Why can’t the Nigerian men marry foreigners? Problem solved: marry whom is domiciled where you are. The messiah complex is the problem, you are looking for who to save and who will worship you. Marry where you are, or the messiah complex is not endearing to women (all races) abroad? The Nigerian woman who has nothing going for her becomes appealing. She becomes perceived as the most rewarding to ‘save’ |
This story is similar to someone I know. Pls don’t marry him oh. The guy is jobless with no foresight because of his egocentric nature. Friends and family wants to help him but he keeps saying he can do it all alone. Run as fast as your leg can carry. Even this person will not do house chores and take care of the baby. You will slave alone. The only thing he knows how to do is speak grammar which I am sure will translate to good love and sweet notes. Na suffer head for the woman who will eventually marry him. Can you believe he can’t clean or cook in his father’s house where he currently stays. If it is this person, pls stay away, he needs to fix himself. |
Fabu... any scientific backing? |
Some Men are clowns. An 18 months old baby should not be feeding on baby food all the time. Fiber-rich food (solid or in whatever way) for easy bowel movement is the most important. Whole milk twice a day is fine, not even as major meals just drinks or snacks. |
Students from other schools have gotten the awards in the past right? . Congrats to her. Get you facts right about pressid, Convenant was significantly represented like most federal universities but did not dominate. There were still more unilag, UI and OAU students in pressid.. I see Convenant dominating academically in future if they collaborate more on global research. Convenant has great prospects. In US at present Harvard,MIT, Caltech, Stanford are higher in ranking than the top public universities. Convenant is on that route... barojana: |
All the Nigerian players are defenders |
Different strokes for different folks.. Here I am, wanting to split bills with my husband! but 'cos of deep rooted African beliefs he said no...same company, same pay!.. My work is even more time consuming, so he has no choice but to do domestic duties (no house maid abroad).. I am jejely waiting for him to ask what I am doing with my money. |
I have laughed so much today! Nigerian doctors can be ignorant sha! I know researchers (scientists and engineers) who receive so much grants for medical research without a medical degree or visiting the four walls of a hospital or interfacing with patients. The world is evolving and everyone has a role to play! I read a funny thread previously where doctors where asking other health professionals if they could use certain equipment or not. A young Physics professor will build medical diagnostics devices based on acoustic waves and Nigerian doctors should know anyone would be able to use it if trained properly (So, doctors are somewhat like technicians in other people's world). So please shift abeg, the world does not revolve round you. Advancement of human race is in all fields, arts and social science included. |
Nigeria is a mess,... Everyone has his or her own role to play! No one should lord over the other. Pay parity should exist but everyone is important. As a Nigerian youth, reading about comment from Nigerian doctors here is so hilarious. It takes a hospital 'community' to ensure operations. Don't belittle anyone. I am presently in an 100% Engineering school, I have seen medical doctors/biochemists/bioengineers/medical and device engineers/materials scientists,..(any science inclined field you can think of) working together to propel ground breaking research to promote human lives.. Everyone is important for progress. I am amazed at the reasoning of the obviously young Nigerian doctors on this forum!... Ignorance .... O ma she oh! |
This one is funny....the little 16 year old me heard my roommate's speaking in tougues in my first year at the university several times..it was cool and for a while I could say exactly what she was always saying in our room which was on the third floor. About 2 years after, I was in a room close to an open field, I heard someone speaking in tongues and I told my new roommates that it was my old roommate from way back, they were shocked (we later confirmed). Can tongues be the same in a 3 year period? I am still confused |
Primary school (best) - said he wanted to be a footballer, though he went to Sec school, last time I was in touch with him, I don't think he really advanced that much, he was working as somewhat an admin guy in a company (he was not proud about it) (second best)-civil Engineer, I don't know what she does (third best) - Business administration graduate (hit by the unemployment in the country) Secondary school, there were several bests (I will just mention 3) 1- Mech. Engin graduate with a good paying job, 2- Double degrees - Medicine and Pharmacy, 3-Me Graduate student in US and several in the banking sector! University (2 bests): Graduate students in US A lot of people from secondary school eventually did very well for themselves. Just pursue your passion, but unemployment remains a big issue in Nigeria |
The issue of the kidnapped girls remains a mystery to be unraveled, who is aware of the negotiation terms? can we ever be transparent in our country? |
In recent times, on almost every issue, Nlanders are ethnically and religiously divided. I fear for the present generation, we need to see beyond this divide. |
taoheedoriloye:@ Mr Taoheed, we Africans are way too quick to say western orientation on every issue, Let's start from western technologies (okay that's science, but slightly think of this medium of conversation), to good labour laws accounting for humanity approach of workers not being treated as slave - that's the field of humanities [that was an evolution my brother, you can start reading from the abolishment of slave trade],...we are slightly getting there) and down to democracy [it's possible we would have still being subjugated to families, having complete dominance over a group of people, because they were fortunate to be part of a family, - that's a social issue].. I respect the traditional rulers but the power they once had is incomparable to today world. Sorry about my ramblings, what is important to what I am saying is people advocated for change because they believed things were not right and could be better, statusquo is usually not always right, our children will question us. |
