Politics › U.s Senate Accuses Atiku & American Wife Of $40m Illegal Transfer by nethacker(op): 8:35am On Feb 05, 2010 |
WASHINGTON DC —A REPORT on former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar was presented to the United State’s Senate yesterday.
The US Senate report which showed how funds were transferred on behalf of the former number two citizen showed that: “From 2000 to 2008, Jennifer Douglas, a U.S. citizen and the fourth wife of Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and former candidate for President of Nigeria, helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States, through wire transfers sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts.”
The report said: “In a 2008 civil complaint, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, alleged that Ms. Douglas received over $2 million in bribe payments in 2001 and 2002, from Siemens AG, a major German corporation.
“While Ms. Douglas denies wrongdoing, Siemens has already pleaded guilty to U.S. criminal charges and settled civil charges related to bribery and told the Subcommittee that it sent the payments to one of her U.S. accounts.
In 2007, Atiku Abubakar was the subject of corruption allegations in Nigeria related to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.
“Of the $40 million in suspect funds, $25 million was wire transferred by offshore corporations into more than 30 U.S. bank accounts opened by Ms. Douglas, primarily by Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., LetsGo Ltd. Inc., and Sima Holding Ltd.
“The U.S. banks maintaining those accounts were, at times, unaware of her PEP status, and they allowed multiple, large offshore wire transfers into her accounts. As each bank began to question the offshore wire transfers, Ms. Douglas indicated that all of the funds came from her husband and professed little familiarity with the offshore corporations actually sending her money. When one bank closed her account due to the offshore wire transfers, her lawyer helped convince other banks to provide a new account.
“In addition, two of the offshore corporations wire transferred about $14 million over five years to American University in Washington, D.C., to pay for consulting services related to the development of a Nigerian university founded by Abubakar.
“American University accepted the wire transfers without asking about the identity of the offshore corporations or the source of their funds, because under current law, the University had no legal obligation to inquire. and me dey here dey read like person wey wan mad cos i wan qualify for tuition waiver and scholarship for my sch Oh LAWD hv MERCY!!!!!! |

PapaBrowne: I call it the mystery of existence!!
While some people are compelled to pay hundreds of thousands to attend school, others are paid monies to compel them to attend school.
Anyways, I don't believe university tuition should ever be free or too cheap, rather scholarships should be given to high performing students who cannot afford to pay. WORD!!!! As for moi i pay $17,000 per session(tuition only)

afrodoc: Abeg now make person answer my own question na! I made an inquiry earlier askin if it affected your visa applicatn 2 hv a US based sponsor logically speaking,it doesnt affect but 9ja factor will always set in wen ever u tell the consular ur sponsor is abroad. Its a "minus" if u say so cos wat if the person decides to stop funding u?that is d question dat will first run thru the consular's mind.Dont 4get,they hv d mentality dat u r coming to lie to them so its now left to u to cajole and or convince them by first confusing them , tell them wat is not and be so bold to defend it. My advise,if ur sponsor can be ur parents,it will be better. Just my piece |

guydudu: US to review visa policy for Nigerians, may revoke others By Agency Reporter, Published: Wednesday, 27 Jan 2010
THE United States may soon begin rejection of Visa applications by some categories of Nigerians.
Although a statement by the US State Department did not mention the categories that would be affected, it added that visas already issued to some people might be revoked.
The plan, according to Empowered Newswire, a US-based Nigerian news agency, follows a directive by President Barrack Obama.
The US State Department supervises American embassies worldwide.
Empowered Newswire said on Tuesday that the embassies were advised to “review visa issuance and revocation criteria and processes with special emphasis on counter terrorism’.
It is believed that this directive would be actively implemented in Nigeria and other 13 countries on the US terror watch list.
Alongside the presidential directive, a US senator is also proposing that multiple visas be eradicated for Nigerians and the other countries on the terror watch list.
However, the US Embassy in Nigeria, has been absolved of any wrongdoing in the handling of the Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, the 23-year-old Nigerian that attempted to blow up a US-bound aircraft.
According to Ian Kelly, US State Department Spokesman, Embassy in Nigeria did everything they were supposed to do.”
It was gathered that Obama’s directive was addressed to several US departments and agencies with different specific instructions and policy directions.
But the State department instruction on visa is deemed one of the most crucial directives in the memo as it came first in a long line of departments and agencies.
According to the presidential memo, Obama stated that those actions including the new visa restrictions and revocation which must take place immediately ”must be taken to enhance the security of the American people.
The statement said, “The actions are necessary given inherent systemic weaknesses and human errors revealed by the review of events leading up to December 25th.
“They also are required to ensure that the standards, practices, and business processes that have been in place since the aftermath of 9/11 are appropriately robust to address the evolving terrorist threat facing our Nation in the coming years.” na formalty abeg,b4 terrorist ,the thing hard so wats d big deal, u go get am banji no kill urself |
