Governors under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) say they were not voted into power to pay salaries alone but also to provide good roads, electricity, education and other necessary amenities.



The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Abdulaziz Yari, has spoken out on the ongoing negotiation for a new national minimum wage after a meeting of the governors of the 36 states of the federation on Wednesday night in Abuja.


According to Tribune, the Governor of Zamfara state, told reporters that the governors want the national income to be examined over the last 14 years so that its exact position can be determined.
The NGF chairman regretted that states government have been limited to only the payment of salaries and unable to take care of development responsibilities in other sectors such as health, electricity, education, among others.


He said that the governments have no magic to meet the expectations of the people if they do not have the required funds.
On minimum wage, Yari said: “We have a committee of six which represented us in discussions in the committee headed by Labour minister. The committee is yet to give us the final report.


"When they give us the final report, for which they have our mandate to present our position, and the position most likely is to look at the record of up to 14 years.
“For instance, in global practice, in your income, how much are you spending as salary? So that we can start from there. They have given us an interim report, that at the of the federal government level, over 82 per cent is being spent on overhead which cannot move the country forward in terms of infrastructure development and development that we need now.


“So, on our own part, we are saying we are going to look at how our income is trained from our final account from 14 years ago so that we can come up and stay in the middle.
“I don’t think you people voted us for only to pay salaries. You are looking for good roads, electricity, education and others. So, we can’t do magic. It’s only when we have the funds do all those things.”


Speaking against the backdrop of the freezing of Akwa Ibom and Benue states government accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Yari said that even President Muhammadu Buhari will not support the illegalities perpetrated by the agencies.
He said: “We believe strongly that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari will not sit down and supervise this illegality in the system.


“What we are saying is that we all support the government to fight corruption because it is endemic and has suffered the nation for over six decades. Definitely, it was part of what we discussed.
“What we are saying now is that we are going to support the government in terms of what it is doing to fight corruption, but the due process must be respected in whatever action the agencies are going to take in the name of fighting corruption.”

A lucky second Nigerian pilgrim on Sunday in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, recovered her lost Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA) from her hotel camp.
The pilgrim, Hassana Aliyu, from Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, was accommodated at Al-Andalus Al-Masi Hotel in the heart of Madinah.
She had reported losing 700 dollars BTA which was found by a hotel worker who promptly handed it over to the management.
No sooner had the cash been found than the management alerted NAHCON officials.
Head of Civic Enlightenment of NAHCON, Umar Bala, while handing over the cash to Aliyu, cautioned pilgrims against careless handling of their money and valuables.
Responding, Aliyu commended the hotel management, staff and NAHCON officials for their honesty in dealing with visitors.
NAN reports that a pilgrim from Nasarawa State, Nuhu Musa, had similarly recovered his lost 600 dollars from the same hotel.
Meanwhile, NAHCON says it has transported 26,697 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, with the arrival of additional 177 pilgrims from Oyo and Ogun states on Sunday.
The pilgrims came in 65 flights operated by accredited airliners comprising Max Air, Flynass and Medview.
The Oyo state pilgrims comprised 99 males and 72 females.

