Nihilist:Look, Nihilist, regardless of what differing opinions we have on the issue, this is how it works. Once Jose lost the respect of his players, the only way was OUT! End of story. Whether I feel they were shackled or not will continue to be argued for a long time. I maintain to you, over and over that last season was not as glossy as you always make it seem. This point always seems conveniently left behind for just the numbers. Yes we did win the league but stumbled to the finish line after the loss to Tottenham. City were bottlers, United were lost in the desert and Arsenal were just well. . . Arsenal. Rumours of players not liking the system they play in and the ultra defensive football surfaced last season. People ignored. Players like Remy will not believe what they have to do to play. Especially when he sees a dead Falcao barely able to trap the ball. Imagine all the players who felt Ivanovic should be dropped. Even fans could see it. Jose persisted. If this irked ordinary fans, how about players? Many stupid things he did that I cannot begin to count, no time! Now people are making it seem like this sh1t came out of nowhere? Make una spare me. |
bigkesh:You are barking up the wrong tree. Let's assume for a moment that this theory is true. The players just magically became the problem abi? They all probably met at a restaurant in West London and decided, without any prior reasons, that they were going to stop playing. People should stop perpetuating this falsehood. When people like us have been screaming for years say Jose too like to dey talk and fight, some will respond to you saying, he is handling the media. You think say person wey like trouble, na only outside im dey find trouble? |
raumdeuter:You too dey talk. Left to some, make we continue. By now, we'll be 0-0 with Sunderland playing with all purpose and belief that they can walk away from thus with at least a point. Others are directing their anger towards Hazard asking him to be sacked. Like say na Hazard cause problem. See the players expressing themselves without feeling shackled. If these players dey play like this, how much more Hazard? |

Dongorgon5:Mate, tone down the tension and review your use of language or we get you out of here ASAP. |
Griffon:God bless you Lacer. Some yobs on Twitter saying something like "I would have preferred Chelsea gets relegated with JM than let him go . . . ." Seriously? |
Dhelake:Alhaji, please review and understand the context of the argument before you begin dey foam for mouth. You will need extra-terrestrial deliverance if any part of you thinks that Messi, an unfinished youngster at the Chelsea's academy, who loved to eat meat, party with the Brazilians, who displayed a lackadaisical attitude towards training, watched Argentinian matches till late at nights and showed generally, an insipid attitude towards professionalism would have had Jose take him under his wings, have patience with him, show him what good is from bad, vow not to loan him out, review videos with him in one-on-one sessions, give him 51 games and not just that, give him 51 games in one season outside a tactical straight-jacket. You are comparing this scenario to one of Ronaldo who had already scored 42 goals (3 seasons before he met Jose) in the world's most competitive league and was already WPOTY. Alhaji abeg. You either don't know JM very well or as the others, you belittle the immense influence of Pep's off-field and on-field actions towards Messi's greatness. |
I can tell you confidently that Messi would not have been this Messi under Jose Mourinho. He would have had to track back to the 18 yard box to help his defender every 2 mins, been shouted at when not seen making 10 sliding tackles per game, he would have been playing in front of a right-footed left-back or a left-footed right-back and will need to sprint 80 yards to the opposition goal every 5 mins, to register a shot on goal. So yes, it can be said Pep's use of Messi, made Messi into the player he is today. |
Hiddink looks official. Australian FA announcing this. Welcome my man. |
Make the new guy no come dey play Ramires o. Even if na my guy Hiddink, I go vex for am. |
