Beaf:Please educate me, who are your leaders if not the thieving governors and the oil bunkering millitants? The political stupidity of your leaders including Asari, is beyond belief. The ND have the best chance in the history of Nigeria to have their needs met by Jonathan, but instead of supporting the man, your leaders were disowning him, skimming to prevent him from becoming acting President, and issuing senseless and ill timed statements. These leaders of yours are obviously not in the loop, they were not properly briefed. This shows that you people are novices in the political arena. Your leaders do not want peace because it is not in their own interest (money from oil bunkering/kidnapping). You all should be rallying arround Jonathan instead of making these unnecessary pronouncements. It will take less than a few weeks to bring you people to order if you dare announce a seccession - unfortunately, the likes of you will escape because you are already hiding in South Africa or Europe. |
Onlytruth:You conveniently failed to accept responsibility for mistakes made by biafran commanders, but you have another chance to respond. What's your response to the rest of the man's post? See below: Ojukwu and Awo have their faults, u can`t blame Awo without blaming Ojukwu, the guy could have saved many if only he had surrendered before the food ran out. How can u fight without food and weapons. He took people on a suicide mission, and then he himself fled. |
Beaf:You people are preparing to leave the country, ko? Are you all moving to the Atlantic ocean to form colonies on floating vessels? You have apparently learnt nothing from the biafran experience. You are ill equipped to orchestrate a secession, your leaders are thieves and criminals, there is no great leader of conviction like Ojukwu in your midst, and you have no regional support. You people are dellusional and politically unsophisticated. |
agabaI23:I can assure you that Jonathan has seen Yar'Adua. He wept at seeing the condition Yar'Adua is in - you will see a Jonathan that is very protective of Yar'Adua in the coming days. |
agaba123 & Fhemmmy, you people have been watching too many mystery movies. Jonathan has executive authority, Yar'Adua has released all his aides and they now take orders from the acting President. This is the best outcome of this crisis, Jonathan will make sure that Yar'Adua is well taken care of. Expect investments to pour into Nigeria in the coming weeks; expect stability in the ND area. No need to worry in the short term. What exactly are you people afraid of? Deals have been made, some members of the kitchen cabinet may remain, but Jonathan must replace some of them. |
Fhemmmy:I think the main point here is that we may be even much closer to closure. There is no longer have any doubt as to who is in charge - it is Jonathan and Yar'Adua himself has accepted it. Let's wish Jonathan and Yar'Adua well. I think we have escaped a major crisis and possible coup. |
Ailing President, Umaru Yar’Adua yesterday acknowledged Goodluck Jonathan as the nation’s Acting President. In a broadcast, the Senior Special Adviser to the President, Segun Adeniyi, who read a note from the ailing president, said all aides in the presidency, including all those who just returned from Saudi Arabia, are to work under the acting president until President Yar’Adua fully recovers. In an interview with newsmen, Mr Adeniyi said, “We run one presidency and the Acting President has already called for a meeting and I believe the meeting will hold tomorrow to brief us on how things will go and how he will run the presidency and everybody is included, especially those who just returned from Saudi Arabia. So it’s just one presidency and we are all under Mr Jonathan now as the acting president and commander in chief until the president returns to office fully.” He also said it was unfair for people to say Turai Yar’Adua has taken over power, because Jonathan wanted to pay her a visit, adding that Mr. Jonathan paying a visit to the first family is the right thing to do. “It’s been very unfair to the first lady at the time she is nursing her husband. So there is no such thing and you don’t expect the Acting President to report to the first lady, it is abnormal and it won’t happen. What the Acting President actually said was that he was going to see the first lady and ask about the husband, that is the president, and probably see him. To me, it is a normal situation, which I believe, is the natural thing to do.” Mr. Adeniyi said. On the relationship between the president and Mr Jonathan, Mr Adeniyi said “Good. Very cordial relation. I know for a fact that when the president was in Saudi Arabia medical report of the president was being sent to the Acting President on the instruction of the president. The last one last Friday, Dr. Salisu, the president’s chief physician, sent to the Acting President through the ambassador, I was copied, I have a copy of the medical report on the president’s health.” Source: http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5532043-146/yaradua_confirms_jonathan_as_acting_president.csp |
Onlytruth:Onlytruth, abi na onlypessimism, your cup is half empty rather than half full, olodo. I'm not a shrink - you are on your own. |
