Sectarian killings: CAN threatens tough action

By Akin Oyedele, Ibadan

The Christian Association of Nigeria has threatened to react “appropriately” to the spate of religious intolerance in parts of Oyo State, which recently claimed the lives of three clergymen in Igangan.

advertisement

A statement on Wednesday by the President of CAN in the state, Rev. Joseph Akinfenwa, said the only way to avert the impending reaction was for the police to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.

Elsewhere, the Founder, Achievers’ Rock Assembly, Rev. Iyiola Oluyemi, on Wednesday said religious organisations should de-emphasise profit making and concentrate on how to lure youths away from crime.

Addressing a news conference in Ibadan on the forthcoming programme of the church tagged, “Heaven come down and something strange will happen,” he regretted that most churches had deviated from soul-winning.

For quite a while, Akinfenwa said Christians had maintained peace in the face of religious intolerance in parts of the state because it had not assumed a fatal dimension until the Igangan experience.

Warning that religious strife was festering in the state, he called on the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the command, Mr. Ralph Ibeazor, to rise to the occasion.

He, however, commended the police for the steps taken so far to unravel the identities of the masterminds of the Igangan mayhem that consumed three clergymen who visited the community for evangelism.

Akinfenwa said, “An example of such religious intolerance was on March 15 when Prophet Oladipupo, Joel, aka Baba Sekunderin, organised crusades in Eruwa and Ibarapa.

“It was in Igangan community that their vehicles were attacked; stones were hurled at their vehicles and many windscreens were broken.

“When the report was brought to us, we persuaded them to remain calm; that we should take it as one of the sufferings of Christ.

Another oil dealer shot dead in Ibadan

By Akin Oyedele, Ibadan

Another private petroleum dealer, Mr. Gbenga Taiwo, has been shot dead in Ibadan by two suspected assassins operating on motorcycle.

The killing came barely one month after the yet-to-be-solved murder of Mr. Demola Oyadeyi, also an oil dealer.

Sources told journalists that Taiwo, the Managing Director of Samalis Oil was shot dead around 10pm on Tuesday night at his residence in Oluyole Estate Extension, Aba Aladiye, Ibadan.

Oyadeyi, a retired Permanent Secretary in the state, was shot dead by two men that operated on motorcycle at his Demoya filling station located in Alegongo Area of Akobo, Ibadan, last month.

It was gathered that the assailants had laid ambush for Taiwo a few metres away from his house and accosted him while waiting for the gate of the house to be opened.

Although he reportedly pleaded with the killers to spare his life and take everything he had in the house, they were said to have told him that someone had already paid for his life.

After the brief encounter, one of the two attackers was said to have pulled a pistol and shot the man on the chest before fleeing the scene on their get-away bike.

The source said the man was confirmed dead on arrival at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he was taken for medical attention.

Earlier, a private hospital had allegedly refused to attend to the man on the excuse that it required a police report to treat gunshot victims, following which he was taken to the UCH in the hospital’s ambulance.

Can somebody please explain to me why the bible asked women to stay at the back seat in church but God still use female pastors to work today? Could there be a contradiction there? Do you support the proliferation of churches that support female pastors on their pulpit?.

I think women are getting tired of male hypocritical pastors sha.

ive never really been interested in any pastor whatsoever except a family pastor everyone in my family knew. christianity in these western countries is adulterated. ive never been interested in church or pastor. i study the bible myself. pastors such the ones uve mentioned and some others make christianity look and seem a joke.

if i want real unadulterated preaching or teaching then i listen to some unknown pastor and not the hip-hop or funky pastors
Good, most pastors are only interested in telling their flock what they want to hear, prosperity, healing, good marriage, children etc but holiness is a no go area.

@Needlelady and Busta

I agreed with you both about lost interesting on both Evangelist Juanita and Pastor Paula White disgraced their religion. But remember the bible passages they both taught us well!
How well are they teaching you when they can't even practice what they preach? Common, this is a woman that had a $1M  celebrity wedding, what happened to humility that should be seen among christians? christians  in America are more interested in achieving the celebrity status than worshipping God and it's a pity. Can't you see the difference? Most Nigerian pastors have imbibed that lifestyle and praytell, you'll soon see the murky waters they'll run into.

