Religion / Anglican Church Withdraws Sylvester Eboh's License As A Priest by MyopicMods: 11:10pm On Mar 09, 2022
Diocese On The Niger Dismisses Priest, Withdrawals His License As Anglican Priest

FROM: THE BISHOP.

9th March, 2022

Mr. Sylvester Lumenkristi Eboh

St. Mark’s Church, Umelum

Niger West

WITHDRAWAL OF ORDINATION LICENCE AND DISMISSAL AS AN ANGLICAN PRIEST
Recall that on 20th December, 2021, you were suspended indefinitely as the priest in charge of Christ Church Annex and God in Action Adoration Prayer Ministry,

Umudioka for grievous acts of disobedience and stubbornness unbecoming of a priest. You were given some time to retrace your steps, failure of which we will have no other choice than to withdraw your licence as a priest.

Sadly, instead of taking necessary actions to retrace your steps, you sued the  Diocese and the Bishop in a court of law contrary to section 83 of the Church of Nigeria Constitution and Canons 2020. It was in the law suit you instituted against us that we found that-you registered the God in Action Adoration Ministry in the Corporate Affairs Commission as a personal ministry contrary to your ordination vows and in contravention of the Constitution of the Church.

Furthermore, there is a pending petition and complaint against you from Arnaka Ezeno, Esq, the Principal Partner ‘The Law Zoomers’ firm, bordering on immoral behaviour. The petitioner alleged that you impregnated one Ozioma Onubuogu. There is another petition and complaint against you by Obika Chukwuebuka —FFancis who claimed that you owe him the sum of N368, 130.00 from the tiles he —supplied for the building of the parsonage. You have not cleared the air on this matter. There is yet another complaint against you by Ekene Okeke •who claimed that you owe him the sum of from the electrical materials he supplied for the building of the parsonage. You have not also cleared the air on this matter. There is also the petition from High Chief Obi Anoliefo of Ogidi, who claimed that you are building on his land illegally.

Besides, you were accused to be a false prophet and a shaman who uses occultic means to perform miracles. A panel was appointed to investigate your activities. You were duly informed and invited to defend yourself from the allegations brought against you by many faithful. Unfortunately, you ignored the panel and never appeared. After observing various evidences and hearing from many witnesses, the  panel made their recommendation to the Bishop. The recommendation is reproduced as follows:

Our Recommendations
We recommend that his licence as clerical worker of this Diocese on the Niger be revoked forthwith.

The Bishop on the Niger no matter how hard it may look like is advised to make a public Disclaimer about Sylvester Eboh.

In view of the foregoing and the fact that you remained unrepentant, instead you are using the social media to misinform people and spread lies to scandalise the Diocese and the Bishop. This is recklessness to the highest order.

We hereby revoke your ordination licence and dismiss you as a priest of the Diocese on the Niger. We have also withdrawn your preferment. You should forthwith desist from acting, parading or claiming to be a serving, retired or resigned priest of the Diocese on the Niger. May the Lord have mercy on you. Amen.

Politics / Scores Injured, Shops Burnt As Yoruba, Hausa Traders Clash In Ogun by MyopicMods: 12:08pm On Mar 09, 2022
Scores injured, shops burnt as Yoruba, Hausa traders clash in Ogun

SCORES of people were reportedly injured on Monday evening when Yoruba traders and Hausa settlers engaged in a bloody clash at the popular Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Our correspondent gathered that the clash started on Monday evening and snowballed into a full blown crisis by Tuesday morning, leading to the burning down of several shops while many people were reportedly injured.

A source said the clash was ignited by a fight between a Yoruba man and an Hausa man.

According to the source who is a trader in the market, the Hausa man was seriously injured and presumed dead, a situation that provoked the Hausa settlers who allegedly went on the rampage, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

The trader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the crisis took a turn for the worse when the Seriki Hausa (head of Hausa settlers) who was called to intervene in the crisis was injured.

She said, “The Seriki Hausa who was called upon to settle the issue was injured and this further worsened the crisis.

“The man is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He however said the situation had been brought under control.

Hausa, Yoruba must be remorseful after Sasa market tragic incident – Taliban of Sasa, Alhaji Yaro
Oyeyemi said no life was lost contrary to the report that an Hausa man was killed, adding that, the police had arrested some persons in connection to the crisis.

He said, “I am aware of the clash, but the situation has been brought under control and we have made some arrests. I don’t want to disclose the number of persons we have arrested, but we have made some arrests.

“But, contrary to what people are insinuating, no life was lost, but people were injured while shops were also burnt and property destroyed.

“We are still investigating the clash. The crisis is as a result of a rumour because there was a clash between a Hausa man and a Yoruba man. I think the Hausa man was injured and some people went to town with the rumour that the injured man died and that was what led to the whole thing and the issue was escalated.”

Foreign Affairs / Evacuate Civilians, My Mission In Ukraine Will Be Completed-Putin To Macron by MyopicMods: 6:30pm On Mar 03, 2022
Focus on evacuating civilians because my mission in Ukraine will eventually be completed, Putin tells Macron

Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with French president Emmanuel Macron today

The tasks of Russia's 'special military operation' in Ukraine would be fulfilled in any case, Putin reportedly told Macron.

The Russian president also urged his French counterpart to join efforts to ensure the safe evacuation of foreign citizens from Ukraine.

Putin reportedly explained that it was about
demilitarisation and the neutral status of Ukraine, so that a threat to Russia would never come from its territory.

He said attempts to gain time by delaying negotiations would only lead to the emergence of new demands on Ukraine.

Russia invaded the European nation last week, triggering huge waves of economic sanctions from the international community.

Putin complains about Ukraine's move to join NATO, a military alliance to which Russia doesn't belong. But critics accuse the Russian leader of trying to revive the former USSR of which Ukraine used to be part.

