CrimeMan Killed Over Phone Charger In Anambra by NaijaCover(op): 9:00am On Dec 24, 2025
A Young Man, Identified simply as Chisom, has been killed during an argument over a phone charger in Ihiala, Anambra State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on December 19 following a confrontation between him and his yet-to-be-identified cousin.

According to a post seen on an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Confra Naija, on Tuesday, Chisom had earlier lent his cousin a phone charger.

A disagreement, however, ensued when Chisom went to retrieve the charger, which later degenerated into a violent fight. During the scuffle, the cousin allegedly stabbed Chisom multiple times.

The platform further stated that the suspect’s father, who is Chisom’s uncle, joined in the attack, leading to his eventual death.

The post read: “In Ihiala, an Aye identified as Chisom was killed by his non-cultist cousin over a dispute involving a phone charger.

“Chisom had reportedly lent out the charger to his cousin and later went to collect it, but there was a disagreement, and his cousin stabbed him multiple times during the fight. It was also reported that the cousin’s father (Chisom’s uncle) joined in the attack.”

The platform added that both the uncle and the cousin were later arrested, while youths in the community allegedly set the uncle’s house ablaze.

In a video seen by our correspondent, the remains of the deceased were seen lying on a hospital bed as his relatives wailed over his demise.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful, as calls to his telephone line went unanswered. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to at the time of filing this report.

Disputes between family members have often escalated into fatal violence in parts of the state. These include disagreements over property, money, and other personal issues, frequently ending in bloodshed.

PUNCH Metro reported in September that the Anambra State Police Command arrested one Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, 45, for allegedly stabbing his relative to death over a family land dispute in Umunocha Village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State.

CrimeAnambra Shoe Dealers’ Market Boils As Thugs Brutalize Traders (Video) by NaijaCover(op): 8:36am On Dec 24, 2025
Thugs stormed the Onitsha Shoe Dealers’ Market on Monday, causing chaos in the area.

DAILY POST learnt that several traders were severely brutalized during the attack.

Concerned traders, under the Emordi Shoe Dealers Association, have condemned the invasion, describing it as barbaric.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tOALhRopdc

A video currently in circulation could show some of the traders battered by the thugs allegedly acting under the instruction of a former chairman of the Association, one Nwabueze Umeh.

One of the traders, who spoke under anonymity, alleged that Umeh had been instigating troubles in the market ever since his tenure ended many years ago.

According to him, he fought his immediate successor to a standstill and had continued to unleash the same treatment on the current chairman, Okwudili Anigbogu, whose election was said to have been supervised by the authorities of the Onitsha South LGA

The source said trouble started after Ume claimed that the election had been annulled by Governor Charles Soludo, through the governor’s PA on Markets.

“Meanwhile, there was no formal communication from the government to prove that such an order was given by the governor.

“The next thing we saw was that they stormed the market with thugs and some members of the state security operatives, known as SASA, and started brutalizing our members.

“The thugs, under the supervision of those that brought them, also left with the wares of some of the victims.

“The group has been notorious for arresting and detaining people for days without handing over to the police.

“In this instance, when they came to the market, Nwabueze Umeh prevented people from recording the assault, and confiscated phones belonging to some of the traders. The phones were destroyed there and then.”

When asked what could have led to the developments, the trader said the former chairman was doing everything to block a probe into his land deals when he was in office.

“What happened was that the government gave the traders land for an expansion of the market.

“However, Umeh hijacked the land and started selling the portions off as personal property.

“His successor took the matter to court in order to recover the land; that’s why he has been fighting since then, as the incumbent chairman also vowed to pursue the matter in court,” he further alleged.

The traders appealed to Governor Soludo to intervene in the matter in order to avoid a total breakdown of law and order as well as shedding of blood.

It was also gathered that the incumbent chairman and some others who were brutalized during the invasion are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals in the state.

Efforts by DAILY POST to obtain reaction from Umeh were not successful as of the time of filing this report as he neither answered calls nor responded to text message sent to him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed an eight-count charge against the former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige.

