Seun: What elphem is trying to say is that there are a lot of Nigerian women in high places especially in the field of education. For example, the vice chancellor of Covenant University is a woman. That doesn't say anything about the ratios or about their behaviour |

Seun: nferyn: I ignored your questions because you are not a woman and I am not a woman, therefore the questions you are asking may not be relevant at all to women! Or what do you think? That's an easy cop out. Why do you enter the discussion in the first place then? Seun: damygurl: Equality? Give me a break; women do not want equality; they just want to be happy/loved/fulfilled. Would you like to be the head of your future family? Ask men out and face rejection? Be drafted into the army when there are wars? Be unable to bear children or know for sure if your partner's children are yours?
Give me a break, there will be no equality! If you're not a woman, how would you possiblly know? You claim to be speaking in the name of all womanhood. It kind of makes me think about a father that speaks in the name of his children without even knowing or asking what they think. |

snowsdream: are you implying that there is mentallity in catholic church? Of course there is. But remember that the Catholic Church is very diverse. You'll find different mentalities among the higher an lower clergy, the theologicians, the ordinary believers and the social organisations. If you want to understand where this diversity comes from, you need to know some of the history |

Eddy Tells: I have love for catholics but i really don't get 'em.
Are they actually believers do they actually believe in being born again And why are there many controversy around the catholic church. Read up a little on Church history. Especially about the establishment of the Roman Catholic Church, the Reformation/Contra-Reformation, the Holy Inquisition and the Crusades. The writings of Saint Augustine, John Chisostomos and Thomas of Aquino are also very enlightning. You will understand the mentality better. |

layi: con·science (knshns) n. The part of the superego that judges the ethical nature of one's actions and thoughts and then transmits such determinations to the ego for consideration.
@nferyn I do not think utilitarianism leads to conscience. Conscience is individualistic while utilarianism is the accepted norm by d majority. People conscience oppose at times. You strongly believe there is no God but i also passionately believe there is GOD. We can't both be right. I wouldnt think conscience is strong enough to determine what is wrong or right. Your definition is a rather Freudian one, I must say. And Freud's view on psychology has been thoroughly refuted by modern psychology. Utilistarianism is the principle by which one decides what the utility of an action is. Utility is then defined as I did. It's not really the norm of society. My conscience is determined by applying those principles of utilitarianism and reciprocity. That's what defines it. Somebody elses conscience may very well be totaly instinctual, it all depends from person to person And actually, I do not strongly believe that there is no God, I'm an agnostic atheist, not a gnostic one (meaning that I have no knowledge of wheter or not here is a God, but that I do not believe there to be a God) In the absence of evidence (and not the evidence of absence, you cannot possibly disprove God) I take the position not to believe. |

layi: [SNIP] We've over the years called christians fanatics and apologetics but its obvious the non-christians r more brutal verbally and physically. This is not true, layi. You should bring some evidence to substantiate this. Don't feel persecuted, you are the majority You have the decency to not make this personal and live and let live. A lot of Christians want to force their truth on others. And apologetics are not bad per se, they are just defenders of the faith |

fabian: [SNIP] When I said Conscience, I meant for normal people, like you and I, not for prople who think they have a right to play King of all. That's why I think Utilitarianism is probably the best philosophy to determine what is right or wrong: What is good is what brings most happiness to the largest amount of peopleAnd as an additional guideline, the principle of reciprocity should be added to that: Don't do to others what you don't want to be done to youUtilitarianism ensures the rights of society while reciprocity protects against the tyranny of the majority |

hahahhahah Don't know if this is 100% joking. I'm going to assume it's not. Anyway, if you're black and in the UK, you'd better stay there. Belgium is far less advanced when it comes to race relations, especially concerning emplyment opportunities. Things are changing quickly, but it'll probably take another 5 to 10 years before we reach the level of integration you have in the UK |

chum: Michelin89 I want to believe you are joking, if not, i think i will have a problem with you else you will have to rephrase your words, plz am not trying to take it personal, NduGod has said it all "God is God" Why can't you accept that people hold different beliefs. It neither makes them better, nor worse. Follow your conscience and try to lead a good life. Morality is not the exclusive property of one or another religion. Michelin89 has made it quite clear that she is an atheist and she should not be chastised for that |

layi: U should know the second quote wasnt for you. So don't get confused. Sincerely U make me enjoy this discourse. I'm actually learning how to debate from you but some would just come into it ignorantly makin harsh remarks (..nothing wrong though if it was an informed remark) These harsh remarks are usually only harsh because of the tone in which they were written - and I know because I've fallen into this trap as well Concerning the quantification of the spirit: from an outsider's perspective, you can operationalise visionary experiences, when people are speaking in tongues and the like. Are these the circumstances in which people are into the spirit or is it something else alltogether? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Are Christians in Conflict or Does the Bible Contradict Itself? by nferyn(m): 2:21am On Nov 08, 2005 |
layi: [SNIP] Every human knows this. We just want to go the lucifer way - make our throne like HIS and claim mastery over a universe we met here. This is simply not true, layi. I come from a secular background and to me the concept of the monotheistic God (be it Jewish, Christian or Muslim) is absolutely meaningless. I can only infer the concept from what believers tell me and it still doesn't make any sense. I am truly, honestly puzzled as to why people can believe in it. How can I reject something that just is not there for me. Both God and Satan have no meaning for me. layi: Thats the problem. U argue from the outside. Christians talk about growing into the Spirit and becoming more sensitive to him not growing the spirit. Theye are the one imroving in the things of the spirit. Its very obvious if only u were a christian or at least have a lil knowledge of what goes on in the christian circuit. i explained just so u'll understand..No need ignoring. Exactly, I just do not comprehend your state of mind. I explained what my spirituality is like, so that maybe we can find a way to translate each others concepts |
