I think this is the meeting at which they discussed aid for the immunisation programme against polio in Kano. I posted the article earlier, but the anti-spam bot hid it and banned me. |
Good morning. Please unban naptu2 and release my post. I was banned by the anti-spam bot while posting on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1062509/nigeria-good-bad-beautiful-ugly/47 Thank you. |
Gombs: Umm, frm d above bolded, can you explain why there's a refinery in kaduna?...cos it beats me to comprehend why your above bolded wasn't considered while siting kaduna refinery. There's a refinery in Kaduna because there's a market there (people use fuel in the north). In fact, because of the inefficiencies in the Nigerian system, the Republic of Niger has set up a refinery close to the Nigerian border, so that they can easily sell fuel to Nigerians. |
kettykings: I now understand something about the Nigerian military of that Era the monkeys work while the baboons chop , how come nothing was even heard about this young man behind the dislodgment of the coup plotters Maj Chris Ugokwe when it came to dislodging they remembered their under dogs, rather it is a certain Babangida that is being rated a hero in Nigeria today.1) Chris Ugokwe was sent to dislodge the coupists because of his position in the Nigerian Army. Ibrahim Babangida was initially sent, because he was the Commander of the Armoured Corp at the time. At the time General Danjuma favoured an all out attack on the radio station, so he expected Babangida to use his tanks to destroy the radio station if necessary. Danjuma was shocked when Babangida reported that he had had discussions with Dimka (because he expected Babangida to go for an all out attack). Chris Ugokwe was a regimental commander in the armoured corps (sort of like Babangida's deputy), so it was only natural that Danjuma should order Ugokwe to engage the coup plotters. https://www.nairaland.com/439929/colonel-chris-ugokwe-grudge-nigerian 2) I completely agree with you that the January 15th 1966 coup was not and could not have been an Igbo coup. Therefore, the murder of innocent igbo civilians was inexcusable. 3) A coup is usually a murky, confused and partly secret event, so it's no surprise that people are given credit for things that they did not do. For example, some still believe that Kaduna Nzeogwu was the leader of the January 15th 1966 coup. |
Hm! Is Dangote a monopolist? Listen to his answer to that question. The Aliko Dangote interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx_H_LrZ1DE |
Apart from the general state of the stadium, another important issue is the pitch (in 1989 my dad asked the minister why the stadium was being repainted when the two most important aspects of the stadium, the pitch and dressing rooms had not been touched). 1) There was a proposal to ask the Institute of Tropical Agriculture to conduct experiments and grow the type of grass that would be able to withstand the climatic conditions in Nigeria (extreme heat and huge rainfall). Nothing was done. 2) There's the issue of synthetic pitches, which the Lagos State Government opted to use. Synthetic pitches are easier to maintain, but some teams believe that they are inferior to grass pitches and refuse to play on them. 3) However, some say it's just a case of proper management, care and attention. Someone pointed to the condition of the Unilag Sports Centre pitch, which he said was always in pristine condition in the mid-90s. He said that this was because of the constant attention and care the management showered on the pitch. |
I'm more interested in something else. I'm interested in the question how do we maintain our national stadia and ensure that it does not fall into that state of disrepair (this is something I've been working on since 1989 when the government "painted" the national stadium). Back in the day there was a proposal that the stadiums should be given to clubs to manage and use. This was because, at that time, when the national teams were not playing, the National Stadium Lagos, Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, Liberty Stadium Ibadan and Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu would lie unused for months. It was felt that the clubs could use revenue gotten from ticket sales and hiring out the stadiums for events to maintain the stadiums. That wasn't done. In the mid-2000s, area boys in Surulere wrote a letter to the stadium manager at the National Stadium and the Ministry of Sports, requesting for permission to manage the stadium. They felt that they could do a better job and remit funds back to the government. That wasn't done. We need to find a long term and sustainable method of managing our national stadia, because they should be cash cows, rather than derelict white elephants. What often happens (and this has been the case since 1989 when we were bidding to host the world junior championships) is that the media would raise an alarm, the government would hurriedly take measures to remedy the situation, then 5 or 10 years down the line, the stadium would become a disaster site again. In the case of the National Stadium Lagos, it seems it has been forgotten since the 2000 Nations Cup. |
Please can someone look into my case. I'm still banned from posting in the politics section and my post is still hidden. nap2: Good morning. |
