The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has blamed a previous administration for the persistent strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Nigerian Universities have been closed for eight months after ASUU declared an indefinite strike in March this year. The union's president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who announced the strike at a press conference, said the strike is over the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System and the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement.

While fielding questions from guests at a Town Hall meeting in Bauchi state on Monday, November 2nd, Adamu said that the insolvable problem that had resulted in incessant strikes by ASUU was that a past administration sat down with ASUU and agreed on some conditions that it would pay universities N1.3 trillion when it knew it cannot fulfill the promise.

“I do believe that while they were signing that agreement, they knew that it is not possible for them to implement it. There is just nowhere N1.3trn will come out from.

I think the basic problem between the ASUU side and the government side has been deciding on what to do about this N1.3 trillion. If a government appends its signature to an agreement, it is an agreement” he said

Speaking further, Adamu expressed regrets that the strike is still lingering but that he hopes that an agreement will soon be reached.

“We are not happy that our campuses are closed, we are not happy that the calendar of schools has been disrupted. But the fault is the government that signed to do what it knew it could not do. But I assure you that we are on the verge of reaching an agreement and very, very soon, we will reach an agreement with them.” Adamu said

A 37-year old man identified as William Nadu has died due to electrocution. The incidence took place when he tried switching from generator power source to main grid while watching TV in Sapele, Delta State.

Madu was watching a sitcom in his house when the power company restored power. He stood up to put change over but was electrocuted.

Before his death, Madu was the only male child of his father as well the sole breadwinner in his family.


Upon hearing the news of his son's death, the deceased's father fainted and had to be revived by neighbours.

The ex- CBN Deputy Governor and former presidential candidate representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Obadiah Mailafia, has tendered his resignation before the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos Plateau State.

His resignation from this institute was confirmed by his lawyer, Yakubu Bawa.

Before his resignation, he was a prominent staff of the Institute which is a think-tank institution.

His resignation may not be unrelated with his recent disclosure and statement concerning the insecurity and killings in Southern Kaduna.

He had alleged in a radio interview that a Northern Governor was the Commander of Boko Haram.

Following the interview, he was invited by the DSS for questioning in Jos. He was equally invited by the police in Abuja for questioning which he declined.

A patient named Olusola Olagunju who was on life support at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Kwara State, has been confirmed dead after some striking health workers switched off the ventilator on Tuesday August 25.

According to his friend, Ezekiel Adewole, who confirmed the incident said Olusola Olagunju was already dead before being conveyed to another hospital for medical attention.
He said;

“He was referred to UITH, Ilorin for treatment. He has been undergoing this treatment for a while. He had difficulty in breathing, that is the only issue he had.

“He was okay, very active online. He was always on online – WhatsApp, Twitter and all others. The only thing is that he could not talk frequently on phone.

“He was using the support of oxygen. On Tuesday, we heard that the UITH went on strike. On that fateful day, they switched off their light.

“This guy was living on oxygen, electric oxygen. Immediately they switched off their light, he could not use the oxygen any longer and that was how his system collapsed.

“In the process of taking him to another hospital, he gave up. His family also sought the assistance of an ambulance, but they were denied because the drivers were also on strike."

The sad event which was reported by Channels Television reveals that the National Association of Residents' Doctors (NARD) expressed their regret over the death of the patient.

Explaining the reasons for the strike, the NARD Chairman, Lanre Oloshunde, noted that the strike became necessary following an increase in security situation in the hospital which does not guarantee the life and security of her members.

According to him “We heard that our security was not guaranteed then, that is why we had to go on strike. Thankfully, there has been some security improvements so far in this regard."

He said;

“We have suspended the strike. The strike was informed from a security situation that happened at the hospital in which one of our doctors was assaulted on duty.

“Since then, the management of the hospital has been able to respond with some security measures. At least to some extent, that has guaranteed the safety of our members being able to work.

“We heard that our security was not guaranteed then, that is why we had to go on strike. Thankfully, there has been some security improvements so far in this regard."

Respite came the way of Indian women when one of the food delivery giants in India said it will provide 10 days of "period leave" a year to all her female employees.
In statement credited to the founder and CEO of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, women and transgender will be entitled to one day of period leave for each menstrual cycle.
This move has been adjudged as a significant milestone for a country where menstruation is considered a taboo topic.
In an email which was circulated to all staff, Goyal gave reason for such policy. He said that the company wants to introduce a "culture of trust, truth and acceptance, there shouldn't be any shame or stigma attached to applying for a period leave. You should feel free to tell people on internal groups, or emails that you are on your period leave for the day."
He encouraged staff to speak up especially when faced with unnecessary harassment or hatred comments from their colleagues.
He added further that, "This is a part of life, and while we don't fully understand what women go through, we need to trust them when they say they need to rest this out".
In India, topics such as menstruation is regarded as a taboo to the extent that women on their period are considered to be dirty and impure and not allowed to go near the kitchen.
According to health experts such impression could dissuade women from speaking openly about menstruation and other associated terms like safe and hygienic practices among women.
In the past, several countries have taking drastic steps in granting period leave to women. One of such is Japan in 1947.

Dogs generally are regarded as man's best friend. In contrast to this statement, a six-year-old boy was lucky not to have been mauled to death by his family dog named Chaos, while his mum, Tristin Lent, was at work.
According to police report, the six-year-old boy named Camdon Bozell was attacked by Chaos when he got up to go and get some snacks.
His scream, according to the report, alerted a family member who quickly came to his rescue in an incident that could have resulted to his death.
The incident left Bozell with a life-threatening injury on the face which could change his life.
He was rushed to a hospital where he had to undergo plastic surgery for face reconstruction. – which paramedics described as the worst thing they had ever seen.
Following the incident, the boy's mum who lives in Plainwell, Michigan, warned other parents not to leave their pet dogs unsupervised with children. He added that prior to the attack, Chaos have never shown any signs of aggression.