henry101:For balance, please provide us with a link to Max Siollun's article which the article you are referencing is a rejoinder to. Thanks. |
Jarus:Excellent point. The governor accused you of being sponsored probably because he himself was guilty of sponsoring journalists to oppose his adversaries. There may indeed be sponsored NLers. |
kaecy5:Our people talk say, ruwan akamu, akamu ne; omi ẹkọ, ẹkọ ni; in other words akamu(pap) water na pap. Go figure. @OP, do you know the song breaking up is hard to do? abi na Breaking up is impossible to do? |
CyberG:What an intellectual answer to a hypothetical question from a highly intelligent person, albeit a stalker as well! www.nairaland.com/attachments/180447_ROTFLMAO_gif3d0c775232c7f27cf80592785b9635b6 |
Jarus, I'm not sure of the said sponsorship but I wouldn't be surprised if the said opponents and even Fashola himself are nairalanders. I know of some very unexpected political bigwigs who have posted on NL. Most of the players are online 24/7. |
Afam:Afam, I've always stated that I'm a Nigerian, you can continue to believe what you wish regarding my state or tribe. I'd suggest that you focus on issues instead of tribes or states of origin, bigotery is never helpful. I know you are a stubborn person who needs his ego massaged to feel important. Just note that you will be called to order whenever you are found running arround loose in the village, olodo. |
CyberG:First, let me state that your cyber gansterism will have zero effect on me, so your threats are completely empty. You state in item (a) above what privileges a sinner cannot get, ko? Just remember that you yourself are a sinner and that staement must apply to you as well. In item (b) you state that God will not answer the prayers of deceitful, lying, cheating, evil people. Let's assume that you believe that Yar'Adua has all of those traits, don't you know that people that have these traits are the ones that need our prayers the most? If you do not have those traits, according to you, your prayers will be answered, so if you pray for Yar'Adua, then your prayer will be answered. Yar'Adua may not be in the position to pray for himself at this point. There is absolutely nothing wrong with praying for Yar'Adua's healing, period. |
Afam:Your intellectual dishonesty is appalling. You were running arround that thread like a crazy market woman accusing me of lying even after I accepted the fact you pointed out. It is as clear as a whistle that your aim was to reduce Igbo complicity in the coup. That is your right, continue to do that at every opportunity you have - the truth will always be exposed. |
Events of the past 24-48 hours has made it clear to me that the participants in the so-called North/South power sharing agreement plan to honour the agreement by hook or crook. Even if Yar'Adua is brain dead and on a life support machine, he can be kept alive until 2011, frustrating any effort by Jonathan to rule the country or plan to run for office in 2011. I suspect that Jonathan does not have the guts to make the necessary power play he needs to fully wrestle power away from the North - he apparently does not control the millitary and is afraid to replace the ministers with people who will be loyal to him. I submit to you that within 1 year, Jonathan can make very significant inroads. He could bring about lasting peace in the ND, and work with the Americans who have promised to help Nigeria's power generation sector to increase capacity to 10,000MW by 2011! If Jonathan can achieve these 2 things, he will be endeared to Nigerians forever. Jonathan is still young and can always run as a Southern candidate in 2015 - not necessarily with PDP. My question to forumites is this: Is it time for Jonathan to announces that he will not run for office in 2011? I think if he does that, the power grabbers may give him a free hand to rule for the next 12 months or so. Jonathan is now like a teenager boy that has just been disvirgined and who will spend the rest of his life chasing skirts (toto). He has tasted power and his best chance to rule may come in 2015 if he plays his cards right. Jonathan's hidden ambition to run in 2011 may be ill advised and naive. |
CyberG:Don't quote your bible out of context and remember that judgement belongs only to God alone. It suffices to note that Yar'Adua is a human being like you and I; we are no better than he is - we are simply human. If Yar'Adua has offended you personally, you are required according to the bible you are referencing, to forgive him and if you are filled with anger and an unforgiving spirit, does that make you a better person than Yar'Adua? Additionally, the gift of life comes from God alone - I assure you that you don't know whether you will out live Yar'Adua. Check yourself before you come her to tell us what prayers God will or will not answer, olodo. |
CyberG:CyberG, Please show decorum, the OP has a point. Yar'Adua is quite ill and is in no position to be orchestrating the power play that we are seeing. Yar'Adua needs our fervent prayers - he is actually a very good human being. You wouldn't wish your own father, spouse, or children dead before their time would you? Your anger and frustration is misdirected in this case. |