Nihilist:Let me tell you what will happen should Jose take the job at United next season. He will have 200% of the board's support. He will be allowed to spend 100s of millions. He will spend 100s of millions of one-time wonders, work-horses and average Joes. These average Joes will run into the ground for him. The will win the league. United fans will be happy winning the league again, being consistent at the top. Compared to where they have been in recent years, it's glory days again. He will organize them at back the back. They will be ultra defensive and admirable but as always, very lacklustre going forward. He will manage to convince them pragmatism wins. He will win the hearts of some. The next season, the fights will begin. He will take a pop at Wenger and now Chelsea. He will fight the media, the referees and anyone in between, the moment they lose. Some of his fans will still like him, some will stop. He will park the bus against Chelsea, City, Arsenal. This is where the anger will begin. Die-hard United fans will crave expansive football once again. He will not change. He will not bring any young player through, the work horses will start to fail. Blaming will begin. He probably finishes the season winning the league again. Third season, full blown fight against everyone. The workhorses (the usual 11 - the untouchables) stop performing. United fans demand better football to the eye, despite just winning the league. More public fights. Blames. Name calling. Fans of other clubs start to hate United because of JM. People call them classless. United's PR suffers a blow. Boards' backing drops to 70% . . . . Beginning of the end. Nihilist, what do you think will happen with Jose when he gets to United? Remember that this will a club not notorious for undermining their manager. |
sephia:Thank you for taking the words right out of my mind. |
Nihilist:Nihilist have you ever wondered why only Chelsea fans and those who have a soft spot have this view about JM? The truthful answer will tell you why Jose will never get any board's 100% backing. In most cases, if you are not a Chelsea fan, you dislike Jose. Not for his performances but his attitude. The same is hardly echoed about Ferguson. |
nitlad:I don't loathe him. I totally dislike his methods. And I always go on record saying his ways cannot be sustained and that his sacking is almost always inevitable unless he leaves voluntarily after 2 seasons. By his second year, he is already having fights with everyone around and going from the most loved and respected by his players to having a toxic dressing room and looking a proper villain in their eyes. 3rd season on, it is happening again. I thank him for contributing "in no small measure" to the club's successes in the recent years but I thank the £500m spent by Roman in the same period, even more. |
raumdeuter:Fixed. |
Why now? I say it's a statement of intent by Roman. Although it took a long time to reach this decision, indicating that Roman did want to keep him. Letting him go right now emphasizes the fact that even though the transfer window is only a few weeks away, Jose is not really trusted to spend wisely. Hence results will not improve. It is the only conclusion I can reach. |
Nihilist:I was just about to have a discussion about this. I suppose it will not matter anymore. |
Nihilist:This post here proves my whole point. How many times have I heard this before? even from the time of AVB being Jose's scout. You hear this "attention to detail" thing the players band about with Jose's methods. From Terry, to Lampard, to his coaches. But pay attention and you will discover that this attention to details is always directed to the defensive side of the game. Preventing the opposition from scoring.Tell me how many times we ever heard an attacker praise Jose for this attention to detail "IN ATTACK"? I mean an attacker on TV, detailing how Jose instructs the movement of ball through the channels; how he instructs players ahead of play to move; how he instructs players to move into space; What we always hear and see is the clear display of Jose's preference for stopping the opposition rather than attacking it. Even Hazard complained last season, that our only game plan in attack is to give the ball to him. Aha! And this sums up the whole thing - my consistent argument for many years. Yes he prepped the guys to counter Leicester's attacking prowess but what happened when the plan failed? The obvious response was to go attack and get a goal. What did we do in attack? Absolute Zilch! How were we to even the scores without scoring? I don't buy this players are not playing to instructions thing. The truth instead is that players in defense have lost confidence. So instead of concentrating on more defensive tactics, let's see if we can maintain the same level of defense and then try to bail ourselves out by outscoring the opposition. The reality though is that this is never going to happen. So please expect the slump to continue. Brace yourselves! I repeat, when your whole methodology is predicated on preventing the opposition from scoring, then one day when that defensive unit is faulty (as it is now), you will find it difficult to win games because the very fundamental element that wins games (goal-scoring) has been consistently absent. |
