PoliticsRe: 5 Things Nigeria Is Doing Better Than America by Nellybobo(m): 1:33pm On Dec 09, 2018
mrrights:
5 Things Nigeria is Doing Better than America

These are 5 areas that Nigeria is clearly outdoing the US in.

1. Nigeria’s economy is growing five times faster than the US

Most people don’t associate “West Africa” and “booming economy”, but despite the global downturn, the region is home to some growth rates that would make Ronald Reagan blush. Right near the top of that list is Nigeria, that with an average growth rate of 8.1%, are experiencing more growth than the US (a pitiful 1.5%), the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and the entire European Union… combined.

2. Nigeria has stricter anti-piracy laws than the US

You read that right. Despite the RIAA, the MPAA, bills like SOPA and PIPA and 40,000 theaters all reminding you before a film of your moral integrity in regards to stealing cars, Nigeria are clearly ahead of America in fighting piracy. Their recent no tolerance laws have reaped some serious results: 26 anti-piracy raids, 6 million pirated works (worth US$5 million) seized and 145 arrests. Also, whereas arrests made in the US usually lead to a fine and a slap on the wrist for the offender, Nigerians convicted are facing prison, some for as long as 2 years for their offences.

3. Nigeria drinks more than the US.

Some may not consider this a way Nigeria is doing better than America, but for those college students who think nobody downs Natty Light like they do, Nigeria has something to say. Nigerians easily outdo Americans in alcoholic units per capita, but drinking Guinness is where they really shine. Consuming only a few hectoliters less than Ireland, Nigerians manage to drink significantly more of the black stuff than the US, despite Americans beer-guzzling ways and a population three times as large as Nigeria.

4. Nigerians care more about freedom of the press

Despite a historically free media, recent times have seen restrictive regimes doing their best Kim Jung Il impression with the media. But where other medias in Africa and Asia have been happy to roll over for their oppressive leaders, Nigerians would rather die than give up their rights, as several have. This past year, the Nigerian media won the Free Press Africa Award, partly in honor of the many journalists who died attempting to bring the truth to the masses. I’m not sure anyone at Fox News is planning on dying for their freedom anytime soon.

5. Nigeria, not America, is the world’s police.

Take a guess as to which country commits more troops to global peacekeeping operations than any other. If you’ve read the rest of this article so far, picked up on the theme and guessed Nigeria, you’d be correct. Nigeria ships off soldiers to 80 different countries in Africa, Europe and Asia. While Bangladesh is set to pass Nigeria’s contributions in the near future, they will still be contributing more soldiers than the EU and more than five times as many soldiers as the US. Team Nigeria World Police?

2. Culture

In the US, there is a lack of culture amongst groups of native Americans in the sense of tradition. Most of its culture/tradition are brought by immigrants from all over the world. For instance, traditional weddings of Nigerians in America aren't even as authentic as it is in Nigeria. The longer you stay in the US, the more the culture fades away. I doubt if Yoruba people in America bow to greet their elders as it is in Nigeria. Even children talk back and disrespect their elders over there.
Who culture epp??

I don’t understand the problem with Nigerians. He is gay and never disturbed you at all. He is a good friend who keeps his gay thing to himself and other like him. What is your problem with that? Has his gayness affected you? You wear dolce and gabbana, Alexander McQueen etc, all owned by gay people. You love Leonardo da Vinci, is amazed by the drawings of artistry of Micheal Angelo, listen to Elton John, watch Barney from how I met your mother and Sheldon from Big Bang theory and never bother but want to destroy your friendship because he enjoys men. What a tragedy? You fornicate in your ways, he spulge in his own ways so leave him alone.

This attitude of trooping into a thread about crime just to check for ethnicity so that banters and taunts will be thrown, to me is childish. Crime should be condemned by all. Each tribe has a recurrent crime peculiar to them. I hate divisiveness. Can we as the future generation use the leverage of internet availability to keep Nigeria united and bring about the change of which we have been shortchanged of by our former and present leaders.
I hereby with regard to the above reason move the motion for the abolishment of NCAN forthwith.

God bless you all fellow Nigerians.

If you have the certificate or exemption, I will highly recommend you enclose it. It gives your application some heft. But if you don't have it, no biggie, many have gotten approved without it. It's a balancing act where one deficiency is made up by a strength somewhere. And nobody says you have to do NYSC right now. You can come back to Nigeria after your masters and do it. Getting funding and working to prove to the visa officers that you a legit student and will come back to Nigeria are the most important criteria.
Pls any tips on the bolded ? How do they convince them? I heard nysc is usually used to convince them

As a first class graduate, there are a myriad of scholarships available to international students from Canada's universities. With the right fine tuning writing a compelling statement of intent and research proposal, there are many universities in Canada waiting to swing wide open their gates for you. As for the visa application, the 800 pound gorilla in the room, it's a leveler. Everyone has to meet the same requirements of financial and home ties. I have seen some first class, fully funded graduates rejected for a visa. But if you continue to stay and keep abreast to this forum, I am pretty sure you will learn fast when it comes to the visa application time, how to make the odds work in your favor. Like what to say to the VO in your statement of explanation, how to assemble a winning portfolio in general.
Thank you very much sir.. I appreciate

Pls quick question.. do I really need NYSC at all?

I hail the great ladies and gentlemen of this thread. Please I need a little info about this.... I'm still an undergraduate (currently in my 400) and studying Chemical Engineering. I aspire for a first class degree. So my question is.. what are the opportunities and benefits a first class degree holder can get when the time comes for processing visa and studying Masters in Canada..

Pls help me out as this will also help boost my morale in the need to attain this degree and also need the info for early preparation.

Thanks a billion for your concern