Katsumoto:Technically you are correct. For us, Ifeajuna was less of a leader at the time the coup was executed because as you stated, Nzeogwu completed his objectives while Ifeajuna did not. Thanks for the information. @Onlytruth, Katsumoto has done justice to your request. |
mikeansy:Thanks mikeansy. The bottom line is that Nzeogwu, who led the 1966 coup was an Igbo man. This fact simply buttresses the point I was trying to make regarding perceptions of Northerners after the coup. |
Katsumoto:I may have been vindicated by this thread. I stated that Kaduna Chukwuma Nzeogwu was from the East in order to support the point that the Northerners believed that the 1966 coup was lead by an Igbo man, and in their minds, it was a Igbo coup. Afam jumped all over the statement claiming that my statement was a blatant lie design to distort history. Even after I accepted, for the purposes of the discussion, that Nzeogwu was not from the East, Afam continued to state that I told an intentional lie while continuing to ignore the main point I was trying to make. It now turns out that fellow Igbos claim Nzeogwu is Igbo, exposing the hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty in Afam's rants. Your statement that some Igbo people claim Nzeogwu is from the mid-west just because they want to reduce Igbo complicity in the coup, is spot on. Wonders shall never end. I hope Afam can dispute the claims of asha80 that Nzeogwu is Igbo to redeem himself. |
netotse:I for one, have not been hiding. This is the first time that I've seen this topic in this section, I've been otherwise posting on threads about MEND and the bashing of Northerners e.t.c. By the way I agree with you that biina and beaf's positions can be harmonised. I also think if Goodluck Jonathan takes the US government up on the offer to help build our generation capacity to 10,000MW by 2011, we will see significant improvements. Let's hope the transmission system will be upgraded in tandem with the construction of this new generation plants to ensure that the transmission system can handle the new load (as you pointed out earlier). |
netotse:I meant sell for pennies my brother, but with very specific and stringent conditions. There must be a requirement to rebuild the infrastructure by investing a lot of money that would have been used to purchase distribution assets - this will produce very quick results. The said N8billion/month revenue could become N80billion/month in no time at all resulting to cool tax revenues for the government. All in all, your point is well taken. |
I hereby call Beaf and Biina to orderrrrrrrrrr!! I've skimmed through their posts and they are both very passionate about their positions on the matter. Basically, Beaf is stressing decentralization while Biina is not. I venture to say that they are both completely wrong, as a practical matter in their positions. The solution lies in a combination of what they are both saying. Beaf appears to be a physicist (na him dey help MEND rig explosives, olodo), but he has ignored certain important facts. I will add that biina has ignored some of these facts as well. First of all, I submit to to that if we Nigeria were able to generate 10,000MW of power today, most households would not see a significant change in the interruptibility of power supply to their homes. This is because electricity cannot be stored and must be used when produced, you cannot as a practical matter store 5,000MW in any capacitor. You see, the generated electricity must pass through transmission lines, poles, transformers, and copper wires etc before they get to our houses. Unfortunately, we have broken circuits all over the distribution systems that cause electricity to take the most inefficient routes before they get to our homes, that is if they make it there in the first place. The distribution system has been basically destroyed by Igbo boys who steal copper within the system for sale in ariara market. Ok OK, don't crusify me, that was a cheap shot, I apologize to by Igbo brothers. I meant to say, vandals and thieves steal copper and even poles, seriously contributing to the said inefficiency.Without writing 10pages of text, here is my summary as to how things should be organized: Transmission: The Transmission system in Nigeria is the only electrical system that works, we even transmit electricity to Ghana and Niger republic and other countries. We are unable to use all of the 2000 - 4000MW capacity and since we can't store the energy, we end up transmitting abroad. The government should keep control of the transmission grid. The transmission system in the control of the wrong people could pose a very real security thread, hence the feds should maintain control here. Generation: The government can continue to participate in this phase, but encourage and provide more incentives for IPPs such as GENCOS, TRANSYSCO, DISCOS, and others. Additionally, tax breaks and other incentives should be given to corporations, states, and local governments who wish to build small generation plants to power their operations wherein their excess power can be supplied into the nation's power grid. Distribution This area provides the best opportunity for complete decentrilization. The usual suspects mentioned above steal copper and other equipment including transformers with impunity. If these assets are