Crime › 29-Year-Old Blessing Moshood Murdered, Dumped In Abuja Canal by NaijaCover(op): 11:51am On May 25 |
A 29-Year-Old Sociology graduate of the Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, was allegedly murdered last Thursday night and her body dumped in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja.
Speaking with Abuja Metro yesterday, a sister of the deceased, Abigail Moshood, said Blessing left their home around 8pm that day after speaking with someone on the phone.
She said the deceased later called about an hour afterwards, saying she would return home briefly to pick up her phone charger, which she had forgotten.
Abigail said the family became worried after they did not hear from Blessing again and she failed to return home the following day.
“We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the type of hairstyle the deceased had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.
“My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”
Abigail said she later visited the Jikwoyi Police Station to inquire about the incident and was shown photographs of the deceased, which confirmed it was her sister.
A neighbour, Margaret, described the late Blessing as an intelligent and friendly person.
“I learnt she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology, and whenever she spoke, you could hardly fault her English,” she said.
“She was also very friendly in this neighbourhood and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially the children who have been crying since they learnt of her death.”
Another neighbour, Abdullahi Musa, appealed to the police to deploy crack detectives to areas around Jikwoyi Medical Centre to apprehend criminals involved in phone snatching and related crimes.
At the Jikwoyi Police Station, a police officer who pleaded anonymity said the case was under investigation. The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing. Crime › Police Arrest Officer Newton Isokpehi Who Threatened To Kill Anyone Filming Him by NaijaCover(op): 10:30pm On May 21 |
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the officer who went viral on social media after threatening to shoot dead anyone who recorded him while on duty, confirming his identity and announcing the activation of internal disciplinary proceedings against him.
The command, in a press statement signed and released by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Ngozi Ezeabata, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, on Thursday identified the officer as Assistant Superintendent of Police Newton Isokpehi, attached to the Anambra State Command.
Isokpehi had on Wednesday triggered widespread public outrage after a video of him surfaced on social media in which he threatened to “clear everybody down”, including bystanders, if anyone filmed him while on duty.
Speaking in Pidgin English and addressing the camera directly, he also vowed to ensure that any superior officer who sanctioned the filming of officers buried the citizens he vowed to kill.
The video spread rapidly on X and Instagram before being deleted from his TikTok page. He subsequently posted a second video apologising and describing his earlier remarks as made out of frustration.
The statement revealed that the command had moved swiftly upon sighting the video.
“Following a prompt review of the video, the Command immediately identified and arrested the officer involved. The officer is an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Newton Isokpehi, serving in the Command.
“In line with the disciplinary standards and ethical code of the Nigeria Police Force, internal disciplinary proceedings have since been activated against the officer,” the statement read.
The command also disclosed that Isokpehi had been subjected to a drug test as part of efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, the officer has also been subjected to a drug test to aid the Command in establishing all surrounding circumstances and ensuring a thorough and transparent process,” it stated.
Orutugu strongly condemned the officer’s conduct, describing it as incompatible with the values of the force and a threat to public confidence in the institution.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the conduct displayed by the officer in the video and reiterates that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined institution that will not condone misconduct, abuse of office, incitement, or any form of unprofessional behaviour capable of undermining public trust and confidence,” the statement read.
On the outcome of the disciplinary process, the command gave a firm assurance that justice would be served openly.
“The Anambra State Police Command further assures Ndi Anambra and the general public that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be made public and that any officer found culpable will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law and police regulations,” it said.
The command also used the statement to issue a direct reminder to officers on the standards expected of them while on duty.
“The Command also uses this opportunity to remind officers and men of the Command to remain professional, emotionally balanced, and respectful while carrying out their lawful duties, especially in this era where actions and conduct are constantly subjected to public scrutiny,” it stated.
It praised members of the public and civil society groups for their role in bringing the video to wider attention, describing their intervention as a contribution to police accountability.
“The Command appreciates members of the public, civil society groups, and social media users who continue to assist the Police with credible information capable of improving service delivery and accountability.
“Residents are encouraged to continue reporting incidents or behaviours capable of undermining public peace, safety, and confidence in security agencies,” the statement read. Crime › Newton Isokpehi: Forgive Me -Policeman Who Threatened To Kill Anyone Filming Him by NaijaCover(op): 11:37am On May 21 |
Forgive me, police officer who threatened to kill anyone filming him on duty apologises Newton Isokpehi, the police officer who went viral on Wednesday after threatening to shoot dead anyone who recorded him on duty, has apologised.
He said his earlier remarks were made out of frustration and did not reflect his true intentions.
In a follow-up video posted on his TikTok page on Thursday, Isokpehi, who spoke in Pidgin English, addressed rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, one of those who had amplified his earlier threat, and pleaded for public forgiveness.
Our correspondent translated his remarks into standard English.
“Please forgive me. If I offended you as a brother, forgive me. That statement was just out of annoyance because of the things that are happening. These things are painful,” he said.
He insisted that his original video had been misunderstood, clarifying that he did not oppose members of the public filming police officers in principle.
“Actually, you can video us. You are allowed to video a policeman. But it’s not right for just anybody to come from anywhere and start videoing officers on duty. They have taken it too far,” he said.
Isokpehi, who said he is from Edo State and grew up in the barracks in Kaduna, described himself as a dedicated officer with a proven record of service.
“Anywhere people ask about me, people will testify to my character. I have worked in the Mobile Police for 12 years. I have worked for my fatherland with all my heart,” he said.
He again displayed his gunshot injuries, this time in greater detail, as he sought to convey the toll of his years in active service.
“Look at my body, these are all bullets. These are all gunshot wounds. See my chest, bullet has eaten into it. Out of 17 of us, only two survived that operation.
“We have suffered in this work. So it was out of annoyance. We don’t even like complaining,” he said
On his original threat to kill anyone who filmed him, he was categorical.
“How can I be saying I will kill my own people? We don’t do that. I spoke out of annoyance. That one was just verbal talk,” he said.
He appealed to Gwamnishu directly, acknowledging the video had travelled further than he anticipated.
“Harrison, forgive me. I beg the whole of Nigeria, please forgive me. This one has reached too far. If you want to know me, come and meet me one-on-one. You will know me personally. I will not run. I will not surrender,” he said.
Isokpehi closed with a message of goodwill, expressing hope that conditions for police officers would improve under the current Inspector General of Police.
“We have decided that we will die for our fatherland. One day, things will surely get better by the grace of God. One love to the world,” he said.
His original video, in which he threatened to “clear everybody down” including bystanders near anyone filming him, had gone viral earlier on Wednesday after being shared on X and Instagram.

Nigerian social media personality, Linus Williams, also known as Blord, has shared details of his stay at the Kuje Correctional Centre, describing parts of the facility as comfortable and organised.
Blord made the remarks during a recent interview shared online, where he revealed the VIP treatment he got while in the facility.
The social media personality, who recently had a clash with Martins Vincent Otse, widely called Verydarkman, VDM also compared the environment at the facility to special sections of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC orientation camp.
According to him, there are special sections within the correctional centre reserved for high-profile individuals.
“Kuje looks like NYSC camp. Inside the camp they have VIP sections and that was where I was kept,” he said.
Blord further claimed that the section where he stayed had several home appliances and other facilities.
“It was like a vacation. I sleep, wake up and eat. I even had a chef,” he stated.
Blord also compared his experience with that of VeryDarkMan, alleging that his experience at the facility was different.
According to Blord, inmates at the correctional centre welcomed him warmly during his stay.
