Gerrard59:
Last weekend, I participated in an African-themed event and we (a little group) had lunch opposite the venue. A Ghanaian, Beninouse, two Kenyans, a Ugandan and a Namibian. One of the Kenyans, a lady, narrated how Nigerians are troublesome in the country. What crimes do they commit, I asked. She narrated with grief and sorrow that Nigerians are behind the gruesome murder of young Kenyan girls and afterwards, they dump the bodies near bushes and dumpsites. What about the Somalians? "They are not troublesome and even bring business to the country". The Ghanaians? "Those ones are not troublesome either" What about South Africans? "Oh, they are the best! They follow the rules and mind their business. The problem is Nigerians". The Ugandan interjected to say that "Nigerians are very cunny to which they equate it as "smartness"". I felt bad and apologised but reminded her that back in Nigeria, it is actually a ritual (pun unintended) to have young girls murdered for simply no reason. Furthermore, I told her that whenever these Nigerians are arrested, they should be hanged, no ifs or buts! They should not allow Ruto's in-law who is a Nigerian to lobby anything but deal with the perpetrators brutally, thoroughly, and mercilessly. Also, I advised that Kenya should put up restrictive border controls against Nigerians regardless of what they opine.

When I condemn crime, Ndi lovey-dovey will accuse me of being an Uncle Tom. Tomorrow, ignorant and arrogant Nigerians will say Kenyans are xenophobic when they get angry as their young women's bodies are mutilated. Yes, mutilated as certain body parts are nowhere to be found upon recovery of the dead bodies. Apparently, the gIaNtS of Africa have carried their "rituals make one rich mentality" outside the borders of Nigeria.

"smartness".
You said it all. That so called smartness is what has placed us in the current state we are as a country and people. If you want to know a bunch of nigerians, give them a traffic junction and see the road get blocked, chocked, give that same junction to others and see traffic flow easily. The fact you drive one way while others are queue does not make you smarter.
Those days you can enter the UK as a Nigerian and open a bank account easily, even get credit cards etc. But of course as usual Nigerians opened those accounts and used them for fraud, took credit and dodged etc. Now it is almost impossible to open accounts. Not just in UK, but all over the world. Is that smartness? A friend told me if a Nigerian friend that took £50k loan and returned to naija, saying after 5 years the debt will be wiped out of the system as bad debt and his name cleared by the banks. Is that "smartness"? At the end if the day, oyinbo learns and further blocks the system even for genuine Nigerians. Before you issue cheques and it was as good as cash, Nigerians spoilt it, using it to rip people, now onyibo will hold your cheque till it clears before offering you service. Heck even a Nigerian with history of fraudulent credit card transactions is now a serving governor with complete control of the treasury of a state. No be juju be dat?

Nigerian businesses lacks perpetuity and succession plan all because of greed. Observe Dangote, once he is gone, all he built is gone
That is why he goes public after a while with most businesses he sets up.

Truth of the matter is that no public owned organisation in Nigeria can work. Fact. Nigerians are too smart in a negative way. Even those that come with a clear set mind and with good intentions will get frustrated, called different names. As wike once warned university professors to remain in academics and leave politics, or come and join politics so we rub you in mud, as politics is a dirty game. Lol
Naija airways was an airline of choice back in the day, ran by well trained professionals, until naija showed itself. We flew it as kids in the 70s and 80s, 707s,dc 10s, 747,later a310s. Politicians, staff etc started crap, first with free tickets. From family to friends, house girls, girl friends etc. Half of the flight will be free flight. It got so bad, staff tarted selling free tickets, lol.
Plane will be full and ready to depart, but will be delayed as one big man is on his way. (some sultan even tried it recently with airpeace). You will pay for 1st class 747, but not allowed upstairs as captains chicks occupy the place. As half the flight is free ticket, no more money to buy petrol abroad, or if there is money, someone will chop it and tell pilot to "raise funds". Stranded passangers will then have to contribute money to buy fuel as no fuel seller will sell to naija airways on credit due to heavy igbese. Your baggage nko? That one was snacks for handling staff.
Early 2000, one abroad returnee ex naija airways captain restarted the airline with 2 or so leased aircrafts, I flew with them to UK for around 50k, nice flight, kept to time, etc. But the usual naija curse came in the form of the female aviation minister that was alleged to have frustrated them for her personal interest. Apparently she had interest insetting up an airline with foreigners. First thing she did was to instruct all revenue be forwarded to Abuja, ie aviation ministry. Then approval will be given for expenditure.
So they want to buy fuel, catering, tissue, etc, they will wait for ministry to approve and release money at their convenience. Omo, the airline ran down.
With how naija is setup, no public business can work, be it nnpc, nnsl( Abi una no know say we get shipping line before?), refinaries, ajaokuta steel etc.
We are too smart, so tay over smartness de kill us.

