The late Ooni Of Ife – His Imperial Majesty, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, was buried yesterday (August 14, 2015) in Ile Ife, the ancestral home of the Yorubas. An interdominational (Christian/Muslim/Traditional) service was held for the Ooni which was attended by Vice President, Yemi Osinabajo, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Babajide Omoworare; former Ambassador to Switzerland, Ambassador Olusegun Bamigbetan; Deputy Speaker of Osun State, Hon. Adegboye Akintunde; legislators; monarchs, his wives, children & many others. Following the less than 3 hour service the burial of the late king commenced. But unlike the burial of a civilian, the late Oba’s was very different. Here are 6 interesting facts about the Late Ooni of Ife’s Burial https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Pic-31.jpg 1. The Late Ooni’s remains were not present at interdominational service The body of the late Ooni did not lie in state and his casket was not displayed during the interdominational service which took place at Afewonro Parks, Enuwa, Ile Ife, Osun state. This left many who wanted to pay their last respects to the much loved monarch disappointed. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Widows-of-the-Late-Oba-Sijuade.jpg 2. The Family of the late Ooni Were Not Allowed To See His remains since it came back from England. An anonymous source at the palace told Punch correspondent, As we are holding this interdenominational service here, those concerned are performing their own rites inside the palace where the body is kept. You can see that the gates of the palace are locked and nobody is allowed to go inside. Nobody can see him again except those who will bury him. The wives and children were not even supposed to see his corpse at all but tradition was broken this time around because he (Sijuwade) died in London. But no family member can see him again. Those performing the rites are there now and they will complete it today (Friday). He will be buried in the middle of the night, but nobody will be there apart from those who will lower him into the grave. The source added that, those who saw the bodies of the previous Oonis were attacked by smallpox and did not survive the ailment. However because he passed away in London his three wives (Morisola – 1st wife, Ladun – 2nd wife and Odunola – youngest and some of his children were able to pay their last respect to the departed monarch. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Screen-Shot-2015-08-15-at-09.18.07.png 3. Palace Gates Locked During the interdominational service the remains of the late Ooni was kept inside the palace, the gates were locked and no one was allowed inside. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Screen-Shot-2015-08-15-at-09.18.48.png 4. The Ooni of Ife’s Corpse Belongs To Ife Not His Family. Nothing Must Stop The Traditional Burial Rites Punch also reports that some members of the Oro cult stormed the venue of the interdominational service in an attempt to stop the service, saying it was sacrilege to hold an interdenominational service for the departed king. As the service went on outside the palace, the traditional worshippers sang and danced inside the palace. The Araba of Osogbo land, Chief Yemi Elebuibon spoke to Punch and disclosed that traditional burial rites of the kings of Ile-Ife and Oyo are strictly complied with and are comprehensive. He said, When the Ooni dies, the body becomes that of the town. The ‘Isoro’ cult group will take over. The ‘Isoro’ initiates are the ones who worship the ‘Oro’ deity. It is the ‘Isoro’ people that would inform the various deities, who were worshipped and appeased when the Ooni was crowned, that he (the monarch) is no more. It’s a rite. Nothing must stop it. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Muslims-clerrick.jpg 5. No Human Sacrifice Before the advent of Christianity & Islam in Yoruba land human sacrifice was usually involved in the burial of a king. Also an incoming king would eat the heart of the departed king. However this practise doesn’t take place anymore. The Araba dispelled this belief saying The eating of the heart of a departed King by an incoming one belonged to the past. It no longer exists. People still make this insinuation because many are barred from witnessing the burial of a king. What the incoming king will eat is the heart of an animal and not that of a human. Nobody would be buried with the Ooni. Nobody would be killed for any form of sacrifice. