Christianity EtcI Am Not A Pentecostal by newmi(op): 12:22am On Jun 27, 2011
Pentecost - Shavuot - Feast of Weeks:
Pentecost or Shavuot has many names in the Bible (the Feast of Weeks, the Feast of Harvest, and the Latter Firstfruits). Celebrated on the fiftieth day after Passover, Shavuot is traditionally a joyous time of giving thanks and presenting offerings for the new grain of the summer wheat harvest in Israel. The name "Feast of Weeks" was given because God commanded the Jews in Leviticus 23:15-16, to count seven full weeks (or 49 days) beginning on the second day of Passover, and then present offerings of new grain to the Lord as a lasting ordinance.

Shavuot was originally a festival for expressing thankfulness to the Lord for the blessing of the harvest. And because it occurred at the conclusion of the Passover, it acquired the name "Latter Firstfruits." The celebration is also tied to the giving of the Ten Commandments and thus bears the name Matin Torah or "giving of the Law." Jews believe that it was exactly at this time that God gave the Torah to the people through Moses on Mount Sinai.

The apostle Paul said that the Jewish feasts and celebrations were a shadow of the things to come through Jesus Christ. Colossians 2:16-17
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ"

And though as Christians we may not commemorate these holidays in the traditional biblical sense, as we discover the significance of each, we will certainly gain a greater knowledge of God's Word, an improved understanding of the Bible, and a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Nothing is wrong with the feast or event of pentecost but the feast does not describe me or anyone bornagain as being a pentecostal so l am not a pentecostal, the feast by all standards has new testament significance one of which is the fact is a feast that is celebrated 50days after the passover which reminds me of the instruction given to Moses concerning the passover
Exodus 12:11
"And thus shall ye eat it, with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste; it is the Lord's passover"

During which a passover lamb was slain (Exodus 12:21), then Jesus in himself said "And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many" (Mark 14:22-24)
The the apostle Paul rechoed it in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
vs 26 ". . . ye do shew the Lord's death till he comes" Jesus was our passover lamb

@seyibrown
I like your response, you see the bible says
Isaiah 55:10
"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which l please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto l sent it"

The truth of the matter is that all the intelligence of that fig tree contact with the word of God immediately responded but that is didn't mean that it was to immediately translate to physical death features on the outside afterall even when a portion of a tree is cut from its source the leaves doesn't seem to die almost immediately but in a couple of time the difference will be obvious what is important is that it has been disconnected from source.

Ecclesiastes 8:4
"Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, WHt doest thou?

All that mattered was that the word had been given

Christianity EtcRe: Have Reverence For Spiritual Authority by newmi(m): 3:59pm On Jun 24, 2011
Even the apostle Paul understood the importance of have reverence for Spiritual Authority
Acts 23:1-5
"And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, l have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? Then said Paul, lwist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, THOU SHALL NOT SPEAK EVIL OF THE RULER OF THY PEOPLE"

This is a very inetresting reference because the apostle Paul out of offence and anger spoke unsavoury to the high priest as a reaction to what the high priest had done but then almost immediately he realizes his wrong and regardless of who was wrong Paul swallowed his pride and claims simply because of what the word of God says and repented with an apology.

mabell:
@dare2think,
Maybe you should say your own perception of what the anointing is.
And every child of God is anointed
This is very simple
Luke 4:18
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to PREACH THE GOSPEL to the poor; he hath sent me TO HEAL the brokenhearted, TO PREACH the deliverance to the captives, and RECOVERING of sight to the blind, TO SET AT LIBERTY them that are bruised"

The scriptures says ". . . because he hath ANOINTED me TO. . ." so we can notice and know the anointing is operative in the life of a person based on what it produces like what the bible says ". . . by their fruits we can know them. . ."
We judge righteous judgements based on the parametres of the word of God.
Like what we fing in Acts 1:8
"But ye shall recieve power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth"

"You shall recieve power. . . and you shall be witnesses"
The anointing is for doing, its for work the anointing is an empowerment and enablement for the work of witnessing we can identify the anointing at work on the grounds of what it produces according to Luke 4:18

He is real not a prophet, He is the promised Holy Spirit of Jesus spoke about in John 16:13, John 14:16-17, John 15:26 still the same person spoken of in Luke 24:49. Isaiah 44:3, Joel 2:28 l can go on and on.

Joagbaje:
There is no suggestion that a prophet is coming in that scripture. The only person coming is the antichrist

The person who will convict the world of sin is the holy spirit. He is not a prophet
John 16:7
7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable( good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter( Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you[ into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you[ to be in close fellowship with you].

Some people are asking stupid questions
why should a man of God make such a statement
would Jesus Christ had done that
em it is un-Christ like
bla bla bla
all these questions are stupid questions, it only reveals the ignorance that has gone on rampage. What was Jesus like? O my goodness Jesus every vocal and unapologetic when He had causes to declare who He was and has

John 3:31
"He that cometh from above is above all the that is of the earth is earthy, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all"

don't think this went well with the religious community of His day

another time He made bold to declare that he came from heaven
John 6:41-42
"The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, l am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then he saith, a came down from heaven?"

Another time He opened His mouth and dared to say that all things has been given to Him no He didn't keep quite

John 3:35
"The Father loveth the Son, and hath given ALL THINGS into His hand"

John 16:15
"ALL THINGS that the Father hath are MINE. . ."

please do a study on the life and style of Jesus

Christianity EtcRe: Did Jesus Discover Christianity? by newmi(m): 3:47pm On Jun 21, 2011
The term "followers of Christ" doesn't successfully, completely and satisfactorily describe who we truly are. We are more than just followers we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ not even co-heirs.
Romans 8:16-17
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint- heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with[ him], that we may be also glorified together"
Christianity EtcRe: Did Jesus Discover Christianity? by newmi(m): 3:36pm On Jun 21, 2011
God doesn't see us as Christians because He never gave us that identity the reference Christians was given to the disciples by the none Christians meaning follower of Christ (Grk:christianos)
Acts 11:26
"And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch"

JESUS DIDN'T COME TO DISCOVER CHRISTIANITY HE CAME TO GIVE LIFE "John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have[ it] more abundantly"

Christianity EtcRe: Does God Have Feelings? by newmi(m): 10:07am On Jun 19, 2011
ONE OF THE GREATEST DISCOVERY TO MAKE IN LIFE IS TO DISCOVER THE PERSON OF GOD IN RELATIONSHIP. The bible speaks about God's God's perfections (1 Peter 2:9
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation,[ God's] own a purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light"wink
The Christian can not be all that God has called Him to be until He or She begins to discover in this way

@ He is generous in dialog (Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool"

Psalms 2:4
"He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh. . . "
God is a Spirit (John 4:24 - God[ is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship[ him] in spirit and in truth) but its is also important that we recognize that He is a PERSON and a rational being thus explaining certain traits that has characterized His actions revealed to us in scriptures like:
@ He can engage in a relationship (1 John 1:3". . . and truly our fellowship[ is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ)
@ He can be grieved (Genesis 6 :6 "The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth , and his heart was filled with pain"