Politics / Reps Ask IGP, Army Chief To Raid Kidnappers’ Den In Anambra by MyopicMods: 4:10pm On Mar 03, 2022
The House of Representatives has asked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Akali and the Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, to deploy personnel to raid kidnappers’ hideouts in Anambra State.

It also asked the Chief of Air Staff, Isiaka Amao, to provide aerial support for the operation.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Roland Igbakpa (PDP, Delta) on Wednesday during plenary.

Moving the motion, Mr Igbakpa informed his colleagues of the abduction of Steady Idisi and Emmanuel Ifie, by men suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

He stated that the two victims were reported to have been kidnapped in Anambra State and taken to Orsumoghu forest.

Mr Igbakpa added that Mr Idisi, who is from Ovo, Ehtiope East LGA of Delta State, was kidnapped on February 20 while travelling to Port Harcourt from Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He said Mr Idisi and his friend were abducted by suspected IPOB militants at Orsumoghu in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State.

Mr Igbakpa also disclosed that Gab Ofoma, a businessman from Nnewi in Anambra State, was killed on the same highway on the same day.

Narrating an account of an escapee from the den, Mr Igbakpa said there are over 100 kidnapped victims in the hideout.

“There is electricity, generators, SUV vehicles, and is like a City of its own, where evil reigns. By the same account, over 100 persons are held captive in that camp and are killed intermittently at the pleasure of the bandits,” he said.

He said, “a properly coordinated and concerted inter-agency intelligence-driven efforts by the police, army and other security agencies in the form of a Joint operation to continually raid the entire area, as was done in the past, is critical at this point to address this menace in order to dislodge the bandits and release their victims.”

Contributing to the motion, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta), blamed the APC-led government for the insecurity in the country.

“Since the APC-led government came into power, there has been an increase in brutalising of Nigerians in making sure that our people who should be in the farm to produce food do not have the opportunity to do that,” he said.

The debate dovetailed to partisan matter, as the Majority Leader, Ado Doguwa (APC, Kano), attacked the main opposition party, PDP.
.
“I want to remind the minority leader that we are running a federal democracy. We have the federating units. Of course, every federating unit has its constitutional responsibility. But I want to believe even the state governors in the south, do have the same responsibility to protect the lives and property of the people they govern. Whether you control the police or not, I assume the governors in the south are the chief security officers of their respective states. What are your governors doing?”

Consequently, the House resolved that the Committees on Army, Police and Air Force ensure compliance and report to the House in two weeks.

Politics / Siege On South-East: Gunmen Now Operate Openly by MyopicMods: 12:42pm On Mar 02, 2022
In the last couple of weeks, life has once again become hell for residents of the South-East region following upsurge of attacks, killings and kidnappings by gunmen.

The resurgence was after a recede in November and December last year, which raised hope of the people of the region that the evil activities of unknown gunmen had stopped. They had a peaceful Christmas celebration.

But their hope was dashed recently, when the dreaded gunmen returned with fiercer attacks and killings. No part of the region is free of the attacks. But Ihiala axis in Anambra State, which shares border with Orlu area in Imo State, can unarguably be said to be the theatre of the present crisis. Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba South Council areas, unfortunately, have in the last few days, also come under serious attack by these hoodlums. In the last few weeks, there had been increased attacks and killings in the Aguata/Orumba areas, including the killing of 88-year-old retired professor.

In Enugu and other states in the region, attacks have also been on the rise. Just last week, about five persons were killed while participating in Enugu State Local Government election, an action that prompted Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to summon a meeting of stakeholders in the area where the killing happened.

And perhaps, acting on security intelligence, banned the operations of tricycles, okada and tipper lorries in parts of the council. Ebonyi, Abia and Imo states are also experiencing constant attacks and killings. Simply put, no state in the region is presently safe and the residents now live in constant fear.

Many clashes had been recorded between the gunmen and security operatives who claimed the gunmen were members of the IPOB and their security wing, ESN operatives. IPOB has, however, been denying any involvement in the killings in the region, and in turn, accusing security operatives of launching attacks to suppress their agitation for Biafra. They also accused security agencies of importing mercenaries to Igbo land to maim, kill and kidnap people to justify labelling them as terrorists. While the blame game goes on, the recent attacks had left many casualties on both sides, including a lot of civilians, who were killed or kidnapped by the gunmen or cut down by bullets from security operatives in the process of crossfire.

In the face of the frustrating situation, the big question remains: What is the way out? Have governments, both federal and state, done enough to contain this or have they given up? With huge potentials available to the government, why is it difficult to contain and clear this ugly situation once and for all?

The frightening and scary experience below, shared in the social media by a man who braved the ‘lion’s den’ to save his brother from the hand of hoodlums who claimed to be IPOB members, narrates clearly the grave situation of things in the South-East region. Particularly and of great concern presently is the Lilu-Orsumoghu-Azia axis of Ihiala Council Area of Anambra State which has become very dangerous of recent, up to Orlu axis in Imo State.

Lilu, Mbosi, Azia, Orsumoghu, Isseke residents forced to pay and get permission to ceremonies

According to the man’s account: “We are in serious trouble; at about 2pm on January 26, 2022, I got a call from my cousin who came back from Switzerland for a burial at Umuike Ukpor (Ukpor is in Nnewi South Council, Anambra State). He told me that he was under the captivity of IPOB guys at Lilu. The IPOB guys told me to come with N200,000 and bail my brother and his SUV if I still want him alive. They warned me not to involve police or else they will kill my brother.

“Initially, I thought it was a prank but when the call came again, I knew it was a serious matter.

“I called my elder sister and she warned me not to try it. I called my boss in the office and told him what was happening and he advised me not to go. I also sought the opinion of my other friend who is a DSS guy, he asked me not to go. But my instinct continued telling me to go and save Okey. I took my old Sienna bus and withdrew N250k and moved.