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Christian-clerrick.jpg 6. Curfew in Ile Ife For Seven Days According to Punch, a curfew, which started yesterday Friday the 14th August, was put in place for a week. The curfew starts at 4pm. 7. His final resting place It is being reported that the late king would be buried in a mausoleum at the rear of the palace beside the immediate past Ooni, Oba Adesoji Aderemi. The reason for this is because the cemetery inside the palace, where previous Oonis were buried is now full. The Late Ooni Was A Born Again Christian Oba Sijuwade died as a born-again Christian. Evangelist Toluwase Akeredolu revealed he had ministered to the monarch few weeks before his death. Akeredolu said https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/Ooni-of-Ife-dead.png Oba Sijuwade told the congregation at the last crusade we organised in Ile-Ife that he had forsaken sins and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal saviour. He confessed publicly that he would live the rest of his life to serve the Almighty God. During the revival, Oba Sijuwade said he had committed the rest of his lifetime to Christ, the saviour of all and had sung the popular song ‘All to Jesus, I surrender.’” In 2010 Oba Sijuwade dropped the title of ‘Oluaye’ (owner of the universe) in deference to the Almighty God.” Wow…Yoruba tradition & culture is very intriguing. Madonna University Alumni Association uses this medium to first and foremost condemn in the strongest of terms the inhumane treatment meted on two undergraduates; Mr Stanley Okoye and Mr Lord Ga-Lim. Violence of this nature has no place in our society in general and Madonna University in particular. We sympathize with the concerned students and their families and also commend them for the manner in which they have comported themselves so far. https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/700x332xwpid-img_20150811_095412.jpg.pagespeed.ic.AtbNAkGv7g.jpg We call on the management of Madonna University to act swiftly to ensure a peaceful resolution to this precarious situation. We also call on the University Management to open a board of inquiry to investigate this concern and other pre-existing concerns with regards to human rights of the students of the University. Dedicated channel (email and helpline) shall be set up to this effect and we welcome inputs from all current and past students of this great institution. The Alumni has and will continue to project a positive image of our fellow graduates and we are committed to intensifying efforts to create a better environment for the undergraduates. This, we will continue to fight for as steps are being taken to re-energize and re-strengthen our Alumni desk to keep an eye out for any such cases and report such to the relevant authorities. We shall liaise with the Nigerian Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and other groups relating to non-academic and academic activities of the Institution to draft a new course. While we are committed to ensuring better conditions for our undergraduates we use this opportunity to categorically state that this event should not be allowed to repeat itself in our institution. The high handedness and the excessive use of power by security officials in the school premises against students should be curtailed, and decency and decorum be applied in all dealings with students. We wish Stanley Okoye and Lord Ga-lim speedy recovery and will continue to watch as events unfold. We are certain that the law will take its course and justice will be served. I shared some pictures myself. A lot of the pictures being shared with the #CaptureLifeFive13 hashtag are coming from Lagos. I wish people from other parts of the country, continent, and indeed the world, would join in. |
When we told you people to be prayerful, you refused. Now see beta contract don show, and bad-belle everywhere. N200 million! Chai! Adamawa Governor should be arrested immediately! Crook! Thief! Ole Buruku! How can someone who believes in, and fears God want to embezzle N200 million in the name of God?! |
Everybody in the PDP contributed towards their loss. Why do they want to count each person one by one?! |
But wait O! Is it not this same PWC that submitted NNPC Audit Report to GEJ? Dem say money no miss, then money miss, then dem no even know.. How are we sure they won't publish what PMB wants to see, then when he's about to leave offices, they'll start confessing again. That organization should be expelled from this country. |
Nigeria Copyright Commission charges a fee to get copyrights registered. What is that fee for, if not to protect and enforce that copyright? Why do they do nothing?! |
Just look at how this one decided to ruin his life! What kind of nonsense are our youths now into? Using their own money to pursue after skin cancer. The Government needs to step in here, because in 10 years time, we will not have enough Cancer Clinics to care for these people, and Government resources will be overwhelmed. |

Religious in tolerance is more prevalent in the more established religion they just don't know it because they believe the others are not even valid religions in the first place, and that is the worst form of intolerance. If people of another religion go to burn down a Church altar, we will hear a different cry from people like this. |

