We take things for granted too much in this country. Ordinary "Life-Jacket" could have averted this calamity.
The government should wake up in ensuring that basic safety precautions are observed in our daily lives through enforcement and public sensitisation jingles.
May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace!

Owon:

African Alliance company PLC has refused to pay me and many others their insured money, months and years after maturity.
THEY HID UNDER THE CLOAK OF ISLAM, WITH THEIR FRAUDULENT TAKAFUL SAVINGS PLAN TO DEFRAUD PEOPLE.
I have written several emails to them without a single response.
I have been to their office at Ikoyi last month to warn them and that my return won't be good...

I HAVE WRITTEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND REPORT TO THE USELESS NIACOM THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE INSURANCE COMPANY POLICE TO PUT THEM TO CHECK, BUT THE USELESS NIACOM IS NOT EVEN RESPONDING.
I THINK AFRICAN ALLIANCE INSURANCE COULD HAVE BRIBED THEM...

Please I want suggestions from people who have had similar experiences with these evil and criminal insurance companies and how they were able to retrieve their money.
I have same experience.
I have been approaching the company for months now for the payment of my claims without success.
FG should interven to save AAI customers from undue hardship.
Romance / Re: Nigerian Man Posts Video Of Girlfriend Confessing To Cheating (video) by nelsonose: 6:50am On Mar 09
NairaOcean:
A Nigerian man has sparked controversy after posting a video online of his girlfriend confessing to cheating on him. The video, which has since gone viral, shows the woman tearfully admitting to her infidelity while her boyfriend films the entire confession.

The incident, which took place in an undisclosed location in Nigeria, has drawn widespread attention on social media platforms. In the video, the man can be heard questioning his girlfriend about her actions, to which she responds with a candid admission of her cheating.

"I'm sorry, I made a mistake," the woman is heard saying in the video, her voice trembling with emotion. "I didn't mean to hurt you, but I cheated on you."

The man behind the camera continues to press her for details, asking when and how many times she cheated. The girlfriend, clearly distressed, provides vague answers as she struggles to explain herself.

Rubish! A girlfriend NOT a wife and you have the guts to humiliate her this way. Do it to somebody else from an enlightened family, you will rot in jail. If you don't like her behaviour, simply part your ways. Can you imagine the incalculable damage done to her reputation by this video put in public space? Again, the lady is NOT your wife yet and such you do not have any right whatsoever to humiliate this way.
This will be a good case for advocates of women's right to take up on pro bono to serve as deterrent to other men.

"...mother's always feel they know best and have even seen the future..." You nailed it. From bible days, women have created more problems in relationships. Many marriages have broken down because of the behaviors of women orchestrated by fake prophets and pastors.

Health / Re: Japa: Reps Raise Alarm As LUTH Shuts Down 5 Wards Over Doctors’ Shortage by nelsonose: 12:47pm On Nov 29, 2023
Frizz001:
Are you then saying the House of Reps Chairman of the Committee is lying or uninformed? Do you have any factual basis for your outright disagreement with the House of Reps that exercises oversight of the health sector? Has LUTH come out to say the position is untrue or have you verified that there are no 5 wards shut down in LUTH due to lack of medical personnel? It is clearly stated in the news that the Health Committee undertook an oversight visit to LUTH and came up with these findings. Have you done same and had a different result?

Assuming, without conceding, that your assertion is correct, why then am I not seeing some outrage from you against the House of Reps Chair of the Committee for speaking such falsehood and misleading the people? Why do you rather attack one who has reacted to the news and instead accuse the person of being negative and therefore not entitled to the blessings of the land?

Either way, there is evident failure of government/governance so why are you unable to criticize the government for its lapses?

The house committee members believed what they were told by the hospital Management. Whether the information is right or wrong is different kettle of fish.
Actually, it isn't possible for five wards of a federal teaching hospital to shut down on account of "japa". The hospital Management is only trying to weep public sentiment to enable them get FGN's approval to employ their family members and friends into the system.
Yes, some staff may have resigned their appointments lately but this cannot be enough to shut down even one ward in the hospital. All the propaganda being peddled are for political gains.
Education / Re: "Converting HND To Degree Is Absurd" By Punch Editorial Board by nelsonose: 9:19pm On Oct 26, 2023
LeoDeKing:
Very absurd.

