Really doubtful. Almost all certificates now have bar-code at the back. In my school, the barcode contains all your info. from your grades, courses offered, Names and all.

Maybe unless if one's certificate doesn't have this feature.

I feel very bad about this. And I believe the Airline should be seriously dealt with. However, we must know that Airport staff are unfriendly bunch, especially if you are on transit. They would treat you as a suspect, especially if you're a Nigerian - thanks to the few bad egg among us. I could remember once, a Canadian was shoved, kicked n manhandled at Dubai Int'l Airport. This is to say we are not alone in this.
