Politics / I Am Coming Back To Nigeria - Sunday Igboho by nairalandankrah: 8:48am On Jun 26, 2022
KAYODE OYERO writes about his encounter with the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, at his residence in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin.

Believed to possess metaphysical powers by his ardent followers, Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, cheerily opened the door to welcome our correspondent to his private residence in Cotonou, the capital of Benin Republic on Friday, June 24, 2022.

It was 9pm West African time and 49-year-old Igboho wore black pyjamas with a singlet which rested comfortably on his square-shaped shoulders. He beamed with his signature smiles as he welcomed his guests including our correspondent; and his comrades in the self-determination struggle– Prof Banji Akintoye, Prof Wale Adeniran, and Mr Maxwell Adeleye, all members of the Ilana Omo Oodua group.

He genuflected as he greeted Akintoye; the 87-year-old leader of the Yoruba self-determination struggle and his deputy, Adeniran. Then, one after the other, he also recognised others within and below his age range. Igboho’s ebullience filled the expansive and well-lit room. His joy was akin to that of a hermit welcoming visitors.

“Oosa!” somebody hailed but the Yoruba Nation agitator maintained his animated smile. His clear cheeks bore his fading facial marks.

“Please sit,” Igboho said in Yoruba language. It was his first time to speak since his guests arrived and excused himself to one of the rooms. During his momentary absence, our correspondent’s eyeballs roved the white-painted room, hoping to pick the sight of a charm hung or tucked somewhere. But the weary sights landed on the trappings and furniture in the room– lemon and aluminium-coloured leather sofas, a large centre table sitting on a rug on the tiled floor, a television showing a movie, and white curtains draped over the walls. Nothing was unusual. It’s a typical average home.

While he was away, many questions rioted in our correspondent’s head and mind simultaneously; to ask him his views on multifarious issues ranging from political, sociological to metaphysical, especially how he escaped the midnight raid by operatives of the Department of State Services on July 1, 2021 at his Soka, Ibadan residence in Oyo State and how he was arrested by the Interpol at Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic around 8pm on July 19, 2021. Did he really turn into a cat as widely speculated? These questions including his experience in prison custody in Cotonou for eight months, life as a free man, among others engaged my mind.

Igboho later emerged from one of the rooms about five minutes later, dressed in a brown top with vertical lines. He sat in one of the three-seaters beside Akintoye, and watched the television for some minutes before he started a conversation.

From 09:05pm to 11:45pm, Igboho hosted his guests and regaled them with stories of his engaging encounters with politicians, security agencies and touts.

“I am going back to Nigeria soon,” he said around 10pm after a long silence. continue reading.....

Politics / Tinubu Blocking Igbos From Obtaining PVC'S In Lagos. - PDP by nairalandankrah: 7:41am On Jun 26, 2022
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to scuttle citizens’ desire to obtain voter’s card

A statement at the weekend by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary said APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu was afraid of the popularity of PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

The spokesman said the ruling party was particularly “preventing people of the South-East” from collecting their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC).

He alleged that it was part of APC’s “desperate design to use violence to sabotage credible elections in 2023 having realized that Nigerians have rejected Asiwaju Tinubu”.

The PDP said Tinubu “has been in morbid fear of the soaring popularity of Atiku Abubakar” and was trying to stop more Nigerians from obtaining their PVCs.

Ologunagba noted that the ruling government pretends to have the support of the people but has been “chasing away prospective voters”.

The APC, he insisted, is suffering from “Pre-Election Fever Syndrome” in trepidation that it cannot win in a transparent process.

The party recalled how vocal APC supporters, in previous elections, threatened to throw the Igbos into the Lagoon if they voted for any other platform.

“Violence was unleashed on Nigerians in the Isolo axis of Lagos in the 2019 general elections, where the APC, discovered that it had been rejected at the polls,’ he said.

The PDP told Tinubu and the APC that they cannot suppress Nigerians ready to “take back their country from the stranglehold of the corrupt, incompetent, inhumane and rudderless APC”.