Nihilist:It is not funny thinking Nihilist. Combined value counts for all things mate because in most cases than not, this is the norm. Forget what is happening Leicester, their case is a grand anomaly. Let Leicester try this sh1t next season with the same squad quality and depth in the PL, CL, FA Cup and League Cup. They have to enter market and buy better players and bang! combined value goes up. Secondly it does not matter that Vardy put 2 past Arsenal, what mattered on the day is that Arsenal put 5 past Leicester. And this proves my point. We couldn't create a single chance for almost 40 mins if not more. The bulk of our problem has been that we don't create near enough chances. It is a good option to play counter-attacking football against a superior side. But when that is your ONLY game plan, you will have problems against resolute defences. THIS has been our problem for 3 seasons. |
JustKay3:You miss the point. The true state of things is that when the team had its "swagger", we were playing counter-attacking football. This is how we played for much of last season. There was no time I saw it and didn't complain. stating several times that this method will come back to bite us in the butt. So terrible that when we were 11 v 10 against PSG last season in the CL, the boys were lost, we didn't know how to take advantage because we never went into the game to attack. |
When I said many weeks ago that we were in a proper relegation fight, some thought I was exaggerating. When I also mentioned in the same post many weeks ago, that we had a fundamental problem, one that has existed for long time, one of a very blunt attack, unable to penetrate resolute defences and create chances, I was told I was exaggerating. A few victories against weak teams made some folks carried away. Fast forward to December, the problems exist. Watch how Leicester build up to the first goal, moving the ball through the middle with swift passes and movements and tell me we play like that. I will state it for the umpteenth time, this is beyond Jose Mourinho. Jose lacks the fundamental concepts of developing attacking play. This is the only reason why you have Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Remy, Oscar, Costa and Nihilist thinks that counter-attacking football is our strongest set-up. Those players alone have a combined value of £145m - more expensive than the whole of the Leicester team, 3 times over and the best way to beat them is to sit back and concede possession? Wonders shall never end. It's a simple concept. When your idea of winning is predicated upon the opponent not scoring first, then one day when that defensive unit is faulty (as it is now), you will win few matches because the fundamental concepts of building attacks to create chances and score goals has been absent. You have little to nothing to rely on. This concept only works for one or two seasons and that is why this fella has never been found out. When the true test of building a dynasty is upon us, this method of winning will not stand the test of time. It is a method built 'ONLY' on defensive organization; nothing more. I don't dispute that Jose is an astute organizer but without dispute, managers like Bielsa, Wenger, Pep, Ferguson, et al will make a formidable attacking unit out of these players. I am glad no one is still claiming the players are not playing for Jose. What's the excuse now? |
Hehehe. |
mithel:Ibime has slaughtered an Ewu on the altar of Amadioha. ![]() |
mithel:Now that's a point of view still not considered yet - the psychological impact. It's not mental weakness when a young player gets demoralised by insufficient chances to prove themselves, when they are behind an in-form world class player. What is crazily heart-breaking is when a manager would rather play a RB in your position in a dead-rubber game than give you chances; when a manager would rather buy an ex-service man and push you down the pecking order and/or when you sit on the bench and watch the drivel being delivered by the likes of Falcao, knowing your output is not far off, yet not given any chances to try. This impact is invisible and cannot be measured. If someone like Lukaku (the seemingly ready type) can get demoralised by such events, imagine those younger. |
Nihilist:Perhaps I should put it this way, it doesn't matter who it is. It doesn't have to be Bamford. It could be Ogedengbe for all I care. It's the same principle. And sorry Nihilist, the likes of Lukaku and Zouma don't fall under this category. I mean I don't really care how many seasons Zouma has played in some league somewhere, he was bought for phocking £12m. To put things in perspective, that's more expensive than each of Cahill and Ivanovic cost, even when you factor in inflation over the years. So no mate, if he was not going straight into the team, someone needs to be fired. The same applies to Lukaku. Someone will need to be buried alive if Lukaku cost Chelsea up to £17m (including add-ons) and wasn't walking into the team or at the very least, knocking on the door. Again, to put things in perspective, that's more expensive than it cost to get Anelka, more expensive than Malouda, more expensive than Robben and only £5m cheaper than what it cost to get Juan Mata. I am really sorry to disappoint but this is nothing near youth integration. We don't have the right youth? It will be interesting to know who does. |
