed Nigerian. If you had allowed the situation to penetrate Rivers, only God knows where the situation would have been today.”

Governor Masari used the occasion to condemn the advocates of interim government in the country. According to him, “anybody calling for an interim government is simply calling for a coup against the Constitution.”

The Katsina State governor implored politicians to play politics in such a way that the nation and the political process will survive because without the political process surviving, nobody will survive.

“So, I think it is important that we play according to the rules that we set for ourselves. And we should not do anything that should injure or endanger the process because it can consume all of us.”

Governor Wike, also visited Hajia Aya Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who was also an ex-Governor of Katsina.

along the Udorji Road, beside St. Mary’s Church, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo LGA.

The source further revealed that the gunmen first killed Nnajiofor right in their house, after which they blindfolded and abducted the younger brother, whom they also eventually killed close to Utuh Junction and dumped his corpse at the centre of the road.

A trending video from the scenes of the incident, showed the corpse lying lonely at the centre of the deserted expressway, without a vehicle or pedestrian coming or going through the road.

Fired bullets were also seen close to the corpse, lying in a pool of blood, with bullet wounds on his chest and other parts of the body.

Efforts to get the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, proved abortive, as he was yet to respond to his message, at the time of filing this report.

The incident is happening less than four days after a similar attack was carried out at a beer parlour in Osumenyi, where five persons were killed.

Politics / Govs Of Abia And Enugu Shuns Peter Obi, Endorse Wike For President by MyopicMods: 8:31am On Apr 24, 2022
Govs of Abia and Enugu Shuns Peter Obi, Endorse Wike for President.

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has appealed to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to consider the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for his presidential bid.

Governor Ikpeazu described the Rivers Governor as the best candidate the PDP can queue behind in 2023.

He stated this on Tuesday during a meeting between Wike and the National Working Committee of the party.

According to Governor Ikpeazu, the two main requirements for the PDP to wrestle power from the ruling APC in 2023 are competence and acceptability.

He opined that Governor Wike has met those requirements and has also demonstrated loyalty to the party and should be allowed to fly the party’s flag.

Governor Wike, who was also accompanied by the former Governor of Gombe State, Hassan Dankwambo, asked the party not to be sentimental in their candidate selection process.

He said the party should consider who can win the elections for the PDP, adding that he has the capacity and knows the strategy of the ruling party, APC.

He noted that the 2023 elections are the only opportunity for the party to bounce back and that he will bridge the disconnect between the party and the Government if allowed to fly the PDP flag and eventually win the elections

He says he’s against consensus candidacy and wants the delegates to make their choice.

He also advised the party against ignoring court orders should they come in the build-up to the elections.

The PDP’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, in his remarks, said all 17 presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP will do better than President Muhammadu Buhari.

He assured the aspirant that the candidate selection process will be credible, free from manipulations.

Politics / Displaced Yoruba In Akwa Ibom Crisis Beg Govt, Police For Help by MyopicMods: 5:50pm On Apr 23, 2022
Residents of Ilaje extraction displaced by the communal crisis between them and the Ibeno indigenes in the Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have appealed to the state government to come to their aid.

They said they lost everything to the crisis.

Five people were said to have lost their lives, many injured and others still missing while property worth millions of naira were destroyed in the crisis.

Speaking with our correspondent in their camp in the Eket Local Government, the head of the Yoruba community in Ibeno, Chief J. Olala, said there was a minor disagreement with their hosts.

“We have been in this camp for more than two days. As you can see, everything was lost. Even I came out with nothing left, just like displaced persons. Our property and source of livelihood were destroyed,” Olala lamented.

He added, “I can’t tell personally the cause of the crisis. That night, I slept late and around midnight, the village head of Ibeno community called me to say that there was a problem on Ojo Street. I told him it’s too late to come out that night. He urged me to come out, but I insisted that I wasn’t going there.

“Later, some boys came to my house; I saw them talking and shouting. I switched off my light so they wouldn’t know I was around, and then they started destroying my house and I ran away through the back door with my children and wife. We entered our neighbours house around 2am. The incident subsided a little but after some minutes, it resumed so I ran out.

“Throughout the night, I communicated with the chief and he said I should come out and I said I cannot until the following morning. Even in the morning, it continued. One of my sons called to tell me that I should come out. When I came out, he ran to the pole. I tried to talk to them but because of the way they were talking to me, I ran to the church. I cannot really tell you what really happened.

“We need the government to assist us because as of now, many of our people are still indoors. Some are still hiding somewhere. The government should help us. We need the government’s intervention. We need police assistance

The youth leader of the Yoruba community, Mr Meduoye Beneth, said he escaped miraculously from the hands of the hoodlums after sustaining a head cut.

Beneth explained that the crisis was triggered by a cult clash among some youths.

Beneth added, “We don’t know the cause of this crisis. I think it’s between some cult groups and others. I cannot really tell what caused the disagreement. But what I know is that while I was in my house with my family, I heard a big bang on the door at exactly 1:30am. I wondered what was going on. I cautioned my wife and children not to move. I covered them with a blanket to prevent the stones thrown from affecting us.’’

“They attacked only Yoruba because they insinuated that the Yoruba must leave and cannot stay. They said if they don’t go in peace, they would go by force. I think it is a planned work. This crisis with cultists has been happening but not to the extent of burning houses.”

