Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, convicted and sentenced the duo of Hamza Zakaria and Nurudeen Mohammed Ibrahim to two years and two months’ imprisonment for their roles in an ₦8.56 billion fraud involving unauthorized access to a new-generation bank’s computer systems.

Zakaria and Ibrahim were initially arraigned on May 2, 2025, alongside other defendants, on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, and unauthorized access to a computer system, contrary to Sections 409 and 331 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Count One reads that: “HAMZA ZAKARIA AND NURUDEEN MOHAMMED IBRAHIM and other persons at large, sometime in January 2025 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired amongst yourselves to transfer and otherwise retain criminal proceeds from unauthorized access to Wema Bank’s computer and servers.”

Count Two reads that: “HAMZA ZAKARIA AND NURUDEEN MOHAMMED IBRAHIM and other persons at large, sometime in January 2025 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, transferred and otherwise retained control of ₦24,890,000 paid into Exact Group Limited account number 0121622626 domiciled with Wema Bank — money which formed part of ₦8,568,090,500 (Eight Billion, Five Hundred and Sixty-Eight Million, Ninety Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) stolen from other domiciled accounts with Wema Bank Nigeria Plc through unauthorized access to their computer and server.”

They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

However, on Friday, November 14, 2025, the defendants changed their plea to guilty following the presentation of amended charges, prompting the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.

While reviewing facts of the case, prosecuting counsel, M.K. Bashir called witness Airende Monday, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He addressed the court on the charges preferred against the defendants. Several documents were tendered and admitted as exhibits.

Delivering judgment, Justice Oshodi stated: “I find the defendants guilty in the two-count amended information, and I convict them accordingly. This is the judgment of the court.”

He sentenced them to eight months’ imprisonment on count one and one year and six months’ imprisonment on count two. Both sentences are to run concurrently. The sentence came with an option of fine of ₦50,000.

The convicts bagged their imprisonment when they were arrested for hacking into the system of a new generation bank and made away with the sum of ₦8,568,090,500 (Eight Billion, Five Hundred and Sixty-Eight Million, Ninety Thousand, Five Hundred Naira). They were charged to court and convicted.

CrimeAnambra Arrests Seven Illegal Revenue Collectors by NaijaCover(op): 8:32pm On Nov 14, 2025
The Anambra State government, through the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, on Friday arrested seven illegal revenue collectors operating in various communities across the state.

The suspects were apprehended at Umueze Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area, Umueri in Anambra East LGA, and Nkpor along Obosi Road in Idemili North LGA.

Nathan Obikwelu, Commander of the AIRS Special Squad, said the arrests followed a tip-off from an unknown source about an incident in Umueri, where individuals allegedly stopped a tricycle operator carrying 18 cartons of fish and demanded N18,000 from him.

Obikwelu identified the suspects as Olisah Monday, Chukwubuike Tony, Nweke Stephen, Nwachukwu Nnamdi, Ugochukwu Umerah, Oluebube Chukwunagolum, and Adakaigbo Onyeka.

He explained: “The suspects were arrested at different locations while trying to extort money from some transport operators. Another set of suspects were arrested while collecting illegal money at a sand mining site at Umueze Anam, even as they picked the last suspects along Nkpor – Obosi road.”

He further commended the state government and AIRS leadership.

“We appreciate the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for all he has done for the agency, and we thank the AIRS Chairman, Dr. Greg Ezeilo, for the provision of logistics for the agency. We warned illegal revenue collectors to desist; as the agency will continue to arrest and prosecute them,” he added.

One of the suspects, Nwachukwu Nnamdi, admitted that they were collecting money but claimed: “We have legal documents we are working with.”

The Anambra State government reiterated its commitment to clamping down on illegal revenue collection and ensuring that only authorised personnel collect government levies.

The Enugu State Police Command has officially confirmed the arraignment of a woman who accused her husband of defiling and raping their two daughters.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday, the woman, Mrs Chisom Okonkwo, had reported the matter to the police but could not prove her allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ndukwe explained that during the police investigation, the couple’s elderly child, in a written statement with video evidence, told the police that their father never committed the offence he was being accused of, and that their mother had coached them to lie against their father.

“The Enugu State Police Command, on October 25, 2025, received a complaint from Okonkwo Chisom (female, aged 29), lodged at the command’s Emene Police Division, alleging that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, had been defiling their two daughters, aged five and three years, and threatening to kill her if she disclosed it,” Ndukwe stated.

However, investigations revealed that the allegations were false and misleading. “Investigations revealed that, contrary to her claims, the periods in 2024 and 2025 during which Chisom alleged the offences occurred were the same times she had travelled alone with all the children to their hometown in Imo State.

“It further showed that, in two separate handwritten voluntary statements, their seven-year-old son exonerated his father and disclosed that their mother had coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father — a fact supported by video evidence,” Ndukwe added.

Okonkwo was arraigned before the Magistrate Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge of defamation and giving false information. The court granted her bail, and the case was adjourned for further hearing, the police spokesperson stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the detectives of the State Intelligence Department for their thorough and impartial investigation of the case.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to fairness, justice, and professionalism in handling all cases, warning that any complainant found to have made false or malicious allegations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Three Police Inspectors Arrested For Alleged Brutal Assault On Colleague’s Son Over Love Affair

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three police inspectors for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old man, Jacob Sunday, into a state of coma at the 22 PMF Barracks, Ogudu.

According to sources available to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday when the officers — Inspector John Alom of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Inspector Sunday Adoga of CTU Base 2 Ikeja, and Inspector Jehovah Usam of 22 PMF Ikeja — allegedly lured the victim into their room.

Jacob, said to be the son of Inspector Sunday Ochepo, was accused of having an affair with Sarah Richard, wife of ASP Audu Richard, who also resides in the barracks.

The victim was reportedly stripped naked and beaten mercilessly until he lost consciousness. He was later rescued by detectives and taken to the Police College Cottage Hospital, Ikeja, where he is currently receiving treatment in the emergency unit.

The three officers have since been arrested and detained as the Command continues its investigation into the incident.