The charge reports revealed that the former Anambra State governor will be arraigned on Friday at the FCT High Court in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

According to the charge dated 31 October and filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Sylvanus Tahir and five other lawyers on behalf of the EFCC, the anti-graft agency alleged that Ngige used his position as a former minister to confer undue advantage by awarding different contracts to his associates and to companies believed to be owned by him.

In Count 1, the former minister, between September 2015 and May 2023, while being the supervising Minister of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), used his position to confer an unfair advantage upon Cezimo Nigeria Limited, a company whose MD/CEO and alter ego, Ezebinwa Amarachukwu Charles, is believed to be his associate.

He allegedly awarded seven different contracts for consultancy, training, and supply by the NSITF to the said company to the tune of N366,470,920.68, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Other companies mentioned in the charge are Zitacom Nigeria Limited, a company whose MD/CEO and alter ego, Ezebinwa Amarachukwu Charles, was awarded eight different contracts for supply, training, and consultancy with the NSITF to the tune of N583,682,686.00; and Jeff & Xris Limited, a company whose MD/CEO and alter ego, Nwosu Jideofor Chukwunwike, also got eight different contracts to the tune of N362,043,163.16.

Others are Olde English Consolidated Limited, a company whose MD/CEO, Uzoma Igbonwa, got the award of four different contracts for consultancy, training, and construction by the NSITF to the tune of N668,138,141.00; and Shale Atlantic Intercontinental Services Limited, a company whose MD/CEO and alter ego, Uzoma Igbonwa, got the award of four different contracts to the tune of N161,604,625.00.

Recall that Chris Ngige was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday night and has since been in the custody of the EFCC.

An elderly man, Ankyambe Hembaor, was hacked to death by his son, Tordue, during a heated financial dispute in the Nyamatsoo Mbagen community of Buruku Local Government Area in Benue State.

A security expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a statement he posted on X on Monday.

According to him, the incident happened on Saturday when the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a machete for refusing to give him money.

He added that residents rushed the victim to Agbecha Hospital in the Nyamatsoo area of the community, where he died while receiving treatment.

“A man has been killed by his son over a financial disagreement in Nyamatsoo Mbagen, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.

“Zagazola reports that the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday when Ankyambe Tordue, allegedly armed with a machete, attacked his father, Ankyambe Hembaor, after he refused to give him money.

“The victim was rushed to Agbecha Hospital, Nyamatsoo, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,” the statement read.

While quoting a police source, he noted that the Divisional Police Officer in Buruku deployed operatives to the scene, documented the incident, and moved the corpse to the hospital mortuary.

He also disclosed that the suspect was said to have fled the community immediately after the attack.

“Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while the State Criminal Investigation Department has commenced a full investigation into the matter,” he added

When contacted on Monday, the state police command spokesperson, Udeme Edet, told our correspondent to send his enquiries via a text message. She had yet to reply to the message as of the time this report was filed.

PUNCH Metro reported in August that suspected armed herders killed four people and destroyed property in many areas of Tombu Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of the state.

CrimeGen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by NaijaCover(op): 7:22am On Nov 29, 2025
A security consultant, Kabiru Adamu, has warned that many young Nigerians expressing support for recent coups in Africa do not understand the realities of military rule.

Adamu gave the warning on Friday while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.

According to him, Nigerians under 30 had not experienced a military dictatorship and may have a wrong impression about the wave of coups across the continent.

For anyone below 30 years old, they may not have experienced that.

“There’s nothing at the moment telling me that the Gen Z in Nigeria understands the consequences of a military dictatorship, because I see them supporting the dictatorship that is taking place in Burkina Faso, in Mali. They see those military juntas as heroes
,” he said.

The security expert said the agitation partly stemmed from narratives amplified on social media, which governments must monitor more deliberately.

Adamu noted that governments worldwide, including Nigeria, should be concerned about the conversations shaping public sentiment.

He said disinformation campaigns were glorifying coup leaders online, creating a dangerous influence among young Nigerians.

“The other consequence not always spoken about is what happens on social media. All of a sudden, you see disinformation and misinformation portraying these military leaders as superheroes.

“They then gain followership within countries where democracy still thrives, unfortunately, including Nigeria. So yes, it is disturbing,” Adamu added.