Describing the incident, Tristin said,

"when I got to the hospital, I feared the worst".“They wouldn’t let me see Camdon at first and then a nurse came out and said ‘good news he’s
breathing on his own’ and I freaked out – I thought why wouldn’t he be? If the dog had attacked him an inch or two below and got Camdon’s
throat, my son would be dead. The dog was not even an inch from his eyes. I’m just happy his ears and eyes were okay".

Tristin was at her workplace when she received an emergency call from police informing her that her son had been attached by their dog and was rushed to hospital. On hearing the news, she quickly drove to the hospital but could not be allowed to see hospital until over 30 traumatising minutes in the waiting room.

Two sisters were on Saturday night allegedly raped by armed robbers numbering about three.
According to the police spokesperson, Constable Boitumelo Sehloho, the armed robbers who were three in number invaded their house beat their parents and raped the two sisters.
Sehloho added that armed robbers have been disturbing residents of Muldersdrift and their neighbouring community such as Nooitgedacht, Zwartkop and Beyers Naude.
He notd that these crimes were "committed by three to six suspects armed with handguns. In all reported incidents, the suspects forcefully gained entry into victims' homes. In some house robberies, victims were sexually assaulted".
He also advised the residents of the community to be "vigilant and tighten their home security before and not after the fact and to be alert in their homes between 19:00 and 04:00 and also to report any suspicious movement".
In his own reaction to rising crime in the community, the station commander of Muldersdrift, Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare, decried the actions of the robbers.
He urged the residents of the community with useful information on the criminal activities to assist the police with credible information of people buying and selling stolen properties.
He assured the community of their efforts towards eradicating crime by ensuring that those who are against the law are made to face the full wrath of the law.

However, it was revealed in the comment section by the mistress that she did not actually hack into the man's account rather he was the one who willingly gave it to her.

Some members of the Anambra State Covid - 19 task force officials were allegedly caught sexually abusing a girl inside their vehicle.

According to a report which was shared on the Facebook timeline by one Chinedu Saint Bede Onwuka, the girl was arrested at Nkpor area of the state by the task force officials for allegedly not wearing her face mask.

Riled by the incident, the residents of the community according to poster were instigated into destroying vehicule belonging to the task force.

In what should be considered a memorable and invaluable experience, a woman will have to live with the shocking memory that her husband's mistress was to deliver in the same hospital with her.

In a viral video which has been trending on Reddit, the woman was surprised not only that her husband was having an extramarital affair with another woman during her labour but that he was expecting a baby with another woman.

The video was posed by a mid wife where she is seen in front of the camera, while in the background a woman can be heard raining curses after she discovered that her husband’s mistress is also giving birth in the hospital.

The post has since gone rival viral on Reddit, generating 4000 comments and 82,000 reactions.

In what looks like a scene from a movie, a group of 15 suspected heavily armed men on Thursday, 30 July stormed a petrol station in Kabokweni Mpumalanga, carting away unconfirmed amount of cash with them.

According to the police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the gun men stormed the Engen petrol station shooting randomly with powerful weapons. "They blasted safes in the shop, took an undisclosed amount of cash then fled the scene on foot".

According to the police spokesperson, no arrests have been made yet. He called on the members of the public with useful information to “assist the police in their investigation, on this issue”

There has been a rise in series of similar incidents in the province within the last week.

A Ugandan man, Felix Byamukama, has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment for killing mountain gorillas best known as Rafiki.

Byamukama was jailed for illegally entering a conservation park and killing a gorilla. According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Byamukama said he had to kill the gorilla in self defense when it charged towards him in a violent manner.

With just over 1000 still in existence, the rare silverback mountain gorilla is one of the two subspecies of the eastern gorilla and is considered an endangered specie by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

According to report, Rafiki was killed by a sharp that penetrated his internal organs. It went missing on 1 June, the dead body was discovered by a search team the next day.

Byamukama will serve several sentences concurrently, leading to 11 years in jail which falls far short of the life sentence it was predicted he could have been given.

FCT police have arrested a 37 yrs old old woman for staging her kidnap on Wednesday, July 29.

The woman by name, Torkwase Queen Ayakpa from Benue state, confessed she did that to test if her sister truly loves her.

Ayakpa, who is also an hairstylist, confessed also that she staged her kidnap in other to extort N20,000 from her sister since her business was no longer booming like before.

Police have arrested a former special force officer, Yaroslav Fokin, 35, for kidnapping his ex-wife Elena Rukhlyada for a romantic outing in the forest.

In the footage which has been deleted, Fokin was shown with a blue sports bag in which he stuffed his ex-wife, delicately moved her to the parking lot before driving off to a remote forest, where he freed her and presented a bouquet of flowers to her.

Following the report of her disappearance, Russian police went into search where she was found unharmed. The ex-husband was found guilty of kidnapping and was sentenced to serve a four year sentence in a highly fortified prison.

A mother and her son had a close shave with death when a man in his late forties by name, Douglas Marks, shot at them for not observing the social distancing rule.

According to the report made to the police department, the woman and her son who were visiting Miami Beach from New Mexico were confronted by Douglas for not keeping to the social distancing guidelines.

The report added further that their attitude instigated Douglas to ask them to leave the hotel before bringing out a black gun which he shot 'several' times in the lobby.

According to the report, no one was injured in the shooting but Marks was later arrested by Miami Beach police.

The accused has allegedly confessed to the shooting. However, he told detectives that he fired a shot when he observed some movements behind him and also asked the receptionist to call 911.
