I admit Schurrle was rubbish last season but that's what you get with young players! Inconsistency! Besides the entire Leverkussen team played poorly against Barca i remember though that he did score against Valencia
He is better than De Bruyne at this point in their careers IMO
Never. KDB's all-round game is a class act above Schurle at this stage of their careers. KDB's composure, technique, vision, range of passes and sheer ability on the ball puts him right ahead of Andre. I quite agree that Schurrle will most likely be preferred as a wing forward, however, that's about all he can do. KDB on the other hand will fit nicely into a number of positions - playing primarily as a winger in Genk and now as a CM in Bremen.

Apart from those abilities I highlighted, even Ibime will confirm to you that KDB leads many players in Europe with the quality of crosses he delivers, consistently.

You've got to love the kind of stats you can find on opta.

Newcastle have not scored from a corner kick since October 2011. 247 corners and not a single goal from all. cheesy cheesy

Looking at it from another angle, you can see significant movement on the ball. I think it was more about the movement generated in flight than any technique behind it (if any). Not sure the keeper would have saved it though.

mithel: do we need another attacking midfielderhuh undecided
Is Schurrle an attacking midfielder?

I still don't see how the guy is better than Victor Moses sef. Another average player ( especually at the being quoted) when we should be looking to bring in at least one top of the range talent like Hazard. I need a proper first team winger. 2 CMs, De Bryune, Van Aanholt, Piazon, Chalobah and Lukaku to return to the squad. Wallace will join (Still don't see the need for him). McEachran on loan to a prem club. I don't know how Lazar Markovic into all this. Heard a deal is in place.

If Lampard does not break his record this season, I would love the club to give him a contract that at the very least affords him the chance to break it. He deserves that much.

Essien, Malouda, Benayoun, Ferreira, Hilario will all leave.

Painful to lose to City again. I appreciate the response after the second goal though. We didn't just roll over and let them stroll on into the final. We'll be back next season.

Moses got more strength than Mata. So what? We are talking decision making, you are talking strength. And about age, I hope you really don't believe Moses is 21.

FBS: For those worried about my safety, I'm in my house now watching Basel vs Spurs. Thanks for the love and Care. tongue grin

As for the match
- Terry and Luiz were probably bored. Complete disarray.
- Paulo. The MOST disciplined player on the pitch today.
-Moses -poor decision making but he scored a good goal and he was always tracking back.
- Ake. The boy get brain. Impressive though he tired out.
- Mikel was clearly NOT interested. Played rubbish.
- General Lamps orchestrated the best moves.
- Torres had the opening goal and that was it. Zero contribution.
- Yossi. Well he was just that Yossi.
- Cesar needs some good rest.
And Cech was not on the pitch though he made one good save.

Citeh next!
Glad to see you are okay.

Andre Uweh: Moses was always tracking back to assist Ferreira at the left back. In fact he was my Chelsea man of the match in Moscow earlier today.
He did. Except when he had to make a decision in the final third, he almost always made the wrong decision. I have been saying this for a while that he is not better than Kalou. Scores the odd goal, works hard, tracks back but when you need him to provide that pass, that through ball, that right shot in the dying minutes of a must-win game, then you have the wrong guy. I guess at £7m, I cannot complain much. He's an option - a decent one at that. It just gets me worrying why we sold an Ivorian Salomon Kalou and bought a Nigerian one.

If we are going down the route of fairly experienced players as squad players, in place of Moses in some games, I will be willing to give Thorgan Hazard or Lucas Piazon a run out. If we are not, I will tempt United with some money for Nani.

On the game, good squad use. Though we lost the game, the two goals were enough. Very much impressed with Nathan Ake. The boy has very a good sense of space and his use of the ball seems well beyond his age. Thrice now he's played and showed that when called upon, there are some boys that can do a job. Good game by most involved. I don't know what Benayoun does in his spare time. Dude has forgotten how to play football.

JT and David Luiz were in total disarray. Mikel watched on for the 2nd goal. Ake who was further away from play spotted the danger and reacted even quicker.

Moses? Apart from the odd goal this guy scores, I still do not get him. Very poor decision making in the final third every single time he plays. Sublime pass by Lampard for the first goal and a good finish by Torres (20 goals).

Into the semis.

dayokanu: Demba ba Had at least 3-4 face to face chances with the keeper today and he wasted them all How many of such chances does a striker need to score a single goal

Demba ba is a very good striker suffering from inadequate playing time. The same way he suffered the 2nd half of last season
Stop distorting facts. Chicarito, Dzeko score goals even though they don't play regularly.
At least they score more regularly than Ba at Chelsea. The true question is how many of those chances does Ba get per game?
When was the last time Ba got three clear chances in one game?

