But Rooney was given two chances to lead the line! He failed to win the golden boot on both occasions and worse Utd also missed out on the league! When it comes to a striker's brief Rooney is no match for RVP in any aspect
And in the years he failed to win the golden boot, which striker won it and why? Did the golden boot winner win the league with his team? What was the composition and strength of the golden boot winner's team compared with Utd's in those years. What was Rooney's goal conversion rate? So many factors to consider. I wonder how that is even a valid argument. How many strikers win the golden boot every season? Does that mean Rooney failed as a striker? It's amazing nobody was saying this about RVP before 2011. RVP found form and it happened at 28. Rooney's just 27. I know this will go back and forth and no one will accept. It's futile biz to continue to argue this. Let's hope Rooney signs. We will see what happens. |
debosky: RVP is 29, Rooney is 27. Do you know how much more improved Rooney can/will be in 2 years? Or how much more improved Rooney would've become if he wasn't used as a utility player by Fergie? That is the crucial part. You nailed it on the head. Most people like to criticize Rooney's returns and performance forgetting he's doing a hell of a lot more than RVP in terms of team effort. If Rooney moves into a role (striker) where he does a lot less running than he currently does, he will out-perform RVP. Rooney is a deadly striker. |
jackbauersballs: NaaahI am perhaps a bigger fan. I have said for years, if there is one player from United I will take without thinking, it's Rooney. As far as I concerned, I think Rooney is deadliest player in the box in the PL if played as a striker. If Rooney plays in front of Mata, Hazard, KDB, Oscar, he will score bucket loads. |
All down to Hazard there. Lukaku goal. |
Nothing is worse in football than watching Ramires play on the right. Meanwhile, Ryan Bertrand has impressed me every time he's played this pre-season. |
Nice shot Lamps. 1-1 |
mithel: if torres was doing his job , i doubt andre would keep on drifting there, nando has been worse than awful, curious how you omitted him aboveSo Andre is drifting into the middle because Torres is not doing his job. Mate abeg stop this beer parlour analysis. Does Andre not have his own instructions? I am really surprised myself you conveniently omitted the fact that I said the Schurrle, Torres, Moses is a horrendous combination. |
Just like the Ramires-Lampard combo in midfield was seriously terrible in the last game, the combo of Schurrle, Torres and Moses is perhaps an even worse decision in this game. For a long time, I didn't know where Schurrle was playing. He kept drifting into the middle and was not creating width on the left. You all know what I think about Moses. This game is like having Moses on the both flanks. Horrendous forward play. Get them both out. Hazard in and anybody else on the other flank. |
dayokanu: In that Madrid, Isco and Di Maria would effectively replace OzilThe same dude claiming this is the one making the most noise about Madrid beating a Jose Chelsea that is still gelling - especially in pre-season. |
I wonder what all the wahala is about. Losing to a team that has the best player in the world and has very established professionals who are mostly in their prime is nothing to be ashamed about. Moreover, this team was assembled by JM. Years after JM left Chelsea, we were still rolling over teams in Europe. Plus it's a Pre-season game. We don't even know our own best 11 yet. There's no need to go over board with pre-mature arguments. We have a young team that has a whole lot of potential. |
lalaboi: This loss(preseason or not) looks bad on mourinho than it looks bad on chelsea. . . no?Overreaction. Nothing's decided in pre-season. |
Game over. Good game. It tell us where we are. Many lessons to be learnt. We still don't know what our best 11 is. There's more room for improvement. |
I am wrong. Hazard is still on there. Who went out then? |
So Hazard, Terry and Ramires are off. Essien, Cesar and Schurrle on. I thought Schurrle did not travel. |
lalaboi: Ivanovic has started that arm-behind-back crap david luiz was doing last season. . close down the damn ballMate you see that too? Dude just backs off allowing players to cross. I much prefer Azpilicueta. |
3-1 Ronaldo. Jose is not happy with ivanovic. |
Change of shape and personnel. I expect the midfield contests to be more even now. I think we are now playing a 4-3-3 with Ramires sitting, KDB and MvG in midfield and Moses, Hazard and Torres upfront. |
mithel: Apart from MVG' s tackles , I still dont see what the hype is all about. ..his defensive abilities are top notch but going forward. ..I still haven't seen anything specialI don't see anyone hyping him. He is a very intelligent player who senses danger, is tough on the ball, very cautious though but has the ability to make attacking passes where necessary. He's 20 and nothing spectacular should be expected from him. |
El Guapo: Mou Is 'scared' of what happens next when we lose the ball - How fast can we be to Close down Isco Or Ronaldo? Thats his concern and I think thats the only reason we've got bodies behind the ball.Schurrle, Mata and Luiz are not in the team. |
Jeeez! Americans cannot wait for a show. What's all the serenren going on in a PS game. |
lalaboi: Hazard looks to have disappeared when it mattersThat's a myopic way of looking at it. Oscar and Lukaku cannot get a hold of the ball as well because they are isolated. The midfield is uncreative, inert and unintelligent and as such, forwards will suffer. |
Damn! See free kick |
It's all pre-season fitness. Else, with the players we have, we should never play a big team with a midfield like this. |
Very good goal. |
Beautiful Ramirez. |
Code please. Super charged. . Ready to roll abeg. |
mithel: still shouldnt go ahead of lukakuYou are overstating my point. |
dayokanu: That shows their quality over the Torreses yo have currently who kept rotating round the field like a barbers chairJose Mourinho: - "Sometimes the striker does a great job for the team and cannot go to the scoresheet. Fernando Torres today was fantastic and he has five days of training after the Confederations Cup. He is not fit but his attitude was amazing. I have to praise my strikers because they are working for the team." ------- |
dayokanu: The 2 goal scorers today were in the Bundesliga last seasonAnd? |
Schurrle. Top class. 2-0. |
Torres out for Lukaku. |
Victor Moses. . . Awful. |