Oluwo of Iwoland, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has appealed to the federal government of Nigeria, led by Muhammed Buhari, to leave past leaders to God for the country to move forward. “The fear of Buhari is the beginning of a sane administrative set up, he said. ‘‘Forgive the past, your enlightenment/awareness is a signal to decimate corruption, he concluded.”
Oluwo noted the anti-corruption war has divided the governance even as the victims continually frustrate every means devised to propel Nigeria’s greatness. He called on the presidency to launch a forgiveness awareness and a capital punishment for potential corrupt leaders.
“Most questionable past leaders who are not part of the incumbent administration and answerable to anti-graft agencies, are frustrating the effort at ensuring Nigeria is great. In the Nigerian government cycle, none of the officials are new. The seemingly new breed are fixed or promoted by past leaders majority of whom have questions with EFCC or ICPC. As such, they orchestrate dramas that end up making Nigeria ungovernable thanks to their planted moles. The solution is to forgive them and enact capital punishment for new leaders who engage in any act of corruption.”
The monarch said no Nigerian will vote anyone that has been exposed by the anti-graft agencies. He then urged the president to take a cue from his anti-cultural corruption awareness.
“Few months ago, I took the courage to apologise to the victims of slavery which our kings championed, as well as other vices traceable to ancient stools. Many Africans from all continents have applauded that and ready to reconnect for progress. I want Buhari and his cabinet to emulate this. Forgive past leaders, implement capital punishment for prospective embezzlers and concentrate on governance.”
Oba Akanbi said the development of Nigeria is not negotiable. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to see themselves as part of the incumbent administration, criticise constructively and assess government performance objectively.
He went on to condemned the politics of hatred among political parties and beseeched politicians, irrespective of their affiliation to see governance as a collective duty rather than resulting to campaign of calumny and name calling.
He urged emerging leaders to embrace all inclusive government characterised with competent individual irrespective of political attachment.

A man’s corpse was discovered yesterday in a community in Katsina state as it was alleged that he might have been killed by suspected ritualists.
According to reports, the young man was discovered dead in an uncompleted building in the area – with his eyes and some parts of his body removed by his killers.

A couple has been arrested in the South-eastern part of Nigeria after they decided to sell their child for a huge sum of money.



The police in Imo State have arrested a couple, Glory and Ugochukwu Nwachukwu for selling their four-month-old son, Marvelous, for N400,000.
Parading the couple and other suspects at the command’s headquarters in Owerri on Wednesday, the State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, said that the action of the couple who hail from Umueme Obike in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state was despicable.


Apart from trafficking their son, the CP disclosed that the suspects also kidnapped and sold another two other babies.
The police boss said, “The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command on July 20, at Umuokai Owerre-Nta in the Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State.


“The suspects conspired and lured one Jovita of Irrette Owerri West LGA of Imo state to Naze, Owerri North LGA where they tactically abducted her two children, Adaugo Olive, who is three years and six months old and his six months old younger brother, Daniel Oliver, and then sold them to unknown persons.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime and other child-trafficking cases within Imo state and its environs.”


According to Galadanchi, the operatives were trailing other fleeing members of the gang.
The police boss said that the breakthrough was as a result of the synergy that existed between his command and members of the public.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki Wednesday declared that his occupation of the office of the presidency of the Senate was not ceded to him by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, but through an election by senators.
He made the declaration while briefing newsmen across the world over the siege to the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS.
His reaction followed the persistent calls by the ruling party for him to relinquish his official position as Senate President given the fact that he recently defected the APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Responding to this demand, he said, “I was not made the Senate President solely by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, but through my contest and victory in the election of the Senate presidency conducted by the upper chamber.
“It was a mandate by all the lawmakers from different political platforms.

“The position by the rule of the parliament is not a preserve of any political party even not on whether or not the party in majority. But the collective majority of individual members of the parliament across party lines.”

Saraki, however, maintained that his emergence and occupation of the office was by the extant rule and his removal as being plotted by some disaffected members must also come through the same rule.

Niger State Governor, has said that there is no cause for apprehension over reports of a plan to defect from All Progressive Congress to other political parties.



The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello, has said that he has no plan to defect from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to any other political party.
The governor made the clarification following the defection of some governors and members of the National Assembly to the opposition People’s Democratic Party.


Mr Sani-Bello, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Ndace, said he remained consistent in support of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and committed to party ideals.
Mr Sani-Bello said the ruling APC of which he is not only a member, but a strong stakeholder, remains the only political party to rescue Nigeria from the many wrongs of the past administration.


“In the last three years, we have shown commitment to the needs and aspirations of Nigerlites through restoration agenda predicated on agriculture, health, education, peace and security, youth and women empowerment and infrastructural development.