The statement cautioned the former Lagos Governor and his party to “thread carefully and reign in their thugs, hoodlums and terrorists as they will be firmly resisted by Nigerians”.

Politics / Peter Obi Is Not qualified To Rule Nigeria - Festus Keyamo (san) by nairalandankrah: 7:14am On Jun 26, 2022
PETER OBI THAT CANNOT EVEN WIN LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMANSHIP POSITION IN LAGOS STATE, HOW CAN HE RULE NIGERIA.? TINUBU IS THE SOLUTION WE NEED” — FESTUS KEYAMO

“Following the antecedent of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Peter Obi, these are two different individuals that are not compatible in anywhere politically, Financially and otherwise. Tinubu will beat Peter Obi hands down come 2023. This is a pure fact not an exaggeration.

Tinubu is more credible and competent to rule Nigeria than any other aspirants. His track records are there for the whole world to see.

Bringing PDP and LP Parties to contest with Asiwaju is a very big insult to our party the APC because what we have achieved within a short period of time, no political party has ever achieved it in the history of Nigerian politics.

Peter Obi per say cannot even win ordinary Chairmanship election in Lagos State not to talk of winning a single State in the forthcoming elections.

Asiwaju will defeat him even in his own polling unit. The entire Nation are behind Asiwaju. Asiwaju knows the game and this time around they will know how prepared we are.”

Politics / Callistus Okafor: Peter Obi’s Chances Under Threat if LP Crisis Isn’t Resolved by nairalandankrah: 6:03am On Jun 26, 2022
You cannot build legality on illegality, it cannot stand, you cannot build this house on a mud and expect it to stand. An acting National Secretary cannot sign a document that will make Obi the President. chairman of the Labour Party, Callistus Okafor, speaks with FRIDAY OLOKOR on the crisis in the party and why he is in court

The Labour Party has been in the news of recent because of controversies at a time the people believe you should consolidate and ensure a Peter Obi presidency. Why?

Like you rightly said, this is the time the Labour Party should come together, become one and be able to take over the leadership of this nation come 2023 because of the emergence of Peter Obi. But the truth of the matter is this; the problem of the Labour Party did not start because of Obi, the problem of Labour Party started since 2017. In a convention that was held on October 11, 2014 in Akure, Ondo State, I emerged as the Deputy National Chairman (South), Julius Abure emerged as Deputy National Secretary, the late Abdulkadir Abdulsalam of blessed memory emerged as the National Chairman and after that, everything was okay.

When Momodu came to the Labour Party to contest election, Dan Nwanyanwu, in his wisdom, asked him, ‘what do you have to say? You want to contest presidential election? He (Momodu) said he had millions of followers on Facebook and Dan Nwanyanwu told him that Nigerian election is not won on Facebook

How would you describe the challenges of strikes, industrial disputes which have become a recurring decimal in the country?

You see why the Labour Party should be the ruling party in this country. It is the political party owned by the masses. Tell me, why is it that people are going on strike? If you do the right thing, if the President or the leader or if the political party does the right things, pays these workers their allowances and all that, nobody will go on strike. That is the truth. So, I am telling you that if you talk about the political party that will rule this country, and this country will become a better country tomorrow, give it to the Labour Party.

Would you subscribe that the Labour Party should merge with the “bigger parties” in 2023?

Unfortunately, no; I don’t believe in that. The Labour Party has the strength, human strength. It has the highest members in this country. They can stand alone, why not? I don’t believe in that.

Amidst all these, it is believed that the Independent National Electoral Commission recognised the Abure faction of the LP. Why is it so?

When A.A. Salam died, remember that Abure and the national chairman were the people who had the power to write letters to INEC. When the then national chairman died, the right thing was that Abure and I would start writing letters and you know INEC, the moment they see one of the signatures, they will honour it. But when INEC got there and saw that an acting National Secretary transformed not even to acting national chairman but substantive chairman, INEC themselves knew that it is was wrong, but nobody challenged it.

