Exactly what I wanted to say. We have weak and nonfunctional labour unions in Nigeria that's why employers would keep enslaving their staffs.

Also most Nigerians are desperate. They just want something doing regardless of the working conditions of the place and the amount they receive. Most employers take advantage of their desperation to treat them badly.

I don't subscribe to couples borrowing each other money, cos it wouldn't end well.

If you're in a fix just ask your partner to help you out. That's how we did to our parents. They never borrowed us money. Any marriage where one or both spouses cannot assist each other financially without asking for a refund wouldn't last.

Let me tell you one secrete most people in your current situation don't know yet.

A rich man would hardly give you any money unless you're offering value to him. People pay you for the value you bring and not because they like you or they're friends with you.

My advice to you is to study that your friend and know what exactly he's into. Eg if he's a tiles distributor, liase with engineers then connect them with him and collect a discount. He'll value you more that way because you're offering value to his business.

If you just type an emotional story and send to him, he might read it and ignore. Or send you 10k and ignore you afterwards. Sell your services to him and he'll pay you handsomely for it.

Just open an upwork account and upload your completed projects on your profile. You'll definitely get reasonable paying gigs.

So what I'll advise you to do with that money is to look for a very busy place and set up a POS stand. You can get 3 POS machines of different companies so that network wouldn't hinder you.

That 1m should be enough for you to set up the business. You can run it yourself so that you won't have to worry about paying anyone salary.