“We demonstrated through completion of abandoned and uncompleted projects by past administration that government is about the people. It is on this account that i seek to renew my mandate from Nigerlites.”


He stated that President Buhari is doing well in terms of infrastructural development in the state and the country; while the state government is fulfilling the yearning and aspirations of the people, hence there was no justification to defect.


The governor listed some of the Buhari-led government’s interventions in the state to state include the dredging and actualisation of Baro port, the dualisation of Minna-Suleija road, award of contract for construction of Bida-Agaie-Lapai-Lambata road as well as the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed Bridge along Kutigi – Mokwa road among others.


“At various fora with stakeholders and political gladiators in the country, we have reechoed our loyalty to the party and will continue to remain supportive of president Buhari.
” President Muhammadu Buhari remains a stabilising factor in strengthening the nation’s unity.


“I and my colleagues have already set in motion a political.strategy to lead a successful campaign for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.”
“President Muhammadu Buhari means well for Nigeria. He is passionate about Nigeria that he forgets himself.He is not trying to decieve Nigerians, he is trying to get a great future for Nigerians.”


Gov Sani-Bello stated that he shared President Buhari’s vision for a new Nigeria through diversification and building beyond oil economy, increasing Internal Generated Revenue,IGR, completion of abandoned or inherited projects nation.
The governor said there is no cause for apprehension because Niger State has remained predominantly an APC state and its political affiliation will continue to wax even stronger.

Scientists have made an incredible discovery about the Great Pyramid of Giza which can focus electromagnetic energy in its internal chambers and its base.

There is also a third, unfinished chamber beneath the base of the huge structure.

Three students have been arraigned on a two-count of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, by a Magistrates' Court for beating and detaining their fellow student.



A Minna Magistrates’ Court, has remanded three students in prison custody for allegedly beating and detaining their fellow student on suspicion that he stole an HTC handset, valued N32, 000.
The accused persons are, Jibrin Attahiru and Idris Usman, both of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai and one other student, Shehu Abdullahi, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.


The three students were arraigned on a two-count of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. John Steven, told the court that one Mohammed Aliyu, the Chief Security Officer of IBB University Lapai, reported the matter at the station on July 24.


Steven said the accused persons suspected one Mubarak Sanusi, a student of the same institution, to have stolen an HTC handset, valued N32, 000 belonging to one of them.
He said the accused persons picked up Sanusi and took him to their lodge, where they beat him up and detained him inside the toilet.
According to him, Sanusi was said to have died on the way to the General Hospital, Lapai, the following day.


When the charge was read to them, they all pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, thereafter, prayed the court for an adjournment, as an investigation into the matter was still ongoing.
In her ruling, Magistrate Fati Auna ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter until Sept. 3.

Nearly 600 migrants stormed border fence and attack security forces to make it into Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco.
Spanish authorities said officers were assaulted with quicklime when migrants charged border fences separating Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco last Thursday.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil police force in Ceuta said the migrants managed to climb over the double barrier, which is covered in small blades.
They scrambled over 'all of a sudden, with much violence,' and some attacked police with quicklime they had in tubes and bottles. As a result, 'more than a dozen police' were injured with the substance, four of whom had to go to hospital for burns to their faces and arms.
According to the Spanish Red Cross, they called to check on 592 people after the massive charge, and they found out that 132 migrants had been injured as they scaled the high, barbed-wire fences.

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has announced his retirement from international football, after over 12 years of active service with Ghana.
The 35-year-old, who is currently without a club after parting ways with Indonesian outfit Persib Bandung, last featured for the Black Stars in 2014 at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
He was one of the three players, alongside Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng, accused of masterminding agitations for players appearance fees during the tournament.
He maintains doing nothing wrong.
“If I am called to play for the Black Stars again I won't honour it. No, it's not possible,” Essien told GHOne TV.
“This is because I've retired from international duty. I even retired before we went to the World Cup in Brazil but I was called back [by coach Kwesi Appiah] to come and help.
“And then in Brazil they treated me like [something] so I'm not playing for the country again. It's time for the new generation,” he added.
Essien made his Ghana debut in 2002 and boasts of 58 caps as well as nine goals. He was a key member of the country's golden generation that played their first-ever Fifa World Cup in 2006.

