The plenary which was disrupted at about 11.30am resumed by 12.10pm. Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has assured lawmakers that the NASS will deal wit the situation fully, warning the attackers not to take democracy for granted.
Meanwhile, The Senate has described the attack on the National Assembly and the carting away of the mace by thugs ash act of treason cannot be tolerated. Senate Spokesman, Sabi Abdullahi stated this in a statement. “Today, some hoodlums led by suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, walked into the Senate plenary and seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace.
“This action is an act of treason, as it is an attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Government of Nigeria by force, and it must be treated as such. All Security agencies must stand on the side of due process and immediately mobilize their personnel to retrieve the mace and apprehend the mastermind and the perpetrators of this act.
“This action is also an affront on the legislature, and the Leadership of the House has come to express their support against this action. “The Senate is now in an Executive session. “An updated statement will be released immediately after the closed door session.
Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of information and a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has given reasons why it will be difficult for Igbos to attain the presidency in Nigeria, citing disunity and their preference for supporting the candidates with huge financial chests during election. Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT on why it has been difficult for the Igbos to produce a president since 1999, Momoh said one of the problems facing the Igbo is their inability to be united and queue behind one single candidate for presidential election. He gave an instance of what happened in 2003 when the late Chuba Okadigbo, who was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2003 presidential election, visited Igbo leaders in Lagos and solicited their support. According to him, the Igbo leaders who had earlier collected N6m from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asked them to bring N6m before they can give their support to Okadigbo, who is one of them.
“The fact is the Igbos have been in a difficult place since the civil war. They started from scratch after the civil war and they had to reestablish themselves in the Nigerian polity and they had to start moving up slowly in the institution. Many of them their senior people in the Army were no longer there but they have moved in the Army to the highest level, even to the level of Chief of Army Staff” . “The Igbos are a wonderful people. For instance, at the end of the war, inspite of what you’ve had, they gave you 20 pounds. Every other thing collapsed. Then the Igbos came back to Nigeria and Nigerians celebrated with them and forgot that there was any war . Where they have property, apart from Port Harcourt, people were collecting the rents for them and gave it back to them. But the fact is climbing the social, political and economic ladder takes time” .
“But because of commercial activities, they dominated the economic terrain in Nigeria, the Igbos are the main group of any city in Nigeria. Even in Lagos today, they have Igbos in the House of Representatives” . “But the Igbos are as disunited as the youths of Nigeria who wants to be president. We were in ANPP. We went to Lagos with the late Chuba Okadigbo who was Buhari’s running mate in the 2003 presidential elections. We met the Igbo chiefs in Lagos and asked for Igbo votes. The chief said we should come back the next day. We came back the following day and he said ‘look at that corner, that is N6m that PDP gave us. Bring us N6m and we will vote for you. I will return the N6m given to us by PDP to them” .
“That is trading and I am not surprised because they are businessmen and they talk business. For you to be talking business, the highest bidder is the person you will befriend. Nigeria will always try to divide the Igbos through financial compromises” . “ I speak truth to power, issues and institutions. If for instance, you have an Igbo aspiring to be president, you may have about 20 people from the same South-East wanting to be president. The issue is, how can they sit down and say we decide that we want a particular person as our candidate? Nigeria knowing that weakness will cause trouble so that they cannot be united. That is the problem” he said.

uche87: There is a possibility that Big Brother Naija housemate, Tobi was strangely born 'two times' as he claims to be 23 years old as well as being 29 years old according to scanty details revealed by his former strategic and romance partner Cee-C.
The toxic relationship between Cee-C and Tobi has continued today with the latter going on full attack on the University of Lagos graduate.
Cee-C vehemently criticized Tobi for serially gossiping about her with other housemates. She claims that Tobi isn't man enough and has been hovering around Alex, Anto as well as her in a bid to date one of them.
The controversial Cee-C accused Tobi of conspiring against her, gossiping about her, defaming her within the house, putting her up for eviction as well as making other frantic but futile effort to eject her from the reality show which promises a N45 million prize money.
During the dramatic session which lasted for about 40 minutes during which Tobi hardly uttered a sentence, Cee-C alleged that Tobi told her that he is 29 years old.
It would be recalled that Tobi's official age is 23 and this has raised the eyebrows of viewers considering the physical appearance and behavioural tendencies of the former employee of Heritage Bank Plc.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the president said a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school and they want everything free.
“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one,” Buhari said.
“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free.”
The President said he has done well on the three cardinal points of his campaign, including economy and security.
“Recently, my minister for information was constrained to answer a question on people accusing this administration of doing nothing, he said ‘let Nigerians be reminded what position we were before May 2015, what condition we are now, and what we have achieved between then and now and I think people were impressed with the answer.
“For security, we have done quite well. Economy, we are doing very well, especially with agriculture; we are providing soft loans, and guarantee is that you have to belong to a certain locality and you have got land, you don’t have to go to the bank and need a physical collateral. I think a lot is being done.”
The president is expected to meet with business leaders and other heads of state as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting progress through the week

mrkunlex: The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has given Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) two months to identify and apprehend herdsmen behind killings in Nigeria.
He gave the order during the formal swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executives of MACBAN in Sokoto, on Tuesday.
The monarch also charged the leadership of MACBAN to find out whether Fulani herdsmen are actually responsible for the killings across the country or not. The Sultan lamented the labelling of Fulanis as the killer herdsmen.
According to Abubakar, “To you the newly elected leadership of MACBAN, I want to remind you that your task is a very challenging one. Don’t forget that Fulanis are also being killed in Nigeria and no media attention is given to it.
“However, we are giving you two months to go round the entire country and find out why Fulanis are accused of being behind the killings. Go and find out who are those Fulanis doing the killings. Also find out if it is other people that are doing the killings and are accusing the Fulanis. Please, we want to get the truth from you within two months.
“We are not ashamed to be called Fulanis because Fulanis are not trouble makers. Despite the fact that any wrong doing in Nigeria now is erroneously said to be caused by Fulanis.
“We however want people to know that though there might be bad ones amongst the Fulanis, just like there are in every race, that is not enough justification to generalise that all Fulanis are bad.”