barakah:I am not getting your point. Please clarify. If polygamy brings out the best in women in marriages, what is the check for the male folks (I never knew there is a omniperfect gene which is just in the male gender). There is nothing as good as being true to oneself and mutual respect and understanding, not only in marriages but also in life relationships, I am sure you've had clashes with siblings before, you've heard of individual differences, terms like tolerance and patience... Please sir,..what's the religious reason in your post again..I think you have lost that point. |
taoheedoriloye:Sorry, what are your religious reasons? and I never knew men's sole purpose on earth is to take care on the uneven gender population (quote statistics bro). |
FortuneTeller:Everyday I look out for the beauty of Islam in the most logical way. Not just Islam anyway (all forms of my social identity, female, African etc), I have a diverse upbringing but decided to go with Islam because I find peace in certain points, but I wonder why people dwell or stick to doctrines that dampens the spirit. People are achieving technological feats around the world (impacting humanity positively), we are looking for/stuck with a system (all world religions) that is not entirely logical. Let's believe in reciprocity. I am human, you are human too |
I am a muslim and I perceive life from different view points, most importantly, I call myself a learning student of life. Depression as a result of polygamy is real. Not only relating to polygamy, also all form of relationships: if you intend to make me an option and expect me to make you a priority, you are joking. If I can give you my 100%, you should be able to give me your all too. By the time it's tending towards fractional, I will take a dive. I have tasted depression in the past, I know what it is like and everything I do now is channeled towards MY HAPPINESS. Men and women have sexual urges and that is not a justification for polygamy. This point sucks though because ''what were you doing before you got married''. I can still understand the point of who will take care (especially emotionally, financially) of widows and children whose husbands died during battles. You see my people, there is just a thin line between runs babe whose sexual escapades are for monetary yield, a young lady whose life conquest is about getting married to a rich guy, and I am sorry to say 'people' who have to be taken care of... (the emotional tag comes in later as we all know). Sorry for derailing the topic OP, but I go with the first comment. Try a medical approach to understand if an underlying issue exists, and you can look beyond Nigeria for alternative solutions. |
OP, you are just like me. I can save for Africa. God help me, I look for good deals to buy things whenever I want to buy. |
Mine is very funny. Till date my first crush does not know. It was during my senior secondary school days, I lent a friend in another class my textbook, but I could not go to her classroom to collect the book because my crush was in my friend's class and sits close. There was no way I could enter the class without meeting with him. The sad part was that I really needed the book in my class. I shared with someone eventually. I think I got over my crush before leaving school. We never spoke. But he fell for one of my friends.. Hmn! |
I remember asking my dad who I would marry, thinking that I had to marry at age 5. I later suggested a family friend who was the same age. |
Yes, very well...and I was glad I did. I was young and very naive and scared of relationships, tough I didn't go the insulting them route, I practically said no and stood by it. I was younger than my peers while at the University and during my first job after school. I later accepted 1 around the period I left my first job (I was older), and alas the guy turned out not to be worth it ![]() At least my life is void of heartbreaks...but I still feel I lost some good guyz... |
Patriarchal system at work. Mwetchew.... test of being able to dominate..I pity all the guys wey dey think like this. A perfect example of how you want your daughter to be..docile . Fornication remains a no no.. but abeg women please say no to humiliation. |
This is a typical case of Olajumoke the bread hawker and Ayodele the first class student in analogy to the Nairaland debate and Miss Nairaland. I just hope the winning debaters will be well compensated in future. |
OP PM me. I had similar experience. |
Please and please OP, if you are sure of your full tuition and living expense coverage, please contact the finance office of the school and you would be told on how to procure loans before your pay check starts coming in. The only thing you need to do is for you to resume school. It's a general thing in US, especially if your pay check is also coming from the school. It's a standard procedure for the first 1- 2 months. Please don't resume too early oh at least to save cost |

It just crossed my mind that there is a possibility she eloped because she was pregnant. Thank God mother and baby is safe. What would have happened if she did not elope, maybe abortion or .......... |
I was banned from playing hide and seek with cousins and neighbours after being reported to the elders several times. I was usually lazy to search for people's hideout whenever I am seeker, so I'll just go upstairs and leave people hiding. And whenever I am not the seeker, the seeker must surely see me first. I just hated it cos people hid at ridiculous places, imagine in empty tanks and under the bed in another compound.. |
Funny OP. For me at a wedding that I am well known, I simply approach the person in charge of the food who is likely to be a family member and I request to serve everyone on my table. This I have done twice. The third one, I was specifically called to serve uncles and aunties. But this can only happen if you are a well known cousin sitting with other cousins and probably among the youngest of the cousins. And either the bride or groom is a cousin too...lol. |
Let's start cultivating tomatoes in the southern part of the country. Not just tomatoes now. Nigerian graduates should venture into agriculture. The truth is there is no job out there. We will be able to feed ourselves and still have money in our pockets and the banks. LET'S ALL GO TO THE FARM!!! |
