capitalzero:Even without such amendments, every worker knows their employer. If their employer meets their demands, no need to join another strike that doesnt affect them, that doesnt mean they cant lend their voices but not through industrial action. |
Scenario 2 Imagine you are a doctor, you have 6 patients in your care. The first patient is just there for routine check but he is relatively healthy and is taking a nap at one of the beds in the hospital The 2nd to 6th patients are critically ill though, they are in need of ORGAN TRANSPLANT, one needs a HEART, another a PAIR OF KIDNEYS, the next a LIVER, the next A LUNG, and the last A PANCREAS, (A) will you suddenly kill the relatively healthy patient to SAVE THE 5 UNHEALTHY PATIENTS. That is 1 life to save 5 lives. Or (B) will you watch the 5 die because of no organ donors. If you picked A what are your reasons. If you picked A, What if you kill one of the critical ill patients and use his good organs to save the 4 other critically ill patients will that be okay, instead of killing the healthy one. If you picked B, what if the healthy man said you should kill him and save the 5 would that make it okay for you? |
PS: There is no right or wrong answer, just state your answer with reasons. But think your reasons through and think if you would still stick to it if the scenario changed a little. Scenario 1 You are driving a TRAIN on a rail track but from a distance you can see that 5 workers are working on the track and for some reasons your brake and horn doesn't work. You are sure THE FIVE OF THEM WILL BE KILLED, but just as you have accepted that fate, you see an intersection on the rail track and if you switch to that intersection ONLY 1 WORKER will die. Here is the dilemma, (A)Will you make that switch to save 5 and kill just 1? or (B) will you continue on the original track and kill 5 instead? If you pick A, what are your reasons and if you pick B what are your reasons. It doesn't stop there. If you picked A can you answer this. Suppose you were standing at the side of the Track before the rail intersection and you are sure if you jump into the track, the train will KILL YOU but stop moving therefore SAVING 5 or 6 rail workers in the process will you go ahead with it seeing your SACRIFICE WILL BE SAVING 6 LIVES? if yes why and if not, why not. If you picked B, What if the number of people in that track suddenly increased to 20 or 50 workers in a split second, will you still maintain on that original track or will you switch lane and kill the one? If you will continue, why? If not, why not? If you picked you will not, then answer this too, Suppose you were a by stander at the side of the Track after the train passed the rail intersection, will you jump into the track, the train will KILL YOU but stop moving therefore SAVING 20 rail workers in the process. Will you go ahead with it seeing your SACRIFICE WILL BE SAVING 20 LIVES? if yes why and if not, why not. Scenario 2 will be up soon... Seun OAM4J Mynd44 dominique |
delana:Agitate but leave room for skeletal services, that is less than 10% of your normal workforce. That's the principle all essential workers adopt except in the healthcare sector. With more than 90% off the workforce, the strike will still be felt as if its was a 100% but that less than 10% will act in cases of critical emergency in essential services. It's important because no one knows how long the strike will last, whether days, weeks or month. This government seems to be on the goal of setting new all time low in governance. |
capitalzero:The bone of contention is not about them striking or demanding for their pay and welfare, it is rather that SKELETAL SERVICES should still be available at TERTIARY HOSPITALS in the A/E DEPARTMENT. Health sector is an ESSENTIAL SECTOR, it just cannot shut down completely, just like every other ESSENTIAL SECTOR. STATE OWED hospitals shouldn't be on strike either, they are not been owed, their show of SOLIDARITY by shutting down too is IRRESPONSIBLE, rather they can lend a voice to government on NARD'S BEHALF. |
capitalzero:SUCH SOLIDARITY IS UNLAWFUL PROVIDED STATE ASUU MEMBERS ARE NOT BEEN OWED BY STATE GOVERNMENT, THEIR EMPLOYERS. FEDERAL ASUU MEMBERS CAN STRIKE IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OWES THEM but while teaching is important to every country, it doesnt count as essential services. That is why during lockdown most schools closed globally, until scientist got knowledge on the virus. But power companies, food companies, security agencies, health workers, fire service, online banking etc didnt close down totally but partially |