Silly, Needlelady, I do had dated the last 3 hearing guys in a committed monogamous relationship - - -all dissed me (except last one) no reason even i have nothing wrong with me as all guys told me.

The first two guys whom I date lasted 3 years, and the last one lasted 5 years, kept asking me to postpone our wedding date THREE TIMES during 5 yr relationship, suspected COLD FEET and COWARD i broke him up! All of them are across state border from my homestate 3 hours apart!

10 years ago, I had registered on many FREE TRIAL 2-weeks online dating services with only local mileage radius around my homestate---77 guys TURNED ME DOWN on that 2 weeks trial. Their answer: CANNOT HANDLE DATING DEAF WOMAN LIKE ME. That was lame excuse! I terminated online dating service NO MORE!!!

Now i am tired of dating rejections and i don't have a decent guy lately. I believe that most guys cannot HANDLE  deaf independent divorced single mother of 2 children! (one grown adult does not live with me, the other still teenager 3 more years left for graduation). THERE IS NO BABY DADDY DRAMA to infere my life because of distance away from my homestate!!!
Sorry, i didnt know you have a medical condition but I'd advice you NEVER to show a man any sign of desperation because he'll be out to take advantage of you. Try and live happily above these things and pray without ceasing because God has someone out there for you.

I asked you about the sex because you said you'll have to wait till your ex husband dies before remarrying and it kind of contradicts the latter statement because if you can't stay off sex outside marriage but keep the law of not remarrying, it doesnt make any difference. I left college without dating courtesy of my parents an since then, I've been dating only one man. I admit that we sometimes need a companion but no companion in this world is comparable to Jesus.

I myself raised in the Christianity family surrounding but me, i am not HOLY-ART-THOU fanatics to practice everything in the bible.

I am not perfect like everyone else! COMMON SENSE when it comes to relationship, marriage, and family! I believe in what i believe, not from what people tell me what to do, or think of me!

I am just exactly like Evangelist Juanita Byrnum- - -who preaches BLACK AMERICAN MARRIED WOMEN who feel ashamed of not shown their bodies to their own husbands, hidden their bodies to keep light off while husbands want see wife's body! Preach Juanita! I support her!

Do you know that ROUGHLY 80% OF BLACK AMERICAN MARRIED WOMEN woe in marriage caused black American married men cheating on them? You just missed Evangelist Juanita's powerful sermon on cable TV show!!!
You didn't answer my question.  Since you chose to stay single after your marriage broke apart,  does that  mean that you've not had any sexual contact with anybody(man or woman)?

On Juanita Bynum, she used to be my heroine but after her faceoff with ex husband Bishop weeks, i lost interest because it seems all of them are the same.  The couple not only disgraced themselves on TV but they also disgraced their religion. Pastor  Paula White is among them too.

In my opinion, the wife has her right to file divorce on the ground of adultery/sexual infidelity for GOD'S SAKE OF PEACE, a woman IS NO LONGER BOUND TO THAT PERSON. Unless her husband is willing to stay with wife, DON'T DIVORCE HIM for God's SAKE!
Are you suggesting that all these American pastors that divorce and marry as many times as possible are hell bound?

just a point of correction, the bible supports divorce but not marrying someone else while your first husband is still alive.
Shall we start theology class here? The bible abhorred marriage for only divorced people that are outside the two conditions. Are you saying that if your wife deserts you for another man, ,you'll remain unmarried? Are you saying that you'll let your sisters husband be bashing and abusing her because divorce is uncalled for? Think outside the box please.