INEC knows our constitution, INEC knows that constitutionally, the acting National Secretary cannot assume office as a chairman but INEC has no powers to raise any objection until someone says no to it, and if someone raises an objection, INEC will concur. I bet anything for it, that if INEC themselves knows now that the moment any court order comes, it (INEC) will not waste one second before removing his name because they know the truth, they know the right thing to do. It is law, it is a constitutional issue.

Politics / Atiku Remains Miyetti Allah’s Chief Financier, Says Unongo, NEF Chairman by nairalandankrah: 7:00pm On Jun 07, 2022
The Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Paul Unongo, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of being the chief financier and most influential member of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, the apex body of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria.

He, therefore, called on Atiku, who is a prince of the Tiv Court, to caution the herdsmen, who have been slaughtering hundreds of people in the country.

Unongo said this during an interview with one of our correspondents on Friday.

The NEF Chairman said, “I am aware that the most powerful person in Miyetti Allah is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who wants to be the next president. If they are fighting for power and Atiku wants to create problems for Buhari, I don’t know. There are so many possibilities.

“The most powerful person who finances the Miyetti Allah is Abubakar Atiku and he is a prince of the Tiv Court. The Tiv gave him a traditional title, meaning ‘the biggest shade of the Tiv people’.

“This implies that the Tiv people should be able to run to Atiku who will protect them.

This is the man who heads Miyetti Allah and is the greatest financier of this organisation.

He has more cattle than anybody in Miyetti Allah.

“It is an establishment of the big people, a very rich group of Nigerians and they pack small boys to take their cattle all over the place and then buy all these arms to give herdsmen to go and kill people, and the government is doing nothing!”

When asked if he was sure that Atiku was the most influential member of the Miyetti Allah, Unongo said the former Vice President told him personally that he was an influential member of the association.

He added, “I know, I got my facts partially from him regarding Miyetti Allah when I used to talk to him.”

When our correspondent asked Unongo if he had met with the former Vice President recently over the issue, the NEF boss said it was very difficult to see him.

He said, “Have you tried to see a ‘big man’ before? I don’t like to wait at people’s doors. If you’re in government, yes, but when you’re not in government, it shouldn’t be so hard to see you.

Atiku is my younger brother and he should come to me.

“Anytime you go to his place, the people around him think you are there to collect money that they are sharing. So, I decided that I would not disgrace the NEF. I am not belittling him, but he is no longer in power and I deserve some respect.”

Unongo also berated the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for treating the Fulani herdsmen crisis with kid gloves.

He said he had been warning the President for nearly three years about the crisis but that the President’s “insensitive” advisers had been deceiving him into thinking the matter was a small one.

Meanwhile, the President of the Yoruba Socio-cultural Association, Mr. Hameed Olalekan, said the group would be forced to mobilise youths in the South-West to defend themselves against the Fulani herdsmen.

Politics / Bello - Buhari Knows I Can Defeat Atiku Before 2pm On Election Day by nairalandankrah: 2:56pm On Jun 07, 2022
A presidential aspirant and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has vowed to defeat Atiku Abubakar before 2pm on election day if he emerges as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bello boasted that he has the formula to defeat Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.

He said: “By June this year, I will be 47. I am still the young of the young people, the voice of the younger generation, the voice for the women, the voice for people living with disabilities, and the voice for Nigerians irrespective of religion, region, or tribe because we have demonstrated it in Kogi State.”

Speaking on the solution to Nigeria’s security challenges, the governor explained that he has demonstrated his ability to solve tackle insecurity based on his experience in Kogi State.

Bello also promised to solve the security challenges facing the country within a year of assuming office if elected as the next president in 2023.

The presidential aspirant stated that since he came on board as Kogi governor in 2016, the state has recorded low-security issues due to his leadership.

“I have demonstrated that well enough in Kogi State. By the special grace of God, we are going to achieve it within the first 12 months of Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidency,” he said.

