Katsumoto:You say you get the point that Jarus was trying to make on the one hand, and admonish him on the other, not to compare Northern progressives with Southern progressives such as Beko, Falana, and others. Why not? Jarus' point that there probably exists progressives in the North in as many numbers as there are in the South remains valid. Does being jailed make one more of a progressive than others who have not experienced jail? Please explain your point because its not yet making sense to me. |
One of the most difficult things to do in a public forum is have a discussion with intellectuals and dimwits alike. Dimwits don't know how to stay focused of the point you are making but they randomly decide to create useless points and provide counter points to issues that have already been flogged to death. Sigh. |
Fhemmmy: You, of all people should know that when Nigerians taste power, they will do anything to keep that power. The people arround Yar'Adua are simply fighting to maintain relevance and hang on to Power. Its no longer about Yar'Adua. I'm glad you too think that Yar'Adua, the man, is a good human being. Fhemmmy:If you believe that Yar'Adua is personally guilty of fighting to hang on to power from his sick bed, then I'm afraid our conversation is over and I'll have to admit that your intellectualization of these events is way beyond my comprehension. Have a great day. |
Fhemmmy:Read the bolded portion - You are in agreement with me. So what's your beef? ![]() |
Beaf:You, of all people should know that when Nigerians taste power, they will do anything to keep that power. The people arround Yar'Adua are simply fighting to maintain relevance and hang on to Power. Its no longer about Yar'Adua. I'm glad you too think that Yar'Adua, the man, is a good human being. |
Fhemmmy:I did not claim that Yar'Adua is a great leader, I said he is a good and decent person. You sabi read at all? Anyway, no vex say I call you olodo, you be correct guy, my guy. ![]() The rakumin dajij is Beaf. |
Beaf:Yar'Adua's handlers, his brother, Turai, Fhemmy and Beaf, are not Yar'Adua. Yar'Adua is the most decent human being that has ever become Nigeria's ruler in the past 35 years at least. if you have evidence to the contrary, please present it. @Fhemmy, you be olodo, rakumin dajij. |
@Fhemmmy, you dey find trouble. I go momentarily give you a pass, but you dey press ya luck. Try to focus on my statements and address them accordingly instead of bringing up issues you know nothing about. I no wan fight, I don warn you. If you believe its in good taste to continue to kick the most decent human being we've ever had as a President, while he is down and gravely ill, then that is your palaver. I will not participate in that evil act. I repeat, let the man be. Enough is enough. |
Fhemmmy:Why are you talking like a simpleton? Do you really believe that Yar'Adua is in a position to direct his handlers and NL posters to perform the deplorable acts I mentioned? Take ya time o, if na joke make you stop. That question you asked is quite revealing, to say the least. |
naijaking1:The insensitivity of some of the posters on this thread and distasteful acts of some of Yar'Adua's handler's are equally deplorable and reprehensible. Yar'Adua himself has absolutely nothing to do with these distastful acts. He is a good man and decent human being. |
netotse:Its time for Jonathan to take the USA up on their offer to provide technical expertise to Nigeria and help us generate 10,000MW by 2011. The US Government has already comitted $500,000 towards through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) t this end and are have kicked-off a two-week programme to highlight its activities in the country. This is a great development: US technical assistance to aid Nigeria's 10,000mw target |
Fhemmmy:Who is stopping you from having fun? These people are adults and I submit to you that even you are better off by the contents of the dialogue. If ethnic bigotry is identified, it must be exposed. If a person is accused of being a bigot, he/she should be able to defend him/herself or futher expose him/herself as a true ethnic bigot in the process. What if I accuse you of being a 98Ib weakling because you are a peacelover who is not enjoying a fun exposé? ![]() |
Most of the posts here are insensitive and in very very bad taste. Will you people allow Yar'Adua to fall ill and get well peacefully. You are beginning to sound like insensitive and obsessed ethnic bigots. I bet none of you will claim to be a Northerner. Yar'Adua is a good man, let him be. |
Sky Blue:Would you be kind enough to tell us the reason why your rep did not initiate impeachment proceedings? Iit only takes one rep to do the initiation? By the way, there is nothing naive in acknowledging that some information available to your reps may be classified for security reasons. Even your governments in diaspora keep classified documents away from you. |