Armed with his excellent results, the young man applied to study Aerospace Engineering in USA. After verification of his results, he was granted scholarship at the Wichita State University in Kansas city.
The teenage boy has also been granted visa as he’s due to travel very soon for his studies.

President Muhammadu Buhari said Sunday night that he was not bothered about the defections in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President made his feelings known while responding to a question during an interactive session with the Nigerian community in Togo at the Nigerian Embassy, Lome, Togo.
Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Monday, quoted the president as saying that most Nigerians appreciated the performance of his administration.
President Buhari said: “I am not bothered about the defections. Ordinary Nigerians have developed confidence in us and are defending us.
“I assure you, majority of Nigerians back home are appreciative of our efforts.”
While expressing delight in seeing the Nigerians who had travelled from the five regions of Togo to welcome him in Lome, President Buhari said he was pleased to hear them commend the performance of his administration.


He assured them that his administration had remained steadfast in keeping to its three campaign promises of providing security, improving the economy and fighting corruption.
The President noted that if past governments had utilised even 25 per cent of the huge oil revenue available to them, Nigerians would not be complaining today.
He cited the 16 billion dollars reportedly spent on electricity and yet Nigerians could not see the power.
He, however, restated his administration’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure, providing loans to farmers thereby cutting rice importation by more than 90 per cent.
President Buhari said all recovered illegally acquired assets would now be sold and the money paid into the treasury in the administration’s renewed anti-graft campaign.
“I assure you that we are making progress in security as some displaced farmers are returning to their farms.
“We will continue to work very hard for our dear country,” he stressed.
In his welcome address, the Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Joseph Olusola Iji, said the close to two million Nigerians in Togo were law-abiding and peaceful.
He, however, drew the president’s attention to the inability of the Nigerian Mission in Lome to issue Nigerian passports, making applicants to go to Ghana or Benin Republic.
Representatives of top bank executives, who spoke at the event, commended the economic policies of the Federal Government especially the Ease of Doing Business, agricultural revolution and anti-corruption campaign,
According to the presidential aide, other leaders of the Nigerian Community at the event also lauded the discipline, transparency and accountability that the current administration has introduced into governance.
“They also called for government assistance towards the completion of community’s on-going school building project in order to overcome the lack of good English schools in that country,’’ he said.
On its part, the APC Togo Chapter, told President Buhari not to be worried about the defections from the party, assuring him of its support in the 2019 presidential election.
The meeting with the Nigerian Community was the President’s first official engagement on arrival in Lome ahead of the Joint ECOWAS/Economic Community of Central African States Summit,
President Buhari will also be participating in the 53rd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, among others.

Minister of Information and culture, Alh Lai Mohammed has said that all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state in the camp of the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, holding various federal government appointments are to resign immediately or risked being sacked.

Recall that six members of house of representatives from Kwara state were among those who dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic party (PDP)during the week.

Minister of Information and culture, Alh Lai Mohammed who gave the directive at a press conference in his country, home, Oro in Irepodun local government area of Kwara state on Sunday also expressed the intention of the federal government to dissolve, the Senator Bukola Saraki led All Progressives Congress (APC)in Kwara state under the chairmanship of Alh Ishola Balogun Fulani earlier adopted by the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and conduct another congress.

The minister said the new development was as a result of the wide consultations with all the stakeholders in the state,since Friday, which climaxed yesterday.

Alh Mohammed explained that there would be another Congress from the ward that would produce another leadership in the state,saying that pending that time, Alh Bashir Bolarinwa’s leadership would hold sway in the state.