Politics / I Warned Tinubu About Buhari – Ayo Adebanjo (Afenifere Leader) by nairalandankrah: 7:36am On Jun 07, 2022
Leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said he warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader and frontline presidential aspirant of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, against supporting President Muhammadu Buhari.

He spoke to Daily Trust against the backdrop of the controversy generated by his comment last Thursday in Abeokuta where he said he ensured the victory of Buhari in 2015.

The president, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, replied Tinubu, saying many people contributed to his victory.

Adebanjo recalled that he warned Tinubu a long time ago that Buhari could not be trusted when he was packaging him as the best to be the president of Nigeria.

He stated that everything he said about Buhari had come to pass even though they said he was saying rubbish then.

“Those who doubted me said the old man was just talking rubbish. I said, ‘okay let’s wait and see.’ I won’t talk more until they finally ditch themselves out. By the time they finally ditch themselves, that’s when I will comment.

“This is not the time for me to say he should leave the party, I told him that a long time ago. You should refer to what people have said and what I particularly have told him.”

Politics / Adebanjo Tells Tinubu, Osinbajo: Drop Your Ambition, It's Turn Of South-East by nairalandankrah: 5:00am On Apr 20, 2022
Leader of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that presidential aspirants from the South-West geopolitical zone including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, should forget their presidential ambitions.

He said it was the turn of the South-East to produce Nigeria’s next President after the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in May 2023.

The elder statesman made his position known in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday.

According to him, it is an injustice for a South-West President to emerge in 2023 as ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from Ogun State ruled from 1999 to 2007; while Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, also from Ogun State, has been in government since May 2015 and would have spent eight years in power by May 2023.

The 94-year old elder statesman added that the South-South zone has also had a shot at both President and Vice-President positions with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan between 2007 and 2010 (as VP) and from 2010 to 2015 (as President).

Adebanjo, however, said for Nigeria to have another President, the country must first be secured.

The nonagenarian said, “Right now, is there a country for them to be President? There must be one country first before you can talk of an election. Is this the country Jonathan handed over to Buhari? Whether a Southern or a Northern candidate, let us unite everyone. We can’t get everyone united until we change this constitution.

“Are you safe? Talk about security. How am I sure that I won’t be shocked when I go to the police station, when electoral officers, soldiers, and policemen are being shot dead and I can’t travel to Maiduguri safely?

“All those who are clamouring for Presidency, be it Jagaban (Tinubu) or Osinbajo, they should assure us of our safety first, that the country is safe, that we are one, then we talk of who is going to be President. They should forget about their ambitions now until there is safety. Nobody can go to the South-East now, and we are all living in denial.”

Asked if he was supporting Tinubu, Osinbajo, or any President from the South-West, the Afenifere leader said, “How can I back a South-West candidate? That is not equity. Has Obasanjo not done so for eight years? Has Osinbajo not done eight years as VP? Has Jonathan not done five years as President? Is the South-East not part of Nigeria?

“We want peace and equity. It is the turn of the South-East. I don’t talk ambiguously. It is the South-East that the thing must go; there is no doubt about that but my anxiety now is that before we say, South-East, have we got a country? Let us settle that before we say South-East is the answer. I am not ambivalent about it at all.”

Politics / FG Instructed The Court To Drop Charges Against Kanu - Ohaneze by nairalandankrah: 1:25am On Apr 12, 2022
FG will further Drop other charges against Kanu, -Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has said the striking out of eight charges bordering on terrorism and felony against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is a welcome development.

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, on Friday, struck out eight of the 15 terrorism and felony charges preferred by the Federal Government against Kanu while ruling on a preliminary objection filed by the IPOB leader.

Reacting, the spokesman for Ohanaeze, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, in an interview with our correspondent, said the decision by the court indicated that victory for Kanu was near.

Ogbonnia said, “It is a success story for IPOB. It shows that he will soon be released. It is a success story for us all. In furtherance to that, today being Friday, all parts of South-East have been shut down because of Kanu’s trial. On Monday, there is likely to be another shutdown.

