Anambra security agency, Agunechemba has come under criticisms, following the video of a keke rider being brutalized by its operatives in Awka.

According to a video posted by a Facebook user, Amaka Nwada Ebenebe, the incident happened at Y Junction, Okpuno, because the rider refused to part with N200 to the operatives as a bribe.

She said: “Because this boy did not give them 200 naira that’s why they are beating him like this.

“This is a country where security is now hurting the masses because of peanuts. So bad, my eye saw hell today. It is a pity we had to find ourselves in this kind of situation. May God help us.”

She insisted she was present when the incident happened, and was even captured in the video as she tried to plead with the operatives to forgive the rider.

This would not be the first time Agunechemba is caught in the web of brutalization of citizens.

Last year, they came under intense criticism for brutalizing a female corps member, to the point of stripping her naked, claiming they were looking for Yahoo boys in the corpers lodge.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state security agency, Mr Nweke Nweke, when contacted, stated that the video was old and posted to create mischief.

He said: “That is an old video. We have even reacted to it before. I remember making a press release about it then, and those men you see in the video were sanctioned then.”

Checks by DAILY POST, however, showed that the video was posted on Sunday morning by Amaka, who claimed to have witnessed the incident.

Actor James Van Der Beek, best known for his starring role in the US teen drama Dawson’s Creek, has died aged 48 after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” his family said in a statement posted to his social media accounts. “He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.”

The star was diagnosed with the disease in the latter half of 2023 but only revealed the news in November 2024.

The father of six starred in multiple popular shows and films in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the cult classic Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues.

In an interview with Business Insider, he revealed he started experiencing changes in his bowel movements, a common symptom of bowel cancer. He stopped drinking coffee to see whether that would help before having a screening test.

That revealed he had stage three of the disease, which meant it had spread to nearby lymph nodes.

Van Der Beek said his “lowest point” in treatment was feeling like he was losing core parts of his identity.

Van Der Beek was one of the most famous faces on TV in the late 1990s and 2000s, starring as Dawson Leery alongside Katie Holmes in the hit TV show Dawson’s Creek, which ran from 1998 to 2003.

He also starred in the 1999 coming-of-age film Varsity Blues.

He also played a fictionalised version of himself in the cult television show Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, and he performed on the 28th US season of Dancing with the Stars.

Van Der Beek continued working through his diagnosis.

Earlier this year, he guest-starred in Prime Video’s college comedy, Overcompensating.

Van Der Beek made a surprise virtual appearance at a Dawson’s Creek reunion charity event on 22 September, having been forced to pull out of the live event due to having two stomach viruses.

The reunion saw the likes of Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Busy Philipps performing a live table reading of the show’s 1998 pilot episode, joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who stood in for Van Der Beek.

The event raised funds for charity F Cancer and was also a tribute to their castmate.

A yet-to-be identified husband has lost his life in an accident which occurred on the Lekki-Epe expressway in Lagos.

The wife, who was seated next to her husband survived but sustained injuries in the accident which occurred on Thursday morning.

The accident involved a truck conveying granite and a Toyota car.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck which was heading towards Lekki from Epe, lost control as a result of brake failure and crashed into the Toyota.

The husband was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, who had life threatening injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident, saying that the accident occurred on Thursday morning at EKEKO Junction along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway.

Bakare-Oki disclosed that the accident claimed the life of a male motorist and left his spouse critically injured.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that an articulated truck, heavily ladened with granite and travelling at a very high speed from the Epe axis, was approaching Eleko Junction when it reportedly experienced a brake malfunction. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the truck to veer off its track and collide forcefully with a Toyota saloon car travelling from Ajah inward Epe.

“The impact resulted in the truck toppling over the Toyota, crushing it beneath its weight. The Toyota saloon car became entrapped under the truck. It took the timely intervention of LASTMA personnel and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with public-spirited bystanders, to extricate the victims from the debris. Tragically, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, seated in the front passenger position, sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately rescued for urgent medical attention” he said.

He explained further that the remains of the deceased and his critically injured spouse were evacuated from the accident scene by an ambulance service deployed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for requisite medical and mortuary procedures.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-Year-Old woman, identified as Mary Ibekwe, for allegedly stabbing her younger sister, Favour Uka, to death during a domestic dispute in the Agege area of the State.

A security consultant and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the arrest on Thursday via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

Makama, quoting police sources, said the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 8:20 p.m. at No. 22 Anikulapo Street, Pen Cinema, Agege.

“According to the source, one Ikechukwu Uka reported that two sisters, Mary Ibekwe, 30, and Favour Uka, 18, had a disagreement which degenerated into a physical fight,” Makama stated.

He added that “in the course of the altercation, Mary Ibekwe allegedly stabbed her younger sister with a knife on the left side of her chest.”

Police sources revealed that the victim was immediately rescued and rushed to Blue Cross Hospital, Ogba, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“A team of detectives visited the scene as well as the hospital, where the corpse was inspected and photographed,” the source said.

The body was later evacuated and deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, for autopsy.

“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing,” the source added.

The Lagos State Police Command assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