Secondly, the reason Ba did not score as many goals second half of last season is because he was moved to the wing. Not inadequate playing time.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 7:41pm On Mar 17, 2013
dayokanu: Demba ba might be suffering from not playing regularly Players need confidence.

If Demba has the kind of uninterrupted run Torres had this season 20 straight league games started

He would score more than 7 that The dud has
That is despite the point.
Strikers don't need to play regularly to score goals. I cannot accept that.
How do you explain Chicarito and Le Fondre coming in for the odd minute yet finding the back of the net?

The only explanation leans towards our point of view.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 7:14pm On Mar 17, 2013
Extreme profligacy. We are witnessing the effects of prolonged periods of not scoring - strikers lose confidence. Simple as!
Whether or not he gets it back is debatable but it is evident that Ba has remained far less clinical than he was at Newcastle and has clearly lost confidence. Where have we seen this before?

This subject has been over-flogged on here. Peops will just have to rest in their own halves desperately glued to their own opinions.
Debating this has long become a futile exercise.

-----------

Meanwhile I am getting thrilled by Hazard. The dude is slowly coming into the zone.
Adding goal-scoring to his plethora of attributes could make this dude anything he wants to be.

I still need me an upgrade on Moses.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 9:08pm On Mar 10, 2013
Ibime: Based on goals per minute Demba Ba is averaging a goal every two games which is in keeping with the kinda opposition he's playing, and still 7 times more efficient than shekpe keeper based on goals per minute.

Now no need for disingenuous questions because if Torres wasn't being mollycuddled to play the weakest opposition and still flopping whilst Demba Ba is reserved strictly for the toughest games, then Demba Bas return should be double.

Demba Ba - 4 goals in 700 minutes ie 1 goal every 180 against City, Manure, Swansea, West Brom etc - correct return for those kinda games.

Torres - 1 goal in 950 minutes against Reading, Steau Bucharest and Sparta Prague . . .and that goal was vs Brentford.

No comparison or point to be made
I think you have taken my point out of context. My point was not about who of our 2 strikers has performed better. Rather it is about how Ba has not been anywhere near as prolific as he was with Newcastle, despite the fact that he is playing with better midfield players. Regardless of the the number of minutes he's played.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m):
Absolutely fabulous game with Benitez making intelligent changes at the very crucial moment - which I think was more important than the change itself.

The intelligence in Moses is no where be found and must be the most unintuitive winger I have seen in a while. Lazy and petulant in his forward play.
Lampard had no business in that game. Mikel's introduction stabilized the back and allowed Ramires to push forward. Funny there were boos all around when the sub was announced.

Like Babamide said, the MaZaCar combo, when in form, is our most potent attacking force. Great spirit to get back into the game. I must give a huge credit to David Luiz who played his heart out and forced many things to happen.

2012/13 season most productive player - JUAN MATA!

No one's actually answered how we've manged to turn a striker who had 14 EPL goals before joining Chelsea into one who can barely get a shot on target.

dayokanu: What consistency are you talking about Torres 1 goal in almost 1000mins this year. Compare it to Demba Ba with less time

And see what we have been telling you for ages. Torres is a failed striker
Like I explained earlier, my point is not related to Torres.
2 weeks ago you claimed that the reason Demba didn't have a shot on goal is because it was a tight game and that shots on goal were irrelevant.
2 weeks later, it's a valid point to beat someone else with.

How many goals has Torres scored in the 2013 calendar year in all competitions? Please answer on a Postcard.

The year is already about 70 days old
My argument is not directed toward the striker's performance.
It's the consistency in your argument over the past few weeks.

FBS: Is it me or Hazard is not yet a 90 minutes player?
I don't think that's the case. It's across the board.
Word has it that Rafa reduced intensity and frequency of training to cope with the number of games required to be played by the small squad.
Generally, this usually has an adverse effect on the pace of the game and energy levels.

General performance was very flat. At least Benitez himself can see now that even little boys like Ake can do a job when called upon. For all my following of the youth team, I never saw Nathan play in DM. The likes of Chalobah and Lewis Baker are those I have favoured for DM positions. Who knew Nathan could do a job? Whilst not being outstanding, he didn't look out of place. That's what matters at this level of their football.

Ease up on the moaning Benitez and use some boys. We don't have to play a full strength team against the likes of Brentford, Wigan, Reading and Southampton.

RuuDie: Besides poor defensive awareness, Arsenal simply dallied on the ball too long in attack, even when Giroud came on they didn't launch crosses into the box. Sagna was particularly poor, Arsenal had a bit more joy down his side but did not exploit it.

I still believe Arsenal will prevail...Bayern only just 'look' better than they really are because things are going well for them!
On the basis that Bayern concede very few goals, it's hard to see how Arsenal goes through.
