Good Morning people, we have just a week till the Party, yet out of the 1208 who have viewed this page, less than 50 have responded. On Facebook however, which this event was not created for, more than 100 hundred people have indicated that they will be attending http://m.facebook.com/event.php?eid=243051199070372 . Nairalanders, let's celebrate our own. I've been in so many Facebook Parties, I'm not interested in another. Take the POLL to indicate if you're attending or not.

@Tebag

You're welcome too. Hope you've taken the poll too. The poll figures will go a long way in getting sponsors for the event.

@leggins

Thanks for the support man, I really appreciate that you had to sign up to Nairaland just to be a part of this party. Don't worry, I know you. You'll find a way to find your way down here when the time comes.

@gacha

My PIN:32479C0C . Let's chat. We have just a little over a month, and though some people may feel we have all the time, in truth though, we've run out of time, so I need all the help I can get. Please add me up, and if you already have, make some noise all up on my BBM.

@ jobaskia

You're welcome too. Please take the poll if you haven't already.

@Kayswag

Thank you very much sir, I've been trying to explain it, but I don't want to turn this thread into an argument. I wanted to focus it on its purpose. I'm still trying to get through to Seun, and I've tried Facebook, Google+, and Twitter in addition to sending him mails in his various email boxes.

Unfortunately, I decided not to maintain the "Nairaland" name cos I don't know what some people will come up with to truncate this whole thing. I think the "Nigeria", or "Naija" name works better in ensuring I don't infringe on anyone's rights. My wish is same as yours, but not everyone else's.

Thanks for the support. I'm looking into how we can bring party people from all over Nigeria. I'm thinking of Sending a proposal to ABC Transport, but I really don't know if it's too late. Especially as we have no support form the admins of this site.

Hello my Nairaland people. Please, post your issues with the MTN Link here as MTN has requested we furnish them with customers' reactions so that they may serve you better.

Endeavour to be very explicit, but avoid insults and curse words. I had a meeting with the office directly in charge of the MTN Link packages, and sincerely, they want to give the customers what the customers needs. Also, try to be very realistic. Do not ask for a call rate of N1/minute.

Thank You.

Let me ask something clear here. Phones › Re: Coping Without Blackberry: How Has It Been? by nex(m): 6:35am On Oct 13, 2011
First off, I'll start by saying in no ambiguous terms that the cause of this breakdown of BlackBerry services is no other than Dauden, the makers of the world acclaimed game, "Caro".

The pressure this high traffic game put on the RIM network when players went from 0 (zero) on August 22nd 2011, to 300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand) on October 3rd 2011, was exceedingly overwhelming, especially as a huge chunk of players were coming from Africa, where no adequate bandwidth is ever a consideration.

anyway, to the BBM addicts, I don't blame them too much. I blame the people who do not understand them.

I personally do not like the BlackBerry device, but I had to get one when some of my business associates stopped communicating with me just because I wasn't on "BB".

Well, the first thing you'll notice when you get on BBM is total and absolute disappointment. It is hyped more than 1000% it's actual worth. You will virtually be begging your friends and colleagues who cajoled you into buying a BlackBerry to even chat with you for a minute.

The next state you will fall into is asking for, and adding people's PINs to your BlBM Ad Libitum. From this point on, you start finding some people who will have the time to share information, gossip, news, rumours, and whatever else you fancy, most times, 'free love". This is where the potential addicts get addicted to their BBMs.

Now, as I mentioned earlier, I blame the people who do not understand the BBM addicts. BBM and the BlackBerry device are not one and the same thing. One is a communications channel, the other is a multiple communications device that includes the other. So you cannot, as someone wrongly did, compare BBM with the iPhone. You can compare BlackBerries with iPhones, and BBM with perhaps GSM or Internet.

So if you can imagine what it'd be like to have all GSM communications in Europe, Middle-East, and Africa cut off for a day, then you are beginning to understand why some of your friends are BBM jonesing.

Luckily for me, the only important thing I do with the BBM is file exchange which I can easily switch back to my email. Like I've always said, the BBM is by and large, and glorified text messaging. So as long as I can send SMS, and once in a couple of hours, my BlackBerry browser works, plus I've got internet connectivity on my laptop, I'm good. I'm very good.

I hope the network is restored really soon so that seamless communication can be restored to those who employ their BlackBerry devices to productive use, but I hope even more that chronic BBM dependent people realize there's still a real life.

@Don Faszy

We're planning on Oniru Beach, we'll have it all to ourselves, and there will be clear means of identification, i.e Gray and Green T-shirts. There will also be massive security, and we will have top members of the Oniru family involved. We are already speaking with Dapo Oniru, owner of the high-end D-Block Beach Bar, and if you know Oniru Beach well, you will know that D-Block hosts lots of foreigners from time to time, and nothing ever goes wrong.

Gbenga Daniel does not want to die. He didn't steal Ogun State money only so he could die and leave the money for strangers, to enjoy; not even for his children to enjoy. Justin is only using this as an opportunity to slim down. When he needs food, he will ask for food, and when he needs drugs, he will ask for drugs. Fellow Nigerians' don't be perturbed. All is very well.

So now, in a country where our ancestors, and our mothers and fathers have toiled and paid taxes, and suffered, and broke their backs, the best our government can offer today is a "lotto". After passing through Primary, Secondary, University, Youth Service, and even Masters' and other Post Graduate institutions, we still have to submit ourselves to a lotto in order to secure a decent life for ourselves, and a better future for our children. Well, God dey!

Phones › Re: Coping Without Blackberry: How Has It Been? by nex(m): 9:35pm On Oct 12, 2011
I must say, I've been very glad with this BlackBerry service outage. The first day especially due to the fact that my Blackberry Browser was still functioning.

The BlackBerry Messenger is the most under-utilized application on My BlackBerry, and sometimes I wish RIM had shipped their devices with an option of turning off the BBM application, while you used other applications like the Notepad, Camera, Voicenotes, Music Player, Facebook, Twitter, and Push Email Services. I feel so at peace, and I dread the moment that the services will be back in order.

The only thing I regret is leaving the members of my "Nairaland BlackBerry Group" in the dark. I can imagine what they are going through right now. Most of them can't stay a minute outside that group.
Art, Graphics & Video › Re: Let's Stop Importing 100% of Our Children's Cartoons by nex(m): 9:25pm On Oct 12, 2011
I believe this is a project that needs serious attention. A lot of these cartoons and children's programs are embedded with colour schemes (eg: Blue, White, Red), themes, and messages that build loyalty and allegiance to those countries, and we import them over here to our children, helping to spread other nations' propaganda to our impressionable infants.

We have to begin now, even if we have to begin small, but we must begin!

I'm online virtually all the time.

I think we better have T-shirts that will identify different Nairalanders at the venue.

All the details for the event will be posted on this page. You can also check the event page created for the Grand Nigerian Party for those on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=243051199070372&ref=nf . It's definitely going to be a paid event, say between N3000 and N5,000. But that will all depend on what will be provided for attendees. We're looking at making customized T-shirts, Drinks, and Barbecue at the least, then if we want to really go all out, we want to have upcoming artistes perform at the party.

We were also talking to a foreign artiste who had never been to Nigeria before, but we think that can wait for the next edition.