Sky Blue:We have a democracy that is at its infancy, I'm afraid we'll have to work within its constitutional provisions. It is better than living under military rule. We will amend our constitution as we go along, everyone knows that it is not yet perfect. I'm afraid no amount of emotional outburst by you or anyone else can take away Jonathan's executive powers at the moment. Go and file a lawsuit and see if you'll find a judge who will overturn the resolutions that empowered Jonathan. Who cares whether Jonathan can travel abroad? He needs to stay in the country since he does not have much time - what the heck does he need to be running around for? He has work to do. Once again, go and convince your senators and reps to start an impeachment proceeding. They have all the information you have and are privy to other classified information, so if they believe they'll secceed, they should try to impeach Yar'Adua. This is how democracy works, you of all people should know this. |
Sky Blue:My observation is based on the fact that most of the noise makers admit that they live in diaspora. Do you reside in Nigeria by any chance? Are you the lone protester in front of the national assembly reportedly carrying placards? You asked what would happen if something happens to Jonathan - well, we'll go to the constitution and find ways to deal with it. We still have the parliament who can pass resolutions. Lastly, please list Yar'Adua's impeachable offenses. Have you contacted your senator or rep to inquire about why an impeachment proceeding has not yet been instituted? |
vangogh:I couldn't agree with you more, particularly regarding the bolded text above. Rascality and cyber thuggery have no place in governance. People who did not vote in the last election, who are doing nothing to encourage others to vote in 2011, and will not themselves vote in 2011, are coming here with dumb analysis and postulations. Jonathan has full executive powers and about a year to use that power, lets give him a chance to do so. We do not need the drama of impeachment at this time, besides, NASS will not impeach the man. I don't see our cyber revolutionists marching to the national assembly and demanding that an impeachment proceeding be instituted. |
vigasimple:Please examine the electorate, consider how informed they are about their candidates, what motivates them to vote, and their level of indifference. I think you'll quickly find that voting out PDP enmass is practically impossible in 2011. Regarding the opposition, I suspect that they've been briefed on Yar'Adua's actual status and they know that he is not permanently incapacitated. Secondly, they may also be privy to security reports that may indicate that the threat of coup is very real, hence they decided to play it safely. What is your objection to the compassion argument that the governors put forth? Jonathan has full executive powers at the moment, and can exercise them fully until 2011 - what is wrong with helping Yar'Adua heal by providing him with the best possible health care while Jonathan rules? vigasimple: There is something called REVOLUTION, and unless it comes quickly and bloody, our captors will not set us free like the Herod in the bible who refuses to set the Isrealites free even when there was plague in their midst. If you truly believe the above, what tangible contributions have you made in furtherance of this goal? Are you organizing any such revolution, or is this just wishful thinking or venting? |
ABUJA—ON a compassionate ground and sympathy for the first family, the Governors of the 36 states of the federation last night rose in strong defence against any impeachment move against ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua, insisting also that his resignation is not an option. Rising from a crucial meeting with Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, at his official residence, Aguda House, the governors under the auspices of the Governors’ Forum also moved against any further effort by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, especially the planned submission of the report of the six-man team that visited Saudi Arabia, to FEC today at its weekly meeting. The Acting President had told cabinet members at a meeting that preceded the last week cancelled FEC meeting that the report would be submitted today at FEC for discussion; which many believed would have ignited the invocation of the controversial section 145 of the 1999 Constitution. Rather than encouraging his sympathizers to continue with the ongoing political fireworks with those loyal the President Yar’Adua, the Governors prevailed on Jonathan to direct his energy to the critical developmental needs of the country, as he continue to preside over the affairs of the state, in acting capacity. The Governors also pledged their unflinching support for the various moves so far taking by Jonathan to stabilize the polity, especially the recent constitution of the 25-man Presidential Advisory Council, headed by Lt. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma; saying that they expect more of such actions in the near future. Goodluck Jonathan and Yar'Adua in the early days of the administration. The meeting which was billed for 8:00 pm did not however commence until at about 8:30 pm and ended at 10:00 pm also enjoined top officials of the presidency to exercise highest level of restraint in their comments both for and against President Yar’Adua and Acting President Jonathan, so as not to overheat the already heated polity. At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki, Governor Akpabio of Akwa Ibom and Governor Timipreye Sylva fielded questions from State House Correspondents, saying that “we did not discuss that. We noted that the president has returned to the country and we noted the need for him to recuperate and get better soon before he can think of assuming duty”. “For us the issue of his resignation is not an option for now. For us what is important is for us to be compassionate, to be sympathetic and to realise that anybody no matter highly placed, even if you are a Christian and you are a Pope can get ill. Thank God he is back now and he is recuperating and we are satisfied that recovery is on the way. We are praying for him. According to Saraki, “we congratulated the acting president for stabilising the polity country at the moment. And we in return, pledged our support to the acting president during this trying time. We encouraged and said he is doing a good job and that he has the full support of the Governors Forum in this exercise. “We agreed to have regular consultations during this period among the Forum. He also educated us on a number of issues, for example on the Presidential Advisory Council that was set up, the reason behind it and other things. “By and large, we emphasized the need for government to work very hard to ensure that we all play our role to provide leadership at this crucial time and the need to talk to members of government to ensure that some of the comments made are well guided. “At the end of the day, we acknowledge what he is doing and appreciate it and we said that the 36 governors will support the acting president for this country to move forward. “We have expressed that we are happy to see the president back in the country. We have also said we should separate the two issues. The return of the president to the country is an indication that there is progress in his recovery process. “And that does not at all deviate from what decision we took as a Forum where we all decided that a political solution to provide a resolution for the Vice President to act as the President. And that is still the position”, he said. Source:http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/03/02/yaradua-impeachment-resignation-not-options-govs/ This was not surprising and its in good taste. |
I don't believe the FEC will consider voting Yar'Adua permanently incapacitated tommorrow in light of this report. If the report is accurate, then Yar'Adua cannot be deemed permanently incapacitated - maybe temporarily incapacitated (which is not enough to trigger impeachment). Time will reveal how ambitious Jonathan really is. |
@Beaf, stop preaching to the choir. When are you going to be honest enough to admit that the main point of the article's author is valid? Could your reluctance be due to bigotry? Anyway, have a great day. I think you've been exposed already. ![]() |
naijaking1:Oh boy, you need to start a new thread to address the issues you've raised above. It suffices to say that the proverbial son of the slave owner did not benefit from the said slavery. Almajiris for example, remain one of the most marginalized Nigerians. The main point of the article presented by the OP is that there is absolute political naivety of the average southerner and even the educated ones such as yourself. The southerner (their opinion leaders as well as the common folk) would time and again take a perfectly legitimate national struggle and convert into a regional or tribal one. You are yet to dispute this point. |
Should they leave Yar'adua alone because it is the right thing to do or just to patronize him? In your opinion, is section 144 and impeachment unnecessary in the present situation? Do you think that he has behaved with grace that he deserve to be 'left alone'? And this idea that Jonathan cannot travel out, where does it come from. Maybe, US was without a commander in chief when Obama visited Ghana. Maybe, 'southern political naivety' as you called it in the other thread is disturbing me too.