“As soon as I joined the St. Joseph/Onuselogu road, one particular bike man started following me from Awka Etiti section. (He was the emissary). Surprisingly, the person asked me whether I was the person with the Sienna and I answered in the affirmative. He then asked me to stop at Hajosty Petroleum at Ukpor which I did. I pretended that I wanted to buy fuel but the pump attendant told me that one man was calling me on the other side of the road.

“I walked to the other side and the man showed me my phone number and asked me whether I was the owner which I accepted. He then told me to buy him two bottles of Hero beer at a shop there which I did. I also took my own two bottles of Heineken beer.

“He then told me that my brother was in safe hands only that MNK (Mazi Nnamdi Kanu), Onye Ndu is in prison and there is no money to operate. That is why they deployed a way of raising money by kidnapping. I told him that I understood him perfectly well. I waited for further instructions. He then told me to remove everything that bears Nigeria I have on me and keep them in my vehicle and I obliged.

“He asked me to join him on his bike and we zoomed off from that Hajosty Petroleum Ukpor. The guy was on a neck-breaking speed until he got to Lilu junction, Orsumoghu. There is also a filling station there but I cannot remember the name now. He stopped and went to the filling station to greet some fierce-looking men. All of them were carrying AK 47 automatic rifles with cache of ammunitions.

“He asked me to pick a green leaf and be waving it across my head as he rode into Lilu. They created a road in the bush where one could drive through but the road was seriously manned by IPOB guys. We got to a point where they used a trip of chippings to block the tarred road and they dug a deep gully after the chippings to prevent soldiers from entering with armoured tanks into Lilu. That was when I knew that I was in trouble.

“We rode for about three kilometers without seeing any life there except IPOB guys who were armed with various types of arms and dangerous weapons. My visa was the green leaf which identified me as a peaceful man.

“When we got to their camp, it was a gory sight. Everywhere smelled like sewage or septic tank. My brother was already pushed into their cell. I stayed there for 30 minutes before the GOC (General Officer Commanding) came out to see me.

“As soon as the GOC saw me, he queried them why they brought me there. They told him that I came for my brother. I told him how I got a call and how I came to save my brother. He said that he liked my guts. He asked them to bring out my brother.

“They brought him out, knelt him down before me. I gave them what they asked me to bring and I also gave them 20k (N20, 000) to drink. The GOC told me to be praying for MNK to be released. He ordered four of his men to escort us to that Ukpor junction.

“I was shocked to see a woman selling beer there and some girls who put spices to their lives were there singing and clapping. I bought them beer, they were 25 in number. But most of them were speaking Abakaliki dialect.

Several exotic cars were there. It is either their owners were killed or the owners ran away and abandoned them.

“Lilu town is like Sambisa forest now. It has been taken over by insurgents. There is no life there now. These guys are mean. They have intelligence everywhere. They are small boys. Lilu, Orsumoghu, Azia, Isekke, Ukpor are in serious trouble. It is very unfortunate. The experience is not worth having for a second time. We are in serious trouble in Anambra South.”

Residents of the area corroborated the account of grave situation given above; saying more than this still goes on in the area with people trying by all means to avoid that route. However, opinions are divided among stakeholders and residents of the region on the lingering attacks and killings, with blames being heaped mainly on the governors and security operatives.

Security operatives not doing enough to protect us— Community leader laments

On the increasing wave of attacks in Ihiala axis, a community leader in Okija, Chief Sebastian Okonkwo argued that security operatives were not doing enough to protect the people from the deadly attacks.

Speaking with South-East Voice, Okonkwo said Nigerian security operatives have been adopting ad hoc approach in dealing with the attacks. He decried a situation where the entire stretch of Isseke-Ukpor road has remained without the presence of security operatives since the resurgence of the gunmen.

“If there is any area where there should be checkpoints after every kilometer, it is the Isseke–Ukpor road which has become a haven for the gunmen. But rather, they stationed themselves at Ihiala and Azia junctions along the Onitsha–Owerri road, causing multiple accidents there always,” Okonkwo said.

While Okonkwo is worried about the insecurity along the Isseke–Ukpor road, there is a new development in parts of Anambra, which is the forceful acquisition of pump action guns procured by various communities for their vigilante service by agents of unknown gunmen. It was gathered that some youths, who are not from the villages in some communities in Ihiala Local Government Area, have been going round and forcing village chairmen to surrender all the guns in their possession and those who resisted were threatened with instant killing of their entire families.

Gunmen now order us to surrender Vigilantes’ pump action guns, seize them for their evil activities—Community laments

According to one of the chairmen, this has put the villages in serious danger as they could no longer defend themselves. He said that many communities in the local government area were affected by the development, which explains why the various communities could no longer resist the invasion of the gunmen in the area.

The chairman said: “When they brought an unsigned letter demanding that we surrender all guns in our possession, we thought it was a joke, but the next thing we saw was fierce-looking heavily armed youths who stormed my house and demanded for the guns. They were strange faces and they took the guns we purchased for our vigilante outfit.

“What surprised me was that they knew the number of guns we have, which is an indication that someone from our community was working with them. We have tried to identify who the saboteur could be without success. As it stands, we are at their mercy. They can come into any community and operate without any resistance.”

In the meantime, the Ukpor–Orsumoghu–Isseke road has become a no-go area. The only security checkpoint along that road is at Amichi-Nnewi junction. Before the unknown gunmen took over that axis, the Isseke–Orsumoghu–Awka Etiti road used to be the alternative road from Imo State to Onitsha, but now, the road has been abandoned and many people living along the road have become refugees in safer neighbouring communities.

