Health / Generator Fumes Kill 7 Friends Inside Studio In Bayelsa by NaijaCover(m): 10:05pm On May 21
Residents of Ebi’s Mechanic Road, Amarata area in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were on Tuesday thrown into mourning after the decomposing bodies of seven friends were found in a music studio apartment.

The tragic incident, suspected to have been caused by generator fumes in the studio owned by one of the deceased, identified as Akpos Barakubo, occurred after their studio session, and they decided to have a little rest in the apartment.

DAILY POST gathered that six bodies were later discovered dead in the morning while one who was unconscious and rushed to the hospital later died.

According to the residents of the area, the crew members in the studio were working into the night using their generating set due to poor power supply in the state and may have fallen asleep and forgot to switch off the generator.

It was also gathered that most of the deceased are undergraduate students from the Niger Delta University, NDU, who are into the recording business to help themselves in school.

A resident of the area, Mr Damion Asamonye, blamed the state and federal governments as well as the power distribution company for the death of the people, saying if there was adequate power supply, there wouldn’t have been any need for a generator at night.

He lamented the situation in Bayelsa State where Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, only supplies light when bills are shared.

He said: “Both the federal and state governments have failed us, if there was a public power supply, maybe these people wouldn’t have lost their lives in these circumstances.

“Seven able-bodied young men just died like that because of the failure of government, The most annoying thing is that tomorrow, the PHED personnel will come with a ladder to disconnect light that they are not supplying, how can people be spending their money in fueling generators despite the current hardship in Nigeria, even after paying for light bills.?

Another resident in the area, Mrs Joy Reuben, said the whole neighbourhood woke up on Tuesday morning to witness the tragic incident, calling on the government to ensure that there is adequate power supply in the state so that citizens will not be allowed to die in such circumstances again.

When contacted, the police spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Muhammed, promised to call back with more details but did not pick his calls afterwards.

As of the time of filing the report, security operatives have cordoned off the area while the corpses have been evacuated to the mortuary.

Crime / Police Begin Investigation Of Chinese Manager Who Pushed Abia Lady To Death by NaijaCover(m): 9:42pm On May 21
There is tension in Umuahala and Umuorie villages of Asa in Ukwa West LGA following the death of Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi, who was allegedly pushed down from a crane by a Chinese, Mr G.Z. Zhen.

Zhen, who is the manager of Inner Galaxy, a steel manufacturing company, was alleged to have pushed Munachi from a crane at the company, resulting in her death.

The reason for the violent action of the Chinese manager has not been established so far but youths and elders of Umuahala, where the victim hailed from, are accusing foreigners working in the Inner Galaxy of subjecting Nigerian staff to slave labour and other inhumane treatments.

Apart from this, the company was accused by the youths of paying peanuts as salaries to staff even after working overtime.

The news of the death of the female staff made the host communities boil in anger as youths stormed the company on Monday in search of the Chinese manager.

However, armed security personnel guarding the factory formed a barricade around the facility to prevent the angry crowd from causing any destruction.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the report of the incident had been received by the police.

” We got a report alleging that Mr G.Z. Zhen through his actions, led to the death of one of his staff, Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi. An investigation is ongoing, ” said ASP Chinaka.

A Nigerian Woman, Margaret Oyibo Atayi, has allegedly committed suicide over her failed marriage.

The mother of two from Ugbokolo Local Government Area of Benue State was found dead three days after she was declared missing by her family members.

She was last seen around City College Of Education, Abacha road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State at about 3am on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Since then, all efforts to locate her whereabouts proved abortive until her sister, Ochanya Chelle, confirmed that she was found dead on Monday, May 20.

According to her father, Mr. Patrick Atayi, she committed suicide after falling into depression due to her marital crisis.

Margaret was a mother of two children. She has been in depression for some time now due to mistreatment by her husband," he explained.

She went out on that fateful Friday morning by 3am without the knowledge of anybody. Her body was discovered in the late hours of Monday, and every available evidence confirmed that she committed suicide.”

A close source who confirmed the incident to Idoma Voice Newspaper said; “This is very unfortunate. In an effort to search for her, I reached out to her father and discovered that she was a mother of two children and that she went into depression for some time, which led to her going out that Friday night at 3 am without anyone’s knowledge, resulting in this unfortunate incident. Please, no one should die in silence, no matter the situation you find yourself in. Please speak out; you could be helped and overcome it. Nothing is worth taking your life for or dying for. Above all, embrace God and enjoy the peace of God."
