EducationRe: Ajayi Crowther University VC Blast Parents And Students In Open Letter by nelsonose: 12:59pm On Mar 31, 2019
IamaNigerianGuy:
Very low quality of discourse. Certainly this letter is not at the level or standard expected of a Vice Chancellor. It is emotional condescending and abusive. The VC vents his frustrations instead of providing solutions. After all he was appointed to lead the university.
Can you imagine the president of Harvard or Oxford writing this ?
The message is clear and that is what should bother you. If it is easy to be a VC, you attain the feat before finding fault on anyone at that level.
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Much A Sewing Machine Cost In 1983 by nelsonose: 2:25am On Mar 03, 2019
OkaNaUbe:
Then, I don de swallow fufu.

Let us see how bad our Naira has depreciated.

Computing the dollar equivalent of N246 in 1983

In 1983, $1=0.724NGN
Therefore $? =246NGN for sewing machine

Cross multiplying

N246 X 1$/ 0.724 = $339.77
is the price in USD of the machine in 1983.

Fast forward to 2019>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

As at today, 2/02/2019, 1$ = 361.50 (official)

Converting the dollar equivalent of the price of the sewing machine in 1983 to today's value in Naira:

Since 1$ today = N361.50
Price of Sewing machine in 1983(in $) = $339.77

1$ =N 361.50
339.77$ = ?N

Cross multiplying

= N361.50 x N339.77/1 = N122,826.86 (value today)

Therefore, the price of that Sewing machine in 1983 can buy about 4 Butterfly brand sewing machines in 2019.

Very interesting. These calculations would be more meaningful if you factor-in the entry point salary of a graduate in the federal civil service in 1983 and 2019

Lame excuse! Tell us sometime else. About 3 years ago we knew election would hold in 2019. Wasn't there enough time to plan for it? What we are seeing now is exactly what played out in Edo governorship election of 2016. There is God oh!

EducationRe: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by nelsonose: 6:11pm On Dec 01, 2018
jmaine:
Even when the Military went further by hounding and physically harassing ASUU members like Professor Sagay in Uniben using the then VC Professor Alele Williams, they eventually lost the war.

Prof. Sagay and his family were literally evicted and thrown into the streets from the Staff quarters and yet those who were persecuted prevailed.

If ASUU could dare the Military Junta who is Buhari that is even held hostage by the Aso Rock cabal to intimidate ASUU.
Rubbish! Who can dare the strength of FG if it means to do anything? It is obvious that government is now taken for granted due to ignorance of the people. Change is the only permanent thing in life. If ASUU had it way years back, it may not be that lucky always.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by nelsonose:
This policy of FGN is apt and quite commendable. For whatever reason, the incessant strike by ASUU in public Universities is becoming worrisome. Regrettably, these guys are still living in the past and would soon be relegated to the same level with NUT especially with the multiplicity of private Universities in the country. It is gradually becoming history, times when you find children of serving governors or ministers in public universities.
My advice to ASUU. Thread with caution, swallow your pride and go back to the classroom. Times are changing.

HealthRe: Nigerian Universities Set To Commence Degree Programe In Herbal Medicine by nelsonose: 4:41pm On Jun 03, 2018
Would this be part of the NMA or JOHESU group?
HealthRe: JOHESU Agrees To Suspend Strike June 1 by nelsonose: 4:18pm On May 30, 2018
The Agreement at National Industrial Court are as follows:
1. Court takes over the negotiations between
JOHESU & Govt in its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre.

2. JOHESU & Govt side are to nominate their representatives in the ADR process within 24 hours.

3. The agreement reached at the ADR Centre will be registered in the Court as judgment binding on both parties.

4. JOHESU is to initiate the process of allowing normalcy to return to hospitals within 3 days.

Appeal from us: JOHESU is still consulting to take a decision which will be communicated to members accordingly. All social media & newspaper propaganda must be ignored until you hear from your representatives.

We are right now in the Senate for a meeting with the Senate President; NLC & TUC Leadership fully with us in the Senate now for the meeting.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks.
HealthStill On JOHESU National Strike by nelsonose(op): 12:45pm On Apr 26, 2018
JOHESU DEMANDS

a) Approval and Circularization of adjusted CONHESS Salary Structure, having done same for NMA members.

b) Payment of backlog of arrears as a result of COHESS 10 Skipping.

c) Employment of more staff to strengthen the health sector.

d) Release of Circular for reviewed retirement age from 60 to 65 years.

e) Implementation of NICN judgments in favour of JOHESU members.

One will quickly ask the question,
why would any of these demands hurt and deprive any other health care professionals, particularly the Nigerian Medical Association of anything, that will warrant them to threaten the Government.

Again, Nigerians want to know if the Nigerian Medical Association is the *FOURTH ARM* of Government, after the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative arms.

Nigerians may wish to know too, if NMA is the employer of Labour for the government?

If NMA has also taken over or been contracted to function as the National Council on Establishment that they can review schemes of services of other professionals?

Ok, NMA had made themselves to function as the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission for Nigeria and Nigerians.

For JOHESU demands (a) and (b) NMA members had received N1.5b from the government. JOHESU never protested or winked.