South-East Voice also found out that for anybody to organise any ceremony, including burials, weddings and chieftaincy installation, in Lilu, Mbosi, Azia, Orsumoghu and even Isseke, the person has to pay a certain amount to the agents of the unknown gunmen. Once the money is paid, the person is free to hold his ceremony without any disturbance.

It was also gathered that additional payment is made if those attending the ceremony would use the dreaded Isseke–Orsumoghu–Ukpor road, in which case there won’t be any operation along that road on the day of the event.

According to our investigation, one of the conditions for granting such permission is that the organiser of the event must not invite the police to the ceremony, otherwise the person would risk attack of the unknown gunmen during the ceremony.

“The situation has degenerated to the level that we pay to survive in this part of the state and we don’t even know the people we pay to,” the community leader said.

But in the opinion of Abia Onyike, it is difficult to blame any group for the increase in violent attacks and killings in the South- East, saying he believes it is the result of failure of government in the region.

“But my own opinion is that these ugly developments only point to the failure of government in the South- East. The origins of the insecurity can be traced to September, 2017 when the South-East governors and then Ohanaeze President colluded with the Federal authorities to conduct Operation Python Dance in the South-East. It was followed by the proscription of IPOB. Many Igbo youths in Aba were dehumanized and drowned in the ponds. The unintelligent Igbo leaders felt they were doing very well. And recently, we have seen how Ebubeagu had been turned into an instrument of harassment and intimidation of the political opponents of the APC governors in Ebonyi and Imo states. Government cannot be sponsoring violence and declaring war on the civil population and expect peace to reign.

“As a sociologist and journalist, I am well read to understand the social origins of civil disobedience and militant resistance. But the problem of the present crop of governors in Igbo land is that they are not patriotic. Secondly, they are not well tutored in politics. Look at how the South-West governors have managed Amotekun to ward off attacks by Fulani herdsmen. But here, our governors have lost touch with the people who elected them. That is why they can afford to behave like the enemies of the people. To me, the only governors I respect in Igboland are Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the incoming Governor of Anambra, Prof. Charles Soludo. These are people who can hold genuine dialogue with the people. Okezie Ikpeazu is not a bully like Umahi and Uzodinma but his developmental trajectory is scandalous and backward. Obiano is equally a gentleman.

“The worst ruler is the one who thinks he can use force to silence the people. Sometimes it can boomerang and that is why it would appear that the South-East governors have lost touch with their responsibilities in civil governance. In their brazen pursuit of self aggrandizement, they are alienated from the people. They have destroyed the civil service, some of them owe backlog of salaries and gratuities and the local government system has been castrated by them because of greed and avarice. It is like a declaration of war on the people. The things which bound society together have been devastated by their tyrannical leadership. That is why they have lost legitimacy. What we see as violent crimes are ugly incidents which show that these leaders are no more in charge. It is a shame”, Onyike lamented.

In their reaction, a group of elite Igbo professionals, Concerned Igbo Stakeholders Forum, CISF, expressed worry over the situation, warning that the situation in the South-East could turn to what is happening in the North-East.

The leader of the group, Chukwuma Okenwa said: “We are disquieted with the resurgence in frequent attacks, killings, arson and kidnappings in Igbo land. This is gradually creating a Southern version of the North-East narrative of terror and bloodshed. We are aware that there are security challenges across all the regions of the country, but what is currently happening in the South-East is a replica of what the North-East has become.

“What makes the case of the South-East more worrisome is that we do not have the luxury of space enough to either accommodate the terrorists or for the safe engagement of the miscreants by the armed forces. We know what happened when the Army launched an air strike in Orlu, allegedly against terrorists and that claimed the lives of innocent indigenes. Thus the enemy can either live within the people or come into the region whenever they wish to strike. This makes the situation potentially a more complex one than the North-East and all stakeholders must rise to the challenge.

“It is also important to note that a good number of those attacks seem to have happened when roads are free – either during sit-at-home or in the case of the ‘no movement order’ in the recent Local Government Area elections in Enugu State. Areas of the region with less vehicular movements seem to be more vulnerable and that offers an insight into adopting a clearer strategy by the security agencies and the indigenes.

“How these attacks happen frequently without adequate security intelligence to forecast it, contain it or even uncover the details thereafter, makes a case for either a compromise or a collapse of security intelligence in the region.

“There is a need to integrate the indigenes and all stakeholders into the intelligence and security awareness architecture in the region. The issue of strategic communication should also be deployed to help build confidence in the people of the region, and not fear which favours the enterprise of the hoodlums.”

Prominent Igbo leader and politician, Chief Chekwas Okorie described the menace of unknown gunmen as very shameful, adding that it is a clear indication of failure of governance in the region.

Okorie said that the state governments in the region can resolve the problem with the huge security allocations they receive every month by utilising the fund in the training and equipment of vigilante groups in every community, noting that the so called unknown gunmen occupy forests in communities in the region which the vigilantes, if well motivated, could join forces with the federal security agencies to identify them and end the ugly situation.

He also said that it is extremely difficult to exonerate the activities of IPOB/ESN from the mayhem because of their flagrant methods of operation, insisting however, that another solution is provision of good governance that could provide jobs for the restive youths.

His words: “It is very disturbing and it is a clear indication of failure of governance in the South- East. For a long time, people had expected the governors in the South- East, which is almost the smallest geographical location compared to other zones in Nigeria, to end this. I don’t see how complicated and difficult it is for the governors to work together and tackle the issue of insecurity in the zone using the various advantages they have as governors.

“You see, these are our children who live among us, some of them hide away in the forests and this is where the local vigilante security outfits coordinated by the states can flush them out. They have gone to the extent of bloodletting for no justifiable reason. They have carried cultism from the universities into the society. Innocent businessmen are targeted and shot for no reason and it is so painful.”