Entry requirements are different, so how do you convert from one to the other on completion of the programme?

Besides, the founding mandate of both level of studies are also different. Obviously, Polytechnics have lost sight of their mandate. How else can you explain courses in social sciences and humanities being offered in Polytechnics.

Polytechnic programme leads to award of OND or HND as the case may be while university courses lead to award of Bachelor Degree, so why changing from HND to Bachelor Degree after undergoing Polytechnic education? How does that even make sense?

Absolutely absurd.

Discrimination against the HND is necessitating the change from HND to Degree. Would you rather chose to play a second fiddle in today's competitive world?

Storyland! No man or relationship or even marriage is meant to exist and thrive only as an Island. If your marriage cannot withstand interference, then it simply means the foundation was faulty to begin with. undecided
I am sorry, you missed the point. Family space should be respected. In any case, what is the guarantee that the one who is interfering knowns more than you. In Africa, we ascribe wisdom or knowledge to old age. My dear, knowledge/wisdom is not a function of age. Inasmuch as we bear the consequences of our action, we should be responsible for our decision and someone else by his/her unsolicited interference in the affairs of our homes.

One of the greatest challenges of marriage is the unsolicited interferences of in-laws and friends in your private affairs. The truth is that, those that have failed in theirs will want to pull yours down in the pretence of helping you.
The golden sermon in most marriage ceremonies is for couples to guide their marriages from external interferences. People are wicked and deceitful.

Education / Re: Top 10 Candidates In 2023 UTME As Announced By JAMB by nelsonose: 3:04pm On Jul 05, 2023
leanonme82:
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said a certain Ejikeme Mmesoma (Joy) who had earlier been celebrated to have scored the highest mark in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) falsified her result.

The board has also threatened to withdraw the candidate’s actual results for allegedly falsely announcing herself as the top-scorer of the computer-based test used to rank candidates seeking admissions into Nigerian universities.

According to JAMB, Miss Mmesoma’s actual score in the test was 249 and not the 362 she claimed to have scored...

The agency, therefore, advised the public to always cross check these claims by candidates before rushing to honour them with undeserving awards. Meanwhile, JAMB has said it would withdraw the results of Miss Mmesoma and also prosecute her.

“This is not all, as the Board would, in due course, investigate all candidates laying claims to higher scores than they actually obtained. Once discovered, such candidates’ original results would be withdrawn forthwith, and they would be handed over to relevant security agencies for prosecution.”

Source: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/607698-utme-2023-jamb-accuses-candidate-celebrated-for-scoring-highest-mark-of-falsifying-result.html

Yes, this is good and applaudable. For me, I give my regards to candidates that score excellent grades in WAEC not UTME. The reason is that over the years, WAEC has held it integrity sacrosanct. It exams are all round test/evaluation unlike JAMB's that is only objective test. In cases of leakages, WAEC can still assess students on the basis of other factors but JAMB cannot.
May I add that it is the reliability of JAMB exam results that now make Universities to do post UTME exam.
WAEC results are useful throughout one's lifetime but JAMB for only a session.
Overall best candidate in waec makes more sense to me than utme.

Romance / Re: *Types Of Spirits That Delay Your Marriages* by nelsonose: 3:20am On Jun 26, 2023
FalseProphet1:
1. *Boy-friend* This is that spirit that will keep scaring away serious and well meaning suitors because they'll be thinking that the boyfriend that always hangs around you actually wanted to marry you. To cast out this spirit, you don't need to pray about it. Just quit the relationship.

2 *Engagement ring* This is that spirit that makes you keep raising your finger to show the world that one young man that is still serving the master engaged you and when the serious suitors see the ring, they'll pass over you because something in them tells them you
have been engaged. To cast out this spirit, you don't need prayers, just remove that key holder in your finger.

3. *Hard to get* This is that spirit that tells you not to accept a marriage proposal in a hurry so that the brother will not think you were too cheap or desperate. It tells you to tell him to give you six months to pray, don't always pick his calls, behave as if you are not interested even though you are dying on the inside and truly love the brother. This spirit is truly from your village people, the day it will release you is that day the brother would have agreed to marry another and you'll be the one to start him and his number will say.... Thank
you for using MTN. To cast out this spirit, just be real. If you love the brother and you perceive he is God's will for you, just accept the proposal and move on with your marriage!