He stressed that it is unacceptable that members of the party who refused to desert the party would not benefit from the government, while those who have decamped to other political parties would still hold on to the political appointment of a party they have dumped.

He therefore warmed that if they fail to resign from the appointments as directed,the federal government would sack all of them unannounced.

The minister, who said that the consultation’s that led to the directives in Kwara state was with the knowledge of the national chairman of the ruling party Comrade Adams Oshiomole urged members of the party in the state to remain calm.

He however noted that the doors of the party is widely opened to members who are willing to return to the party.

The minister also exuded confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress would win the gubernatorial election in the state in 2019 election, adding that the electorates will also vote overwhelmingly for the reelection of President Muhammad Buhari and his vice Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

He added that the resolution of the party would be made known to the national leadership of the party,who would also decide the date of new convention for the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

According to him,”For six members of house of representatives to decamp from All Progressives Congress in Kwara state, to other political parties,we don’t need a rocket science to know,that all of them are no longer with us.

“They cannot continue to enjoy the political appointment of a party they have dumped, while those who are our genuine members, still in the party don’t have such benefits”

The statement issued by the Minister read thus,”A meeting of stakeholders in Kwara State, held at Oro, on Sunday, 29 July 2018, resolved as follows:

1). That the Balogun Fulani-led Kwara APC executive committee be immediately dissolved and a fresh congress that will include all Kwara APC members and those who are just coming into the party be held at the various levels to constitute a new executive.

2). That all those who got appointments by deceit, hiding under the facade of being party men and women, should immediately resign such appointments or be fired.

3). That the recent gale of defections has now put the APC in a position of true majority in the National Assembly, as those who remain are the ones who are truly committed to the ideals of our great Party

4). That all members and supporters of our great party restate their unflinching support for President Muhammadu Buhari and assure him of a harvest of votes from Kwara State in the 2019 General Elections.

5) That all members should remain calm because there is no cause for alarm “

Violence erupted in Ikere Ekiti on Friday night and continued till Saturday morning when supporters of the two monarchs in the town clashed while celebrating their traditional festivals.
The Odun Oba and Olosunta festivals are celebrated by the Ogoga, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, and the Olukere, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, respectively.
Soldiers, riot policemen and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed in the Odo Oja area to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
The Odun Oba reached its peak on Saturday with paying of homage and celebration of the ‘New Yam’ — the same day the Olosunta began.
Ogoga accused the Olukere of sending thugs to attack the palace queens on Friday while performing a traditional dance at some locations in the town.
But the Olukere alleged that security men working for Ogoga invaded his palace at about 1.00am on Saturday shooting sporadically.
He also alleged that the billboard mounted in the Odo Oja area to advertise the Olosunta festival was vandalised by the Ogoga’s loyalists.
He said, “Ogoga’s security men shot one of my boys, Oladimeji Aluko, and he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“I am indoors because the Olosunta festival commenced today (Saturday). Information reached me that they invaded my palace and fired gunshots.
“When they could not find me, they went to my private residence in Ado where they were resisted and they shot somebody there.
“We have informed the Commissioner of Police. I don’t have any problem with Ogoga. All I am demanding from the state government is my staff of office because I am a king in this community.”
However, Oba Alagbado described the Olukere as an impostor because he had not been recognised as a king by the state government.
He said, “Yesterday (Friday), all the palace queens danced from the palace to the Post Office area; the land belongs to the Aladeselu family.
“Obasoyin and his thugs fired gunshots at the ‘Opekele Ayaba’. His thugs seized their two cameras, destroyed their drums and some old women fainted, while the local trumpeter was attacked.”

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho said the team has learnt some lesson from participating at the 2018 World Cup, stating that the Eagles will be back and better at the Qatar 2022 tournament.
Iheanacho starred for Nigeria in the painful 2-1 loss to Argentina in the final game in Group D. A draw would have seen the Super Eagles through to the next round. The Leicester City man did not have a good game and coach Gernot Rohr admitted later that he was not fully fit for the game.