On the linking of IPOB/ESN to the orgy of violence in the region, Okorie said: “Well, it is such a difficult thing to either exonerate IPOB

2021 NLNG prize winner, Onyemelukwe, confirms father’s killing

The father of the winner of the 2021 NLNG Prize for Nigerian Literature, Professor Isaiah Onyemelukwe, has been killed by gunmen

His daughter, Prof Cheluchi, who confirmed the incident to Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, said, “My heart is heavy. It is the hardest thing that Nigeria happed to my father. We don’t even know where we are headed in this country, but I’m glad he lived an exemplary and lesson-filled life will try to put up something tomorrow.”

It was learnt that Onyemelukwe, an 88-year-old retired professor of Economics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, on Friday in Oko, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Multiple sources said the gunmen blocked vehicles coming from Umunze, Ufunma into Oko, and murdered the professor in cold blood.

It was gathered that the operation lasted for more than an hour unhindered.

The assailants were also said to have abducted two other individuals whose whereabouts have remained unknown.

A Facebook user with the name, moniker Onyi, who shared the news in a post on Nairaland, wrote, “South-East is absolutely going down. My godfather was recently murdered by the marauding killers wreaking havoc on the South-East’s ecosystem.

“He was returning to Nanka with his wife from Enugu and decided to follow the Oji-Ufuma-Amaokpala-Oko axis instead of traveling through Awka when he was attacked by the hoodlums.

“The previous Bishop of Niger, Bishop J. A. Onyemelukwe, is his cousin. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!”

The late professor was a permanent secretary in the old Anambra.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, promised to get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as of press time.

also the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Voice of the Senior Citizens of Nigeria. I am 102 years old. I attended grammar school in those days – what you people call secondary school now – before going abroad for further studies. I am an activist, both abroad and home. I am a great great grandmother.  I am a widow and.

How was your growing up like?

Growing up was full of discipline in those days, we were taught hard work. We were taught morals and our hands were given out in marriage very early in life. My father was a chief warder in the old Bendel State. My mother was a businesswoman.

Recently, you declared interest in becoming Nigeria’s President. Why do you consider yourself suitable for the job?

All my life, I have lived a life of service and offering humanitarian aid. I have travelled far and wide and garnered enough experience to lead a nation. I have spent my life mostly abroad and I have seen the countries that are flying high and I have seen countries that are facing challenges, especially corruption. And I have seen my own country, Nigeria, going from bad to worse and I have decided to rise up to the occasion because this country needs to be salvaged by all means before it becomes irredeemable and we, the senior citizens, cannot continue to fold our arms. We need to return Nigeria to the country of our dreams. I have seen people suffer, I have seen people lose their lives needlessly due to insecurity, I have seen people going to bed without eating and I have seen our young ones roaming the streets in search of employment.

I have seen people who do not have hope in sight and I have seen people committing suicide today more than during our own time. In fact, during our own time, you could not see people thinking of anything that would make them commit suicide, but today, it has become a common phenomenon.

I have seen the health care system in the country gone down to nothing; I have seen factories closing down with many having no jobs. I have seen people taking flights to other countries to access health care system. I have seen our children die in the desert and in the ocean because they were looking for greener pastures.

So, I said to myself, I can do better than our recent leaders. However, that has not always been my intention. But having waited up till today and seeing that people are just being recycled over and over again within the same government, as if there are no other people in this country of 200 million people who can equally do the job and even better, (I have decided to come out); more so because as a matter of fact 50 per cent, if not 90 per cent, of the people being recycled in government are well-known as corrupt individuals.

I have watched our young men and women, who I know that if they are given the platform, they will not only perform but clearly outperform the current people in leadership circles today; they would use their creative energies to transform Nigeria and in no time, Nigeria would be resurrected to start competing with the successful countries around the world.

In terms of human and capital development, Nigeria has gone down. Nigerians are suffering while the wealth of the nation is circulating in the hands of very few people. So, we need a leader who can be creative, a no-nonsense leader who can think out of the box to give the country the kind of leadership it deserves.

I am coming out now because the younger ones are not ready to come out and I don’t know why they are afraid, especially those ones from the South-East.

In my recent media interview, I talked about the issue and why the younger ones are afraid of coming out. And I did not see our young men and women declaring interest. Although, I am seeing one or two coming out, they are not coming out like a lion; they are coming out as if they are afraid. So, there is no reason for us not to come out – men and women – to challenge the recycling going on in the polity.

You know power is not given, even in those days; you must come out to get it. And I am saying to them, if they are not ready to come out, I have already shown my interest to come out. My posters, very soon, will flood everywhere. I believe the whole world will vote for me, not only Nigerians, if they have a way of voting. I will not be afraid in a country that I joined others to build, and trust me, I have made my own contribution in the building of this nation and I can’t be afraid of anything.

There are a lot of people who were not born here but they are contesting and winning elections. How much me, who was born here?  This country needs somebody who has integrity, knowledge and understanding of the peculiarities and challenges of this country. I am a critical stakeholder in this country and nature will blame me if I continue to look the other way while the current politicians we have now destroy things.

Look at our currency, it has no value in reality and you want me to keep quiet when obviously there are a lot I can do to help salvage the situation.

The youths of this country are afraid to take the bull by the horns and I don’t know why it is so, especially the youths from the South-East.

Presidential electioneering campaign involves heavy spending. How do you hope to raise such money?

Take it or leave it, once Nigerians see somebody like me, they will want to identify with me, and my plans are working already because Nigerians and people all over the world are saying, “Yes, come out; we will sponsor your campaigns.” Since my declaration was made public, many people have called, they have asked me to put out my bank account details so that they can deposit money.  But I am not a worshipper of money, I want Nigerians to buy into and claim ownership of my government.  I want Nigerians to buy into this project and be in charge of the government that will come out of this.

