Politics › Kogi, Bayelsa: I’ll ‘amputate’ Any Politicians That Tries To Rig Elections – IGP by neolboy(op): 2:13pm On Nov 17, 2015
AHEAD of governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, yesterday threatened to “ampututate” any erring politician who tries to manipulate the exercise.

Kogi State will conduct its poll this Saturday while Bayelsa takes its turn on December 5, 2015. The IGP spoke in Abuja during a meeting with Squadron Commanders in preparation for the elections and other issues affecting the police force.

Addressing the officers, Mr. Arase said: “Again, gentlemen, we are at the threshold of another election in Kogi and Bayelsa states scheduled to hold on November 21 and December 5, 2015 respectively. Our resolve and competence will once again be tested in this onerous assignment and we cannot afford to fail.
“As we drive the process, let me warn that any person that attempts to test the will of the force by engaging in any act that negates the electoral law or engages in any crime with intent to derail or compromise the integrity of the exercise will be isolated and firmly dealt with.

“Anybody and politicians who think that they can use the police to win election, I think they have a second thinking coming. They have to go to the field and contest, win the hearts and minds of the electorates.
“My own job is very easy, I am to provide a level playing field, emplace a robust security architecture that nobody will be able to test and I just mentioned it in my address, any politician who tests my will, will be severely dealt with, they will be amputated, I can assure you that,” Mr. Arase said.

The IGP also warned his officers and other security agencies that will be deployed to complement the police to situate their operations within the professional ethics, stating that any personnel found to be engaged in demeaning their official callings will be similarly dealt with.
According to him, “I have also told my officers that if they make themselves available for any politician to use them and assault the electoral process, then, severe disciplinary measures will be taken against you. The era of those things are already past, we are professional security managers and that is exactly what we are going to do”, Arase said.

On the commitment of the President to ensure a credible election, the IGP said: “I can assure you that the President has not given us any order to compromise the result of the elections that will be conducted in the two states, instead, he has insisted that we must go and ensure that credible elections are conducted wherever it is going to be conducted and he repeatedly said it that he has been a victim of electoral manipulation and he cannot see him- self now in this position supporting the same thing that has happened to him as a President.”
On the deployment of men in the Northeast, Arase told his men to get ready because President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the procurement of equipment to curb terrorism in the region.

He said: “ I can authoritatively tell you that the President has actually ordered us to get equipment that we need to move into the Northeast and not just moving into the Northeast with our bare hands, the necessary things that we actually needed for our officers to perform and that is why I can authoritatively convoke this meeting with our operational arm of the Nigeria Police Force to tell them that they should get ready and that once we have these equipment, we are going to roll in and ensure that civil authority is restored in those areas.

On the casualty figure of police officers from Boko Haram attacks, he said: “Casualties are not things that lend themselves to mathematical figures, they keep rising and I keep losing men everyday not only to insurgency but to other factors like robbery and we must know that there must be casualty when it comes to cases of internal security.
“I can tell you that the casualty figure is high, we have been trying to carry out some research to know how many widows we have because from the widows we have, we will be able to ascertain the number of some officers that have been lost,” he said.

He, however, noted that the police management has vowed to take care of families of those who have died by incorporating scholarship scheme to take care of their children.

Politics › Yorubas In North Wants Fulani Cattle Rearers Face-off Resolve by neolboy(op): 1:35pm On Nov 17, 2015
BY NDAHI MARAMA, Maiduguri

The Yoruba Council of Obas in the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have advocated for an amicable resolution of the face-off between farmers in the southwest and Fulani cattle rearer over grazing activities.

Arising from its 5th Quarterly meeting in Abuja, the council implored the Ondo State government to resolve the Fulani Cattle rearers-farmers’ conflict to avoid spill over to the northern part of the country.