I think at this point our president needs to be given the best healthcare we can muster, it is the right thing to do. I'm also of the opinion that even if Yar'Adua is in a comma, you will not find any medical team that will unanimously proclaim that he is permanently incapacitated. A temporary incapacitation is not enough to trigger impeachment. Besides the whole process will probably take another 6 months - a complete waste of time and resources. You asked whether Yar'Adua has behaved with grace and the answer to that is absolutely Yes. Yar'Adua is a good man. He has not been in the position to control his handlers for obvious reasons. His handlers are the ones that have not been graceful and Jonathan needs to clip their wings as soon as possible. Please note that when Obama visited Ghana, his vice president remained in the USA. I have no reason to believe that you are naive in any way, your questions are quite valid and reasonable. |
Beaf:Everyone who can read knows that you are being disingenuous in this case. You continue to refuse to admit the main point of the article. Keep burying you head in the sand in denial - we already know that your neck is longer than that of an ostrich, Rakumin dajij ![]() |
One would think that every minister would want to be present at tommorrow's FEC meeting. The timing of this trip is very interesting. I think a deal has already been struck with Jonathan as to whether or not section 144 will be invoked. Let them leave Yar'Adua alone, forget section 144 and impeachment. Jonathan has all he needs to run the country. The only issue is that Jonathan cannot travel out of the country because we will then be without a commander in chief while he is gone. Geez. |
Beaf:I've told you countless times that the common enemy is the elite who hail from every region of the country. Additionally I told you that the most marginalized Nigerians are the Almajiris of the North and the people of the ND. We must continue to fight for the liberation of all Nigerians from the stranglehold of this elite who come from North/South/East/and West. Your internet rants, rascality, and thuggery has not changed the main point of the article presented by the OP wherein it was stated is that there is absolute political naivety of the average southerner and even the educated ones such as yourself. The southerner (their opinion leaders as well as the common folk) would time and again take a perfectly legitimate national struggle and convert into a regional or tribal one. You can rant all you want and even insult the victims of the said marginalization, the point of the article remains valid as your yaps have also confirmed. |
LOL, Wonders shall never end. Ibori is now a Northerner, Alams will also become a northerner, and all our enemies - the elite who hail from North/South/East, and West are all fighting for Northern interests and by your definition are Northerners. You are a very bright Ijaw person, dirimo eweri, rakumin dajij. |
I suspect that any Northerner appointed by Jonathan to head any high powered commision will be labelled "member of the Northern Cabal" by bigots who will always take a perfectly legitimate national struggle/issue/affair and convert into a regional or tribal one. |
Beaf:ranke dede means "May you live long", that is a prayer that is appropriate for your peers and leaders alike. Would you tell us the phrases Southerners of the ND used to worship Ibori and sing the praises of Alams after his escape from British authorities? I bet you those phrases were more like "We worship thee". naijaking1:We are no longer under millitary rule and I'm not about to defend the action of any dictator. Anyone can claim to be fighting for the interest of whatever group he/she desires. The rebuttal you mentioned above is useless and unnecessary as far as the article we are discussing is concerned. The main point of the article is that there is absolute political naivety of the average southerner and even the educated ones such as naijaking1 and beaf. The southerner (their opinion leaders as well as the common folk) would time and again take a perfectly legitimate national struggle and convert into a regional or tribal one. When are you people going to deal with this issue? That point remains valid even here on NL. |
@naijaking1 & Beaf, I dey go come, i go edit this post in an hour. make una no gloat yet. |
Beaf:You have to admit that the so called Northerners you love to castigate have historically out maneuvered you politically. Its time for you to learn from them and form your own interest groups that can operate within a democratic setting. Its time for you people to learn how to do break dancing, twist is out dated; come out of the creeks, polish yourselves, give up on criminal activities and participate in our growing democracy. You must also learn to get along with your immediate neighbors as well. |
Beaf:LOL, you people must learn how to operate in a democratic arena. If I were you, I'd publish my own rejoinder to the said article. You people will have to come out of the bush sooner or later. You have been taken out of the bush to overseas, the onus is now on you to remove the bush from within Now let me put on protective gear. |