Don’t you think that when you allow people to sponsor your campaign, they will force you to do things their own way or have undue influence on your government?

The people will not lead me into the ocean; they can only tell me that they need factories to be built; they need the currency to be strengthened; they need security, they need employment. These are the things the Nigerian people want.  I am a versatile person; I have founded so many groups with people that cut across various ethnic groups. I have done well to show that I can deliver this country from its present condition. I can unite this country. I fought the South African apartheid; I fought the war in Burundi. There is nothing I cannot do for my country. By the time I complete my eight years’ rule, Nigeria will become another Dubai.

At your age, do you think you still have the energy that the office of the President requires?

Energy is God-given and God-made. I have the God-given energy which He has blessed me with. I am still strong enough to move around and I really don’t have to be everywhere. I will have team members to delegate duties to. Nelson Mandela ruled South Africa at the age he ruled and we all saw how he galvanised that country within the period. He came and did the much he could do within the four years he ruled. If I come out in four years and God says I should go for another four years, I will do. Thank God, we have the social media available to simplify all the tasks involved.

Like the current President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), you are an aged person. Do you really believe you can do better than him as President?

Well, Buhari is just like my first son and I think he is trying his best. It is one thing to be a king while it is another to be a kingmaker. If you are a king and the kingmakers are more powerful than you are, it is also makes another greater difference. Buhari has done his bit the way he understands it but I agree he could have done far better. Buhari has tried his best but his best is not just good enough to salvage this country. He did not realise what he was coming to face, that was why he kept promising Nigerians here and there. But the realities on the ground have dawned on him and it became obvious right from the outset that his capacity could not take Nigeria out of its current mess. He has tried, but the effort is not just enough

To answer your question: Can I do better? (Let’s wait) until then because I will take a different approach. I will have better advisers. One thing I can tell you is that Nigeria will be great again under my leadership.

Given your age, people are saying that your declaration is a publicity stunt. What is your response to such people?

Before now, I have done so much in this world and you have never heard my voice or my name. Publicity is not my ambition. I have achieved so much that publicity is not my problem. If I start mentioning all my achievements, we won’t finish (this interview) in three days. What I can tell you for free is that the issue of this country bothers me so much. And this is why I am coming out. This was not how we laid the foundation of our great country. What am I using publicity to do at this point? I have successful children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The issue is that I can’t continue to stay aloof while charlatans, who did not know the sacrifice we put in for this country to come into existence, continue to mess it up. God has kept me alive up till now so that I can bring the desired change that this country truly needs. I am so wealthy that I give what I have. So, what am I looking for? What I have done is not for my country alone, I have contributed so much to the growth of the world. There is so much rot in the system and the present leaders don’t know what to do.

What are your children’s opinions about your presidential ambition?

In fact, they are the happiest people right now. They are very impressed by my strong will to come out to salvage this country. They are my cheerleaders and my backbone. They are watching the way I am doing things and they are telling me, “Grandma, when I grow up, I will love to be like you.” I haven’t heard any of them saying otherwise. They are very happy wherever they are and I adopted so many children. A lot of people have been calling me since they read about my declaration in the media. That is why I am challenging the young ones. The youths of this country must rise up. If the youths are folding their arms while old people like me are being recycled in government, then let me too enter race. Let the youths continue to complain in the social media. We have so many vibrant young people for God’s sake, where are they? Let them come out and stop complaining in the social media! Go abroad, Nigerian youths are doing exploits, but here, they are laid-back. And if they don’t want to rise, let me come out. I won’t see Nigerians going hungry, I won’t see Nigerians going to bed without food, I won’t see youths unemployed and be comfortable as a President. But most of the Presidents we have had in this country seem to be delighted about this. I will not see my old people not being taken care of. The old people built this country; therefore, they should not be denied what rightfully belongs to them. How can they relegate us, the old people, in a country we built together? This will never happen under my watch. Our children will go to school up to university free of charge. A situation where an individual will embezzle public funds and he or she joins the party in power and the sins are forgiven won’t happen under me.

On what political party will you be running?

I am still making consultations. I am consulting widely, home and abroad. Some political parties have approached me to adopt me as their candidate. At the right time I will make the party known.

What are your expectations and your message to Nigerians as regards the 2023 elections?

My message to them is that the future is still very bright for this country, despite the challenges it is facing now, but Nigerians must make the right choices in 2023 and stop glorifying criminals. Nigerians must stop praising those who are stealing the wealth that belongs to them and keeping them in abject poverty. The youths should come out and stop hiding in the social media. The rot and damage is massive and it is because the young ones have left the affairs of this country, their future, far too long, in the hands of recycled leaders. The damage can make one to despair, but I will tell Nigerians that there is still hope of redemption if we start doing the right things. The people should stop collecting money from politicians during elections

As for 2023, we are praying and calling on God not to allow those who are squandering the wealth and resources of this country to have their way back. This is the only country we have, especially the young ones. As for me, I have seen it all, what else am I still seeking other than the growth of my country? I say no to the exodus of our young ones to foreign lands as a result of bad governance. I want Nigerians to make a U-turn in the way they select their leaders

Politics / How Ipob-gunmen In Anambra Kidnapped My Brother & Demanded For 200k Ransom by MyopicMods: 6:23pm On Feb 25, 2022
A man who refused to disclose his identity because of security reasons has narrated how his cousin brother who visited Nigeria for a burial from Switzerland was abducted by suspected gunmen of the Indigenous People Of Biafra.

He said the abductors of his brother whose operational base is in Lilu in Anambra State did not hide their identity after he was ferried to their camp to pay a ransom of two hundred thousand naira for his brothers release.

The gunmen according to his account, said that they resorted to kidnapping after Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in order to raise funds for their operations.

Read his account below.

Let me share this my experience with you guys for everybody to know that we are in serious troubles.

