@poster, if you are new to the programming concept in general i will say that you start with python, but you also have to put into consideration what you want to do with the programs that you will end up writing, "FUN OR SALE"

if you want to write programs with ease and with market values , learn C# and asp.net though broad, but the good thing about the language is that you do not need to have any knowledge of c or c++ to get started with it as long as you get a good text book on it, though knowledge on them will help,

personally am not a big fan of php, and i will not advise that you try diving into assembly language or you might end up never programming again,
C# also has a very large market demand world wide just like java, but its a lot easier to comprehend

in my own view i will say that you dont need dreamweaver if u choose to go with a language like C# asp.net or VB.Net asp.net

but if u decide to go with a language like php than u will probably need to learn DW, well i develop in c#asp.net and it comes with a lot of tools compared to dreamweaver, go with it, it give u the opportunity to learn both desktop and web based programming faster

i would like to ask u this question, why are programming languages created?

i have to agree with u, on the fact that threads should be created to assist new programmer, and not for confussion

if u studied computer science in a well informed univeristy,(NOT NIIT, etc), not some institution where u go in and do a lot of theory, then u must have had practical courses on

1)data structure and algorithm
2)compiler construction
3) organization of programming language
4)systems evaluation and performance

, then u would know how to place ur arguments, ur sounding like someone that learnt programming off ebooks (only 1 out of a 1000 know what they are doing)

funny, sound like what i did for as my final year project in school, "computerized examination taking marking and result publication", my program allows user to register for a certain exam and once they are registertered they are allowed to take the examination, result viewing and publication is immediate, works over a network,quite easy,the main problem i had was the network and it was in vb 6.0, back in the days