For (c) is in line with the adopted and gazetted 1981 report of Mr. Gamaliel Onosode to the government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

When categorizing Agencies and parastatals, the Committee headed by Mr. Gamelial Onosode in 1981 recommended that the Teaching Hospitals functions as Academic Institutions, hence both staff of Teaching Hospitals and Universities should enjoy the ESSENTIALLY THE SAME CONDITIONS OF SERVICE.
The Universities had been granted that condition of 70years for professors and 65years for all other staff.
Where had JOHESU gone wrong?.

d) Ok, probably the employment of more staff to replace the elderly and retiring staff will hurt and deprive NMA members.

e) the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) had given judgments in favour of JOHESU:

I) that no profession has the right to lord itself over another profession.

2) that Medical Laboratory Services should exist as distinct Department in the Hospitals.

How will these judgements infringe on the fundamental rights and privileges of the Medical Doctors?

Nigerians should see and decide accordingly.

JOHES4U WILL USE EVERY MEANS LEGALLY POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS FOR NIGERIAN HEALTH SECTOR.

CareerRe: Enquiries: Chartered Institute Of Personnel Management [CIPM] Membership by nelsonose: 4:13am On Apr 21, 2018
omoISEYIN:
Hello Everyone,

This platform is open for general questions on how to be a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Of Nigeria.
CIPM is the professional body that certify and regulate the practice of human resource management in Nigeria.
For young aspiring human resource managers, CIPM is the most relevant if not the only institute for HR professionals.

Currently HR professionals are one of the most sought after people in the corporate world, aside the fact that you become a key person
in your organisation personally, I think there is a kinda preside and reputations that comes with your job title.......

So lets keep the ball rolling for questions on CIPM registration....
I have a degree in Accounting and Master in Business Administration. At what level can I start CIPM? What are the stages I am required to go through and what is the expected duration of completion?
EducationRe: 7 Reasons Why Polytechnic Students Are Rated 2nd Class Student. by nelsonose: 2:31am On Apr 20, 2018
archipelago:
All The seven (7) reasons listed are baseless and non could hold water at all. Go and check records of professional examinations like ICAN, CIBN and so on, you will discover that HND holders passes these examinations more than the degree holders. Please carry out a research and you will confirm this.
Take it or leave it. HND+ICAN+PGD+anything without first degree is still an issue. Those who wear the shoe, know were it pinches. Honestly, the first degree is over rated in Nigeria. Degree in just anything makes the difference.

Your father didn't build the house himself and he is pushing that responsibility on you and even using a strong arm to make you do it.

I think you should ask him why he didn't build the house before he got married and why you have to do it now. You are a man...an adult. Dad cannot dictate your life. Who ia dictating his life? [quote author=nelsonose post=63811892]
This is rude. Your dad knows better than you in matters like this.
EducationRe: Stop! Don't Buy That HND Form! by nelsonose: 2:45pm On Dec 17, 2017
If you are not self employed already and would be seeking for employment after your program, please I beg you in the name of whatever you worship, don't buy that HND form.

Don't make that mistake. Buy Direct Entry form or buy UTME form to start afresh at a conventional University. You also have the opportunity of approaching any Open University study center close to you and explore the opportunities therein available. All of these would eventually make you get a University degree. Worry less about the number of years and fund involved. Please don't buy that HND form.

Don't be fooled by those who will tell you that you can always proof your worth on the field. See, the truth is that you may not even be given the opportunity to proof anything at all. A large percentage of Nigerian employers including the government worship certificates and there isn't any traces that they might change any soon.

Take for instance, Ogun government commenced the sale of ASCON forms for the employment into the civil service of the state and HND holders are barred from partaking in the exercise. Even if you make it to the civil service through other avenues, there's is a level beyond which you can't rise because of your HND background. Why would you want to be subjected to such ridicule? Don't buy that form!

You may also be thinking of doing PGD, Masters and PhD later on. Well some universities wouldn't let you pass the Masters stage. LASU for Instance specifically stated that MED holders with HND and PGDE background are not eligible to apply for PhD. You see, the discrimination is huge and you wouldn't like it later on. Please drop the idea of the HND form.

What I don't understand is why the government and others in charge of our education have not scrapped these Polytechnics. Why would they allow them to churn out products that are not accorded the right respect in the society? Scrap the Polytechnics or at best stop them from awarding HND Certificates forthwith

Don't get carried away with the fact that HND holders are also called graduates and are allowed to partake in the NYSC scheme. See, the euphoria of their 'graduates' status expires with NYSC. If you doubt me, try to pick up a masters form with your HND after your NYSC. The discrimination is huge and you wouldn't like it.

Whilst it is true that some HND holders are doing very very well in their various fields, their percentage is also very very small compared to those battling with the ridiculous discrimination both in public and private establishments. Why would you therefore allow yourself experience such mockery after spending five years pursuing the certificate. (2 years for ND, 1 year for IT and another 2 years for the HND)

It is good to be educated but please be educated properly at least In Nigeria's context. This is because the most ridiculed certificate in Nigeria now is the HND Certificate.

Again, if you don't have a business of your own and would be seeking employment later on, don't buy that HND form. My two cents.