At about 2pm on the 26th January, 2022, I got a call from my cousin who came back from Switzerland for a burial at Umuike Ukpor. He told me that he was under captivity of IPOB guys at Lilu. The IPOB guys told me to come with 200,000 naira and bail my brother and his SUV if I still want him alive. Initially, I thought it was a prank but when the call came again, I knew it was a serious matter

They warned me not to involve police or else they will kill my brother. I called my boss in the office and told him what was happening and he adviced me not go. I also sought the opinion of my other friend who is a DSS guy, he asked me not to go. I called my elder sister and she warned me not to try it

They used another number to call me and directed me on how to come. I convinced myself that I should go and that nothing would happen to me. But my instinct continued telling me to go and save Okey

As soon as I joined the St Joseph to St Joseph/Onuselogu road, one particular bike man started following me from Awka Etitit section

I pretended that I wanted to buy fuel but the pump attendant told me that one man was calling me at the other side of the road. I also received a call from another number and I told them that I was on my way.

I took my old Siena bus and withdrew 250k and moved. Surprisingly, the person asked me whether I was the person with the Siena and I answered in affirmative. He then asked me to stop at Hajosty Petroleum at Ukpor which I did.
I came down, waited for further instructions
He then told me that my brother was in safe hands only that MNK onye Ndu is in prison and there is no money to operate

I walked to the other side and the man showed me my phone number and asked me whether I was the owner which I accepted. He then told me to buy him 2 bottles of Hero beer at a shop there which I did. I also took my own 2 bottles of Heineken beer

I told him that I understood him perfectly well. He then told me to remove everything that bear Nigeria I have on me and keep them in my vehicle and I obliged him.

Emirate asks NCAA to punish Air Peace for refusing to delay flight…

I have bequeathed Nigerians a lasting legacy with the new electoral…

That’s why they deployed a way of raising money by kidnapping. He asked me to join him on his bike and we zoomed off from that Hajosty Petroleum Ukpor

He asked me to pick a Greenleaf and be waving it across my head as he drove into Lilu.
That was when I knew that I was in trouble.
We got to a a point where they used a trip of chippings to block the tarred road and they dug a deep gully after the chippings to prevent soldiers from entering with armoured tanks into Lilu.

He drove for about 3 kilometers without seeing any life there except IPOB guys who were armed with various types of arms and dangerous weapons.

The guy was on a neck breaking speed until he got to Lilu junction Orsumoghu. There is also a filling station there which I can not remember the name now. He stopped and went to the filling station to greet some fierce looking men. All of them were carrying AK 47 automatic rifles with cache of ammunitions.

But they created a road in the bush where one could drive through but the road was seriously manned by IPOB guys. Several exotic cars were there. It is either their owners were killed or the owners ran away and abandoned them

When we got to their camp, it was a gory sight.
I was shocked to see a woman selling beer there and some girls who put spices to their lives were there singing and clapping.
My Visa was the green leaf which identified me as a peaceful man.

I bought them beer and they were 25 in number
I stayed there for 30 minutes before the GOC came out to see me. My brother was already pushed into their cell. They brought him out and knelt him down before me.

As soon as the GOC saw me, he queried them why they brought me there. They told him that I came for my brother. He said that there was a grave that was following me. But everywhere was smelling like sewage or septic tank.
I told him how I got a call and how I came to save my brother. He said that he liked my guts. He asked them to bring out my brother.
He ordered 4 of his men to escort us to that Ukpor junction.

The GOC told me to be praying for MNK to be released. I gave them what they asked me to bring and I also gave them 20k to drink.
But most of them were speaking Abakaliki dialect

There is no life there now.
Lilu town is like Sambisa forest now.
The experience is not worth having for a second time

It has been taken over by insurgents.
We are in serious troubles in Anambra South
These guys are mean
They have Intel’s everywhere
It is very unfortunate
It is very unfortunate
Lilu, Orsumoghu, Azia, Isekke, Ukpor are in serious troubles
They are small boys.

Politics / Declan Emelumba: Imo people Not Wike Will Re-Elect Uzodinma by MyopicMods: 9:28pm On Feb 24, 2022
Imo State Government has declared that the re-election of Gov Hope Uzodinma will be done by the people of Imo state who will not be influenced by ” rabble-rousers like Nyesom Wike”

It also declared that the re-election of the Governor is assured based on his sterling performance unlike the Rivers governor “who in the last seven years has squandered the goodwill of the people while chasing shadows and meddling in the affairs of other states”

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba was reacting to the statement credited to Wike that PDP will take over Imo state in the next election.

Emelumba noted that if the performance of Wike was an indices of the strength of PDP, then the party will never dethrone Uzodimma because the River state governor is synonymous with unmitigated failure and crass recklessness

The man in question is a colossal failure and a megalomaniac whose posturing has left Rivers State poorer in the last seven years. He is a complete failure in governance and leadership and therefore is unfit to assess Uzodinma”, the commissioner said.

He said it was unfortunate that the disunity in APC in Rivers State led to the emergence of Wike who struts the stage like a drunken emperor.

He said while Wike was busy wasting the state’s resources in building flyovers that are useless, he has not been able to fix even the general hospital in Isiokpo, the heart of Ikwerre land.

According to Emelumba, the Rivers governor has not only turned the youths of the state to labourers of Julius Berger, due to unemployment but has divided the state through his divisive and erratic policies.

The commissioner urged Wike to humble himself and learn governance and leadership from Uzodinma whom he said has done in two years what the Rivers governor could not do in seven years.

“The sheer quantum of roads done by Uzodimma in two years is a testament of his prodigious service delivery. He has empowered the youths. He has reactivated industries. He has brought back health institutions to live in. More than that, he has united Imo people and returned power to the people”, he said.