Rep. Hon. Ayodeji Joseph, the immediate past Chairman of Apapa Local Government and the current Member of the House of Representatives representing the Apapa Federal Constituency moved a motion yesterday on the floor of the House on the urgent need to devise a means to eliminate traffic gridlock on the road leading to Apapa port. He fielded questions from newsmen explaining the motive behind his motion and also gave an insight into his legislative agenda https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/600x280xApapa-gridlock1-600x280.jpg.pagespeed.ic.sZiuBYplC8.jpg Q : The motion you raised on the floor of the House, can you give us the rationale behind it? A : I think the motion is what the people of Apapa have been waiting for. If you ask anybody about Apapa, what first comes to mind is traffic as if we breed traffic there (laughs). So the perennial traffic gridlock that has taken a toll on the socio-economic well-being of the Apapa people and the need to permanently resolve it was the reason for the motion. Q. Why has it been difficult to tackle the gridlock despite interventions by the State Government? A. I don't think it is what the State Government can tackle alone. When I was Local Government Chairman, I and the then Commissioner of Transport went to the port to intervene but the Commissioner was disrespected and told in clear terms it was a Federal responsibility. The State government has employed different strategies to ameliorate the situation but a permanent solution won't come without Federal Government assistance. https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/1600x1200xIMG_20150806_160453_edit.jpg.pagespeed.ic.dkp7s5cwHS.jpg I think a permanent solution should be to devise a means of moving goods from Apapa instead of relying on all this containers and fuel tankers. All over the world, goods are moved by rail even petroleum products are moved by rail or pipes so why do we want to continue to use the old system of doing things and the Federal Govt will also be losing money because of the situation there. If you have good roads, better managed system, the turn around time for moving products will be shorter, more products will be moved and more money for the Government. But if we continue like this, my fear is that God forbid, the bridge might even collapse because you see this tanker drivers parking on it and you can imagine how much the Federal Govt will be losing if that should happen. Customs make close to N700b every year, NIMASA about $400m, NPA, not less than a billion naira annually. All these figures you can always get online so it's not just me cooking up figures so you can imagine how the total break-down of this area is going to affect the Federal govt. We shouldn't say Apapa is in Lagos and we should just neglect it. I believe now that there is new Federal govt that Lagos State is aligned with, things will change. https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/1600x1200xIMG_20150806_161205_edit.jpg.pagespeed.ic.eT__u3t_Oc.jpg Q. After the House resolution, what should the people of Apapa be expecting? A. Action has started with the resolution, it won't just go to the Works Committee and i'll say they are doing something about it, I must follow through, I must know what they are doing about it. There are also other things I believe the people of Apapa ought to be benefiting from the Federal Govt in the area of jobs. Our people ought to be employed to work with shipping companies bringing goods and others within the proximity of the ports. I will be working on a bill whereby the people of a particular area get a particular percentage of employment quota, I believe this is very important here in Apapa because we are being exploited and nothing is getting back to the people. So that's part of what i'll be here fighting for. Then all these containers going into the ports and falling off easily, I think we also need to tackle it. We have people driving articulated vehicles without going through proper training. I want to believe there should be special training schools for drivers of articulated vehicles and trucks. A license to drive a car should not mean you can just jump into a truck .So many lives are being lost daily due to negligence and Alcohol consumption by drivers. FRSC should do something in this regard which should include a random alcoholic test to curb this menace. https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/retirement-old-couple-pensioner.jpg You can’t just have a happy retirement, you have to make it happen, so here are some tips towards that: Start saving early and stick with it. This means getting a pension plan that works for you. You’re not going to work for life, so have a clear picture from the outset about how you’ll get on and keep living your best when you’re no longer working. That’s when you’re going to need money coming in for you on a regular basis so you can have a happy life and achieve the things you want to achieve. So now is a great time to put some thought into this and decide how you’re going to get on when you retire and how much you’ll need to make it happen. Then talk to your pension firm about it and they’ll walk you through the whole thing. Some employers have a private gratuity or retirement plan that employees can cash into when they stop working for them. But every employer in Nigeria with three or more staff has to deduct a part of their staff’s pay and remit it to a pension firm towards retirement. This is in addition to what the employers too have to contribute as the boss. https://www.barbaric.