A bloody clash over issues relating to an alleged affair with a girlfriend has reportedly left two friends dead in Ogume community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State.

One of the deceased identified as Igala, it was learnt, was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, Pedro who was killed in a reprisal attack by a mob in the incident that occurred on Tuesday.

Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe confirmed the killings yesterday.

Sources said the deceased hailed from Ogbe-Ogume and Igbe Ogume quarters of the community.

“The two boys are friends and they are commercial motorcyclists, (Okada riders)” a source said, saying that one of them (Pedro) had problems with his girlfriend and the other one (Igala) tried to resolve the issues.

“In the process of doing that, his friend suspected that he had started having an affair with the girl. In the process of dealing with that, issues arose” the source who craved anonymity, said.

He said Pedro confronted Igala and stabbed him to death, adding that
“After killing him, a reprisal attack occurred when the whole thing was let loose as the man (Pedro) was later killed by a mob.”

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspected gunrunners who manufacture guns and supply them to armed robbers and kidnappers.

The Suspects are Tega Dierunaba, 44, of Ororokpe community in Okpe LGA Delta State; Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas, 42, of Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA, Imo State; and Sunday Moses Pam, 36, of Von community in Jos South LGA Plateau State.

Following an intensive intelligence-led investigation, the operatives on CP’s special assignment, based in Ughelli, arrested the three suspects on July 16, 2024, between 1 pm and 7:35 pm.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, revealed that Pam “usually conceals and conveys” the arms from Plateau State to Delta State.

“All suspects have admitted to the crime as confessed earlier by one Goodluck Sakutu, 38, of Ekpan community, Uvwie LGA Delta State, who was earlier arrested and one fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered from him,” he said.

In the meantime, the suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

DAILY POST recalls that there was a recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle on June 8, 2024, and three people were also arrested.

Edo State Police Command has narrated how a 17-year-old, Arthur Angel Jr. killed his 70-year-old father, Arthur Judah Angel over some money expected from Amnesty International.

DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, said the suspect had severally threatened to kill his father on the ground that his father was expecting some money from Amnesty International.

Nwabuzor said the suspect who had since been arrested, killed the deceased with a sledge-hammer and buried him in a shallow grave behind his house.

According to him, “on the 15th of July, 2024, at about 09.00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ugboha division in Edo State received a complaint that one Arthur Angel Jr. (17 years) brought a complaint of a shallow grave discovery at the backyard of the compound where he lived with the deceased.

“Immediately, the DPO mobilized his men and they moved out to the scene. On getting there, they saw a shallow grave and decided to exhume the body.

“When the body was exhumed, they discovered that it was the lifeless body of Arthur Angel, 70, and at a close look, they saw a sharp injury on the back of the deceased head, and the body was taken to Uromi Hospital mortuary.

“The DPO said that preliminary investigation revealed that Arthur Angel Jr. had severally threatened to kill his father on the ground that his father was expecting some money from Amnesty International.

“The suspect had a feeling that the money had been paid to the deceased and decided to use the sledge-hammer to hit him behind the head while he was asleep.”

He said the suspect has been transferred from Ugboha to the homicide section of the Edo State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He said the incident happened at Ugboha community in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Until his death, Arthur Judah Angel was an anti-death penalty advocate, and a human rights defender, who used his foundation, Life Wire International Foundation, to fight against the death penalty in the country.

He was said to have travelled to over 15 countries to speak out against the death penalty through his art exhibitions and drawings.

Some Youths From Amassoma Community In Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, On Monday, reportedly killed a final year student of the Niger Delta University, NDU, identified as Francis Palowei, over N150 levy at a sand dump, a popular relaxation spot in the area.

DAILY POST, gathered from a resident of the community who spoke on the condition of anonymity, that the sand dump is a popular spot where students often go to relax, socialize and climb the height of it for fun.

He said some youths in the area, seeing the concentration of students at the sand dump, then began to levy any students that came to the spot to relax, especially those who wanted to climb to the top of the sand dump.

He said on Monday evening, the murdered final-year student came to the spot with some of his friends and was heading to the top of the dump when some youths demanded N500 instead of the statutory N150, a situation that led to an argument before the community youths went and called other youths including a notorious cultist, which led to the death of the student.

He said Late Francis Palowei, who is a native of Obrigbene town in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was a promising young man with a bright future ahead of him while his senseless murder has left his family, friends, and the entire University community in mourning.

It was also gathered that the deceased’s father is a high-ranking police officer.

The Public Relations Officer at the Niger Delta University, Mr Ndoni Igezi, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, described it as unfortunate, stating that police are already on top of the situation to curtail any escalation.

He said the sand dump is located at the end of the community, though the owner of the dump is not charging any fees from it, some youths in the community collect N150 to allow people climb to the top for fun.

A Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Muhammed, who confirmed the incident in Yenagoa, said the Commissioner of Police has already deployed additional security personnel to the area to restore calm and orderliness.

He also stated that police have launched manhunts to arrest the suspected killers.