owned by for profit corporations, the thieves will not get away with these thefts since corporations will take appropriate steps to safeguard their assets. My proposal here is for this sector to be completely decentralized. The feds should sell these assets for pennies to preferably, joint ventures of proven utilities with international reach and indigenous companies. There are several utilities that operate internationally. For example, I know of a Utility company with operations in US, UK, and several South American companies. The problem in the national assembly is not different from what we see with Beaf and Biina - swollen headedness instead of reasonableness and discussions without abuses. I suspect Beaf is not used to cool headed discussions because he has been hardened by MEND activities, olodo. |
Beaf:Beaf, so olodo now means fullstop to you, ko? Who be the copy copy now? Wait make I read una posts finish, I suspect say biina get stronger points. I dey go come. |
Beaf:Beaf, If the president is ill and he communicates with aprliament that he is going away for treatment, section 145 kicks in until the president returns fully recovered. That is where we are - as long as the man is in Nigeria and receiving treatment, I don't think the current FEC will vote that he is incapacitated, forcing section 144 to kick in. Jonathan Goodluck, now armed with the information that Yar'Adua himself is not physically able to take over, can replace those ministers that are not in line with his vision. He needs to do this in the next few days if he has any guts. I'm glad that Yar'Adua is recovering, may God heal the man. He is being used without regard to his well being - what a pity. @ziddy, Don't forget that executive authority lies with Jonathan at the moment. He has the keys to CBN volts. |
Beaf:I think you are on to something here, Africom will soon be ready to help resolve the terrorist, bunkering, and kidnapping issue in the ND, with the approval of Jonathan. Jonathan has already approved N15b for projects in the region. All these things bode well for the people of ND, but not for the terrorists members of MEND. It was reported yesterday that Ateke Tom's house was just raided for starters. |
Beaf:Don't underestimate the political sagacity and genius of certain quarters who are bent on retaining power 2011 and beyond. This return of Yar'Adua was well planned and orchestrated with the full knowledge of Jonathan, George W. Bush, Condolesa (spelling), and other top officials in Nigeria. I suspect that the whole thing was designed to prevent the invocation of section 144 which would oust Yar'Adua for good. They know that Jonathan is a weaklin that would not have the guts to force the FEC into action while Yar'Adua is in Nigeria. The only way Yar'Adua leaves office before 2011 is if he dies. From the information I have, the presidential quarters have been well equipped to sustain anyone on life support system for years! Goodluck Jonathan needs to assert himself immediately by telling the country the true condition of Yar'Adua and by sacking all the members of the kitchen cabinet immediately! Jonathan is still the acting President. Yar'Adua must prove that he is fit and well enough for office before he can take over from Jonathan. Mallam Goodluck, wey your balls? make you no let Turai and Yar'Adua people control you, or we no go remember you well for history. |
I dey lookoo and lafuu!!! We are told that Yar'Adua left at 10:22 p.m. (1922 GMT) alone in a plane and another plane carried Nigerian government envoys, it must be because the first plane is an ambulance necessary to protect him from infection, we pray the first plane is not carrying a dead body. We are very close to closure. My sympathy goes to Beaf and his ![]() |
@OP, May the soul of the dead person rest in peace. As many posters have said, it is unlikely that the phone call ignited the petrol. The more likely culprit is static electricity. A static discharge occurs from the build up of static electricity on a person, usually from friction that occurred inside the house or car, between the carpet, furniture, seat, and a whole host of other material, and the said person. This discharge can cause the ignition of the highly explosive gasoline vapor by opening the gas tank or gasoline container. As a general rule, I make sure that whoever is filling up my tank or I, just touch some metal before pumping the fuel or pouring the petrol, to get rid of any static electricity. That will ground or discharge the static electricity and eliminate potential harzard. |
citizenY: Haba \Diplomatic ,Parliamentary and security speak should have taken place within the last 80 days or so and all these guys have been sitting on theirThese people are playing games with us. George W Bush was in Nigeria with Condellesa Rice just a few days ago, and I'm sure he knows the precise condition of Yar'Adua. They know that he is not coming back to rule hence their announcement that the world supports Jonathan - Bush is one of the bests friends of the Saudi King. I also believe that Jonathan knows the real deal about Yar'Adua. The ministers who went to Saudi Arabia should all be removed as soon as they return. They are all dishonourable men, blatant liars, and possibly criminals who belong in jail. |