Career / Re: Indians Taking Over Jobs In Oil And Gas’, PENGASSAN Raises Alarm by nedekid: 3:30pm On Aug 24
So be it, if it will get the country working.
One question I want to ask the average Nigerian here on Nairaland, your vehicle, who will you give it to be fixed if you see two local mechanic workshops, one staffed by Nigerians or the other staffed by Indians or Pakistani mechanics, even togolese? The other day, a naija mechanic brought my car back, but with all the clips used to fasten the engine cover and other plastic parts missing. I asked why they were not there, guess his response? They were not necessary, and would make it easy to open the engine the next time!
Another time, I bought a new radiator, they installed it, then made the fan permanent! Howwww. I had to tell him to return it to factory settings immediately! Go pump your tyre at the valcanizer, you will find out the valve cap will be missing, they will not put them back after pumping.
Truth of the matter is that we have to re examine in our work ethics, skills etc.

People, younger folks I mean do not know the sacrifice Nigeria did for South Africa. As for me, I remember way back in university of ibadan, the amount of South African students we had, all fully funded by the Nigerian state. Not just Ui, but federal universities all over the country. Those SA students even lived better than us. Forget them and beer with Pepper soup at Tin-tin, one joint like that. Apparently, our beer was harsher than theirs, they loved it. They will get so high they roll in the floor. Those guys drank beer by the creates all funded by fgn. We were like poor folks compared to them as they lived large. We still had compassion on them and understood as they were said to be treated as slaves in their country. Funny thing is that it was not only South African students but also Lebanese, Palestinians. The PLO (Palestinian liberation organisation) lead by the later Yeser Arafat. Their exiled fighters were given safe heaven in naija, all funded by our government. Lots of them were students in UI, living with us in the hostels as normal naija students. The only difference was the way the spent money on "goodtime" and chicks.

Politics / Re: OVH Acquisition: NNPC Says Tinubu Not Involved But Fails To Address Key Issues by nedekid: 8:58pm On Aug 23
Zico5:
Tinubu is just wasting his energy. He can never acquire anything as far as Nigeria is concerned. Nigeria is not Lagos state where he can do anything. All the acquisition will be revolked by the next president unless he is planning to be president for life. Let him enjoy the privilege of being president for less than three years more and all he is wiling to take will be history. Tinubu is a fool if he think he can decide anything after his expiration as the president.
He still controlled a major state and other states years after leaving, even to this day. He is doing that now on a federal level. He will end up owning everything by proxy. Everything big, he will have his filthy lepros fingers. Was dangote not given the shake down recently to the extent he almost weeped on TV?. Oga must have a piece of that refinary. Coastal road is in the bag, $10b worth in a hungry country deep in debt. Of course it is alleged he and his paddy owns the company with their kids as directors, same kid that got sole franchise for advert signage for a whole state by fiat. That could buy a £10m house in his 20s and "things" like mannabbq, freestuffng and the rest were hailing his business acumen.
Bros, this man has grabbed Nunu Nunu pee cee, even if he drops dead tomorrow, his family owns it. They would have ensured water-tight, unbreakable agreement with unbearable penalty for default is put in place, domicilled in foreign country for mediation, just as done with the Chinese company currently grabbing our jets.
A new administration comes in, (assuming he does not control), cancels anything, they then go to court abroad and get judgement. That is why atiku said our future is being mortgaged.
Dangote said he won't invest in steel any longer, let others that have money abroad, in dubai etc, "people with more money" than him. Have you wondered who he may have referred to? Certainly it was not atiku he meant.