He noted that, unlike Wike whose discriminatory policies have torn Rivers apart, Uzodinma has been able to spread infrastructure in all the 27 local government areas of the state.

He said “the “gra gra” posture and domineering attitude of Wike led to the defection of two governors to APC while more will follow in the following months.

” Which PDP will take over Imo State? The fractured one that has been colonised by Wike which is now his appendage or which one? Hope Uzodinma’s sterling performance will win him re-election and not the fantasies of a confused man whose is a celebrated failure”, he insisted.

He advised Wike to be wary of his utterances, saying that Imo people will not tolerate any disrespect to the Government and people of the state.

He said, ” In many states of Nigeria including Cross River, the man has been declared a personal non grata. Let him not test our will”.

Politics / INDABOSKI! If Only For 2nd Niger Bridge, This Country Won’t Forget Buhari – Femi by MyopicMods: 8:44am On Feb 18, 2022
INDABOSKI! If only for 2nd Niger bridge, this country won’t forget Buhari – Femi Adesina

This year, the long wait for Godot will come to an end. The second bridge over the River Niger will be commissioned, and put to use. And what a dream come true it would be.

Last December, a friend had traveled from Lagos to the South East for the Christmas holidays. When he had spent six hours on the River Niger bridge, a journey which should take less than five minutes, since the bridge is only 1.6 kilometers long, he called me in frustration. He was almost bursting a blood vessel.

I consoled and comforted him, and added for good effect: “This is the last time you and other travelers would be stranded on that bridge. By next Christmas, there would be two bridges in operation, and it would be a jolly good ride.”

He said a resounding amen, and went off the line. What trauma and travails users of the River Niger bridge have passed through. Built in 1965, the artery between the South East, South South, and the rest of the country has become grossly inadequate, and a torture to navigate at peak seasons. There was a year travelers even spent the night on the bridge.

There is a long history to the building of a second bridge over the River Niger, and it had over the years become a tool of false promises, lies and propaganda. When politicians want the votes of South Easterners as elections approach, they go and offload shovels, pick axes, wheelbarrows, cutlasses and others at the site, as if that is what is required to build a bridge of that magnitude. After they’ve got the votes, they come to remove their miserable implements. Goodbye basket, I’ve carried all my apples. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did it for 16 years, building the bridge with their mouths.

The first recollection was during the campaign for the 1979 presidential election. Candidate of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Alhaji Shehu Shagari, went to the South East, and promised a Second Niger bridge. That was all it was. A promise, though the NPN government lasted from 1979 to 1983.

Then came the military regimes headed by Muhammadu Buhari, which lasted only 20 months, that of Ibrahim Babangida, which endured for eight years, Ernest Shonekan-led Interim National Government, 84 days, Sani Abacha, five years, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, 11 months. Nothing was heard about the bridge.

Under Babangida, an alarm was raised about the deteriorating condition of the bridge. Ever the master of artifice and sleight of hand, the then military president challenged Nigerian engineers to design a new bridge. They did! End of story.

Then came Olusegun Obasanjo, a former military head of state, as civilian President. He promised to build the bridge. It didn’t happen in eight years.

READ ALSO: Buhari laments mass youth migration to Europe
About five days before he left office, Obasanjo flagged off the project, to cost N58.6 billion, and handed it to his successor, Umaru Yar’Adua. No action in the three years that the administration lasted. Understandably so, for Yar’Adua was infirm.

Then came Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who even at a point added Azikiwe to his name. He promised Heaven on earth, saying he was a South easterner, and he would build the bridge. During a Town Hall meeting on August 30, 2012, in the region, he said what would he claim he had done for his Igbo brethren, if he didn’t build the bridge.

Later, Azikiwe disappeared from Jonathan’s name, and the Second Niger bridge disappeared with it. All that happened in the about six years that the administration lasted was a Federal Executive Council approval for final planning and design of the bridge. All motion, no movement.

And then came the man from Daura, a Fulani, with no affinity with the South East. He didn’t make promises, he didn’t boast. He just went to work quietly.

From September 1, 2018, without fanfare or swashbuckling, action started on the Second Niger bridge. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Minister for Works and Housing, was the chief executioner. Doggedly, he and his principal set to work. And here we are today. What has defeated many military and civilian administrations is now reality in our country.

I will never forget the day I traveled to Onitsha for a private event. I was on the same flight from Lagos to Onitsha with His Royal Majesty, the Obi of Onitsha. When we alighted, and were walking towards the arrival hall of the airport, I went to pay my courtesies to the distinguished monarch.

He greeted me warmly, asked after President Buhari, and told me to pass his appreciation for the work being done on the Second Niger bridge.

“Every time I drive on the old bridge, and I look to my side, seeing the new upcoming one, joy wells in my heart,” the Obi said.

And that is the thing to do. We must appreciate the ramrod straight man from Daura for succeeding where many other leaders before him had failed. Where there is a will, there is a way.

President Buhari has taken up many major infrastructure works, most of which would be due for commissioning before he exits next year May. Roads, rail, airports, bridges, many others. If only for the Second Niger bridge, Nigerians will never forget Muhammadu Buhari. But then, you can add Loko-Oweto bridge, Bodo-Bonny road, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Enugu-Port Harcourt, Abuja to Kaduna and Kano, AKK Pipelines, rail network across the country, and many others. Surely, this country will always remember Muhammadu Buhari for good, no matter how revisionists have tried to shroud the successes with only talk of insecurity ravaging the country. While the security challenges are being met frontally, infrastructure proceeds apace. It takes determination and doggedness.

Indaboski! Nigeria will always remember Buhari for his strides in infrastructure, when the country was earning far less than it used to do.

Indaboski? What does it mean? Search me. Ask Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje what the word means. He coined it.

But I repeat: Indaboski! This country will never forget Buhari, if only for the Second Niger bridge.
