Tekenny:You have said it all. The degree and HND are two distinct qualifications for different purposes. They are NOT substitute, equivalent or same in any respect no matter the personal skills or proficiencies anyone may profess. The drivers of the polytechnic system are deceiving the people and creating tension in the work places. Is it not laughable that sometime ago, they attempted coming up with the Post HND programme to assume the "equivalent" of a Masters Degree. Very ridiculous! It is time to stop this confusion. If you want a degree, please go to the University. |
parkervero:The agitation you referred to results from the perceived discrimination against the HND fellow in the workplace. Take note. Nobody is saying that the HND chap is not good at what he does or studied and sometimes better than his B.Sc colleague. The truth is that both certificates are not ranked equivalent as the B.Sc is rated above HND this is irrespective of the individual's proficiency in his job. Do you know that COREN (Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria) do not recognize HND as equivalent of B.Sc? Please find out. It is time therefore for the Polytechnics to assume their positions and accept that their certificate as NOT EQUIVALENT TO DEGREE for the citizens to be properly guided. |
parkervero:I am open to knowledge, please educate me. The truth is that some hardworking lecturers/staff of the Polytechnic hold M.Sc/P.hDs and this is seen as personal as the system does not recognize the acquisition of higher degrees as compulsory or needed for their career advancement. That is, with just a B.Sc, a Polytechnic Lecturer can rise to the peak of his career. This is not same in the University . In the University, a B.Sc Lecturer has no voice in the system untill he acquires a P.hD. Beyond this, he strives to earn as much scholarly publications locally and internationally as possible to his credit to speed up his career progression. To drive this dichotomy between HND and B.Sc home further, within the Polytechnics system, teachers with HND qualification are tagged "Instructors" while their B.Sc counterparts are called "Lecturers". I am priviledged to have attended a Polytechnic before moving to the University and I can confidently say that Polytechnic training is rigorous, detailed and challenging too but regrettably the two institutions are not rated at par due to the different mandate in the laws that set them up. Consequently, the certificates awarded by the institution are not ranked paripassu |
It is quite unfortunate that people still attend Polytechnics these days particularly beyond the ND level. Take it or leave it, HND and Degree can never be at par no matter whatever legislation that is made. First Polytechnics where designed to produce middle level manpower unlike the Universities that are set up to produce high level manpower for the economy. Arising from the above, the structural framework on which both institution operate in terms of the quality of facilities and manpower are quite different. For example, how many professors and P.hD holders do you find in a Polytechnic as lecturers? Rather, you see HND and B.Sc lecturers there rising up to their peak as Chief Instructors and Chief Lecturers respectively. Yes, studying in the Polytechnic may be quite rigorous. This is as a result of the over zealousness of teachers and drivers of the system in their false allusion that the system is same and equally to the University. The word University is derived from "UNIVERSAL". This means University degrees can be globally evaluated. This is unlike the HND which lacks global assessment or recognition as some countries are unable to determine its value or placement. Finally, if the government is serious in its attempt in equating HND with B.Sc, what similar effort has been made to amend the scheme of service of the federation to accommodate the envisaged equality. Just like many other attempt made before now, this is another effort that may also end in mere talk. |

Is ward 10 chairman (the man that pulled Osho down from National Chairmanship) there? Great Estasko Ward 10! |
Baby girl, I have read you story very carefully. Please note that there is never a perfect relationship and therefore don't be deceived by ill counsel. For you to have nursed a relationship for 5years, it's obvious that you love your man because you may have been exposed to other "toasters" along the line. I can assure you that these ugly behaviour of your man would stop soon. To sustain your happiness and build a home with you man, try not to expect too much from him financially so that you get disappointed. Know that whatever he makes is certainly for the interest of the home whether given to you directly or indirectly. Please make peace with him because he will outgrown his present behaviour. Remember too that, the grass is not always and necessarily greener on the other side as it may seem. |

I can't understand. Obaseki was sent out of APC as not qualified for its primary, now why is Obaseki's nomination in PDP a threat to APC? If APC believe and are sincere to themselves that Obaseki's credentials were defective, then relax and challenge his eligibility in court after he has won the election. What is playing out now shows that APC toyed with their valuable asset, a clear case of mismanagement by the then Oshomole led national APC. Mismanagement induced by arrogance, pride and ignorance by Oshomole, the then talkative national chairman. The prize for all these are: lost national chairmanship of APC and now loosing your his state to the opposition party. A situation that will send Oshomole to political oblivion. |
Dakad:Don't we also have final year students in Universities and other higher institutions? So school's reopening should be all encompassing. |
Honestly, let APC and PDP go and another party emerge in Edo State. There is really no difference between these two parties. They have been in government at one time or the other and have proved their worth and thank them. The state is not their family estate. For those ranting for them, you are being deceived used as common tools for achieving the personal ambitions individuals. The state belongs to all Edos thus any party or candidate is eligible to become a governor as it is not the birth right of same few recircled individuals. Please let's be wise. |

What is actually going on? You are holding down the future and destinies of Nigerian students on account of Covid-19 while political and religious activities are blossoming and lately the restrictions on interstates travels relaxed in the same country. Mind you, economic activities are also going on in our local markets undisturbed. Let's be honest enough, there is something happening in the education sector that the government is not telling us. Recently ASUU applauded FGN for the continued closure of school. I never expected the contrary from them because their salaries are guaranteed even now that they are on "their annual festival of strike". I hold the view that if the ministers of education and health cannot fashion a way to get the schools opened, they better resign their positions for incompetence. Countries with heavy burdens of covid-19 are gradually getting their citizens back to school and we cannot afford to sacrifice the future of our nation on the selfish desires of some few individuals. |
Chuksmonika:Safety my foot. Are local markets not opened? Are political gathering and activities not being held? Don't our kids interact in their neighborhoods and move about in the streets? Now interstate travel restrictions have been relaxed and your dare talk of safety? I can't imagine a nation toying with the future and destiny of her citizens and country by recklessly shutting down schools when under the same conditions other social-economic activities of lesser or insignificant values are allowed to blossom. This is quite shameful. Shameful indeed! Take it our leave it, it is either this govt is grossly competent or there is something it is hiding with reference to the education sector and that is what playing out now. If the education and health ministers cannot get a way round the corona virus pandemic to open school as other sectors are being opened, they should honourably resign their positions. Nigeria is greater than few individuals plunging the country backward. Enough is enough! |
...playing football with people's destinies. |
Waterypussy2:Really? Please tell me more. |
Someone should please help me with materials for Skill Level Exam. My e-mail: ekataose19@gmail.com |
One of my lecturers in school then would jokingly say "The secret of secret is secret". This is further corroborated by the saying that, "It is better to always keep shut and be thought a fool than to speak and erased all doubts". Trust no man, a secret let out is no more a secret. |
