dayokanu: Does it matter what you do in previous games if you are pants in the current game?

Ronaldo scored 50 goals this season, How much would that count for if he didnt score on Saturday

baggio scored countless penalties, How did that change that he missed a vital one in USA 1994?
You are arguing against yourself.
You are the one who comes here screaming when Lampard a goal or makes a pass.
I don't see you analyzing if he's been pants all game.

Pants all game only matters when you are arguing.

Mikel needs to be carfeul. That's 3 times now he's given the ball away in dangerous areas.

dayokanu: Mata first touch of the second half in 54min and he loses possesion within 1 second with a poor control
It doesn't matter how many sublime first touches Mata has made in the past, it's first class football punditry to point out this single one.
This is why Coogar argues with you.

dayokanu: How come other players even those playing upfront get more touches?

But the balls were evading Mata right?
Because the game plan is not to get Mata involved in the transition to attack.
Drogba is the focal point of attack.

Mata sits behind the attackers and triess to pick up the loose balls and initiates if you like, a second attack in the final third.
If we were not sitting back and breaking, Mata will get on the ball more than anyone and we will be passing the ball.

dayokanu: In the same post you say Lampard has been brilliant yet you agreed with him point

So the question is which of his point do you agree with?
I agreed with the point that you cannot wait for one pass in a game to conclude that a player is not the problem.
That's what Coogar meant.

I disagreed with his point of Lampard being dross in 'THIS' game.

dayokanu: And what happened to mata? I dont think he has touched the ball 3 times
Obviously you've not been watching.
Lampard is more likely to touch the ball because he is playing a deeper role.

Mata up front has not had much of the ball but 3 times? . .
Come on!

he's been dross for 40 mins before the goal!
I am not a big fan of Lamps but he is been anything but dross.
In the game plan, I think he's doing brilliant.

That said, I do support your point.

debosky: I don't disagree that there was an element of wanting more attractive footie, but this desire is at best a distant second or third to winning games. AVB in his naivety did not twig this and instead blindly focused on the 'style'. In the end he delivered neither and was inevitably going to be fired.
Hmmm. Ok Since you 've always believed it was result first and style second maybe a distant third of fourth, why did Roman fire Mourinho?
For your other post, I will respond when I have some time but answer the question above.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by nateevs(m):
If only you read well, you will see I never alluded to the fact that Wigan are a good side.
I only said the reason it takes this long for them to get a good run of games together is because it always takes time for their new signings to blend. If it's just the siege mentality, how come only them can manage it? Why have we not seen other teams go on a run that beats Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Stoke and Chelsea (believe it or not they won that game).

You cannot beat 3 out of the strongest sides in the league (especially back to back) by buying a box of siege mentality at a convenience store. If it's that easy, everyone will do it.

Secondly,

I asked a question which I think deserves an answer.
Why do you think Arsenal has not won the league in 7 years?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Pride Of London by nateevs(m): 1:07pm On Apr 17, 2012
BlueDiva: You have not been able to tell us why AVB failed at Chelsea.
Was it lack of control of the players or playing players out of position or wrong squad selection or what?
To think that RDM and Eddie Newton are using this same folks to achieve is a wonder.
Napoli, Benfica, Spurs have all been defeated.
I think it's safe to say that this is more than just a 'new manager effect'.
I always knew AVB was suspect. cheesy
I happened to have said this when AVB was brought in.
https://www.nairaland.com/bluediva/posts/21
Ok. I am going to tell you why I think he failed and RDM is working.
Everything points back to that day in the boardroom.
Not one of us knows what questions were asked and what demands were made.
However, it is most likely it is one of these two scenarios:-

Scenario 1

AVB we need you to do a job for 3 years. We need you to win trophies. We do not care how you win. Your style, Mourinho's, Hiddink's, Pep's, we don't care. Just get on with it. AVB accepts offer and gets on with the job enforcing his own style. His style does not work but he is stup1d and doesn't revert to the default. It's an open requirement. If this is the case, then you all are right.

Scenario 2
AVB we need you to do a job for 3 years. We need you to win trophies. However, style is of the essence and that is why we employed you. We want positive, attacking football we want silky Barcelona-esque passes. AVB accepts the offer and gets on with the job enforcing the style he believes will achieve the job specifications. The style doesn't but here you can see why he doesn't revert to the default - THe job specification.

Now my argument is Roman paid £13m to release AVB from his contract. If Roman wanted a manager for Scenario 1, anyone will do. However, it will only make sense that scenario 2 is exactly why his release clause was paid. Understanding this scenario helps one see why AVB may not have been willing to revert. . . Not only that, it also explains why RDM can easily revert to default configuration as none of these scenarios were demanded of him. He is brought in to stabilise to ship. How do you do that? Keep the players happy. How do you keep the players happy? Play the way they like.

This is my argument and as long as you see it this way, you cannot make statements about how RDM has managed to was AVB couldn't because for all we know or don't know, AVB's requirements may have been totally different.