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Safe.-small.jpg It’s the government’s national pension scheme and everyone has to be into it whether they’re in the public or private sector. So you have to check with your employer to make sure they’re remitting your pension duly and also see what other benefits you’re entitled to when you stop working. A lot of people save their money and soon blow it. But what’s the point of saving in the first place? Saving and investing go hand in hand, so when you’re saving for your retirement, you’ve got to also make sure to invest some of your money into something wise. Your pension firm won’t let you withdraw from your retirement savings with them so you don’t lavish your savings. But the good part of saving with a pension firm is that you could actually get up to a quarter of your pension right now if you ever lose your job and can’t get another one within four months. But you’ve got to use this window sparingly and keep your savings intact all the way. SOURCE: http://www.barbaric.com.ng/how-to-have-a-happy-retirement/ |

We had already told you that struggling reggae star Majek Fashek is currently undergoing drug & alcohol rehab in Abuja. Yesterday (Aug 10) the embattled entertainer held a press conference in the capital city, during the press briefing he was flanked by his treatment specialists and Charly Boy. https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/MajekGashekPressConference.jpg At the press conference Fashek who is now a shadow of the man who made hits like Send Down The Rain confirmed he is in rehab for drug & alcohol addiction. I don’t know about Nigerian but I know in Western climes the first step in treating any type of addiction is to acknowledge and admit said addiction, which the music star did yesterday. Perhaps now a changed man Fashek, gave kids a strong warning about the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. "People should stop the use of alcohol and drugs because being drunk will end up destroying your career and your plans for the future. Coming to the rehab is not a bad idea because I realised that I am addicted to alcohol and it was beginning to affect my output and what I enjoy doing and decided to seek for help. I am not the first singer or person that will go to the rehab; most renowned celebrities we know today go to rehabilitation centres to cool their memory." Speaking on why he finally admitted his addiction to drugs he said, "I publicly admitted to addiction to alcohol because so many things are being said about me on the social media and nobody forced me to the rehab. Propaganda of scandal was being monotonous to my generation. I want to run from the stress of Babylon of Africa and I need to be credited for the works I have done." He also cleared the air about the long standing rumour that he was deported from the United States where his kids still live, saying he was never deported. He also added that he is fighting to protect the legacy of his kids. The consultant and psychiatrist treating Majek Fashek, Dr Vincent Udenze at the press conference said his rehabilitation would take a while and that it would be a journey. "Rehabilitation is a long term journey, even if he leaves the centre and goes home, he is still on that journey and that is how we conceptualise rehabilitation." We are all praying & rooting for you Majek Fashek! SOURCE: http://www.that1960chick.com/2015/08/11/majek-fashek-finally-confirms-addiction-to-drugs-alcohol-warns-people-not-to-use-drugs/ |

Last week I told you that after many years of battling drug addiction, Majek Fashek had finally sought help and checked into a rehab facility in Abuja. http://www.that1960chick.com/2015/07/29/majek-fashek-is-finally-getting-help-for-drug-addiction-at-rehab-center-in-abuja/ https://www.that1960chick.com/wp-content/uploads/fashek-424x264.jpg It has now been confirmed that the Warri billionaire Ayiri Emami is responsible for the former reggae star’s first step to a drug free life. It is being reported that Emami has taken full responsibly for Fashek’s treatment including flying in drug addiction specialists from outside Nigeria. We are praying Fashek can beat his addiction, too many people have been lost to drugs! I just finished watching some Whitney Houston documentaries and it’s sad how she became overtaken by cocaine, even losing her singing voice in the process. Tecno is seriously on vex mode. They are putting a lot of resources into Research and Development, meanwhile, iPhone is just bamboozling its addicts by making slight improvements to technology it discovered and patented a decade ago. I've used a Tecno, the Boom J7, and I can testify that it has about the nest sound quality among all the phones I've ever tested. The problem is that for people like me who are used to spending big money on brands perceived as the very best, it is always difficult to break that habit and try something else. I'm waiting for the Tecno C8 if the price is good, and it can do all I've read so far that it can do, I'm definitely getting it. |