capitalzero:At your last sentence, do you really want to be treated like security forces? The police that has poor welfare and salaries, worse than doctors. They buy their own uniforms and shoes, their guns are outdated, they don't even have enough bullet rounds in them. Their stations are mostly in bad shape across Nigeria, their housing quarters is nothing to write home about, their training police college, even many NYSC camps are far better than it. They risk their lives in gun battles with criminals, even before anything like life insurance was introduced by the FG. Do you really want the police treatment? The army is equally in poor shape, money meant for equipment and guns looted by politicians and generals. Been sent to sambisa forest to fight for Nigeria but they aren't properly equipped, some were owed salaries while in battle, they have to struggle for what to eat in that environment, no access to clean water, and they are been killed in their hundreds almost weekly, do you want that kind of hazard or treatment? Nard actually are trying to make HO's part of them, they are not. They want to use welfare as an Avenue to justify HO's been part of them, but they are clearly different. It's simply a game of STRENGTH IN NUMBERS for NARD. If NARD'S demands are met today, I tell you they will resume today whether HO's are paid or not. They will beg HO's to resume work too and that WHILE AT WORK THEY WILL KEEP FIGHTING THEY GET PAID, but if it's the opposite, they wont allow HO's resume. |

delana Thank you for your contribution but almost everything you mentioned I already said prior. Everybody has a right to strike as I mentioned and you also stated. And also everybody has a right to be paid as I mentioned and you mentioned. The bone of contention is not about them striking or demanding for their pay and welfare, it is rather that SKELETAL SERVICES should still be available at TERTIARY HOSPITALS in the A/E DEPARTMENT. Health sector is an ESSENTIAL SECTOR, it just cannot shut down completely, just like every other ESSENTIAL SECTOR. STATE OWED hospitals shouldn't be on strike either, they are not been owed, their show of SOLIDARITY by shutting down too is IRRESPONSIBLE, rather they can lend a voice to government on NARD'S BEHALF. |
qunleajayi:Have you donated one of yours first? If not, why not? |
culf:That first line of yours is IRRESPONSIBLE and UNCALLED FOR! Have you ever met me before? culf:This is you right, from another thread fighting for NIGERIANS, but you turn around here to say they should as well die. |
culf:So in other words you are justifying their irresponsible approach? Asking that all hospitals be abandoned like the tertiary has been abandoned, when people like HO's should still be on ground? You are justifying STATE owned hospitals for also joining NARD in the strike, meanwhile they are not been owed? At what cost? Is the cost of human life worth it? Sorry it is not justifiable, it is IRRESPONSIBLE. |
aje55393:As e dey hot o ![]() |
DrFunmisticGlow:You clearly don't, cause I already explained it. FG is wrong but NARD'S approach is also wrong. If POLICE VACATES all their post in Nigeria at once, can you image the chaos? Who will control and enforce traffic laws? How will health workers get to work? Or will they be sleeping on the roads? Who will citizens call if there is a break in, in our homes and offices? Are they properly cared for? They buy their uniforms and shoes, live in unhygienic quarters, have poor salaries, have poor guns to fight and protect their lives in gun battles and poorly maintained cars and stations, yet they still understand they are essential services and must keep some man power back if they must strike. Same with the army, if they all run from the north east ,all of them, Bokoharam will be at our doors steps tomorrow, nobody will feel safe going out, not even Health workers. If PHCN does the same, black out indefinitely, imagine the hardship and cost the average Nigerian will incur. Airport workers and port officers go on total strike, all flights in and out cancelled like when the pandemic was recent, imagine how it will put import ( refined crude oil is an example) and exports (raw crude which is out main source of income) and even passenger travel in disarray. Look you dont know what essentially services are, HO's should assist as much as they can with consultants in A/E until government meets NARD'S demands and the HO's. |
NaMe4:You are right |
DrFunmisticGlow:I don't personal insult people in my post, I wont start because of you. You said it yourself, they dont go on strike. I said in my post, let NARD strike on HO's behalf, while the HO's take turns at the A/E unit. You dont CLEARLY know what ESSENTIALLY SERVICES ARE, that is why you didnt process my post without bias. Police, army, fire service, phcn etc cannot go on strike the way medics do despite their poor welfare. If they ever attempt to do, they leave room for skeletal services. Ho's and consultants are that vital skeletal services here in accident and emergency department but you what that too like NARD to be taken away from Nigerians. Your logic is spot on!!! |
Monogamy:He has his fault but FG also watch the news, they have their fault too. The Doctors have their fault too. |
Monogamy:Ngige is not only the problem, FG is. If Ngige approves the payment but the president does not endorse it , what difference does it make? Ngige is only acting on instructions, like they employee that he is. If ngige has conscience he should resign seeing his hands are tied . |
Monogamy:Ngige doesnt need to be a medical doctor to feel their pains, that is what his CONSCIENCE is for, same way doctors dont need to be DYING PATIENTS to feel their pains, that is what their CONSCIENCE is for. |
culf:Any profession deserves reasonable compensation, so I dont blame NARD for demanding what should be their right, I only condemn their approach. |