Is this not a reasonable opinion to have?

thats just like saying the reason arsenal has not won the league for 7 years is because they lose players every season!! what kind of excuse is that?
So why do you think Arsenal have not won the league for 7 years?
And you must be the first person I have heard on earth who thinks good football is only playable when it's time to escape relegation.

What's the connection between the two?

BlueDiva: If he isn't poo why was he dragging us backwards?
Even if you come up with the theory of players revolting against him, it still means he is a failure. Inability to manage your squad is failure.

AVB lacks the ability to manage a big club.
He should start with clubs like QPR and move up the ranks.
Look Diva, there is a difference between failing and being sh1t for failing.
The latter is what you are claiming.
Even JM lost control of the dressing room at Chelsea.
Please tell me one Manager you know that has never failed.

proudly9ja: How come this team is always struggling against relegation?
Because every summer, they lose players to bigger clubs.
They bring in new players on the cheap and they take time to blend.

If you've looked at Wigan for about 3 seasons, they always pull out this sort of performance towards the end of the season

afrodoc: crossed d line after the foul by terry.
thank God there r people like ibime n debosky here who don't get hoodwinked easily.some people especially d simple minded are easily taken in by technical jargon and nebulous ideas that have no factual effect.discussion abt double 6s and single 8s n playing in btw lines n all other profound tactical discourse is best carried out by coaches like JM,Bielsa n Pep.AVB reminds me of those students in med skool that spend their tym cramming all the complex diseases in d world but when d get to d exams they are felled by such simple questions like 'how do u manage cerebral malaria' and 'how do u manage sickle cell crisis'.AVB couldn't see the wood the wood for the trees and was looking for complex solutions to simple problems.
So how do you explain how he won the league unbeaten, won the Europa league with his players breaking all sorts of records and most importantly the treble in his before Chelsea's? This is where I always come back into this argument.

You miss the premise of the argument always. No single person has said AVB never made mistakes. The debate is where do you draw the line between where he failed to see beyond his own nose and sabotage from within his own camp. If AVB never won anything before he came to Chelsea (and never had a fantastic spell at Academica which got him the Porto job in the first place), I will hold my hands up and say you are right.

However to come here and spew things like what you've written above is totally uncalled for and reeks of personal distaste for AVB rather than an overall logical conclusion. How can you say talking tactics is reserved for some and not for AVB? Do you even realise that this is the tactical side of football and that it is clearly different from man management?

If you look well, Debo and Ibime are not saying he is shit like you and Diva claim, on the contrary the are pointing out the mistakes he made. Ibime especially has been vocal about this calling AVB a top manager at the wrong time at Chelsea and this is why I do not engage Ibime in AVB arguments because it's clear where he is coming from.

I will like to have a logical discussion with you, I just cannot stand when you drag a simple discussion into the gutters just to score points. People are going to have contrary opinions. If not this forum will be one page old.

---------------------------------------------

And for the record, I pulled out that interview not for you to see what AVB's views are on a double pivot defensive system or otherwise, but to buttress my point and counter your POINT 2 - claiming RDM figured Mata could play in the hole. It's not true.

lalaboi: great win. controversial or not. on to the final.

Will winning the Fa cup make up for not getting that 4th spot?
No it won't. . . . Chelsea's earnings from the last Champions League (10/11 season) was in the region of £50m. That's up to a quarter of the club's total revenue for the financial year end. Unless we find smart ways to earn that money, there's no way an FA Cup win can replace qualifying and playing in the CL.

Add that to the need for a major rebuild of the team next season and you can see why.

Ok I am sorry for using the word rubbish to describe your previous posts but this one you've come back with is a sh1t load of absolute rubbish.

You raised three points that in your opinion look lke simple changes.
I come back with a counter against your points. .

I expect you to stay logical and tackle the points in an intelligent manner explaining why you think the new points I have raised don't disprove yours. Instead, you result to gutter yarns. You are knocking a guy discussing tactics in football. . . Is that because you don't know about what he is talking about?

Dude is talking about defensive double pivot as against an attacking double pivot in a midfield of 3.
Anyone who ever studied a little bit of tactics knows this. . . Why are you trying to paint a picture of a simple option in football?

There's nothing simple in football. Every single game requires studying and digesting a lot of stats and analysis.
These allow you prepare for a game and preparation defines the players you choose.

I can understand your dislike for AVB but stay logical when trying to explain why you think he has failed.
Don't resort to cheap abuses and empty posts like some others . .(Let me not name names)

You don't win a treble in a season (and I fucking do not care what league it is) by being all talk and no action.
Name me one perfect manager in history who has a perfect record of translating all they know into achievements on the pitch. . Take the challenge.

Does that then mean that at the time they failed, they are rubbish? This is why I think you display little knowledge of the rudiments of coaching/management; hence you talk rubbish.

You cannot even remember the exact post I made that statement.
Also you didn't remember me saying, the manager bug is the defaulting to "what works" right. . .

You cannot dissociate that statement from the overall premise. It's wrong to argue that way.
