It's not okay at all. It speaks volume. It shows the mother is not in control of the home as she seems to be of her congregation, or she is preaching different messages to the church and family, or the daughter is not in sinc with her mothers calling. It means to cease to perform or operate. For instance in this context, both living and non living things can die, that is cease to operate. A car can die, a tree can die, an economy can die, a process or operation can die. A plan or decision can die etc. When these things die you know what we mean, that is they become impotent or non functional. That is why we can pray that a witch or wtchcraft power should die. In my church for instance, it's a norm not to eat before coming to church on Sunday. This is basically to prepare you for a spiritual encounter with God.