Nukilia:You are right and they should please play their part. |
doggedfighter:You too dear, I will adjust the paragraph now, thanks ![]() |
Ps: HO's mean HOUSE OFFICER(S), name you call the lowest ranked doctor in graduate training to become a General practitioner. NARD mean NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS, name you call senior doctors in training to become SPECIALIST in a specific field of medicine. Consultants are the most senior doctors, they have undergone the HO's stage and the Residency stage of NARD and are Specialist doctors in their field. So it is no longer news that NARD are currently on strike over their unpaid salaries running 3 months. They gave 60 days notice to the FG but as usual FG allowed the grace period to pass without doing anything tangible. The NARD are clamouring for their unpaid salaries, increase of their hazard allowance from N5000 to 50% of their basic salary, integration of all NARD members to IPPIS, and a few minor ones. Why FG is selfish? FG is selfish because as usual they want to ONLY enjoy the spoils of Nigeria instead of an even distribution of wealth according to occupation across Nigeria. Corruption being a major issue here. Why NARD is unreasonable? NARD'S demands are not UNREASONABLE but to be clear their APPROACH is unreasonable. I list the reasons and suggestions in them about how to fix it. 1. HO's shouldn't be on a strike with NARD, NARD made them join. Some NARD members even claim they are part of them, despite them been on different programs. NARD are paid by IPPIS platform why HO's are paid by the FG directly. NARD even unlawfully deduct HO's salaries, to their displeasure. NARD dragged HO's into the strike cause HO's haven't been paid for 3 months. HO's can easily be paid by the government but when they are eventually, NARD wont allow them resume in the hospitals because their demands MUST BE MET FIRST despite them running different programs. HO's program make them GENERAL PRACTITIONERS while NARD'S program make them SPECIALIST. If NARD are paid first then the strike will be called off today even if HO's have not received their salaries, they will go back to work and tell the HO'S they are NEGOTIATING WITH FG ON THEIR BEHALF BUT THEY WILL BE BACK AT WORK BUT IF HO'S ARE PAID BEFORE THEM THEY WON'T ALLOW THEM RESUME. These has been the routine, so HO's are just been used by NARD. The reason isn't far fetched, LET NIGERIANS FEEL THE STRIKE, that is NARD'S USUAL MOTTO. By that statement they mean let the poor who cannot afford PRIVATE CLINICS THAT NARD'S STILL OWN AND RUN SHOULD DIE LIKE FOULS, THEN WHEN VULNERABLE PEOPLE START DYING, THEN FG CAN RESPOND APPROPRIATELY. WELL PEOPLE HAVE STARTED DYING ALREADY, LET'S SEE HOW MANY WILL DIE BEFORE FG ACTS. 2. While Medicine is a job that REQUIRES pay when due it is also an ESSENTIAL SERVICE. What that mean is that NARD can go on strike for their demands which is justified but the hospitals should still be able to RESPOND ADEQUATELY TO ACCIDENTS AND EMERGENCY CASES ONLY. This can only be possible IF HO's work closely with the CONSULTANTS who both should not be on STRIKE but that is not the case in Nigeria, once NARD STRIKES the whole HOSPITAL PRACTICAL SHUTS DOWN. Although doctors are on ground like the HO'S and consultants, no work will be done and this is terrible for an essential service. The worst part is state hospitals are not been owed but they have STARTED TO JOIN THE TERTIARY HOSPITALS TO STRIKE, IN A FORM OF SOLIDARITY!!!. We have other essential services like the POLICE, MILITARY, FIRE SERVICE, AIRPORT AND SEA PORT WORKERS, PHCN WORKERS etc. JUST IMAGINE IF THIS GUYS OR ANYONE OF THEM GO ON COMPLETE STRIKE ACROSS NIGERIA, THAT WOULD BE A DISASTER!. The arm forces faces more hazard than the average citizen but while they complain, they know that can't ALL abandon their duty post and leave us all in insecurity, that's been REASONABLE TO THE POOR NIGERIANS THAT CANT AFFORD PRIVATE SECURITY. ALL ESSENTIAL WORKERS IN NIGERIA ARE MANAGING INCLUDING NARD, NOTHING IS PERFECT BUT THEY MUST STILL GIVE SKELETAL SERVICES (not by NARD directly in this strike but HO's and Consultants)EVEN IF THEY DECIDE TO STRIKE AND NOT A COMPLETE SHUT DOWN. 3. Poor Nigerians are the ones suffering all this not EVEN FG the villian. 2 wrongs don't make a right. FG is clearly wrong but NARD are matching them for evil toe to toe. If this fight is truly about the SAFETY of Nigeria and the WELFARE of NARD, then NARD should allow HO's back to work WHILE they fight for HO's right and theirs. But if is SOLEY ABOUT MONEY they would continue to DRAG HO's who shouldn't strike in the first place based on their condition of service with the FG, making TERTIARY HOSPITALS USELESS cause consultants won't even lift a muscle. This is the REALITY OF THE ONGOING STRIKE to NIGERIANS, other reports are one sided and biased. Seun Mynd44 |

donnie:Let's take it one after the other. At least 5G technology is common place since 2020/2021 and nobody is making a fuzz about it again. The others you mentioned tell me how they work, their mechanisms. |
Kobojunkie:Petra answer this too |
petra1:To add, lots of phones uses 5G ,including iPhone 12. Nigerians use the phones both home and abroad( where 5G network is available) |