50calibre: Because our colonial masters trusted the savages called Hausas and handed the reins of power to them while regarding other tribes (especially Igbos) as rebels because they knew we wouldn't be subservient to them.1) Wow! So the Queen never visited Lagos, Benin, etc during her visit to Nigeria in 1956! How come I have pictures and video footage of her visiting Lagos at that time and how come my mum told me about the reception for the Queen in Lagos? 2) How many Hausa heads of state/government have we had in Nigeria? |
The team's eventual visit and workout session with Kaffy. Note: they said the game was cancelled for logistics reasons. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2180943/Arsenals-Bacary-Sagna-Lukas-Podolski-Per-Mertesacker-dancing-Lagos-Nigeira.html |
This is the nairaland thread about the president's visit, where he expressed shock that the stadium was overgrown with weeds. Renovation of the stadium was begun by Julius Berger in January. Arsenal's game against Nigeria in Abuja unlikely to go ahead.http://justarsenal.com/arsenals-game-against-nigeria-in-abuja-unlikely-to-go-ahead/14409 |
Mexyz: @nap2,u re spreadn lies abt arsenal fc nt playn because of d stadia,d game was cancelled due to oda reasons abeg. @op,my guy when last ve u bn to abj stadia,i can tel u authoritatively dat d stadia is under full maitenance nw by julius berger.Should I risk another pyguru ban? I just got banned for posting links that disproved the claims of someone that said I lied. Ah! I'll risk it. 1) The Arsenal advance team declared that the pitch was in no condition to host the football match. The organisers promised to improve the condition of the pitch before the game. Arsenal then called off the game, but refused to disclose the exact reason for calling off the game. However, the still visited Lagos and Abuja for photo sessions with fans and sponsors. 2) The pitch and general state of the stadium was only improved after President Jonathan's visit months later. I watched his visit on tv. He was also shocked at the condition of the stadium. |
Arsenal were meant to play a match at the National Stadium Abuja last year, but they cancelled the game when their advance team saw the state of the pitch. Instead they only took photographs and signed autographs for their fans and sponsors. |
I was just about to suggest that you compare Teslim Balogun Stadium and National Stadium Surulere, when I saw Okiki_Oluwa's post. However, one good and/or bad thing about Teslim Balogun Stadium is that it has a synthetic pitch. The Lagos State Government decided to lay synthetic pitches in stadia across the state (Teslim Balogun Stadium, Campos Mini Stadium, etc) because it is easier to maintain and will not deteriorate to such shocking conditions as the state of the pitch at the Abuja National Stadium. However, some teams refuse to play on synthetic pitches, considering them inferior to natural grass surfaces. |
Now, let's take a look at some passages from the telegram. 1 "hiding " at his homeThe High Commissioner said that they had to search for Yusuf and that he was hiding at his home. Wouldn't his house be an obvious place to look for him? Therefore how come the High Commission had a difficult time "finding him"? If he was indeed hiding, wouldn't his home be an obvious place for the coupist to find him? So, if he was cowardly and hiding, why would he be hiding at his home? 3. When finally located at mid-day friday, yusufu seemed resigned to whatever might happen to him, refusing a high commission offer to move him out of his house to a safe location "where he might be able to regroup his colleagues."If Yusuf was cowardly, gutless and hiding, wouldn't he have taken up the British offer to move him to a safe location (which the coup plotters would not know about) rather than staying at his home (which would be an obvious target for the coupists)? he has been reliably informed that they "ran home" and changed into civilian clothes as soon as they heard the dimka broadcast. Garba was not heard from for the rest of the day.Reliably informed by whom and how do we judge the reliability of the informant? As for danjuma, he went to the bonny camp on victoria island around midday to rally loyalist military forces but was so unnerved and out-of-control that his principal staff officer col. Isama, had to take charge.Once again, what's the source off this information and how do we judge the reliability of the source? |
So the antispam bot banned me and hid my post about the business interests of the Iranian Military. I hope it's made visible soon. When I'm unbanned I'll also post about the business interests of the Egyptian Military. |

When researching historical events, you need to read different sides of the story from different (even opposing) sources, so that you can get a balanced view and come to your own conclusions about what happened. Remember that the British were accused of being complicit in Dimka's coup. On the day of the coup (while the coup was in progress) Dimka went to the British High Commission. Also remember that some of Murtala's policies were against British interests. |
Unfortunately my laptop is performing a strange dance and needs to be taken to the laptop doctor, so I can't post the video. But that doesn't mean I can't have some fun while waiting for the mods to lift Pyguru's ban. |