4. *Proud spirit* That spirit that tells you to always run home after service so that no brother will talk to you, maybe he'll meet you in the dream. Before the brother would prepare what to say, you have gone home. That spirit that tells you that every brother that greets you has an evil intention, so
don't answer them. That spirit that doesn't
allow you to greet brothers except those that
ride cheap and exotic cars. That spirit that
tells you to be walking fast every time as if
something is pursuing you from the back. Well, I don't know how you can cast out this
spirit o, but I think humility and being moderate might help.

5. *Denominational/tribal spirit* I am a Catholic and must marry a Catholic. Your villagers are really at work. I'm a Deeper Lifer and must marry one whose life is also Deep. I am a Chosen and must marry from Chosen because others were rejected. I am an Anglican and must marry an Anglican even if God is leading me to do otherwise. I am from Hausa tribe and must marry from my tribe. I'm from Imo state and must not marry from Abia. This spirit has kept many bound, they entered menopause and are about to retire to village. To cast out this spirit of delay, understand that every believer is from one tribe called Christ. If God is leading you to another denomination, kindly obey Him, but let it be God.

Finally…

6. *Dirtiness* That spirit that tells you not to dress well because you are going to heaven. It tells you to use tarpaulin to sew your dress, wear green skirt, yellow blouse and lemon head tie. When brothers see you, their nightmare will increase and they will go for personal deliverance. You are a lady but dresses like a man; you don't brush your tongue, when you talk the heaven closes and the earth trembles.

This spirit can only be cast out by understanding that cleanliness is next to godliness. Dress well, don't under dress and
don't over dress. Dress modestly, smell good
because it's not sin. Smell like a living being
and not a dead being. Jesus appreciated the
woman that broke the oil that smells good
and truly He enjoyed the fragrance. So which
Jesus did you actually accept that abhors
such?
God bless us all.

Copied.

So true! Thank you for writing this piece.
Those who want to learn, let them learn.

[ARCHIVES] Supreme Court upheld candidates must win 25% votes in 24 states, plus 25% in FCT in Buhari v Obasanjo [2005]

The clarity came from a Supreme Court ruling in a case involving Muhammadu Buhari of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Olusegun Obasanjo of the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, July 15, 2005.

In its ruling, the apex court had upheld that presidential candidates must win 25 per cent of all votes cast in 24 states, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

READ: https://news.band/archives-supreme-court-upheld-candidates-must-win-25-votes-in-24-states-plus-25-in-fct-in-buhari-v-obasanjo-2005/

Having read the above judgement, I can see some sense in the claim that FCT is a separate and distinct entity from the Federating states and thus 25% vote win in it must be satisfied for a president to emerge.
This position having been held previously by the court, the court cannot now contradict itself in the present circumstances.
In summary, the direction of the upcoming court verdict is clear.

JAMB makes fool of itself and shows great incompetence in the conduct UTME mock.
Why should JAMB post a candidate to an examination town different from the candidate's choice. Some candidates have had to abandoned their exams because of logistics and security problems arising from this wicked act of jamb.
Imagine forcing a minor to travel about 200km to a strange geo-political zone amidst bad road, possible kidnapping and incurring hotel cost for sleeping over, all in name of writing UTME mock.
This is greatly unfair to candidates no matter the reasons advanced for this practice. Above all, exam is meant for the living as such JAMB must learn to respect the choices made by it's candidates.

Slurity:
Except for a very rare cases, if you graduate with 3rd class degree in Nigeria, just go and learn another business or you further your study to get a second degree, my over 10 years of job seeking and helping companies to recruit clearly point to the fact that 3rd class has less than 30% chance of getting invitations for interview and less than 10% chance of beating other competitors, people already form an opinion about them before even hearing them out.

Your views are valid. With 3rd class degree, society will hardly give you an opportunity to prove your worth. However, this opens the candidate's mind to reality. In that wise, a serious minded persons goes back to the University for a 3-year course via direct entry more purposefully to grab a 2.1 degree thus remedy his 3rd class challenges for life.
Going back to the University may not be easy, but it is still a lot better than carrying the albatross of a 3rd class for life.
Obtaining higher degrees seem good but this may not be a perfect remedy for a 3rd class degree as first degree majorly form basis for the evaluation of candidates for many jobs in Nigeria today.