Meet Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, first black female Rector of the University of Aberdeen, Scotland

Martina founded the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Scotland’s only dedicated asthma charity.

Almost every day, we get to hear of Nigerians achieving great heights in different parts of the world. Whether it is in the areas of entertainment, sports, education, inventions, or politics, Nigerians continue to do the country and indeed the continent proud.

One such individual is Martina Chukwuma-Ezike the first woman of colour to be elected Rector of the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, an ancient position that dates back to the foundation of the University in 1495 and is voted by the students.

With an impeccable track record and a heart for public service and philanthropy, Martina Chukwuma-Ezike was chosen to steer the university that has a community of more than 130 nationalities, toward excellence.

Educational background

Martina Chukwuma-Ezike was born in Nigeria in 1981, to Nigerian parents from Eastern Nigeria. Before moving to Scotland, the United Kingdom at 27 years old for a Master’s program, she had her foundational education in Nigeria.

Martina did her diploma first at the University of Calabar, Cross River State in Social Works from 1999 to 2001. After finishing her diploma, she started her degree in Sociology in 2002 where she graduated in 2005 with a B.Sc.

After a brief working period in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, she moved to the United Kingdom where she attained an MBA from the University of Aberdeen.

Career and Corporate experience
Before moving to the United Kingdom, she worked with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in Nigeria. However, she began her career as a social worker in 1999 the same year she started her diploma. She was responsible for providing mental health services to individuals with high needs.

Her job description allowed her to occupy several management positions where she gained expertise in Budget & Planning, Sales and Marketing.

She also worked in different sectors, ranging from oil & gas, healthcare, social care and automobile, refusing to limit herself to one industry. In the course of her work, she served as an intermediary between hospitals and government on the project “no one left behind”.

While working on the project which received funding from the Federal Government, it was part of her duty to ensure that newly discharged clients had access to vocational training to help them learn vital skills and reintegrate into society.

The funding also covered the cost of purchasing equipment to ensure clients pursuing careers in joinery, tailoring, hair & beauty etc., had access to the needed equipment and ongoing support.

The big leap to charity

Moving to the UK after being diagnosed with asthma made her struggle harder with the condition and surviving it became even more important. She had several asthma attacks and was diagnosed with Brittle asthma, a severe case of asthma which made it very difficult for her to study.

In the search for help and a solution, she organized a meeting with Neil Churchill, the chief executive of Charity Asthma UK at the time, and insisted a service was desperately needed up in Aberdeen.

In 2009, Martina founded the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Scotland’s only dedicated asthma charity. The charity set up the first Asthma Support Centre in the UK in order to provide support services for people with asthma and allergies in the northeast of Scotland.

The foundation was granted charity status on November 17, 2011, and has helped people living with asthma across the country to manage their symptoms.

Becoming the first person of colour to become a Rector of the University of Aberdeen
After graduating, Martina developed her university link into mentoring, career advice and providing volunteering opportunities for young people – including medical students who were working directly with asthmatic people.

On 19th November 2021, she was elected by students as the university Rector. On March 28th she became the first black Rector of the University of Aberdeen, an ancient position that dates back to the foundation of the University in 1495 and is determined by the voting of students.

This is a position that has previously been occupied by several nobles names that have made strong impacts in their fields. Former Rectors of the University of Aberdeen include Sir Winston Churchill, Philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, and television presenter, Clarissa Dickson Wright.

Other notable works

Martina co-developed the Grampian Respiratory Improvement Project for NHSG and is a sitting member of the Grampian Respiratory Improvement Group. She is a member of the Cross-Party Group on Lung Health at the Scottish Parliament and a member of the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations where she joins in mentoring and supporting newly appointed Chief Executive Officers.

She is a supporter of women in business and an active mentor of business owners across the UK. She is also a fellow of The Royal Society for Arts, Manufacturing, and Commerce, received based on the tremendous work she did to support the 5.4 million people living with asthma across the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Personal life

She is married to Uchenna Chukwuma-Ezike, a chemist and a chartered scientist who hails from Anambra State, Nigeria.

Politics / Wike Submits Presidential Form, PDP Promises Level Playing Field by MyopicMods: 7:25am On Apr 16, 2022
The Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has submitted his filled and completed presidential nomination form.

Wike’s form was submitted to the National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Umar Bature by Senator Sulieman Nazif at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

Speaking on behalf the delegation that submitted the form, Senator George Sekibo assured Nigerians that if Wike was elected president of Nigeria, he would expeditiously tackle the protracted insecurity, economic and infrastructural challenges facing the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by Kelvin Ebiri, Special Assistant in Media to the Rivers State Governor.

Senator Sekibo, who represents Rivers East senatorial district in the National Assembly, said since assumption of office in 2015, Governor Wike has been able to transform the infrastructural landscape of Rivers state.

The statement reads,“For us from Rivers State, we are proud to say that Governor Nyesom Wike has served diligently, has served very well.

“We are sure he will bring that same service and extend it to this country. Just as he has eliminated issue of security in Rivers state, issue of security in Nigeria will be eliminated. Just as he has brought infrastructural revolution in Rivers, bad roads will be eliminated in Nigeria.”

Sekibo, who described the Wike as a bridge builder, explained that he was resolute about his presidential ambition and had been travelling to various states of the federation to consult with critical stakeholders.