“How long can we continue like this? That is why Ohanaeze appeals to the presidency to consider the option of dialogue. By the time we go through the judicial process, nobody knows when this matter will end. The masses in the South-East will continue to suffer for it.

“The manner the armed forces have taken over the southeast will not ameliorate the trouble in the South-East now. Rather, it will only escalate it. The President can make a statement today and there will be jubilation everywhere. The issue of mobilising soldiers everywhere, making the South-East turn into a siege area does not even solve any problem.

“It deepens the problem. It is the policies of the government that determines the extent of the joy and happiness of the people. Whatever happens on the side of the people is a reaction to the government policies on the people. When the state is very harsh on the individual, the people will also be harsh on the state. There is still a need for dialogue to address the issue of the South East.”

Also speaking, the spokesman for the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Mr Ken Robinson, said it was unfortunate that the Buhari regime has pursued the case with Kanu with a bias.

Politics / Igboho’s Unconditional Release Is Proof Self-determination Isn’t A Crime – Alloy by nairalandankrah: 5:28am On Mar 09, 2022
.

Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reacted to the release of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho).

Ejimakor, in a tweet, said the release of the Yoruba activist by the Beninese government showed that self-determination was neither a crime nor an extraditable offence.

He, therefore, called on the Nigerian government and the court to reverse its injustice against Kanu.

In a tweet, Ejimakor wrote: “The release of Igboho by the Benin Republic has validated the universal law that #SelfDetermination is neither a crime nor an extraditable offence. If it is, Igboho would’ve been extradited to Nigeria. If Nigeria fails to reverse its injustice to #NnamdiKanu, its courts must.”

Igboho was released by the Beninese Government on Monday and handed over to Prof Banji Akintoye, the leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, a Yoruba self-determination group.

Igboho had been detained in a prison facility in the Republic of Benin, after he was arrested with Ropo, his wife, at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, while on his way to Germany in July 2021.
This was after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Following the Unconditional release of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), on Monday from detention by the Beninese government, eliciting jubilation in several quarters in the South-West region....

Igboho had been detained in a prison facility in the Republic of Benin, after he was arrested with Ropo, his wife, at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, while on his way to Germany in July 2021.

Sunday Igboho
The 49-year-old agitator fled Nigeria for Benin Republic after the Nigerian government declared him wanted.

But on Monday, the Ilana Omo Oodua, a self-determination group confirmed Igboho's release, in a statement issued by its Communications Secretary, Maxwell Adeleye.

According to Maxwell, the agitator has regained total freedom and is permitted to hold rallies if he wishes.

The decision to remain in Benin Republic for now, he said, was taken amongst Igboho and the other Yoruba leaders and not the decision of the court.

Maxwell said Igboho was not released to any medical practitioner as he stated that the Yoruba activist slept at his house in Cotonou on Monday.

He said, “Igboho was not stopped from holding rally, he was not released to any medical personnel he slept in his own house in Cotonou yesterday. It was an understanding that he should remain in Benin for now, to security reasons because he can be easily picked up if he returned to Nigeria.

This Napoli team won't even be top 5 in premier league

So seria A is wack then!

Why are Napoli trying to sell their talented asset “Osimehn” (something is off) they’re even doing a positive PR job to increase his value because his coach even compared him to Maradona

Maybe they don't need him anymore

You’re telling or asking me? Can you categorically prove such remark with anecdotal evidence? Aka ‘how you sure say I nor watch the game?”

This one no be grammar matter, I'm putting it to you that If only you watched the match, you'd agree with me and Neapolitans all over the world that Victor should start looking for a serious team

The problem with you biased analyst is that, you’re quick to castigate Napoli players whenever osimehn doesn’t excel at a game and exculpate him of any blame, While denigrating his teammates. Remember, if you’re making statements like “ these guys are bad at football” it also include Osimehn because he is a record signing. Whenever they lose, people are quick to blame the players while ‘excluding’ osimehn of any blame, while whenever they’re winning, we’re quick to praise solely Osimehn

Taaa! Waa here... You did not even watch the match