Nihilist:I expected you to disagree with me regarding Traore and Bamford ![]() On the topic of Midfield. . . I don't know if you have noticed, when it comes to midfield, I have never asked for a youth player to take the lead role. Instead I have consistently called for a measured and cautious approach to integration. And that's because I recognise that in midfield, mistakes will easily be punished. This is why I (and not unconciously) have the boys down the pecking order. Where my suggestions may resemble asking for youth taking the lead role in midfield, is when it comes to the topic of Ramires and Mikel. And my personal opinion of these two is that they offer no form of strenghtening and are infact, as at today, stumbling blocks in the development of possibly (who knows?) future great players. The other part, is in instance where we have a dead rubber game in the CL (last season to be exact) and JM goes on and plays a full strength team. This is when you hear me screaming again. So I am not mad. I wouldn't ask not to buy Koke and play Pasalic instead. What I would not have is attempting to play Ramires as No 10 (when Koke is injured) instead of Pasalic. And the same applies in attack. I won't have Falcao in the team trying to revive his career and eraning £5m while at it when I could play Traore/Bamford instead. So as with midfield, I would not say no to Lewandowski, Diego, Remy, Bamford attack in that order; what I wouldn't have is Falcao featuring on that list, blocking the chances of a possible Crespo2015 in Bamford, earning £5m while at it and then phocking off into the distance after it all. So I believe that my thoughts about youth integration are quite logical and not playing youth for the sake of it. |
Nihilist:I was surprised at that move to be honest. Yann Mvila to Sunderland? That's a fella who knows what to do with a football and can run with the ball at the same time. Right now, Chelsea requires TWO players (Ramires and Mikel) to accomplish that same task. |
raumdeuter:To be fair there are not many strikers. My earlier post was actually ONLY in reply to the Nihilist's one. This hardly reflects my position on what should happen regarding the striking department. If you are asking me what we should do. I say keep Diego, get a cab to pick up Falcao and move Remy to No 2 striker. Then make Traore No 3 and let's see what he can do. Bring Bamford back from loan and encourage him with a few minutes. You cannot expect the best from Remy when all the time he should have been playing, JM was trying to revive Falcao's dead career. So let's see what Remy can do. With midfield, this is where I will spend a few quid in the market. I will stick with my recommendations in the Summer. I would have sold Ramires for £20m, Mikel for £10m and Oscar for . . I don't know . . £25m? and I would have spent the money + added cash on Koke and Witsel and Mcarthy . Now this is what I still wish to do in terms of in-comings, except we cannot ever get that much money for those out-going fellas again. So I do not know if that factor influences my decisions. I will keep Pasalic, RLC and Baker in midfield as junior players and give them minutes when we can. This settles for a midfield of Koke, Witsel, Matic, Mcarthy, Fabregas, Pasalic, RLC, Baker and we are covered. Everyone else stays. I consider Hazard, Pedro and Willian a part of the forward line. I will re-tune the tactical set-up and move the ball through midfield with particular focus of transforming the team to a pass-oriented team rather than one that runs with the ball for too long. Our defensive cover in midfield is solid and fullbacks can still be Azpi and Rahman (deputised by Ake). And I believe we can still be very formidable. I don't believe I have weakend the team in any area. Instead, I have strengthen and also provided for longevity. But then again, I am not a manger. This is just my view and very much open to criticism. |
Nihilist:One would think so. However, I am in siddon look mode. Because unfortunately, the calibre of the striker the team requires (one capable of displacing Diego) is probably not available in January. That said, without starting up another round of arguments, I wuold rather see us being linked with midfielders FIRST before attackers. @Lacer. Do you know the terms of Pasalic's loan move? Is it a year? |
Hehehe. Nihilist don kolo finish. |
