Also, In the Nigerian political history, right from the civil war days till the NCNC vs NPC era, No state or tribe has rejected the Igbo alliance as much as the people of Bayelsa, but the Igbo loved Jonathan and stood by Jonathan -- a scion of Bayelsa state and an undiluted Ijaw man-- till the end.

History has vindicated that the political decisions of the Igbo man have always been geared towards Nationalistic considerations rather than ulterior selfish tribalistic motives.

It doesnt matter to an Igbo man of today, if an Osibanjo presidency would postpone the chances of an Igbo Presidency till 2050, we dont care. We just want a sensible and humane president who would not shove his balls into our face, laughing while we choke and gasp for air. We just want someone who would be humane enough to effect the restructuring of Nigeria or tell the 'useless' troublesome Igbo to go and form their own BIAFRA. You would agree with me that Jonathan, made a move towards this, by calling for a National conference.

I want to assure my unborn son that with hard work he can aspire to any office in the land. I don't know what you want to assure your young daughter. But what I really know, is that Igbo Presidency is not the answer to Nigeria's malaise, or would you wish, say, a Joe Igbokwe Igbo presidency on Nigeria?

More than 1,000 people have died in an outbreak of meningitis in Nigeria, the Centre for Disease Control said Thursday, but added that the spread of the disease is slowing.

The outbreak has mostly affected children in Africa's most populous country.

As of May 9, a total of 13,420 suspected cases had been reported in 23 states with 1,069 deaths, giving a fatality ratio of eight per cent, the CDC said in a statement.


The northern states of Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kebbi, which were the worst affected, have all seen a drop in the number of cases.
Two others which were also badly hit -- Kebbi and Niger -- recorded no deaths, the CDC said.

A new strain of meningitis C was first reported in Zamfara last November and spread to 22 other states in northern Nigeria. A mass vaccination programme was started to limit its spread.

The CDC said a new batch of vaccines was expected to arrive in the next few days.

Meningitis is caused by different types of bacteria, six of which can cause epidemics. It is transmitted between people through coughs and sneezes, close contact and cramped living conditions.

The illness causes acute inflammation of the outer layers of the brain and spinal cord, with the most common symptoms being fever, headache and neck stiffness.

Nigeria lies in the so-called "meningitis belt" of sub-Saharan Africa, stretching from Senegal in the west to Ethiopia in the east, where outbreaks of the disease are a regular occurrence.

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that Lagos State is not part of Yoruba land.

Akiolu’s statement is coming barely a week after he publicly humiliated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.

In a statement from Akiolu’s palace, the monarch traced the historical background of the state and why it should not be regarded as part of Yoruba land.

The statement reads: “Coming from the palace, with what I was told by my late paternal grandmother who is a descendant of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi and also reading from factual Historical books, let me share this Knowledge with you all on Eko/Lagos.

“Modern day Lagos was founded by Prince Ado, the son of the Oba of Benin, Prince Ado was the first Oba of Lagos, the son of the Bini King, Prince Ado, named the town Eko until the Portuguese explorer Ruy de Segueira changed the Maritime town to Lagos, which at that time from 1942 was Portuguese expedition center down the African Coast.



“It was a major centre of the slave trade until 1851. Lagos was annexed by Britain via the Lagos treaty of cession in 1861, ending the consular period and starting the British Colonial Period. The remainder of modern day Nigeria was seized in 1886 when the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria was established in 1914 Lagos was declared its capital due to the struggle of the Bini King.

“Lagos experienced growth prior to the British Colonial rule and even more rapid growth during the Colonial rule throughout the 1960s, 70s, continued through the 80s and 90s till date.
