A 56-Year-old former boxer, Moses Olapade, has been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly beating his wife, Tinuke, to coma for refusing to hand over a television remote to him.

According to reports, the incident occurred at their residence, No. 9, Odama street in Oke-Aro Community in Akure.

It was gathered that Olopade, a truck driver who plies the Northern part of the country, returned home from a journey on the fateful day and wanted to watch a programme on the television.

He was said to have asked his 44-year-old wife to hand over the TV remote to him but she refused.

Olopade, out of anger, rained punches on the wife until she fell down and became unconscious.

It took the intervention of neighbours to rescue the woman from her husband after their children ran out screaming for help.

When the neighbours burst into the house to rescue the woman, they found her lying unconscious on the floor and quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital.

The matter was reported to leaders of the community, who called the police and the retired boxer was arrested.

A Young Man, Ogunleye Gbenga Moses, who recently graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, (AAUA), has been found dead inside his room in an off campus hostel.

According to The Tribune, Gbenga, popularly known as Pablo allegedly died of suspected food poisoning on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

The deceased was said to be waiting for the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) call-up letter.

Sources told the publication that Gbenga and his girlfriend complained of food poisoning after eating at an undisclosed restaurant in Akungba on Friday, May 5. They were treated at Aduloju Hospital in Iwaro and discharged.

“Gbenga and his girlfriend complained of food poisoning after returning from an unknown restaurant. They went to the hospital where they were both treated for typhoid. After the deceased was discharged yesterday, we were made to understand that his girlfriend's health was critical, and was just discharged this morning (Saturday)," a source narrated.

The source said Gbenga was found dead inside his room after they broke into his room when he was not seen in the morning.

“The moment we noticed he was not responding to calls and knocked on his door, we barged into his room through his window around 11:00am, when we noticed he did not open his door. He is a lovely and entertaining person. Yesterday, we were made to understand that his girlfriend’s health was critical, and was just discharged," the source added.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, informed that Gbenga was not the first person to complain about food poisoning, adding that a few weeks ago, it took God’s intervention to save a student who ate poison in an undisclosed restaurant.

Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Olusegun Akanbi, who confirmed Gbenga’s death, said;

“The Head of the Department of Philosophy just called me and it was discovered that he passed on this morning, and his parents had already come.” Akanbi said.

Spokesman for the institution, Victor Akinpelumi, said an investigative team has been set up by the institution to unravel true situation about the incident.

Operatives of the Adamawa State Police command have arrested a man, Aminu Abubakar, for allegedly beating his wife to death over an alleged plan to leave for another man.

Abubakar, a resident of Lelewaji community in Shagari Phase 2 Estate, Yola South Local Government Area, is charged with subduing the wife, Nana Fadimatu, and giving her the fatal beating after he heard that the wife was going to marry another man the next day.

A statement from the Police headquarters in Yola on Sunday stressed that the 56-year-old Abubakar was arrested for beating Nana Fadimatu, 38, “over information she is going to marry another man.”

Signed by Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the statement said the suspect “furiously engaged” the deceased on Friday, May 5, about 10 pm.

The statement said Abubakar “applied force on her by hitting her with a hard object, as a result of which she fell unconscious and was later announced dead.”

The statement revealed that the suspect was apprehended by the Police of the Shagari Divisional Headquarters after a report received from Nana Fadimatu’s intended new husband, Mahmud Rufai of neighbouring Shagari Annex, Yola South.

“Investigation so far reveals that the suspect, being a Manager of Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing Estate, had one child with the deceased after nine years of their marriage,” the police statement said.

It added that the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, while expressing Shock over the incident, had deployed officers from an anti-homicide unit attached to State CID to take over the investigation and to ensure that the law takes its course.
