^^ It's always relative, both for the league as a whole and for each individual club.

Do you think buying Ramires for £18m (as an example) is a good deal?
I don't think it is the best deal, I don't think it is a poor one as well. . . . yet.

Of course we were buying bigger -  we bought Henry for £10.5m in 1999, bought Wiltord for £11m in 2000, Pires for £6m the same year. Fast forward 11 years and Arsenal fans will be shocked to the marrow if Wenger spends £15m in an entire season.

While not spending ridiculous sums, there is a clear difference between going out to grab the highest goal scorer in France and waiting for a good striker to be available on a free transfer 10 years later.

The real question is whether the price is realistic in the first place - in a lot of these recent deals, Chelski has been the only bidder with no identified rivals, yet it pays over the odds. That is a clear sign of getting a poor deal.
I think "buying big" is relative. £10.5m in 1999 may be seen as big but considering the fact that Gianluca Viali was transferred for £12m in 1992, Ronaldo £20m in '97 and Christian Vieri £32m in 1999, £10.5m in 1999 isn't much.

Chelsea is the only club that can inflate price in the absence of competition.

Nobody wants Aguero @ £40m, if not they woulda have signed him since. A. Madrid is just waiting for one mugu to take the bait all these years.

Now onto David Luiz matter - the gist is that Chelsea have offered €25m + one youngster valued at €5m (Borini, Rajkovic, Matic or Van Aanholt).

I really hope they're joking about Van Aanholt though!!!
You are wrong mate. Atletico have a buy-out clause written into Aguero's contract for anyone who wants to buy him. Inter bid for him last year, R Madrid bid for him a few days ago and I hear even Fergie has enquired within the last 2 seasons. The thing is none of them ever met the buy out clause. Aguero's buy-out clause was about £50m I hear before he signed a new contract. Aguero knows the reason he's not left Atletico is his buy-out clause. He requested when he signed a new contract that Atletico reduce his buy-out clause to £38m because he knows it's more likely that a club will meet the new buy-out clause invoking his release.

Chelsea bid for him to invoke his release. Not because they worked out by themselves what they think Aguero was worth. Maybe they added 1 or 2 more millions to look more robust, then valued Gordin at around £10 to £12m. I don't think they've done anything wrong.

To Luiz, Matic is most likely to be the one in the deal. Parma are interested in Borini and have been for a while. Van Aanholt has already joined Leicester on loan and I refuse to believe we will give Rajkovic up like that. Top class defender at only 21. Which leaves us with only Matic. There's likely to be a massive clear out in the summer. I hear Roman is planning a big spend. Matic is less likely to feature for Chelsea in the future.

Rubbish. Arsenal don't buy expensive because the club's resource model could not support it - because of that, it had to create an attractive proposition for young players instead, or identify players who were not doing well elsewhere who could excel at Arsenal.

Spending big when necessary is one thing, blowing £18m on someone like Ramires and attempting to spend £20m on a defender from Portugal is another thing entirely.
And when do you suppose the rivised resource model came to being? Are you telling me you were buying big before then? That's no defence dude.
The fact that you are not buying David Luiz and Ramires does not mean you could have bought them cheaper. You can't make it all seem like we are throwing money at them. Have you not desired players in the past few years and you've had to take a step back because of the fee? If Chelsea then come in and buy at the asking price, it does not mean we got a worse deal. It just means we are willing to pay their asking price.

Simple.

Chelsea are magas.
I cannot pay more than £20m for Aguero. Someone who misses 20 games a season through injury.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Diego Godin was a run-of-the-mill, mid-table defender for Villareal. I didn't even know he's at Atletico, and if so, how much did they cop him for?
Some people are disrespecting Chelsea by turning down 52m bid for players who shouldn't cost more than 30m combined. Abi dem write maga for our face.
Another round of useless spending by Abramovic, which will ALL HAVE TO BE REPEATED AGAIN IN 5 YEARS. We call that a HOLE IN THE POCKET!!!
And some punk said, its a coup. Is he talking about Coup d'etat, Chicken Coup or Ford Coupe? Hehehehehe.
I usually agree with you but here mate, you are discussing bollocks.
While I may agree that Aguero may not be a £40m player, saying you won't pay more then £20m is utter crap.

Aguero 2008/09 Season. . . . 41 starts.
           2009/10 Season. . . . 38 starts.
           2010/11 Season. . . . 21 starts. in all competitions.

Where in the world do you get your info from? Which injury prone are you talking about?

I am a massive supporter of buying shrewd in the market. Nothing however stipulates that you have to buy low and sell high. Only clubs like Arsenal reason that way because they know they WILL sell. How about clubs that are not necessarily concerned about selling - ManU, Barcelona et al?

Barcelona for heaven's sake bring the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi through the academy. Yet they still fork out money when they want to Ibrahimovic, David Villa. ManU the same. There's nothing that says we can't spend big if we have to.

I believe the club and Roman know what they are doing this time around. We've been through a lot of phases. We brought the likes of Ben Haim, Sidwell, Pizzarro on a free, they clearly did not work out. We've bought the likes of Ivanovic £8m, Matic £3.5, Matej Delac, Malouda £13m, Anelka £13m, Kalou £7m and even Petr Cech £7m. . It's not all crazy money for all the players we have.

We started out this season trying to use the young ones to bolster the numbers. Now three of them - Kakuta, Pat Van Aanholt and Bruma - are going on loan. JMcE is very much a big part of the first team. That's the club moving in the right direction.

I love the bid. Aguero is a massive who could blow up in playing alongside top class players. I also love the bid because it's a statement of intent to all those who are already looking buyers for Roman.

If we have to spend big, we spend big. As long as we don't do it for every position.

Kakuta may join Fulham on loan.
Kakuta is now having a medical at Fulham and will join them on loan till the end of the season.
Patrick Van Aanholt has left on loan.
Ryan Betrand is back from loan spell and will be cover for left back.

I prefer the fact that we are counterattacking from our own half as opposed to trying to play through 10 Bolton players on the edge of their box.
For many away games, it's the best way to play.
Also Bolton make it easier for us to do so as they won't sit in their half.
Coyle doesn't play that way.