By Sam MIlla,
I knew it, It amazing how most of you ladies go to all kinds of churches to beg God for visas, fast and pray, hope and humble, listening to all kinds of Don Meon, Ron Kenoly and all others even considering wearing trousers a sin, As soon as you get your visa and get to JFK airport In New York, you turn the music in your walkman to Beyonce and Madonna,  I am not saying you don't have to play your music but how much time do you have for those gospel songs again, You are there telling me about Beyonce, Who the hell is Beyonce. Look at where you derive your inspirations and this is the way you will like your children to follow, [s]All i am saying is that we Nigerians in Nigeria have our own views of everything. So many people will be wondering what beyonce means because its not in their religious doctrine, Stick with your american perspectives there and stop decieving our people. [/s]
So, everything in life should be described from the religious point of view? If that is the case, then Nigerians are still at par with their religion because I am yet to read in any bible where sexual promiscuity is applauded. I just don't know why Nigerian men get uncormfortable whenever you tell them the truth.

To the left to the left(yes, she's my inspiration; who's yours? kollington?)

Almond is not my inspiration; I just agreeed with what she said and that is final.  Withh all the STD's flying everywhere, women need to protect themselves and say no to a promiscous husband.  I hope you know the bible supports divorce on the ground of infidelity and desertion. You can marry as many men as you want as long as you look good. Liz Taylor did it, JLO did it, why should it be me that'll take that rubbish?

Northern Niger Benue would have  ruled nigeria for 46  years in power, Now add Umar Yar Adua 4 years to it 38 years already in powerpower , if he had second time  . 46 years in power of 55 years of Nigeria . It means 15 state have ruled Nigeria for 46 years out of 55 years .

While the southern Niger benue have more than 60% of Nigeria population according to disputed census by Makama, while satellite picture put the population as close to 70% of the population of Nigeria,  But have ruled for 18% of times.

Now Look at EFCC arrest list,  99% of the people arrested by EFCC are people from Southern Niger Benue even while most people from Southern niger Benue have never had any form of contact with the federal govt of Nigeria,  So what do you call this tribalist EFCC members.  What the EFCC is doing is ethnic cleansing.
The ethnic cleansing should stop here now.

Look if you remove obasanjo from the list,  the 21 state consist of the southern Niger Benue who are majority of Nigerians, with close to 70 % of Nigeria population have only ruled for less than 1 years,  that is 7 month of Ironsi and 81 days of Sonekan. This is why we need a constitution review.
Lol at ethnic cleansing. I thought Azikiwe was Nigerias president?

WHY IS THIS CASE SO SPECIAL?
This woman is left behind with three kids ages 8, 6 and 1-month. Just less than a month ago, they informed us of their newborn. This woman is not currently working as she just recovered from a life-threatening illness that took years of recovery. I mean this deceased man is the
sole breadwinner of this family. Late Mr. Femi Oyewole was only 38. This is absolutely devastating.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Please feel the pain, shed the tears and mourn with the family if you can. Table this case before God. Are you a fervent prayer? Pray
ceaselessly for the Oyewoles. Give an anonymous call to 1-416-614-1760, if you can to admonish the widow. This woman needs our support now and
for a long time.

The bitter truth is, after the burial this Wednesday everyone will return to their destinations and back to their normal lives. Then the
calls will gradually stop coming but the only thing that will remain with this family is our prayers and words of hope and consolation.

Dad of 3 dies in pond

Cops unsure what caused Nigerian immigrant to crash into frigid water

By CHRIS DOUCETTE -- Sun Media

The Toronto Sun

A York Regional Police diver searches a pond on Rutherford Rd. for evidence after an Acura driven by Femi Oyewole crashed yesterday morning. Oyewole died. (Dave Thomas, Sun Media)

A Toronto father of three with everything to live for was killed yesterday when his car plunged into a pond near Maple.

York police say Femi Oyewole, 38, was heading east on Rutherford Rd., just east of Jane St., on his way to work when the bizarre accident occurred just before 7 a.m.

But they have no idea what caused Oyewole to veer off the road and slam into the small but deep body of water in front of the York Region public works department.

"All of a sudden (the car) accelerated for an unknown reason," Const. Paul Diceman said at the scene, which is only about 200 metres from a police station.

"The driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle. (He) crossed the westbound lanes, drove up onto the grass, struck a large rock and then went down into the pond."

Oyewole's distraught wife, Ibiwumi, said he was a young man in excellent health who didn't drink alcohol.