A communique signed by the council’s acting Chairman who is also Mai (Oba) of Yoruba in Borno, Alhaji Hassan Yusuf and Dr Alani Adeyemi, Oba Yoruba Gombi, made available to journalists in Maiduguri yesterday, it appealed to the Ondo State governor to use his experience in resolving the problem “We implore the Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko to use his good office to resolve the ongoing crisis between the Fulani Cattle rearers and farmers in the state amicably and quickly to avoid spill over effect,” the council said.

It advised non-indigenes living in the southwest states and north to abide by the rules and traditional laws of the state they reside. It also urged them to continue to live harmoniously and peacefully with their hosts.

The council commended President Mohammadu Buhari for what it described as his genuine efforts at addressing immediate needs of the country especially the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and other security challenges, calling for support from all Nigerians.

Politics › Breaking News: Women Stage Protest In Benin City by neolboy(op): 12:35pm On Nov 17, 2015
Reports reaching Naij.com have it that some women are currently protesting in Benin City, the Edo state capital against Governor Adams Oshiomole.

According to Omosode Igbinedion, a daughter of billionaire Gbariel Igbinedion, indignant women are protesting against the governor’s unbridled utterances.

The protesters who are dressed in red are marching along the streets of the state’s capital and carry placards that read ‘Osho You Are A Bad Man’.On November 9, Patrick Obahiagbon, the chief of staff to Governor Oshiomhole, was attacked by angry protesters who pelted him with stones.

People were protesting against what they called multiple taxation and introduction of land use charges, and insisted that the governor must address them in person to listen to their grievances.

Meanwhile, Lucky Igbinedion, a former governor of Edo state, blasted Oshiomhole , calling him the biggest thief in Benin City. He also called on his successor to explain to the people of the state how he spent the federal allocations and internal generated revenues running into trillions naira in seven years.

Politics › Buhari: Real Reason Why I Delay Appointing My Cabinet by neolboy(op): 11:55am On Nov 17, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari says the delay in forming his cabinet was due to the inadequacy of the handover notes he received from his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari said this in Abuja yesterday at a conference on “Strengthening Nigeria’s Transition Frameworks for Democratic Consolidation,” organised by the National Democratic Institute (NDI)
.
The president, whose speech was delivered by the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, said the handover notes he received from Jonathan did not disclose the information that would help his government.

He said upon assuming office, he had to take briefings from ministries, departments and agencies for almost two months even as he had to attend to other serious issues of governance.
The president explained further: “In order to achieve its mandate, the transition committee which I constituted after our historic victory in the last election had hoped that the outgoing government’s team will sit down with our committee to ensure an orderly handover of notes, exchange of views and clarifications.”
President Buhari also stated that Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were not mentally prepared for their defeat in the 2015 general elections.

According to the president, Jonathan and the PDP were also not prepared for any transition that would not be from themselves to themselves.

Politics › If Anyone Has Evidence That I Stole, Publish It — Ben Bruce by neolboy(op): 1:03pm On Nov 16, 2015
The chairman of Silverbird Groups and lawmaker representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District , Ben Murray Bruce, has challenged anyone with evidence that he stole money to publish it.

The #commonsense advocate said that he founded Silverbird with a loan of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) from his father in 1980 and he is happy that it has become a business empire, employing and creating jobs for thousands of Nigerians and others. The company is celebrating her 35th anniversary.
“I founded Silverbird in 1980 with a ₦20, 000 loan from my father and on November 21st we will be celebrating 35 years. Thank you Nigeria!”
“Silverbird is evidence you dont need to steal to make it in Nigeria. If anyone has evidence (not innuendo) that I stole, please publish it,” he posted on his Twitter handle.

Some of his critics have alleged that the media mogul might have enriched himself during his days as Director General of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, but he has denied such allegations and challenged anyone with evidence to publish same.

In a recent interview with Vanguard, Senator Bruce noted that when he took over NTA, it was broadcasting six hours a day but he brought 24 hour television broadcast to the country. He is also credited to have revived the cinema culture in Nigeria as well as entertainment on radio and on TV.
